My theory for why you can drive on the ground in ktb is that the developers originally wanted the cpus to sometimes take the tunnel, but then ended up scrapping it leaving the ground solid around it so the cpus wouldn't fall off if you weren't looking.
6:40 Stuff like this really just strikes me how even when they're not working with even that different source material, language barriers can still divide fandoms.
I personally believe that these tracks do have skips that's possible without a 2nd player. Part of me also believes that we're just not looking in the right spots. There's gotta be a skip SOMEWHERE in these tracks.
Great video! I love the idea of making a video about the tracks that aren’t broken yet bc it seems like the sort of thing that would help members of the community come up with brilliant new ideas. Maybe you could make a similar kind of video on mkwii and the reasons each track without an ultra shortcut doesn’t have one yet
This is a fun idea, and I really enjoyed the presentation. I also liked how the ad was chaptered so I could easily skip past it (I have no money so what am I gonna do with ads). Thank you for making this video.
The collision on the tunnel is probably to collide with the camera. Its common to put a collision sphere on a camera and when it collides it moves toward the player until its not colliding anymore.
I'm not a glitch hunter or a speedrunner of the game, but I want to point something out. Technically jumping the walls on Wario Stadium is a developer intended shortcut because if you have the guide book for the game it walks you through that shortcut. It can be done by just about anyone who has a strong knowledge of the game, so in that sense, it is not a broken track as it is intended.
Very informative and well presented video, Abyssoft! Your editing skills have improved a lot since the last MK64 video I watched. Funny you put me into the KTB story as tunnel glitch player #1 :D, "luckily" I only lost that track during the tournament match but could turn it around and win the semifinal 2-1.
@Abyssoft: It is truth that Cpu can go through wall, but it was not truth that the cpu did on puprose to skip that part of the track, Cpu did that by accident unintentionally either Wario toss a bannana peels in front of himself by accident, or another cpu did. Cpu do have interaction with the wall, when the wall are loaded, and also when the wall are unloaded, if the player camera gets close enough to the cpu the wall will load for the cpu and the wall lose their hitbox and only gain the hit box after the wall load, a player can do that too, if he is quick enought but only after going out of bounce and getting pick-up by lakitu. Edit: since it is not a big skip the lakitu way of unloading the wall would not work, so I watch the video and someone did found a way to clip the wall without lakitu help.
I had no idea most of this existed before I watched this video, but I found it easy to understand and fun to watch! It was good to see the credits given to the players discovering /developing / demonstrating the gameplay, too. The only thing I'm sad about is I can't find novadrome's remixes anymore, like the one playing during the Moo Moo Farms section. All the music here was really stellar. :')
I think you should cover speedrunning history with glitch bounties. Sometimes there’s a glitch that wants to be found so bad that there’s a bounty on its head. I want to learn about more of them, but i don’t make videos in this stuff, so I’d like it a lot if you covered that topic
Since it's specific to Moo Moo Farm, I would say to lift the pause ban only for that track. Just so long as everyone posting their vids of it give a seizure warning ^^; But thanks for the video, Abyssoft! Always love hearing about speedrunners attempting to break stuff and I look forward to hearing some day that these tracks were indeed broken.
Maybe some speed runner will see this comment. Idk how valuable it is, but on The first track of mushroom cup, my brother and I were playing on split screen. I got hit with a shell (think it’s was red or green) right before the tunnel, and I flew through the left entrance of the tunnel and into an invisible lake, where lakitu pulled me out as normal. No time save, but maybe a part of something ??
On banshee boardwalk you can clip through the wall behind the box during a spin out at the right angle. I have only ever done it on a banana peel, but I am aware you can spin out on our own when doing drifts (Done it too many times myself) so it may be possible to pull off in time trials. That said given that it is a spin out, not sure if it would save any time, and possibly even lose some.
My thoughts on the pausing rule and how it pertains to the pausing oob skip is that to move the speed run meta forward an exception in the pausing rule should be made so that you can pause exclusively for the purpose of performing the skip, and never any other way. The moderators should be able to tell when a runner uses pauses for the skip vs not
Yeah just use a timer other than the in-game one. I think the green one most speed runners use keep running even when the game it's overlaying is paused
hmm, perhaps there should be a Category Split? you could call it "Ghost" vs "No-Ghost", based on whether or not the TimeTrial run allows for Ghost Data to save...so "Ghost" runs would be mostly Glitchless, No-OoB, No-Pause runs (so that the player could hypothetically save their ghost after the run) whereas "No-Ghost" has much fewer restrictions (since Pausing, getting bailed out by Lakitu, and probly a couple other factors that speedrunners would likely use means "Ghost Data Cannot Be Saved")...it would also open up the door for More Than One Driver strats, since "No Ghost" would also include GP modes (since it doesnt save Ghost Data by default)...but then again, i suppose an Extra category ("Multiplayer"?) could cover those runs... ...but thats just My two cents-- and i still struggle with the Door of Time Skip in Zelda:OoT, so i am by no means a "speedrunner" :-P
I think pausing in Mario 64 works because the timer isn’t in game and therefor doesn’t pause when you pause, so the only way to save any time is to use pausing to speed up rather than slow down. This is the difference between pausing for the BLJ and pausing in Golden Eye. Unfortunately Mario Kart 64 uses the in game timer so it’s subject to Golden Eye pausing every frame.
The part where Wario appears from the walls... Can I know what happens ?why it Wario just... not in the race anymore right after that ?He's in 4th place and right after he goes through the walls and bumps in Yoshi, his face and model switches back to Luigi (Writing this out I also noticed that at the start it was a Luigi, and it just decided to randomly switch into Wario to get through the wall...Oh well)
Seems a bit silly to still consider Bowser's Castle "unbroken" if we know that there is a skip present that someone has actually executed on a console, and it just hasn't been executed in a way that saves time yet
For banshee boardwalk, could runners do something similar to what they do on rainbow road? Having a heavy character in 2nd and then slamming into them at the start of the race?
Pausing should be unbanned. I don't want it to be like "If you disagree with the current rules and want fame and fortune, tough. You'll have to comply with the rules of this monopolistic community.", and comply with my temptation to believe communities can be vulnerable to making bad rules.
I would have to assume that the Koopa Troppa tunnel skip had to possible since it's apparently possible to fully complete Marii Tennis N64 completely legally without hacking the console as we apparently found try. The technology to TAS was probably not mabe available for the game yet, if it did infact exist already. Also the GameShark device might not have even made created yet as well. I would also theorize that the devs purposely intended for these tracks to be unbroken unless they read the specific notes that they specifically wrote expecting this kind of speed running to be done on those tracks.
Maybe some the skips have been done by other smaller TH-camrs. People always tend to forget there is other people speed running the game, they probably do not have any film equipment to film what they are doing. If they do, they are not uploading them or they are filmed on someone else's phone.
I would probably assume that the technology did infsct exist, like the GBA back device now that everyone is aware of it. The pin entry for credit card systems apparently was already created, despite my initial disbelief at first. Perhaps TAS was made around the similar time period? We even talking about it back then as well saying something like even it does already exist, it is going to sometime to actually get it to be added to the technology considering how unbelievable it is at first. The Pokémon Battle Revolution powersave file that we acquired directly from the game has the trophy side of the game basically displayed in PBR format, so maybe it is fully completed by now? Maybe better proof that it is already fully finished is the powersave that we acquired directly from Mario Party 8. It displays completely everything that the game has available in its disposal, as well the only way that I am currently aware of to wipe our the save data on the files on as well. They must have future proofed somehow, but it must be through a button combination or something like that. Cross Stitchong was definitely made before it noticed by the large majority of the public. That hardware even has restrictions on how it can initially get used in the first place. There is also flip cameras that apparently get more functionality from additional add-ons, maybe the TAS technology does to considering that similar technology has more levels to its than initially meets the eye.
