While not strictly a Zelda game, honorable mentions go out to the Smash Bros. series, where Link's bombs can go invisible, aid in recovery, reach otherwise seemingly inaccessible places in break the targets, and do other things...
For sure. In Melee (and probably all the other games), Link can leave a bomb on a platform if he's holding a bomb and presses Z at a specific timing while jumping through the platform. I've seen Link mains set up some sick plays with this technique. Of course, your opponent can pick the bombs up and use them against you, but most Melee players are so not accustomed to using items that they just....don't.
Fun fact about the Ball and chain from TP, the damage of the ball is quite literally that of a bomb, so you can use it to burn cobwebs and similar things. This is because the Ball can destroy bomb walls, and they neglected to remove the burning effect that a bomb has when they copied the code over.

Not many people know it, but bombs have helped speedrunners in Tri Force Heroes too! Using the little "stumble" animation when Link ends a dash and tries to keep running, you can drop bombs inside walls, or even right through narrow walls. With this you can hit switches, break blocks and kill enemies early, or do some weird reverse out-of-bounds tricks. Not to mention a few tricks by combining bombs with some other items.
I think you really undersold just how powerful wind bombs have been in BotW. Before BLSS, they were on par or even above the utility of bullet time bounces
They are totally above bullet time bounces. They can be used anywhere, even in shrines, while BTBs could only be used with frost weapons, specific setups, or the red bokos on the plateau.
Hey, I saw that link between worlds wasn't mentioned in this video, so I'd like to. In tower of Hera, speedrunner place a bomb on the edge of one of those switch blocks, hit the switch raising it up, then use gale rod just as it explodes to get hit by the blast. You can now climb up a bit more out of bounds using the gale rod to skip a large section of the tower.
Your explanation of ESS in OOT (11:56) is a little off. The slight tilt is tilting left or right enough so that when stood still links feet shuffle and he turns but without moving left or right. This is called "ESS position". This needs to be held the entire superslide as tilting too far or letting go will immediately stop the slide. You can pause buffer to tilt into ESS position on the opposite side in order to circle left or right and you turn on the spot when focus target (Z button on N64 controller) is released and move again when it is held down.
high level OOT runners typically don't pause buffer ESS angle changes since the game runs at 20fps. Majora's mask on the other hand has 60 input frames a second so it's basically impossible to change the angle of a HESS without dropping it in real time

Awesome video. I really like how you decided to credit every person that found each respective glitch, it's very rare nowadays that people do this. But I'm not *that* silly if you know what I mean ;)
For Skyward Sword: (1) The bomb vineclip in Sky Keep is only used on the HD version, because the invisible floor underneath the room that was present on the Wii version was removed. On the Wii version, it's easier and faster to do the vineclip to drop down to the invisible floor. (2) Skyward Sword additionally has a bomb boost that is used to get over a fence in bokoblin base in the 100% category, and get to the whip faster, skipping a platform cycle. (This is only possible because we can skip the cutscene where your items are taken away using BiT) (3) Maybe a piece of small tech, not really a glitch, but you can pick up your own bombs with the hook beetle, which the speedrun uses in almost every situation where the game expects you to carry a bomb flower with the hook beetle.
Skyward Sword also had its own variant of the megaflip. If you put a bomb down and backflipped with a certain rhythm you'd backflip a little higher, which earlier on was used at least a few times in Ancient Cistern. Obviously it got outclassed way later. Shoutouts to Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair. I found Bomb Jumps in that because the bombs had noticeable knockback, which started the race of looking for paywall skips of various kinds. I believe it's used to 24 bees to get an overworld bee, and it's used a few times in all overworld tonics.

I remember when my friend first explained low%. Something like "It's where you only get the minimum number of things absolutely required to beat the game." "So like, just bombs and bombchus then?"
There are also a few bomb glitches in Link's Awakening! In the original, bombs can be used on room borders to activate most cutscenes in the game (known as a bomb trigger), which allows players to skip the entire Marin side-quest before D4. In the remake, there're also bomb glitches that utilize the Roc's Feather! When you jump with the feather and die to a bomb, when you revive with a medicine, you can get onto ledges and geometry that you normally wouldn't be able to reach! It's not as useful, but it can let players skip straight to D4 without the key by getting on top of the keyhole ledge and just walking through the waterfall into the dungeon!
0:21 Funnily enough, in The Wind Waker, Bombs are actually obtained quite a ways into the game; you need to have cleared two dungeons (Dragon Roost Island's and Forest Haven's dungeons) to get two Pearls, then you need to sail to Greatfish Isle before being told to head to Windfall Island - which is where you FINALLY get explosives, after watching the pirates loot the obnoxious bomb-seller's stock and then sneaking into their ship. So yeah, kinda ironic you used TWW footage whilst saying "one of the first items you receive in just about every game". Not quite true here.

For wind waker, I'm really surprised you didn't mention barrier skip, as it's one of the biggest skips in the game, and is done using a bomb. You even have a clip of barrier skip in the intro!
While there aren't any glitches related to bombs in Zelda 1, (Beyond weird behavior with darknuts) they are EXTREMELY important in the speedrun, and speedrunners have learned how to manipulate guaranteed bomb drops precisely.
How could you make a video on bomb glitches is Zelda games, including Twilight Princess, without mentioning the _INFINITE BOMB __-arrows-__ GLITCH!_ It requires triggering a minigame in a weird way and then warping out. The minigame requires using bomb arrows, so it gives the player infinite bombs and arrows for the duration of the minigame. By teleporting out like this, you keep that property letting you blow up just about everything in sight. It's more of a glitch _for_ bombs than a glitch _with_ bombs, so maybe that's why it wasn't mentioned.
There is a bomb glitch, of a sort, in the original Legend of Zelda. It's a variation of the Khananakey. Basically if you are in a room with a bombable wall and a locked door, you can bomb the wall and pass through the locked door as the bomb is going off. This is difficult to do in time but it can get you through the locked door for free if you have no keys. Alas, this has no practical application on any vanilla speedrun route that I am aware of, but it can potentially come into play in randomizer. In the vanilla run, most of the bomb tricks revolve around acquiring them. "10th Enemy has the bomb" refers to a consecutive counter. Kill 9 enemies without getting hit, and bomb the 10th to get a bomb drop. If the 10th is an enemy that doesn't drop anything, the bomb will store for your next drop.
I suppose its a relic of history now, but the goron bomb jump was quite big in MM sequence breaking for a long time. It's quite a versatile move, though hovering came to overshadow it for obvious reasons. Also im struggling to come up with a zelda game worse than zelda 2. Was triforce heroes that bad?
@@Abyssoft I will say zelda 2 is a far, far better game if a game over spawned you at the last town visited instead of at the beginning of the game. Which they totally had the ability to do. They just...didn't for some reason.

You could have mentioned that the first game did use bombs for speedrunning, but in more of an exploit kind of way using the loot tables. To get bombs to drop to kill Ganon fast
Full disclosure, I did have a section scripted out going over the loot table, but it was obviously an exploit that wasn't to do with a bomb when you got into the details so I scrapped it
You forgot the bomb clip from Botw (don't exactly know how it works but I've done it before: If you set a bomb, backflip and explode the bomb in the exact frame, you can clip through the floor)
smh twilight princess is objectively the best 3d zelda get outta here super interesting seeing (almost) all the bomb glitches neatly lined up and explained! knew about most of them, but some of the details had escaped me and it brings back a fresh appreciation for bombs
7:58 why would you need that to skip mido? You can just backflip over the guy with the right angle which is not paticularly difficult to achieve in first person. I cant envision this saving any time to speak of assuming both are perfect, but im not to familiar from personal experience with megaflips, is it more consistent (that is to say, yes, of course anyone can backflip over midow, but it might take maybe more attempts on average? Ironically i have bomb hovered to ganons castle before :D)

The minigame requires using bomb arrows, so it gives the player infinite bombs and arrows for the duration of the minigame. By teleporting out like this, you keep that property letting you blow up just about everything in sight. It's more of a glitch _for_ bombs than a glitch _with_ bombs, so maybe that's why it wasn't mentioned.
the conveyor glitch in Alttp is called Ancilla Misslotting. its more than just bombs that make it work, its deeply complicated
Great video! Looking forward to the handhelds video!
Imagine ignoring the Bomb Clip in OOT

Love your vibes and subbed after watching for 2min. Definitely going to check out more of your stuff
Thanks, happy to have you, and new content every 2-3 weeks (usually!)
Shocked this never used the Zelda cartoon bomb-shield fly GIF. They knew! :D
in Link’s awakening remake on the switch, bombs is used along with tracy boosting with a fox to get on top of barriers.
My Zelda tier list will be revealed in due time
@@Abyssoft I will say zelda 2 is a far, far better game if a game over spawned you at the last town visited instead of at the beginning of the game. Which they totally had the ability to do. They just...didn't for some reason.
in tww bombs are also used in a major trick called bomb push clips, used for barrier skip and ealry earth temple
he literally mentions it in the first 10 seconds of the video
@@mrnoneofurbusiness7942 that’s the actor unloading method, so no
always a pleasure when you release a video. also majora's mask definitely objectively best game 💯
Orc arena of time is still my favorite game. Also, this was A great video. Although blss is far less of a fit imo for this than wind bombs / bil, since blss doesnt reqeuire bombs at all, it just requires an overworld object that can be picked up
I feel like windbombs would have been a better example for BOTW bombs instead of BLSS because you can do BLSS with pretty much anything that link can pick up
Great analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
Man, bombs have always been so broken....
They're intended for breaking things, so it only makes sense!
You could have mentioned that the first game did use bombs for speedrunning, but in more of an exploit kind of way using the loot tables. To get bombs to drop to kill Ganon fast
Full disclosure, I did have a section scripted out going over the loot table, but it was obviously an exploit that wasn't to do with a bomb when you got into the details so I scrapped it
there are a lot of these glitches that are used in randomizers where, you need to check every chest instead of completing it fastest necessarily
You forgot the bomb clip from Botw (don't exactly know how it works but I've done it before: If you set a bomb, backflip and explode the bomb in the exact frame, you can clip through the floor)
Didn’t know you were a Majoras Mask supremacist. I respect it.
How is OoT the next game in the series after ALttP? What do we have against the Game Boy?
Nothing, the video would have been over an hour if I included the handheld titles, hence why it's only the main line Zelda's.
@@Abyssoft the... the handheld titles literally ARE mainline Zelda games?? They're all core parts of the official timeline.
Super slide is one of the most useful glitches for casual playthroughs ever ever seen
What I've learned from games is that anything that messes with physics can be broken. Look at bombs, tree launches from BotW, hovercrafts from BotW.
Link: "So I went to Ganondorfs castle and said *boom* you looking for this?"
Me playing through Kaizoalltp: Hmmm, yes. I wonder.
this just goes to show that you shouldn't give elf boys bombs, because they will break the fabric of reality with them somehow
I wonder how much time of my life i can save not learning about Bomb Sliding AGAIN by not watching this
BLSS works with any liftable object. Bombs are generally the most convenient option, but it really isn't a "bomb glitch".
Great video but I’m more blown away that majoras mask and wind water released two years apart… 😵💫 how?
smh twilight princess is objectively the best 3d zelda get outta here
super interesting seeing (almost) all the bomb glitches neatly lined up and explained! knew about most of them, but some of the details had escaped me and it brings back a fresh appreciation for bombs
This guy sounds like what I’d imagine Chills would sound like if he had two lungs
(to be clear, i was using savestates when doing the bomb hovering. that stuff is hard)
Glad you used gymnast86 footage for wind waker. I know a lot of people think linkus is better but who won all the randomizer races??
One game in which they were not able to abuse the bomb:
Zelda 2: Adventure of Link. There were no bombs for them to abuse, strangely!
BLSS may be better but I'll always get a smile on my face whenever I see Link launch off an enemies head on a board at mock10
btw you dont need bombs for BLSS.
any pickupable object like rocks, snowballs, etc, can be used instead of the bomb.
