- On one corner we have the Galaxy Z Fold6, what Samsung calls as The Ultimate Foldable powered by Galaxy AI, and then on the other we have last year’s Galaxy Z Fold5, what the company called as the device to unfold your world, back when AI wasn’t really as much of a thing. The question left is if it’s really worth to consider either the old or the new, and especially when software updates have treated the old one so well? I’m Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and it’s time for another comparison, let’s talk about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 vs Galaxy Z Fold5.

The only reason I went from 5 to 6. Major discount trading in my 5. And government discount. It was a no brainer.

What feature truly justified the purchase? Convince me lol
@@HumanStateOfEmergency for me it was the better cooling (the fold gets HOT even with case on) the slightly more refined design (I'm a sucker for the square look and smaller bezels) , it's lighter, and over all looks more refined. But the BIGGEST and real reason I upgraded is because I basically got the phone for next to nothing. Got $1530 from samsung in trade in and promo credits ( which is more than what I paid for my current fold already) and then I got 100+ in cash back using my credit card and Rakuten. I still have bill credits through my carrier from my current device so if I add that in on top of the 3 months of youtube for free that I use a ton of and the free memory upgrade, I'm basically getting $2100 in value for a phone that cost $2000.

I'm in the minority of people that prefer the thinner outside display. I work in a hospital, and being able to use the display with one hand in a fast-paced environment is very welcomed.
Have you got it? Coz I had to return mine, I thought the same thing having a thinner outer screen would be good for one handed use but it actually drove me crazy😂

I agree! I’ve been using the iPhone mini since 2020 and the fold’s out screen is nearly the same as the mini! It’s all the comfort of a small phone, but you’ve got a whole tablet in your pocket!

I made the switch - but not from the Fold 5. The jump from the Fold 4 to the Fold 6 is a true upgrade in speed, performance, wireless performance & stability, feel, screens, and more. Based on what many can afford to do, where we often have to skip a generation to afford to consider the upgrade. Looking from this perspective, the update is very worthwhile.
Took the Z FOLD 6, never before I had a "fold" form factor but I had the MOTO RAZR 40 ULTRA and the "flip" form factor is ok but just that and dot.. Taking my SIM out from a S24 ULTRA to put it in the newly arrived Z FOLD 6 I had a strange filling like I do not want to actualy do it, the Z FOLD 6 sat on my room table TWO DAYS before one evening I found the will to make the switch.. Now, three days in the exploration of this COMPUTER one thing is clear to me, I am not going back to the S24 ULTRA cause the cameras are not something that I use..
This new Z FOLD 6 is a revelation to me and I have only the best words to say about this device, now if somebody finds it too expensive then they should look elswere..

That’s correct unless you can get good carrier discount and trade in deals. Although mine is a 2 year contract. But when the next iPhone 17pro comes out I’m most likely going to pay around $100-200 for the upgrade.
Samsung does even better deals.

I have the fold 5 and now the fold 6. The new size of the front screen is way more comfortable, but I feel that the phone is a bit more uncomfortable to hold with one hand when open and it kind of feels a bit more heavy due to the phone leaning a bit more and yes I know that it's lighter. Might just be me but I feel that the colors are a bit more muted and a bit less sharp. The screens are great, but again, I just feel like the colors do not pop as much.
Theres a new vividness setting in the Display settings
Display -> Screen Mode -> Select 'Vivid' , then tap on 'Advancd Options' -> here you get a slider to set the amount of vividness
Maybe your colors can pop more
Ur a 💯 percent right about the colors i was like wtf is going on with the colors.... my z5 looks sharper and more rich with the colors 😂 apparently its all the 6s but they claim there's an additional feature to help it... will see or imma return it so fast

If you have the fold 5, it's not worth the cost. But if you have the fold 3 or older, maybe considering the generous trade in program
Was really hesitant to pull the trigger on my paid off z fold 4. But finally pulled the trigger on the 6. Hopefully I won't be disappointed and can tell a real difference
Received my preorder last Friday. It looks and feels fantastic! The refinement is absolutely on point on every angle. The built feels so robust! I upgraded from my current Z Flip 5 and had the best trade in discount deals. Samsung really take good care of their customers!

Two days ago my Z Fold 4 inner display just stopped working. I had opened it and used it earlier in the day with no problems, then about an hour and a half later I opened it to a black screen. Even the outer display wouldn't come on. I tried several button holds and the outside one will come on as long as I don't open the inside screen. I'll get a System UI error once it has restarted. If I barely open the phone as it is restarting the inner display will come on, then it will shut off if I open it further and the outside display takes about 45 seconds to start working again. The interface will be slow and not responsive. It's so weird. This is my second Fold 4. I'm still loving the form factor, but I hate this uncertainty about it as a solid piece of hardware. Plus if the screen had just waited another two months I'd have the money to trade it in. Now I won't be able to trade it in for the higher offer.

Hello, love the review. I have a question for you or anybody using the Z Fold 5. Can you access Goggle Assistant or Gemini by talking to the phone when the screen is locked? I have a brand new Redmagic 9 Pro that can´t do that, however my old trusty OnePlus 6 performs that task like a champ. Thanks in advance!
Coming from the 5 on paper the 6 doesnt seem like much but in hand...its a very surprising difference. And after having had 3 folds i can finally text on the outer screen!
Sure i would have loved a camera upgrade that can compete with the likes of the vivo x fold 3 pro or honor magic v3 but overall Im happy with the fold 6
I don't know... I'm still waiting for my z fold 6 from spectrum... They are on back order... I've got the one plus open and the Google fold, so I'm not sure I'm gonna like the Samsung since I traded the z fold 5 for the one plus open... And all the TH-cam reviewers aren't too Keen on it... Maybe I cancel my order... What do you think if you've got this one?

What about using the rear cameras for selfies? That's something that's unique to folding phones, and makes for some excellent pics, because you're using the best cameras on that phone.
I have an s22 ultra. Should i upgrade to the 5? Im pretty big on battery!! I had the fold, and that's why i changed to the s22 when it came out. Any toughts?
The Z Fold 6 is a major upgrade over any Samsung Fold other than the 5...and if what you owned was one of the 1st three Z Folds then the 6 is a huge upgrade in every way possible.
Now, if your priority is battery life, then know that any Ultra is going to be quite a bit better in that regard. But, the Fold 6 battery usually gets me through my day just fine, and on particularly busy days, it charges fast enough that a quick 15 minutes plugged in is more than enough to get me through the rest of the day.
I was always a Note/Ultra user, but now I find that I can't go back to using a regular slab phone. That being said, I'd also never own a folding pnone without a very good insurance or protection plan.

I personally wanted to trade my Fold 5 for the Fold 6, but the trade-in discount in Indonesia just not appealing enough.
Guess I'll hold on to my Fold 5 until the warranty period expires next year and see what will Fold 7 looks and feels like then.
Hopefully it will house a bigger battery and a less reflective inner display, and also a less obstrusive crease

I have a Z Fold 3 and I'm not upgrading. I didn't use the inner screen nearly as much as I thought I would and I really miss the S-Pen of the Note/Ultra series. The price increase for even a 3-year "upgrade" in this case just isn't worth it. The crease is still there, the hinge will definitely still break and overall I'm just not impressed. Samsung really need to up their game.

Have to disagree the upgrade from my Fold 3 was worth it just for the cameras alone. They may not be S24 Ultra cameras but a huge improvement over the Fold3. The design is a lot easier for one handed use.@DENVEROUTDOORMAN
The Fold 6 in the local store doesnt unfold flat. When unfolded, the inner screen is 175-178° open. Which is weird. But yes, in the hands, if feel significantly thinner, lighter and I love the square design

Is the Z Fold 6 3 mm or 1 mm wider on the front screen? I heard it both ways from this video.
It's just a hair less than 3mm wider on the inner display and about 1mm wider on the outer display. You would think that the 3mm difference would be most noticeable, but for me, that 1mm wider outer display took it from being useless for anything involving typing to being perfectly acceptable when it's not convenient or safe to use the inner display.
@@edwinramos4910 I have used my Z Fold 6 for about 1 week. I can't tell the different in width especially if you use a phone case for the front screen. But you can elongate the keyboard (height wise) and it does make it easier to type. Same width but taller keys.
@@allsportsexpert I might try making the keyboard taller to see if it makes it even easier for me, so thanks for the suggestion. But, for my hands, that 1mm of extra width makes a big difference. I HATED the outer display on my Z Fold 5, and while I still greatly prefer using the inner display of my Z Fold 6, I don't dislike the outer one.
Yo man when you hold both of the phones, which one is 5 or 6 look the same phone ps I’m android guy iPhone suck but folding look the same every year on Samsung folders 😅😅
Just look at which one is boxier. That's the Z Fold6. Also, Z Fold4 and its predecessors have a gap when being folded, while the Z Fold5 and Z Fold6 are gapless. They might look a bit identical, but if you've been using Samsung phones, they're pretty easy to distinguish.

@@Kickenwing13 uh I'm still on my first marriage and 2nd, there was no improvements to justify a price increase. Same battery, same camera, same charging speed. If you had a fold 3 or 4 then it's justifiable.
@zmcdaniel24 That's awesome, dude! Congrats on that. When I'm on my first/ only wife and have kids, then I'll 100% start rocking the same phone for as long as humanly possible. But right now, it fills the void.
I like it in the hand, especially the black variant although admittedly, that is nullified by the fact that the pain is not included so I'm stuck with the S-Pen case. The AI stuff is all right even if I worried about where that s*** is headed in the future. Genuinely enjoy the front screen being just noticeably wider. I spend less time correcting my texts done on the front screen because of the awkward aspect ratio and size. And also it's new and shiny.
@@zmcdaniel24 and price increase everything has gone up. My economical background isn't good enough to figure out if it was proportional to the rising inflation along the supply chain, but everything has gone up so I can live with it
I would never keep a fold beyond a year .. alot problems which would surface. I bought my fold 5 since launch and now sold it and gotten the fold 6. 😊
The Think Outside foldable keyboard ay 9:08: a very old and rare piece of tech that I own 2 of. And I thought I was the only old head techie that uses it. My hat off to you for having and using one. It's, in my opinion, the best portable keyboard because of its sleek design and incredibly springy keys.

@@VolunteerMachineryllc I'm in Dubai and imported the Chinese version from average dad tech store (he's a youtuber). There's Wanda mobile and other websites too.
The phone is coming out Globally and in the EU very soon also (early september), but I don't think it'll come to the US due to the bans on Chinese mobiles the gov is doing there.
For people in the US I'd recommend waiting for the Pixel Fold 9 which is coming in August, or the OnePlus Open 2 which is slated fit for very early 2025.

I love the look and the size. Could haven been an ideal phone for me if not of the following.
1. Front and rear camera is behind compare to other competitors.
2. Indisplay camera is a crap - its like having a phone with inborn/default defect… if they cant make it better, then remove it.
3. Vessels are still thick at this age - probably they will do next year
4. No built in spen
These things for me should be in the package considering the price.
I think samsung is aware of these and can actually improve if they wish to do so, but cant think anymore of innovation in the incoming years so they will do these changes one by one in the incoming years. They know some pepple will still buy…

You guys never say the truth when doing such comparisons when the phones are recently launched.
After a year, when the next phone is around you guys crib about all the negatives of the phone. Just not to piss off big corporates like Samsung. I miss those days of TH-cam when genuine reviews used to come out.

Hello Jaime, have you ever encountered main screen issues with your Fold 5? The only thing that scares me with these foldables is the main screen breakage issue.
I haven't heard of many issues with the 5. I have the 5, the 4 I heard a lot of problems with the brushes coming out of the hinge and not opening all the way. I had the 3 also and the biggest problem from that seemed the inner screen protector peeling at the crease and if not removed or replaced would eventually crack the screen from it pulling on it. I really like the 6 but I will probably get the 7.

I think it's unfortunate that now is the standard about comparing two similar phones but the competition never received this type of introduction with their recycled releases.

I bought a new Fold 5 at a 44% discount compared to the new Fold 6 price - seems like a good deal to me!
The dust resistance is not really a selling point as it is only for particles over 1mm so are you going to measure every grain in dusty environments? Still best to assume it is not dust resistant and keep it away from that risk.
Please when reviewing acknowledge non-US subscribers as we do not get trade-ins and deals like the US, so when you talk about it being worth it, it certainly is not in the rest of the world. For example, in the UK we only get £550 trade-in on a Fold 5 so upgrading would cost £1250. It clearly is not worth it and I would argue that is the case for the Fold4 as it would cost £1450 after trade-in, and the Fold6 still has too many negatives to justify that expense for those of us with limited disposable income.
As for two-day battery life, I have not seen a review yet that would indicate that is even close to being possible. Maybe your usage is minimal, but I would say for most users a good one-day battery but probably needs charging overnight if you need it for a whole second day.
I'll probably wait and see how the new Pixel Fold holds up. If it doesn't turn out well, then I may go for the Z Fold 6.
The new Pixel Fold s getting bad reviews. I wouldn't wait for it.

I own a galaxy ultra note S20 (whatever, old phone). Haven't switched yet. I love big screen phones. Im tempted to just buy the z fold 5 because to me the 6 is just the 5 with updates. What do yall think i should do?
Keeping my Z Fold 3 until the Z fold "Slim" comes out or 7. The 6 has nothing Worth upgrading for when my 3 does essentially a lot of the same except for AI features thst i personally dont care for. If anything the AI bloatware makes me want to keep my ZF3 even more. Plus it only costs me $99 to get a replacement lol

fold 5 is better than the fold 6 very similar phones even if you don't think so well 1,900 vs 500 dollars price tag will change your mind
Thickness and Weight is irrelevant once you put a case protector. Very few people use the fold naked.
Funny thing is the new case is also thinner and lighter than fold 5 because the new case has it's own camera bump rather than thick and flush like fold 5, at least the official one. But with other brand, it's pretty much unnoticeable.
Use my fold naked all the time, the bus passengers prefer me with clothes on though ...

My phone place has a good deal going on, I can trade in my iPhone 14 Plus for either the z fold 6 or the s24 ultra for free via monthly credits each month. But idk which one to get
If you take a bunch of pictures I would get S24 otherwise I would get fold. It’s better for productivity and media consumption imo. I plan to use it for scrolling social media, TH-cam and games. I don’t use camera a lot and that seems to be biggest turn off for people.

The trade in value is so worth it. The huge difference is the weight. I am upgrading from zf5 and yes, zf6 is way lighter and worth the upgrade. The front screen is wider and I am glad that I upgraded. If you are hesitant, don’t, it is worth it.

I'm a light user (no games, no GPS on a daily basis, no 5g) and most days I need to charge my fold 4 twice a day. And it's been like this since the beginning. And no...there is no problem with it. It's just phisics. Large inner screen + small battery = charging twice a day.

I upgraded from the Fold 5. It feels so much more balanced and I now love the narrower display and part of the other 1% who likes it.
Why does Z Fold 6 not have wifi 7?

That aspect ratio using TH-cam on the big screen is atrocious. I'll look into foldables when the aspect ratio gets closer to normal.

And yet, the external screen of the Fold 6 is much wider than that of the iPhone 13 Mini, it is even only slightly less wide than that of the iPhones X/11 Pro by 2-3mm 🤷🏽♂️
For some, the external display of the Fold 6 is perfect, but, it's true that (in my opinion) Samsung should have added those 3mm to make its external display perfect for everyone.
A Galaxy Fold with an external screen 3mm wider than the Fold 6 and with the same height as an S24 Ultra would be perfect, both for the ease of use of the external screen, and for the ratio of the internal screen which will be more rectangular than square.
But it would have to be a maximum thickness of 9-10mm like its Chinese competitors, a battery 🔋 of at least 5000mAh, but above all new bigger main photo sensors, especially (and at least) a 64mp 3X zoom like the OnePlus Open/12.

On my ZF5, I think i will skip the upgrade. The reason is not even money related, as with discount, i only pay about 550 for the update. But i simply dont have the time to migirate files, resetup acounts and all that jazz. There really isnt that much difference this year.
I also think my exclusive grey color ZF5 is a much better looking phone than all color opitoon of ZF6 of this year.
