The addition of a charging grip, variable aperture, and filter ring really makes this a complete kit. I recommend using a 67mm MC UV filter in all yr shots. Zoom shots comes out more detailed & less fuzzy. I'm having a good quality Multicoated UV filter on my 13U with camera kit & very happy with the results.

Finally a TH-camr that speaks calmly and in proper English. How delightful. This seems to be a very promising phone. I especially like the variable aperture, which I'm used to on my so-called proper camera. All the video functionalities I find less interesting. By the way, the 13 Pro does also have similar log possibilities, doesn't it? The only draw back, however, is its OS. I'm just not keen on MIUI nor HyperOS, but Nova Launcher can be a blessing to some extent. I'm by the way curious how this phone holds up to the upcoming Xperia 1 VI.

If you see in the settings you can actually change if your selfie cam focus on making your face beigter or have the correct exposure its called metering in the camera settings

Last year I took 20 000 pictures in Lofoten Norway. I have many cameras cos I need to experience as much as possible to understand what is going on. My best camera is a fuji X-T100. I have for a long time been wondering what to upgrade to. I never thought it would be a phone. Now I am not sure anymore. I cant find a video yet on youtube of someone comparing a real camera to this phone, and I need to get some pixelpeeping going cos its zooming in that pictures fall apart. Almost any camera takes pictures that look good on youtube when not zooming in. I have been wondering to get the Panasonic S1 and even the Fuji GFX 100S for photographing paintings for reproduction/prints. But with this AI coming , its all going to change and the AI can "fix" my paintings for me before I print them. Great video. Thanks a lot

Nice video! Is there anything which gives you an ND effect, silky water effect without a tripod? For iPhone, there are plenty apps for that effect. Huawei implemented a mode for that.

I've seen reviews talk about a mediocre portrait mode on the 14U. Then I saw this video and figured - I'll just use the main lens' natural DOF and skip portrait mode altogether because the lens itself is already pretty good. But yes, would definitely like to see improvements made to the front camera's HDR. Xiaomi's missing a large market of people if this phone can't perform for video calls or front facing content creation.

Mate you just purchased an 1 year old phone for new iPhone really?. Could have waited & made better decision Xiaomi 14, 14 pro & 14 Ultra are all Top tiers. It obviously beats any smartphone camera interms of everything from Photography to Videography. It is even better in video than 15 pro max. You get same video quality of Xiaomi 14 - iPhone 15, Xiaomi 14 pro - 15 pro & Xiaomi 14 Ultra > iPhone 15 pro max (especially low light videography).

Hey Simon, Please try Motioncam Pro on this beast cause it can do 14 bit HDR video even in Direct LOG video. If you do 8K binned , you will get the most detailed 4K video ever. Edit: Also motioncam can record video with lut baked in 10bit ( 14bit in 14 U) .

Hey Simon... great in depth review... i am planning on buying xiaomi 14 ultra... but for me front camera is of utmost importance... do you think it is software related issue and hence can be fixed or do you think it is hardware related shortcoming... Extended depth of field gives you more in focus near the subject only. For example food in the plate, with extended FOW a part of the table will also be in focus.
As an amateur photographer I already feel overwhelmed by the amount of features. I believe in the end at best 80% of people will end up using only 20% of camera's features.
The camera is amazing yes, but the charging is equally amazing if not more so. 80 watt Wireless Charging, that is insane. Charge this up double as quick wireless as Samsung with wired. Samsung and Apple wireless charging I believe 15 watt.

Hi Simon. It looks like they fixed the selfie exposure in the new update. I gave it a try and it correctly adjusts the exposure when tapping on my face.
AI option is that the phone detects what its taking a photo of and adjusts colors accordingly for that scene ie food, plants, flowers, documents etc and the BETA feature is sharpening 30x and beyond shots using AI. So as you can see the 2 AI modes are completely different to each other.
What would make this phone the ultimate photographers phone is if THE PHONE had a two stage shutter button just like Nokia/Microsoft used to and how Sony still does with the Xperia line. No idea why Xiaomi hasn’t done this yet.

Man that's a nice camera. Hows the phone software? Bearable? I had the Mi 11 Ultra and it was a great piece of hardware but the software let it down with all the bugs and jank and software updates were few and far between. I'm sure it's better now but still dunno if I trust them enough to pay the $$$$

If you’re thinking about getting one, just do it. You will not regret it.

Xiaomi 13 Pro stock camera has only 8-bit log video. You can get 10bit video with third party mcpro24fps or motioncam
