With artificial intelligence, you probably know what I mean. 23mm ultraraw 16bit color pro mode + 50mp tiff format source file, the sample obtained after tapaz sharpen AI intelligent sharpening is amazing. The upper limit of Xiaomi 14u is much higher than that of oppo, oppo is only suitable for mobile phones that never post-process and directly output jpg player.

Just got mine today, huge box with the camera kit included! So far I really like the screen, that slight curve just at the very edge feels really nice and strikes a good balance between curved or flat. I definitely do not miss that bump the 13 Ultra has on the back. I have one of the Xiaomi 50W wireless charging stands they sell on their site and can confirm that works with this phone (w/case) without any issues. I'm excited to see what I can get out of the camera and the kit will come in handy when I don't want to lug my mirrorless around. Great overview!
P.S. Don't forget to turn on motion tracking focus in camera settings! Picks up eyes, people, animals, plants, cars, planes etc etc. Best subject identifier I've seen in a phone!
P.P.S. So far the only thing I don't like is how you're now stuck with the HyperOS control center on the down swipe. Having to swipe down on the left side of the screen for notifications is going to require some retraining of my brain.
@@olethembonesI personally prefer it. If i want my notifications i swipe on one side if i want my controls i swipe on the other. But I've been using a custom rom for my Mi11 forever now (it wasn't because i disliked MiUI it was because the roms work better with root, lol.)

Great review Mr Spurt as always, but you omitted one important point - if you are in the UK and buy from the Xiaomi web site before the end of March you get the camera kit AND a mi pad 6 10 inch tablet thrown in. Mine came last Friday, phone is amazing but the tablet is really good too. If you don't want the tablet just sell it, retails for £450 or thereabouts so you must be able to sell it for £200, maybe more. Plus, there's a £50 voucher they just give you during checkout. So i got the phone, photo kit and the tablet for £1249. Well chuffed.

Diminishing returns on phones have gotten to the point that cameras are about the only thing thts emphasized in videos ....as an average consumer who doesnt really care about OIS, 100x zoom, telephoto, Zeiss, etc....its all the same, just the same boring slab from last year with ever so slight but heavily emphasized camera upgrades which are always put to shame with the equipment they film and shoot the video with ...but ranting aside it's a well done video as usual...I'm just ready for something new to change this dull period

Well, if you handed a Chinese version of Xiaomi with Hyper OS to a Xiaomi fan it would be quite more easy for them to tell the difference from MIUI. I got Chinese Xiaomi 14 Pro quite recently and Hyper OS on it looks quite different than on global Xiaomi 13T Pro in some menus.
It does look very nice and at present in the UK their website is giving you the Ultra professional kit and a Xiaomi Pad 6 in when you place your order 😲😲

Got mine full of happiness , and yeah it's great I have to say day two there was moisture behind the screen , sent it back , got a replacement , second one was great but also had moisture after about a week behind screen and camera module despite keeping it dry , so bummed as it's a fantastic fantastic power house and great bit of tech , not shure how o feel though id share😂
I got the Xiaomi 14 ultra and a friend of mine got the Samsung s24 ultra. If you don't put them side by side, the photos are great in both (Looking more natural in S24 ultra so far), but you do see x14 ultra a bit better than the s24. We are now testing the video (the FILM mode is great and the variable aperture is a game changer). I do prefer myself the flat screen in the s24 ultra, but I am coming from a OnePlus 6 (What a classic...), so could be a matter of time to get used to the slight curved edges of the x14. Another thing I noticed, I prefer the OS of the OnePlus and by far the Samsung one, the Xiaomi feels that it's too much "vanilla" and based on 3rd party apps, like they didn't put much thought to it. I don't know if you had that, but in the x14 ultra, seems there is loose part on the camera? And compared to the OnePlus 6, the Xiaomi looks like it weighs a full on brick :d.

What do folks think about this Xiaomi 14 Ultra versus the Samsung S24 Ultra? I can get the Xiaomi for about £900 and the Samsung is about £1249... I was thinking about adding the Xiaomi photo kit to the phone so say £1050 v £1250... That Samsung has ( I think better cameras, the S pen and some interesting AI software - plus maybe a better user experience? Apart from the price difference what do you folks think?
It must run games well even at maxed settings because even the 2020 Xiaomi mi 10 5G can run at the highest settings without any problem. The biggest problem here is that those games doesn't give an option to increase refresh rate to 90Hz ( not only in xiaomi phone's but also in any other android phones ) , I hope Hoyoverse has given 120Hz refresh rate compatibility to the game for this device...
Is it any good for pwm sensitive people? Chris, I ordered the xiaomi 14 ultra thanks to your videos. The honor magic 6 pro is oke, but... don't know. Hope the xiaomi will not kill my eyes like the samsung phones did, will have to figure out which I will keep, the xiaomi or the honor.
Great phones, far better than Samsungs/Sony. Chinese phones are way ahead with the camera! Not even close tbh. I have mi 11 ultra and just can't say goodbye to the screen on the back! Use it for selfys and it's just so nice! Really wish they kept it in some ways with the new ones but I can see why they haven't. Maybe buy the mix fold 4 when that releases.
What audio does it support and does it have SD expansion? Be really interesting to compare this to the upcoming Xperia 1 VI. It'll take a special phone to pull me away from the 1's

To be honest on a paper this phone has everything. In a real world camera test, the software can not keep up with the hardware. I have noticed selfie camera and the main sensor overexposing the image. Hopefully with some new updates this can potentially beat the Vivo x100 pro.
I have had my Honor Magic 6 pro for a week and I love it, Xiaomi 14 ultra was way too much money, the Xiaomi 14 Pro only available in China, so went with the HM6p 👌
Honestly think this is better than the S24 ultra (if you don't use an S pen) Software is surprisingly good, camera is insane and the performance is actually better than the S24 ultra as it has more space for cooling (compared to the Samsung which needs to give up space for the pen)
Better hardware? Arguably yes, best overall phone? The s24 ultra -better software experience -miles better software support -better display -better video -samsung dex -better ecosystem (watch, buds, ring coming soon) -better accesory support (try finding casetify, spigen, pitaka accesories for any Xiaomi) -the spen Global availability plus better customer service
In addition , some stress performance tests show the Xiaomi has higher peak performance, but the S24 has better sustained performance. The Xiaomi throttles more aggressively and gets noticeably hotter.
I would add if people are strong media consumers, things like Dolby vision, Dolby atmos AND many more really good codecs are a BIG difference from the Samsung's Apple approach.

I had this from someone I know who is heavily into phone photography and uses quite a few phones, android and iOS. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this fogging on the inside of the camera lens: “An update. My Xiaomi 14 ultra on its first outing at sunset, the main lens fogged up. It’s now being returned to Xiaomi for a refund. I spoke to Xiaomi. First they said it was normal for the lens to fog up, and just put it in a warm place for 5 mins and it will clear. I said, well my iPhone doesn’t fog up, and nor does any other phone I have had. I then added all my photos from the sunset were ruined. Xiaomi apologised. I said if I put the phone back in my pocket, I’ll miss the sunset. So I asked if they had had any other 14 ultras with the same issue. They said yes and that a change in the manufacturing process was going to be implemented.”
Ikr , had redmi note 10 5g(2022 model) which kept deleting my SD card . Moreover, the phone's screen physically supports 90 hz but guess what ? It's horribly laggy than 60hz
I have this phone for 3 days now and I was shocked it is comfortable to handle,very sleek on the hand. But I am bothered by 2 issues, 1. Main camera fog after few take of pictures outside, the phone becomes extremely hot and battery drain very fast using the camera and secondly the battery is not that great. It drains really fast. I like the phone and traded my pixel 8 pro for it but I might return it to Xiaomi now

Xiaomi is a great brand. It's the only brand that allowed call recording and I recorded all my calls just in case. Long story short I recorded a guy telling me he's going to lie to the police to ruin my life. I was able to use the recording in court and cleared my name. I'm forever thankful to Xiaomi.
Well I am looking to get a New Phone predominantly on the Camera side of things. With that said as Great as the Camera on this phone is I can get the Pixel 8 for £555 at the moment which works out to £100 less than half the price of this Beast so Me Personally I don't think this one is worth it's price tag !
@TechSpurt I also pre ordered one here in the UK. did you not experience camera fogging in the main lens? it happens to me when I'm shooting outside, the temperature is below 10°C and I tinker with pro mode. tbf it disappears quickly in a minute or two but it's still a bother.. would give it a 4/5 still though
The Xiaomi 14 ultra has an amoled display not IPS.... And it's form factor is not bad at all for a big phone... It's a hell of a lot easier to carry around than an s24u....
The only the problem with this phone is that it's 6'7, feels small after Mi 11 Ultra. Not uncomfortably small, like basic xiaomi 14, but still not ideal.
I just watched a review from TeckNick comparing top smartphones cameras and the latest Vivo flagship was incredible. It's hard to believe this is better. Though Xiaomi phones were suspiciously absent from the review.

Good review! No blurry shot when taking pictures of kids or fast moving subjects in different lightning conditions? I remember you mentioning blurry pictures of your daughter with the base Xiaomi 14.
In good lightning it should be ok. If I shoot RAW photos on my S22U, I can catch my daughter in a perfect shot even if she's moving but the lighting has to be perfect, bright and very visible. In low light, it struggles. In saying that, I reckon the Xiaomi 14U could at least catch movement in good lightning. At the very least.

@@mscottpilgrim I was actually waiting for what the Honor Magic 6 Ultimate offers. It releases on the 22nd. Kid photo capabilities is very important for us parents because they grow up fast and moments pass us too quickly. So a good camera phone is ideal :). ALSO I've heard great feedback from Pixel 7 mom's and dad users. Must be true that it's the perfect phone for family photos! They say it captures movement very well. Just a little side note, when I take photos in RAW mode, all RAW settings are on automatic and I use the main sensor and somehow it captures movement with absolutely no problems at all (if in outdoor light settings).

We are now testing the video (the FILM mode is great and the variable aperture is a game changer). I do prefer myself the flat screen in the s24 ultra, but I am coming from a OnePlus 6 (What a classic...), so could be a matter of time to get used to the slight curved edges of the x14. Another thing I noticed, I prefer the OS of the OnePlus and by far the Samsung one, the Xiaomi feels that it's too much "vanilla" and based on 3rd party apps, like they didn't put much thought to it. I don't know if you had that, but in the x14 ultra, seems there is loose part on the camera? And compared to the OnePlus 6, the Xiaomi looks like it weighs a full on brick :d.

What do folks think about this Xiaomi 14 Ultra versus the Samsung S24 Ultra? I can get the Xiaomi for about £900 and the Samsung is about £1249... I was thinking about adding the Xiaomi photo kit to the phone so say £1050 v £1250... That Samsung has ( I think better cameras, the S pen and some interesting AI software - plus maybe a better user experience?
Apart from the price difference what do you folks think?
It must run games well even at maxed settings because even the 2020 Xiaomi mi 10 5G can run at the highest settings without any problem. The biggest problem here is that those games doesn't give an option to increase refresh rate to 90Hz ( not only in xiaomi phone's but also in any other android phones ) , I hope Hoyoverse has given 120Hz refresh rate compatibility to the game for this device...

I have mi 11 ultra and just can't say goodbye to the screen on the back! Use it for selfys and it's just so nice! Really wish they kept it in some ways with the new ones but I can see why they haven't. Maybe buy the mix fold 4 when that releases.

To be honest on a paper this phone has everything. In a real world camera test, the software can not keep up with the hardware. I have noticed selfie camera and the main sensor overexposing the image. Hopefully with some new updates this can potentially beat the Vivo x100 pro.
True..buh also that can be adjusted on pro mode manually buh I guess for most consumers they would prefer auto for quick snaps.

I have had my Honor Magic 6 pro for a week and I love it, Xiaomi 14 ultra was way too much money, the Xiaomi 14 Pro only available in China, so went with the HM6p 👌
Honestly think this is better than the S24 ultra (if you don't use an S pen)
Software is surprisingly good, camera is insane and the performance is actually better than the S24 ultra as it has more space for cooling (compared to the Samsung which needs to give up space for the pen)
S24 ultra is better regarding:
1. Display
2. Battery
3. Software and overall performance
4. Front camera
5. AI if u care

In addition , some stress performance tests show the Xiaomi has higher peak performance, but the S24 has better sustained performance. The Xiaomi throttles more aggressively and gets noticeably hotter.
I would add if people are strong media consumers, things like Dolby vision, Dolby atmos AND many more really good codecs are a BIG difference from the Samsung's Apple approach.

I had this from someone I know who is heavily into phone photography and uses quite a few phones, android and iOS. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this fogging on the inside of the camera lens:
“An update. My Xiaomi 14 ultra on its first outing at sunset, the main lens fogged up. It’s now being returned to Xiaomi for a refund.
I spoke to Xiaomi. First they said it was normal for the lens to fog up, and just put it in a warm place for 5 mins and it will clear. I said, well my iPhone doesn’t fog up, and nor does any other phone I have had. I then added all my photos from the sunset were ruined. Xiaomi apologised. I said if I put the phone back in my pocket, I’ll miss the sunset. So I asked if they had had any other 14 ultras with the same issue. They said yes and that a change in the manufacturing process was going to be implemented.”

Ikr , had redmi note 10 5g(2022 model) which kept deleting my SD card . Moreover, the phone's screen physically supports 90 hz but guess what ? It's horribly laggy than 60hz

I have this phone for 3 days now and I was shocked it is comfortable to handle,very sleek on the hand. But I am bothered by 2 issues, 1. Main camera fog after few take of pictures outside, the phone becomes extremely hot and battery drain very fast using the camera and secondly the battery is not that great. It drains really fast. I like the phone and traded my pixel 8 pro for it but I might return it to Xiaomi now

Xiaomi is a great brand. It's the only brand that allowed call recording and I recorded all my calls just in case. Long story short I recorded a guy telling me he's going to lie to the police to ruin my life. I was able to use the recording in court and cleared my name. I'm forever thankful to Xiaomi.

With that said as Great as the Camera on this phone is I can get the Pixel 8 for £555 at the moment which works out to
£100 less than half the price of this Beast so Me Personally I don't think this one is worth it's price tag !

@TechSpurt I also pre ordered one here in the UK. did you not experience camera fogging in the main lens? it happens to me when I'm shooting outside, the temperature is below 10°C and I tinker with pro mode. tbf it disappears quickly in a minute or two but it's still a bother.. would give it a 4/5 still though
This problem is only in Xiaomi 14. Xiaomi 14 Pro and Ultra not fogging.

The Xiaomi 14 ultra has an amoled display not IPS.... And it's form factor is not bad at all for a big phone... It's a hell of a lot easier to carry around than an s24u....
The only the problem with this phone is that it's 6'7, feels small after Mi 11 Ultra. Not uncomfortably small, like basic xiaomi 14, but still not ideal.

I just watched a review from TeckNick comparing top smartphones cameras and the latest Vivo flagship was incredible. It's hard to believe this is better. Though Xiaomi phones were suspiciously absent from the review.

@@bargepoled I'll have to go watch that video. I'm still thinking the vivo is probably better. MKBHD and MeWhoseTheBoss have been saying for years that vivo flagships are probably the best smartphone cameras there are, but they don't usually get a chance to do an in-depth review.

Good review! No blurry shot when taking pictures of kids or fast moving subjects in different lightning conditions? I remember you mentioning blurry pictures of your daughter with the base Xiaomi 14.
In good lightning it should be ok. If I shoot RAW photos on my S22U, I can catch my daughter in a perfect shot even if she's moving but the lighting has to be perfect, bright and very visible. In low light, it struggles.
In saying that, I reckon the Xiaomi 14U could at least catch movement in good lightning. At the very least.

Kid photo capabilities is very important for us parents because they grow up fast and moments pass us too quickly. So a good camera phone is ideal :).
ALSO I've heard great feedback from Pixel 7 mom's and dad users. Must be true that it's the perfect phone for family photos! They say it captures movement very well.
Just a little side note, when I take photos in RAW mode, all RAW settings are on automatic and I use the main sensor and somehow it captures movement with absolutely no problems at all (if in outdoor light settings).
You can turn on motion shooting. It's great picking up moving objects like kids. Shutter speed is also super fast.
