    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @jchinchilla.r hi, you will miss the cinematic feature if you move to Xperia 1 VI that's for sure as they removed the video pro app !!! In terms of video quality the Xiaomi blows the Sony a million times over ! Because of its 1.63 aperture you can get some very nice and smooth shallow depth of field on the main sensor. All my B-roll and talking shots were filmed with the Xiaomi. I recorded all footage in 10Bit Log at 160mbs, something that the mk 5 and 6 simply cannot do (I used mcpro24fps for all video recording needs)

    The only thing why i would rate the Xperias to be better than X14Ultra is the autofocus.. especially for the moving subjects.. its hard to capture the pictures without blur on X14Ultra.. Sony's eyes and face autofocus is world class. Amazing work bro.. i am using X14Ultra 😎🤣 and the Battery on Sony is great.

    • @ashouhdy
      @ashouhdy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      how ? the motion sensing option and fastshot option just freezes everything in perfect focus !! this is the only phoe i ve used till now that literally freezes the shot

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Can't say I've had issues with the autofocus on the 14 Ultra. The only thing I can think of is because the main sensor is much bigger than the Xperia ones, you really have to adjust your focus specifically on the part you want to be sharp, it's due to how shallow the depth of field is on the main sensor. The Xperia is more forgiving in that sense due to the small main sensor. If shooting moving subjects I'd highly recommend the xiaomi grip (photography kit grip) which enables continuous focus tracking allowing for pin sharp photos too 👍

    How does it perform in both regular and log video modes? I was quite underwhelmed by the new iPhone series, but everyone seems to praise its video capabilities.

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In the regular app log or not it's pretty meh, BUT if you use mcpro24fps then you can record in LOG 10bit up to 4K60 or 4K120 8 bit LOG up to 160mbs making the footage looking fantastic especially when using the main 1 inch type sensor ! If you want to take things even further you can use an app called motion cam that will allow to even shoot in RAW video something that most dslrs don't even do !!! So to answer your question, when it comes to video the Xiaomi is a beast !

      Reviews tell half the story... You see where the X14U shines is the fact it has a dedicated non-periscope zoom lens and unlike the X100U it doesn't require a sensor crop. The resulting photos and especially bokeh are wayyyy ahead of what the X100U can achieve, and that's physics at the end of the day. Bokeh on any periscope lens will look squarish and un-natural. That's the nature of the beast. Also adds to the fa t Xiaomi's compatibility is much better with third party softwares like motion cam and mcpro24fps which allows the Xiaomi to pump out some, if not then best, video footage of ANY mobile phone out there.

      Thanks 👍 and just like any camera you'd have to be very very steady for light trails. The lower the shutter speed the more "dangerous" it becomes. For those type of shots you'd want to stabilise the phone/camera either on a tripod, a wall or something.

The thing is it all comes down to the basics of photography, once you understand them the UI of a phone just becomes a means to an end. Yes Vivo lacks in terms of video, also don't have 4k120 as Xiaomi, but in terms of photography it is really close, maybe even better in some cases, even if it have older 1inch sensor. I had both but returned it because I want to try new Xperia which is still on the way, but I assume that I will end with 14Ultra or x100 Pro, and now in my country it is for even same price both are under 1050€ or you can get 14 Ultra bunde with photography kit and wireless charger for 1199€ which is really good price compared to MSRP...

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was absolutely stunning indeed ! If I could I'd move to this part of the UK in a heartbeat !!! In terms of grading hers my process, I normally do a base correction (highlights/shadows/saturation...) the some macro-localised adjustments via masking, and then I start on the grade, it all depends on the initial vision I have for a certain shot. I have made a pack of presets/starting points of my most used grades for my street photography (link in description) but yeah it's a case by case sort of thing sometimes I push it quite far, sometimes not it all depends on the look I want to go for. Then to finish it off I normally go back with some masking for sharpening/clarity and last step is normally a denoise if needed. I did make a video a few months ago showing my process of editing my photos if you want to check it out. Hope that answers your question 👍

    Very interesting video. I love how you take pictures and make them look magical. One thing I'm curious about is, when you took pictures of the waterfall using pro mode, you needed an ND filter. Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍 I always try to stay away from "trickeries". Yes the phone has various modes to mimic certain types of photos, just like the iPhone also has. But you can only do so in jpg since it will spit out a very processed shot. To give you a comparison it's like making a home made lasagne and buying a microwavable ready meal lasagne.... It technically has the same name but it won't look or taste the same at all... 🤣 There's no cutting corners for photography, if you want the real deal and awesome results you gotta stick by the rules 😉

    Also if you can get your hands on a Motorola edge 30 ultra. I used to use the raw from that one and it was more organic. The dng files were original 25mb. Here it seems Xiaomi is somewhat pre processing the raw(like gcam raw) so file sizes are lesser than 15mb usually

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on the use case, ultra raw stacks raws to effectively Denoise the photos. At night time I definitely wouldn't use ultra raw as it will add shutter lag which will be the difference between a crisp shot and a blurry one. In bright daylight ultra raw can give you cleaner shots but do bare in mind you wouldn't be able to run lightroom Denoise afterwards (at least not effectively) as it is already processed.

    Couple of things:
    1) It would be so useful if you could hint somewhere in the corner which device you are shooting with (Xiaomi? GoPro? Any other device?)
    2) In the beginning the exposure jumps up and down, weird))
    3) Missing the shutter button?
    4) Missing the Xperia Camera UI?

      I did think about it but thought it was obvious which was which... All the good quality video is from the Xiaomi and the rest is the crappy action cam 😅 I did say towards the end of the video that when it comes to video all b-roll and head talking shots where taken on the Xiaomi using mcpro24fps 10bit LOG
      In regards to jumping exposure, when filming on location and I'm doing vlog style the camera has to be in auto to compensate for lighting changes. Any vlogger will have their camera set to auto for those type of shots. All b-roll however was set and locked in manual.
      Shutter button, I mean yes and no, I do have the Xiaomi camera grip but havent used it much in this video. I have also recorded another video (will be out in the next couple of weeks) doing some street photography and I used the grip pretty much entirely.
      Xperia camera UI (the real one, not the new abomination) was great, but I'm slowly getting used to the Xiaomi UI which is "OK". Having said that yesterday I got to test out the Xperia 1 VI for half a day (also a video in the work) and god that UI is atrocious ! As much as I loved the Xperia 1 V the VI is trash !!!

      Can't say it has, only times it gets warm to the touch is when I sometimes use the 90W boost charge if I'm really in a hurry or got an important shoot and can't wait to charge it at normal speeds. I've said it before though I do not play games on the phone so that may be the issue ? The only time my phone got really hot was when I tried Motioncam pro, but that was my fault as I was trying to shoot RAW video at 60fps whilst encoding it on the fly to H265 ! That would put even a very powerful computer to its knees, let alone a phone lol. For your problem I would suggest doing a factory reset and not syncing any of your data on the first install. I know android can be glitchy when importing all previous data and files from previous install and have corrupted files which will make your phone overheat, had that issue with the Sony Xperia 1 V and when I factory reset it I set the phone as "new phone" and then imported all my previous photos ( not apps) afterwards. Hope it helps

    I used to have Xiaomi 12s Ultra and compared it with Google Pixel 7 Pro, Xperia 1 V. One thing I didn't like about Xiaomi photos is colour chemistry and significant colour shift with different lenses. I noticed that main camera delivered magenta tinted or sometimes just too cold tones. Other times - too warm tones. Bright light conditions shots did come up with weird colours sometimes too (perhaps this is normal for many phones).

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it is sometimes an issue with older or cheaper phones, however with the 14 ultra very happy with the results as you can probably tell from the photos in this video. The key of course is to do as much of the work as possible when taking the photo, making sure the light is right (composition) the right iso is selected for the right shutter speed and correct aperture for the look wanted. Leaving a phone like this decide what the shot should look like by leaving it on auto regular mode would be a waste, just like driving a Ferrari on a bumpy road at 5mph 😅

      @@UpsideLens Yes, I agree with that. But sometimes when you are with family and kids you just can't do all these manual adjustments and settings. Joke aside the first thing I'll say is in 2 years Xiaomi have nailed colour science compared to older models which did have weird behaviours indeed. Now when you say family photos you don't have to rely on the crappy auto regular mode , you can still use the pro mode but with all settings set to auto. Unlike the ultra processed regular auto mode you should get a much more pleasing image just like you would using a regular camera in P mode if that makes sense 👍

      @@UpsideLensWell, I did exactly that with Xperias 1 III - IV - V but I didn't see any improvement compared to Sony's Auto Mode. Maybe because Sony doesn't do much photo processing in Auto mode because they don't know how. I gues Xiaomi is different in this regard. Xiaomi 12s Ultra was the only Xiaomi phone I had in the past. Regarding Xperia, if everything is right, all stars in the sky arranged in lucky order and you have a lucky moment, it can deliver absolutely stunning, unlike any other smartphones, photos. BUT, these moments are rare. That's why I'm using Oppo Find X7 Ultra right now and looking at Xiaomi 14 Ultra / Vivo X100 Ultra. Cheers

      @UpsideLens  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From my experience with the Xperia 1 V (disregard the VI it's just not a good phone for photography anymore) shooting in manual Vs auto had HUGE differences ! First one being the file sizes ! When in auto basic mode the jpg compression is horrendous, hence why going via pro mode was the only way to avoid that. Secondly in terms of processing the basic mode will add a very strong sharpening effect, noise reduction, de-vignetting, colour balancing as well as saturation boost... I could not live with the results spat out of the basic mode on an Xperia phone. Pro manual in raw was a different beast all together ! Now the 14 ultra trumps all of that and gives stellar results especially when using the telephoto sensors compared to the Xperia phones.

      Nope didn't have the issue whatsoever, I did read about it but again it's like any electronic device you buy, some small percentage will have defects and the people who end up with defective units end up being the very vocal minority that scare everybody else 😂 same with everything brand out there.

      I tried the X100 & X100 ultra. 1. I couldn't live with the fake bokeh as it doesn't get the bokeh fading right in a complex photo especially when there are many things around the main subject. 2. The natural shadows are gone brighten up corner to corner as thought photo taken in studio with controlled lightings all around. This is what most phone users are looking for but not to my taste as dark shadows play a major part in expressing the scene.

    Can you confirm the reported half a second shutter delay? Something similar is happening on Samsung phones where the image is taken half a second after pressing the shutter button. Pixel and iphone for example are instant

    • @spaceshipearth356
      @spaceshipearth356 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no half a second delay. Maybe slow shutter speed can distort your perception, but I am able to take many pictures in 3 seconds. I have just taken 18 photos just to test it. Pro mode, manual tapping, no burst mode. When I am outdoor and shooting bugs (pun intended), I always take many pictures to be able to select couple usable ones (in windy conditions).

    • @UpsideLens
      @UpsideLens  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Reports of half a second shutter delay ??? This phone would have ended up in the waterfall if that was the case 😂 what can be sometimes perceived as "delay" is depending on settings used. If shooting in low light and left on full auto the ISP may compensate by slowing down the shutter speed which is what the delay you might be on about, but half a second though ? No way, not unless it was set as 0.5s shutter speed for long exposure ! When you say they're instant, it's not totally correct, if taking a photo in the dark somehow the camera has to compensate for the lack of light by increasing ISO and if that's not enough it will also slow the shutter speed sometimes as slow as a few seconds, so not quite instant.

      Hey thanks for the kind words 😊 and thanks for the info, I'll be going to bed that little bit more intelligent tonight 😅 Xiaomi to me has the edge against the Vivo (purely based off a lot of raws I downloaded and studied before buying the 14 ultra) the Huawei apart from not being a global release and not having Google services (which to me is a straight write off anyway) relies purely on sensor crops for its telephoto and I'm not a big fan at all of that technique. You just can't beat physics and a sensor crop zoom just doesn't replace a real dedicated focal length in terms of optics, bokeh, and compression.
      Now for shutter delay, i have noticed it happening only in auto mode when turning on all computational cr*p HDR and filters. In pro manual mode its all shutter depending obviously.
