Influencers: omg I just want to look good
Huberman: lol maybe stop being a mouth breather then.
It's good advice. Mouth breathing prevents the jaw from developing properly. Weeks into nose breathing using Patrick McKeown's method and my jaw became more defined, naso-labial folds diminished and cheek hollows started to fill. Mouth breathing when sleeping also speeds up tooth decay and yellows teeth as well as being the cause of "cotton mouth" in the mornings.
Legit man. I was mouthbreathing fir my entire 28 years. 6 months of consciously catch myself doing it and fixing it and I do see some improvement
hahahaha W comment
😂
This is total bullshit. I breathe a lot through my mouth and I have a big jaw.
Dr Huberman is so down to earth, so intelligent and knowledgeable, and so refreshing. ❤️
… thank his former skateboarding experience for that!
Did he pay you?
And so full of bullshit
Buccal fat removal is the worst trend at the moment
Indeed
Starlight from the Boys, Zoe Kravits, etc. These actresses went for these procedures and whats apparent is that is may look good for a few years but as you age that gaunt look is worsened and you end up looking unhealthy and "off". Also trends change so fuller faces may come back to being desirable. Sad
yes, looks so artificial
not true buccal fat only sags over time @@standardreplicantKD6-3.7
Yep! It only looks good while they’re young, but when they get older, they’re going to regret it - because sunken cheeks are going to make them look old and sick. 😬
Agreed. I've been on a big journey switching from mouth breathing and opening blockages and letting go of facial tension
I was once a mouth breather but Mewing changed my entire life!
How old are you?
As a massage therapist and caregiving I've noticed that it's all muscle memory and can be fixed with blood circulation
exercises?
Muscle memory refers to movements, stop using it for every other thing relating to muscles. What you are describing is NOT muscle memory. And no, circulation won't give you back muscles even if you actually had them before. You need to work those muscles to regain them/their size
That’s not how muscle memory works lmao.
Blood circulation is all posture. Massage is just temporary. Lifting weights changed my face to be handsome. Like the actual face. The muscles are all interconnected
I like Andrew Huberman’s face 😍😇
Hes so sexy
Instructions unclear. I never breath through my mouth and I'm still ugly
I’m a nose breather and still have hollows under eyes. I don’t believe switching from mouth to nose breathing will change much in face structure but there are health benefits to it.
Probably if you use mouth to breathe, it’s even worse 🤔
I canny do it, my nose is always blocked, I'm allergic to dust etc and I'm asthmatic. I naturally tear off the tape in my sleep, my husband hates it, says l look like a sleeping hostage 🤣🤣🤣
@@irishcountrygirl78 Have you seen those nose filters? My daughter has hay fever and I'm thinking of getting some for her. They might help you. I have hot flashes so usually the tape peels away in the middle of a night sweat! And yeah I see why your hubby would say that. They do look weird. The tape is really helping my son with his snoring at night though. He wakes the house when he forgets it. I bought him a nasal dilator as well as his nose was always blocked and he found that helped him a lot too.

If you are going to do jaw exercises, be careful of some of the tools that are online. You can actually damage the hinge of your jaw if you aren't careful.

And an ENT doctor. People with deviated septums can't breathe on their mouths.

Bro dont leave hanging, like does putting ice on face work ?
@@selenophile5256don’t directly put ice on your face, rather use really cold water. Preferably wash your face with lukewarm water first to clean up dirt and excess oil then rinse afterwards with cold water, you’ll notice reduce puffiness and smoother skin.
Do tell???
For the past few months I’ve been massaging my face after each wash. Using my knuckles to dig deep into the muscles and using my fingers to gently tap the surface. I’ve also included verbal affirmations as I’m doing this in the mirror. 😊 A few weeks ago, my parents best friends looked at me and say, “wow sweetie, you look so young (I’m 37) and your face looks longer-more oval than round!” She said I had a round face with big round cheeks but now it just looks like I had a face lift which she even dared to ask if I had a face lift or Botox. lol I live in LA and those procedures are very normal but I’m 100% natural and I prefer holistic beauty. Though, I just might try Botox when I’m much older. Who knows? hehe
What parts of the face? And for how long? Can you link a video if you followed one?
@@socrates2788 Just search gua sha facial massage and watch those as your starting point. Technically I just use my fingers and my knuckles. I massage my jaw a lot since stress is held there and I tap around my eyes and cheekbones. I massage my neck and clavicle. I do it every morning and night after I wash my face, and sometimes for fun while watching tv lol
Some people go to good skilled doctors and get such good work done your can’t even tell and they look gorgeous.

Yep. I'm actually chewing my hard gum for facial exercises right now. My phone camera must have picked up on that and showed me this video.
I've been doing it for two weeks and my fifty year old female jowls are lifting already.
I chew large hard gums often throughout the day.
Hard gums? Is that something you buy somewhere?

There is a rubber device you can by that you put between your jaws and bite on it. It’s that simple. I saw it advertised but didn’t buy it , thought it was astronomical for a rubber ball.

Face Yoga is effective facial exercise (includes jaw exercises)
I would like to see the studies that prove facial exercises or jaw exercises improve cheekbone fullness. As someone with tmj disorder I am not a candidate for jaw exercises, chewing is painful enough as it is. Also, jaw exercises can cause tmj issues. Many dermatologists say that facial yoga is not proven to make much of a difference in facial structure and can cause further deepening of wrinkles. I am not saying he is wrong, and obviously he is an intelligent man but I think this is a topic that he is not best suited to speak on. I can't say that cheekbone implants would be a great solution either, but jaw exercises may not be a great idea to improve your appearance because it can cause tmj disorder. Speaking from personal experience (anecdotal) tmj disorder has caused more facial dissymmetry, and more importantly it has caused a lot of pain.
Agreed
Tmd gang
Jaw exercises can be dicey for some like with your condition but dermatologists are notoriously unreliable doctors. Most are just scripted puppets for expensive treatments and make terrible suggestions all the time. One really doesn’t need a study to see anecdotal evidence to support the claims of facial exercises and/or facial yoga. When I tried it, within the first few days I noticed a difference and as long as you’re mindful during the process, I’m sure you can alter or stop anything that’s changing your appearance for the worse as it’s a slow moving process. I also didn’t get wrinkles, in fact with the exercises I was doing, they were targeting some fine lines and wrinkles.
Bodybuilders can change their body /muscle tone. The face can be changed too just like the body can and it can exercised as one of the largest muscle in the body is there (the tongue). Acupuncture or acupressure, gua sha, good body and mouth posture, proper swallowing (we swallow saliva all day so imagine what adapting proper technique would do) and a hard food diet and nasal breathing would change the face.
Dermatologists are notoriously unreliable. They say diet doesn’t affect skin acne when it’s proven that it absolutely doesz
Please do a video on the face exercises

Some people have chronic nasal congestion and have no choice but to breathe through their mouth.
No you don’t
@@SweatySockGaming please explain to me how I don't
@@alias_ start breathing with your nose. It will force your nostrils to open. Unless your sinus is congested to the point where you need surgery.
@@SweatySockGaming oh, wow, i never thought to just try breathing with my nose. (Sarcasm) On a more serious note, I have been to doctors multiverse times and they just prescribe nasal spray that should only be used for a few weeks. I do breathe through my nose sometimes but it quickly gets congested to the point where I will pass out if I breathe exclusively through my nose. I use salt water, and would have to use it several times a day to fully be able to breathe through my nose. It's not always just as easy to force it until I breathe through my nose. I would love to have surgery to make the space in my nose larger but that would be expensive where I live.

The fact that it is considered normal to feel the need to go through dangerous, costly and intensive SURGERY for cosmetic reasons says something very alarming about this society
If you chew hard foods and breathe through your nose your maxilla and lower jaw will become wider and eill grow more forward which will give you a more horizontal face than vertical

What breathing exercise gets rid of double chin? Asking for a friend

How do you stop breathing with your mouth open when you sleep? I need to stop but I don’t even know that I’m doing it ( I have photo evidence that I do though ) so I don’t even know how to begin controlling it :(
Face exercises works temporarily and modestly, it can cause inflammation and uneven swelling too.
lol, what
Agree. Plastic surgery should only be considered after conservative options are exhausted. For example buccal fat removals when the patient realistically could just cut some weight.
Is your health on point before you add in cosmetics?
You should optimise what you've got before you modify it. It's like trying to decorate a room while the trash is still piling up on the floor.

It would be amazing if humanity were all blind. It looks didn't matter, and all that matters was people's character and what they say and do
Being blind doesn't change the personality of a person. So a superficial person would still be superficial. A blind gold digging woman would still be a gold digger. Again, being blind doesn't improve character.
@N+3 I would guess it would still lower chances of beautiful people getting away with shit because no one would see it

That's what ugly people think.

Everyone don't have mouth breathing, but aging is for everyone. 😂😂😂😂
I can say this is true. When I was younger I wasn’t able to touch my upper front teeth the lower ones, giving me that buck tooth look where if I don’t actively close my mouth, my teeth would be showing. Let’s just say I actively changed my face structure and now no buck tooth.
Grated, my jaw was killing me all through the process
That’s a handsome man right there 😮
Try face yoga. Highly recommend instead of fillers/botox etc..
An atom can change your structure with inside you.
I like that people who are covering what they look like naturally are now going so far that it's once again clearly visible and they stand out and look horrendous. 😱
I thought that if you were an adult, the mouth breathing effects on the jaw were irreversible?
Nope. I'm 52 and nose breathing has helped define my jaw. I've only been doing it a few months.
while learning how to breathe properly (if you were previously a mouth breather) can have a big effect on your face, it would still not reach the levels of what plastic surgery can do. let's not kid ourselves here. I've always breathed properly and I still have downturned eyes, it's genetic.
I wouldn't be so quick to call it genetic. You never know, you could've had some run-in with a pollutant that causes sleep distress, causing your eye drooping as an environmental factor. Question at that point is, is it too late to do anything about it?
@@heightdevil it is genetic because I have my father's eye shape. and they are not "droopy", they are downturned. people have different features, man. some people have upturned eye corners, others have downturned. it's a minor feature. i'm just saying not everything has a natural fix.

Does nose breathing is the same with breathing like when you're snoring? Cause i can do two kind of breathing through my nose only, but i don't know which one is the correct one.
If you aren't mewing, what are you even doing?
question man an orthodontist once said to me that after puberty nose breathing doesn't affect face shape because every bone has taken its place and after puberty jaw and face bone doesn't develop anymore is it true?
No
What do you say when Drs are claiming jaw exercises can cause night teeth grinding and horrible tmj which can cause head pain?
Making faces all my life, I look younger than my mom at this age, who looked at least 10 years younger than she was. I’m sure my lifelong practice of trying to wiggle my ears (like our Uncle Bud) has some to do with it. Hadn’t done it for years, but did the other day, and was astonished at the difference it made! BTW, I can fairly make them flap.
What exercise
FACTS!!!
How?
Does NOT work in two months, maybe 12 years, but not two months
Yeah this has gotta be the stupidest thing I've heard from Huberman, part of me thinks he was paid for this line but idk who could profit from it.
I don’t know tbh. I’ve been working on my tongue posture for the last 3-4 months. I’ve not noticed any changes to my jaw but now that he mentions this, I used to have really prominent dark circles but they’re just not there anymore. Could be coincidental but my sleep and everything else is the exact same.
He knows what he's talking about
He's 94
I started doing face exercises they work too well on me now my face is so tight it takes getting used to the way it feels. My nose was starting to droop along with my neck, chin and now my nose is lifted and so Is the rest of my face and neck.
What type of face exercises? Interested.
hi can you share how to do the exercises? thank you !
Can someone explains what this guys means how can you naturally change face structure ?
That's why we need He-man, skeletor is taking over! 😆
I was just thinking of someone today. I wondered 8f this person was high level witness protection, or government. It was decades ago, but it was like this person had a plate on, underneath, their face. The face was totally distorted. It was on the whole face above the jaw line.
Easiest way to change face structure is to line up your front teeth as a habit and that makes you look smarter and have a more prominent jaw
In two-three months? That sounds optimistic. What is he basing this on?
Only few in this gen think about putting in the work. Want to lose weight, Lipo., bbl, etc. Want to slow your aging; they should quit smoking, drink less, workout, get some sleep. Instead, they’ll get Botox and plastic surgeries.
You telling them a simple muscle and breathing exercise can change their facial structure in 3 months, that’s 3 months too long.
Even if I'm 38 it would change?
I'm not a mouth breather so what else can I do?

correct, mewing/not mouth breaathing cant change anyting in face other thaan teeth gaps, basically amakes a tiny bit of room for teeth if your ana adult in 3-4 years time, but it cant reverse or add bone in the face lol.
@@batista666bomb No-one's saying it will "add bone in the face". But it absolutely does define the jaw when done properly.
