      It's good advice. Mouth breathing prevents the jaw from developing properly. Weeks into nose breathing using Patrick McKeown's method and my jaw became more defined, naso-labial folds diminished and cheek hollows started to fill. Mouth breathing when sleeping also speeds up tooth decay and yellows teeth as well as being the cause of "cotton mouth" in the mornings.

    Face Yoga is effective facial exercise (includes jaw exercises)

  • @tiamarie636
    @tiamarie636 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I would like to see the studies that prove facial exercises or jaw exercises improve cheekbone fullness. As someone with tmj disorder I am not a candidate for jaw exercises, chewing is painful enough as it is. Also, jaw exercises can cause tmj issues. Many dermatologists say that facial yoga is not proven to make much of a difference in facial structure and can cause further deepening of wrinkles. I am not saying he is wrong, and obviously he is an intelligent man but I think this is a topic that he is not best suited to speak on. I can't say that cheekbone implants would be a great solution either, but jaw exercises may not be a great idea to improve your appearance because it can cause tmj disorder. Speaking from personal experience (anecdotal) tmj disorder has caused more facial dissymmetry, and more importantly it has caused a lot of pain.

      Jaw exercises can be dicey for some like with your condition but dermatologists are notoriously unreliable doctors. Most are just scripted puppets for expensive treatments and make terrible suggestions all the time. One really doesn’t need a study to see anecdotal evidence to support the claims of facial exercises and/or facial yoga. When I tried it, within the first few days I noticed a difference and as long as you’re mindful during the process, I’m sure you can alter or stop anything that’s changing your appearance for the worse as it’s a slow moving process. I also didn’t get wrinkles, in fact with the exercises I was doing, they were targeting some fine lines and wrinkles.

      Bodybuilders can change their body /muscle tone. The face can be changed too just like the body can and it can exercised as one of the largest muscle in the body is there (the tongue). Acupuncture or acupressure, gua sha, good body and mouth posture, proper swallowing (we swallow saliva all day so imagine what adapting proper technique would do) and a hard food diet and nasal breathing would change the face.

    I can say this is true. When I was younger I wasn’t able to touch my upper front teeth the lower ones, giving me that buck tooth look where if I don’t actively close my mouth, my teeth would be showing. Let’s just say I actively changed my face structure and now no buck tooth.
    Grated, my jaw was killing me all through the process

    while learning how to breathe properly (if you were previously a mouth breather) can have a big effect on your face, it would still not reach the levels of what plastic surgery can do. let's not kid ourselves here. I've always breathed properly and I still have downturned eyes, it's genetic.

    • @heightdevil
      @heightdevil ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't be so quick to call it genetic. You never know, you could've had some run-in with a pollutant that causes sleep distress, causing your eye drooping as an environmental factor. Question at that point is, is it too late to do anything about it?

    • @user-bn1lb8ey9v
      @user-bn1lb8ey9v ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heightdevil it is genetic because I have my father's eye shape. and they are not "droopy", they are downturned. people have different features, man. some people have upturned eye corners, others have downturned. it's a minor feature. i'm just saying not everything has a natural fix.

      @@batista666bomb No-one's saying it will "add bone in the face". But it absolutely does define the jaw when done properly. Aside from the aesthetic benefits, there are so many health benefits to nose breathing. And especially at night for anyone who suffers from sleep apnea, snoring, disrupted sleep, reduces tooth decay and whitens teeth.
