    "You had bloods, crips, and Reason users" 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
For real, I love Reason. The first real DAW I ever used was Reason 3. I put down music for a lot of years, but I just grabbed a year of Reason+ on their Black Friday special!
I like going bananas with the synths and arpeggiators and all these new advanced sequencers, and then taking the stems over to my MPC One to resample.

Been a reason user since 2.0, and currently on 11, and i swear by it, im def what u wud call “reason gang” lol, i initially loved it “because” i came from learning in the analog world in 90’s, and it always has just made sense to me, ive tried logic, cubase, n couple others over the years, and imo reason (especially now with audio n vsts) is the best, i will admit like u said in vid, us reason users def went thru a tuff period in middle there, like between version 4 and up till “record” got merged into reason, it was def a frustrating period lol, i wud dump my beats to cool edit or pro tools to record back then, but ever since reason added audio and the absolutely INCREDIBLE SSL mixer, its been my main n pretty much only daw, its by far most stable too, all the way from version 2 to now, ive never had crashs or latency issues or anything like that, it pretty much runs like it IS analog gear, and ill tell you what since vst’s got added few years back, its been great to be able to use ozone, neutron, n nectar on my mixes, but honestly on the synth and creation side of it, i rarely even need vst’s, cause it honestly feels like since they allowed vst’s, they doubled down on stepping the rack extension game up even more, there are really some incredible ones now in the shop, and they have subscrition model where i get like 400$ worth of third party rack extensions for 9$ a month, its pretty awsome, but for me the greatest part of reason IS the ssl mixer, ever since they added it, its a joy to mix on, its literally like having a real console almost, n it auto routs ur mix channel in rack that parallels the channel in mixer with ur inserts n all, its just incredible, and currently its best, cause they not only caught up to more modern daws, but they did while retaining their analog style n funtionality, and literally no other daw does it like them....reason gang 4life✊🏼🤣

I remember first encountering Reason in 2001 and I was blown away by the GUI. I remembering pressing ctrl/tab on the keyboard and seeing that virtual studio rack patch bay with cables everywhere. I fell in love with Reason instantly.
The subtractor synth and the Redrum machine were my favourite tools to use.

I’m still using Reason 6 and Recycle. I really can’t get enough of those two programs they’re so good. And to be honest, I like the fact that you can’t load third party vst’s, allowing you to be more creative with what you have.
I’m also a Live user. Been using Live since version 1. Live is totally awesome too, they both have their own use and appeal but when it comes to the sound of the effects, those in Reason sound way better imho. At least this old version I use. Live is catching up with their drum buss & roar plugins but Reason has been delivering forever. I read somewhere that the guy in charge of the overall sound in Reason is the guy who came up with the Nord Lead keyboards, and we all know how sweet those sounded!

I didn’t grow up with hardware and I think I found Reason about the same time that I found Ableton. For me, even though Ableton is powerful and has features that Reason don’t have I still prefer Reason (and I just love the rack and it’s cables, it thought me how to wire up a studio and now I have more HW-gear and rack units that I could dream of back then).
I just find it inspiring and that is something that I don’t feel with Ableton, kind of feels like Ableton is a tool and Reason an instrument.
I then tried Rebirth and I still keep an old computer for Rebirth, ReCycle and Aksys but Reason is the only DAW that I really like with Renoise on second place.
It is easy to compare features but things has to feel right and spark creativity and that’s more important than the feature set.

Great video Native Shades. Reason was my beat making DAW of choice between 2004 and 2015 before I moved on to Maschine. I made quite a few albums with it that I still get paid for to this day. I still have the old PC that I used Reason on so I can access my old files but ironically I now use the MPC which I didn't learn before back in the days because I was fast on Reason rewired with Cakewalk Sonar. Reason had stock sounds that was more than usable where as the MPC didn't have sounds, you had to sample your sounds in. I've now grown to appreciate taking time to sample and create my sounds and use hardware. I'll always look back fondly on those Reason/Sonar days but not going back

@@DyReckProductions Remember they had ReCycle first which could time stretch samples, then ReBirth which was a software drum machine and then there was Reason a full blown software sequencer with built in instruments and racks to work with and then export your audio. They also were compatible with the Rewire function so it could be wired into another DAW for vocals and other audio to be added to the final mix. Logic and Cubase were really fighting for the number two spot for DAW here on this side of the Atlantic. On your side I hear that Sonar was popular but again Logic and Cubase were the two giants. Ableton, Fruity Loops (FL Studio) and Reason were the new kids on the block back then.

programs like Reason and Bitwig excel in sound design. Song editing is great on Reason. Now I use Bitwig and I am in love with it, but I could get shit done in Reason. If you just want to track a basic track without doing any real sound design then there are DAWS that are perfectly fine for that. I know for my uses Bitwig is really useful and I could do the same things in Reason. Some of the players are useful. Yeah I know Ableton is cool too. I also use the MPC software. Peaking over someones shoulder seeing the reason layout for the first time really bugged people out. I had a cracked version of Reason 2 for years but only dug it up after a health issue. Creating is such a good escape and Reason is a great versatile platform to learn a little about it all. Or you could just keep things real simple and stick to a routine. These days too, bounce a sample to rexfile and stepsequence some drums takes 30 seconds.
These days, the way you can design presets using combinators AND use plugins makes it great for creating formulas that keeps the workflow going.
Right now i mostly just use Grain and the sequencer to do everything. Kinda like an asr10 with autodetect pitch. Even works for tuning kicks. I want to get the new mimic sampler but they're kinda weak with their consumer capitalistic approach.

@@DyReckProductions Cool. Also please do a part 2 to this video. Talk about Rewire technology, the transition from Reason to Record, and then back to Reason. Changed their name from Propellerhead to Reason Studios. Then how they dropped Rewire to offer Reason as a VST. And…. Finally scalability for high res graphics (that still has issues with scrolling) but long overdue. You captured the essence of its history but it’s far more an interesting topic. You get into this, Logic Pro, and the DAW wars and your comments and shares will be off the charts…. especially with the way you deliver.

Man, this was a dope and funny insight to Reason.
I'used Reason since it dropped, from version 1 to 5 (Try before you buy copies...*Cough cough*) then finally bought Reason 11 after haven't making beats for a few years. I know it has limitations compared to other DAWs, but I stick with it cos I actually get a buzz when I use it. I look forward to using it like waiting for a delicious Thai meal. Other Daws I tried like Fruityloops (FL Studio),Cubase and Logic I just used cos that was what I was using, but with Reason I actually have fun messing about with sounds.
I think the new owners are happy with it being a secondary product and are more focused as it being a plugin to other DAWs.
Great work bro. Keep it up.

Its slacked a bit regarding technology and features the last few years, but I feel so comfortable with it, that I can't see abandoning it. Reason was the perfect daw for the time. When it was closed to 3rd party plugins, it was so stable. You could just create and never worry about crashes. It was as immediate as hardware. Nothing quite like it. Of course times have changed. Reason never sounded the best to me. When a base MacBook Air can run a daw and all the plugins you want without breaking a sweat, it becomes hard to justify paying increasingly more to continue using a dated piece of software (that still lacks AU, VST3 and Apple silicon support). As a result, Reason Studios, like Netflix, seems to think punishing their loyal customers is the best way to increase revenue. Just hasn’t been the same, pro-musician company since that private equity firm got involved. And what company ever is? Makes me sad.

I really loved Reason back in the days until Ableton Live 5 came out and since then I never looked back. Easier (auto warp) and better sound stretching, clip-based arranging, VST support, audio recording, better arrangement and piano roll control, no hassle with instrument wiring, better UI, etc. Compared to Reason back then Ableton Live 5 was a revelation. Reason at that point was falling behind and since then it has never really recovered. To a point that nowadays, people rather prefer Reason to be used as a VST instrument in their own DAW because its DAW functionality has never caught up.

Early 2010s moving to DAWs Reason was solid as a rack inside your favorite DAW with ReWire. I even used to use Reason with my MPC 2500. The thing with Reason at the time, even tho you keep mentioning a sampler, you couldnt sample audio into reason. You had to find a sample and make a loop in another audio editing software like cool edit or sound forge. Then take that to ReCycle to slice it up. Then you saved REX files you could load into Dr.Rex. But whatever you sliced was permanent so if you wanted to edit a slice you had to close everything and open it back up in recycle. Then they changed drRex to octoREX and I hated that shit. But for that time period those sounds they had on NNXT, Thor, maelstrom etc were great. Then they added the ability to use multiple racks inside a single mixer channel to create new sounds, and they started selling sounds like reason keys, abbey road keys, drum packs, it was dope.
Reason was not nice to beginners at all. I think Fruity Loops killed it’s popularity because FL was like the “beat making for dummies” for new beatmakers. You dl a cracked version of FL and start clicking buttons on the step sequencer and started pumping out shitty beats like Cassidy. But it was so easy to use people were willing to learn it.

Yeah they were very stubborn with the third party support ..mainly because plugins crash your software sometimes... and having their own apps made their software stable....but the demand was far too strong to turn down.
