I don't think anyone else on youtube has a series about old hip hop gear. You get a video about a sampler here, a sequencer there, but no one else I've seen has tackled the entire history of the hardware progress like you have.
Theres one other that covers old producers gear but he just uses a stock beat in the backround and monotonously talks for like a minute about it and every video is almost identical

Hey, you know this channel and this type of videos are really something. In an era where everything is DAW, Midi pack, loops, subscriptions and controllers, getting a throw back to the "good old days" is a must. Getting to know what machines people where using and how the general public was dealing with new gear is necessary to understand where we came from. Please don't stop (i know there's limited amount of gear that you could talk about, but make it last hahahahah)
Two Producers in the Mid Hudson Area who had this version of this MPC was DJ PAUL NICE ( Poughkeepsie NY ) and DJ DISCO SLIM ( Newburgh NY ), they made sample chops and real ill bests on this machine, I seen magic from start to finish on this machine I ended up getting one and a haircut or shaving was out of the question this machine possessed you. A TRUE CLASSIC MACHINE !!!
I think slim still have his i lost 2 of them 60II now I'm rocking with the 2000 i can't fuck with the digital shit not right now anyway strictly oldschool for me shout out nbny and pk
I remember using the Alesis HR machines and the TS10 in the early 90s. Then my life changed in 93 when my uncle, who had distribution through Ichiban invited me and my crew up to Atlanta. The had the Ensoniq ES16 Plus and the first MPC sold to the general public. I barely made it back to FAMU for my 3rd junior semester. Memories......
Had a lot of fun with my 60ii and s950 for years and finally sold em last year to upgrade to Live2, Force and new laptop all from the profits. Akai for life. Just added a Zoom224 in the mix as well.
@@dnareti Nah, the new gear sounds better, 100x faster, reliable, smaller, lighter, portable, built in speaker, getting firmware updated often, under warranty and all parts readily available if repairs are needed.
I love this channel, great videos on some iconic gear. Did you ever use the Roland VS1680 or VS1880? They were famously used by Kanye West and MF Doom. I got my first VS 1680 in 2002, but ditched it for a Mac/ Logic a year later. As this box sat gathering dust, I could never bring myself to sell it. I'm glad i kept it. I went DAWLess in 2011 and brought it out of retirement. I added an VS 1880 to my collection and use it with my MPC 2500, Roland SP-404a and SP-808 to make music in my studio. It's funny that considering how popular the Roland VS series was from the mid 90's and early 00's, there's not even a Wikipedia entry for them?!?! Anyway keep up the good work I love the entertaining way you cover the history of classic boxes.
Thanks fam..I never used them. But I wanted one back then lol..I ended up getting a Korg d16..Dont get rid of the1680. Some of those effects are classic on it for mic recording and stuff..They got effects software cant duplicate..If you run your drums or even you beats through some of those effects your track will sound incredible..Im saying too much on here Lol.
Fam. I had a 1680 and sold it as I wanted the 1880 or 2480cd. Do you remember when the meter bridge came out for it???? My homie MokaOnly still uses that joint to this day!!!! Keep it don't sell it. I agree the sq is amazing.
I had a VS1880 on lone from a friend in the early 2000s and quickly ditched it after getting a Mac G4 with Logic and a Digi001 running Protools LE. Saying that, the fx board was absolutely phenomenal.
I still have the 60 and its gritty and warm sound add a texture to any sample especially drums , it's very inspiring to use this it's so limited that it forces you to put focus on your drums that's why it was very successful in any genre of music the drums and bass are foundation but this machine really solidified the track nicely something about sampling vinyl with this machine it almost kept that sonic stamp it preserved the sound and even made it better with its 16 bit but yea it's very inspiring to work on this because your using your ears instead of your eyes that's why we now have endless possibilities, power, sample time , software but it's all based on vision not hearing
Your right about that.Alot of newer producers cant get with the mpc 60 because theres no auto chop. Little things like that kept some folks away from the machine..Not knowing if they learn to chop by ear it will make them a beast in manipulating samples and just understanding production period.
We love you brother and what you are doing for the culture of hip hop!!!!!!! And for all other music may Yahweh bless you and may the blood of Christ jesus be with you, because you are a very strong wise man!!!!!

The mpc 60/60II hands down of the best sounding machines out with the 3.10 upgrade and filter mod game over the 60II was cheaper because of the plastic case and headphone Jack .
Hey Dyreck, would your MPC ONE stratagies work with Maschine mk3? (fundementally not literally) I just wondered because they share a layout and a lot of features
The gig of sounds that come with the MPC one strategies definitely would work with anything if you need sounds..But if you want a comprehensive method of making beats..that would be the "How to make fire beats fast video".
Yup..Its basically the sound library of the 4000 filled with drum kits, loops, samples, synth sounds, from the mini moog and classic Yamaha keyboards and stuff. The 3000 should be able to use the sounds cause there wave sounds..But im not sure if it can read the programs..I know the 4000 can read 3000 programs.. but im not sure if vice versa..But you still get a ton of sounds loops synth ect.
In 1988, spending 5000$ would be the equivalent of spending $11,562.43 in todays money. Imagine having to spend $11,562.43 to get a mpc today, everyone would be fruityloopers. Thats a decent little car for most people!!!!!!!!!
I can walk in my studio and sit in front of an mpc x and not be productive, but i can sit in front of the 60 and be limited to maybe 2 snares 3 kick drums and hi hats that's it then I can hunt for samples and instantly concentrate on making a finished beat and it 🔥🔥🔥🔥 today's drum machines are turning Into glorified iPads or laptops that's why the sp1200 was a success and to this day the sp1200 is worth a ton of money even that machine had a small screen i believe as technology got better the music began to suffer and in this day and age we are witnessing the downfall of music
