Thank you for sharing this! A majority of my family had too much of a learning curve when switching to Windows 11, so having this to fall back on for the time being has helped them.
I'm very glad to see a ton of windows 7 options (I think that was the peak of their UI design), the fact that everything on windows 11 seems to just be a convoluted method of opening those windows has been a big pain in the butt. I used the discount code to activate my windows, by the way! Had no idea you could get the single use OEM keys for cheap.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! My number one reason I hated Windows 11 was the inability to expand the Taskbar and this install solved it. On windows 10 I could have 100 icons on the Taskbar and you can expand the task bar and see them all at once. Now I can do the same with Windows 11. Thank You.
The thing that I seriously hate about using Explorerpatcher is that sometimes you get hit with a really bad update and your entire screen is black and explorer.exe never shows up. So frustrating to deal with. Gotta uninstall EP or the update and just troubleshooting it was a pain in general. I'm just gonna stick with auto hiding my taskbar. That was basically my problem so far with W11 since I couldn't have small taskbar.
I cover that at the end of the video. I have it on 5 PCs and it's happened once. It's a very quick fix. Just press ctrl shift esc to bring up the task manager. Run new task. Type "explorer" ... that's it! If that doesn't work, do the same thing but type "control" into the run new task field. That opens control panel where you can uninstall ExplorerPatcher, then start explorer... then go download and update ExplorerPatcher.
@@torguy5763You're watching a video for tools that makes the Windows experience much better and you can't even "Ctrl+Shift+ESC and type 'explorer' " ?! Well good luck finding something else lol
Wouldn't it be nice if the ExplorerPatcher had a button for setting all configuration switches to the "Windows 10" style setting? So anyone upgrading from Win 10 to 11 would instantly get a desktop that looks as much as the old one as possible, without having to change dozens of settings manually.
I been using Windows Tweaker forever. I used to use Open Shell, I think I'll use it on my Windows 11 PC's, the Win 11 Start Menu is nearly useless compared to the Win 19 Start Menu. Explorer Patcher is going to be added now! Thanks. EDIT: I meant Win 10 Start Menu, not Win 19!
Excellent app. I remember first buying it when it was start 8. It perfectly returned the 7 style start menu to win 8 and allowed you to boot straight to windows desktop rather than the full screen nonsense that win 8 forced you to boot to in the early releases.
Just found you, very entertaining and interesting/informative and a great sense of humor and pleasing voice to listen to! Subscribed! Greeting from Austria
I've just about had it with Windows, I will be looking hard at Linux. Windows voided a pc I have activation because I upgraded the ram. I get a "PC's hardware has changed message." I can't do anything about it unless I create a user account & sign in. I don't want to. No more with the "I pay you money and you still track/data mine me endlessly" model.
@@mopeyblokeMint is great for beginners, but it's running some older stuff for the sake of ease of use and stability. It's usually not a problem, unless you wanna do stuff like use two monitors with different refresh rates or use g-sync / freesync. If Mint handled all of that well it'd be an unambiguous recommendation, but it looks like it will take until 2025 at the earliest for it to get there. If you're a bit of a power user who's not afraid of the command line and are willing to read instructions and / or talk to people to get help, you might consider Nobara Linux instead. Comes with a lot of patches to make gaming and peripherals work well right off the bat, and is run by effectively *the* guy who's at the forefront of making games run well on Linux.
I actually preferred the Windows Vista file Explorer to Windows 7's. The bottom preview pane and original introduction of Libraries was honestly really good on Vista. Windows 7 backpedaled on libraries a bit, (they're still usable even on 11, but you need to enable and configure it), and 7 moved some stuff around from Vista. While 7's taskbar was better than Vista, Vista's explorer was just fantastic. If only these guys could implement some "Windows 6" features. ;x
I used Windows vista a lot because of the looks and windows xp just for the performance when i really needed... And when i switched to windows 7 it felt so great! but had lack of somethings that vista had BUT you could enable them ... they were hidden (─‿‿─)
I was seriously thinking about using something like this since I just built a new PC using a 14 gen CPU. I would have stayed on win 10 but that damn scheduler forced my hand. Now like you said and it's something I thought about, if there's a win update and it breaks something I really don't want to spend the time fixing things. I'm a set it and forget it kind of ass hat. As I was setting up win 11 I really didn't get lost. Yeah, it's a different way of going about things and typing all the crap out to find what you're looking for is annoying but once I learn it, I think I'll be ok. But after watching these tutorials it is tempting to revert back to the better times lol.
OMG THANK YOU! I like Windows 11 but the context menu and the clock are 2 things I absolutely LOATHED about the system and that fixes it right up, thanks!
I was loosing my mind over the contextual menu thing. What a blunder of a change by Microsoft. It added an extra unnecessary step to so many things and went against the grain of decades of built up muscle memory. I'm so glad I finally found a way to disable it. I haven't been this annoyed with windows since they tried to get rid of the start menu.
Did they bring over pieces of Windows 10, or did they have to recode stuff from scratch, or are some of these features still there and hidden in Windows 11, but locked away?
Be aware, Explorer Patcher nags to update at least once a week, and will have unintended consequences if you put it on a VM... and it tends to also cause windows to crash ... ALOT. Although they may have fixed it since. You have been warned. I have resorted to a few strategic registery mods that do the same thing as EP without the hassle.
This looks pretty cool, I might end up giving it a try. I ran into this scenario a few weeks ago where I had finally gotten used to daily driving Linux, so switching back to Windows was odd. I used to consider the Windows File Explorer to be really good, but now having tried others, I take back that statement. I ended up finding out that KDE Dolphin is available for Windows, so I just installed that and use it instead since that is my new preferred file explorer.

4 months later, here i am. right clicking taskbar, and hitting properties brings up a window that freezes and crashes out. patcher is still working sure. but i can NOT get it to open properties anymore. which is bad. since uninstalling, then reinstalling didnt solve the issue nor did a beta release work. any suggestions? virus software has not removed any files since the last time it did i added it back, and told it not to again lol.
I gave up and switched to Linux and I've been happy ever since. The problem with these "tweaks" is system stability, where a Windows update will render the patch useless and worse, crash Explorer.
True, but the same goes to Linux. When a system update comes & breaks something, you either fix it yourself or wait for someone to fix it on the internet. This is especially the case in rolling release distros. I love them 🐧 🐧 tho.
@@teksyndicate tbf, at that point you are battling a system that you paid for that doesn't want you to customize it. Windows patches will fade out whenever windows forces you to update to the latest thing. I also switched to linux because I refused to go through with windows 11, and I'm doing absolutely everything I did on windows with my computer (and more) but free of charge and with A LOT more customization right out of the box. It's just a better user experience these days.
I just upgraded to Windows 11. For the most part the GUI doesn't bother me. However, one of the few things I really missed from Windows 10 was the ribbon in File Explorer, so I was ecstatic to get that back. ...but, bringing that back made me lose the tab option in File Explorer. In Windows 10, I had downloaded a feature called QTTabBar. I assumed I would need it in Windows 11, but I found that the tab feature was baked in, so I uninstalled it since it wasn't necessary. Activating the Windows 10 Ribbon seems to revert to some version of File Explorer in Windows 10 that doesn't allow the tabs in File Explorer. After installing QTTabBar, I notice no change and no option to open multiple tabs in File Explorer vs having to open multiple folders as individual folders. Is there another setting I can change within this Explorer Patcher to give me the best of both worlds, multiple tabs within File Explorer and the Windows 10 ribbon, or is there something within Windows settings I can change?
I've used explorer patcher for a few years but had to stop using is because when it crashes it deletes all of my application shortcuts from the taskbar. In the words of Worf when Locutus asked, "Why do you resist the Borg? We only wish to raise quality of life." Worf: 'I like my species the way it is."
I like how when you have System settings by itself, as you have it set, the Windows edition still says Windows 10 on the right but Windows 11 Pro on the left lol.
Thank you for this! I haven't upgraded to Windows 11 because of many of the features from 10 that don't exist on 11 anymore, but now I see that I can add them all back with explorer patcher! I'll probably upgrade to 11 now and finally be able to use Arc Browser.
Windows 11 has had the [Show Taskbar Labels ___] for some time now. I'd much rather prefer the one icon to rule them all versus the Vista "show 12 outlook icons in every place where icons can show" method Different strokes for different folks.
This was an easy save to favoruites for when I inevitably have the fuck around with windows 11 in future. Right now I have a new build functioning perfectly on 10 and long may it perform so. Great vid.
I felt the pain u conveyed in ur convo lol. Ure awesome. So thnkful for ppl like u to help others navigate thru the hellish, necessary evil, Orwellian landscape of the Windows Matrix sublevel landscape. We will survive somehow
You never metioned the best missing feature from Windows 10 - the custom Toolbars option when you right-click the taskbar. On Windows 10, I use it for 99% of my work. It is rare that I use the start menu. Unfortunately, the Toolbars feature does not allow shortcuts for UWP apps.
It's funny how you say 'fix' for things that are 'not broken' just because they're different from before. I agree that there should be a settings page somewhere to easily change it back in Windows itself, but anyway... I tried the new things with Windows 11 over a year ago and found they're really not bad. I've been using my PC without any hassle since then, without any modifications. Well, that's not entirely true; I did put the Start menu where it belongs using the settings in Windows for that-no need to use third-party software. If Microsoft never changes anything in Windows, people say Windows is a sh#t OS, and they're moving to Linux or buying a Mac. Then when Microsoft makes a few changes, the same people say Windows is a sh#t OS, and they're moving to Linux or buying a Mac. Go figure. I guess people are hard to please. But nice video, easy to follow and you show what every change you making is doing in Windows.
Tried using this but Bitdefender keeps flagging different processes as malware, reading more comments about how this breaks the setup if Microsoft pushes an update I think I'm just gonna uninstall this and look for an alternative. Shame, all things considered it did seem like a nice tool to have, but I'd rather not brick my system or have to do a full wipe/reinstall of windows like some users here say they had to do.
I'd just whitelist it in bitdefender and not worry about things breaking... worst case, if your computer loads and the screen is blank... just press ctrl+shift+esc and "run new task"... type control and uninstall it... or type "explorer" to try to load it normally.
Love this software, but I don't use it anymore, often when Windows Updates has been installed the software will make Explorer.exe to keep on crashing on you and other weird bugs, and the only way to fix it, from what I have found, is to rename the setup file to ep_uninstall.exe and then you have to wait for an updated version of ExplorerPatcher and reinstall that. Too much hassle when it fails.
please release a review of all popular programs that help change Windows 11 and compare them (Sophia-Script-for-Windows/SophiApp; hellzerg optimizer etc). And not only visually changing the appearance but also programs that effectively disable spying telemetry, as effective as a firewall. And what to do if a very smart Windows Defender is so smart that it deletes files that are saved
I used to be a windows user for decades, but switched to MacOS a year ago. I was that guy customizing his desktop with rainmeter, customizing windows with PowerToys, that guy in insider program while I had no interest into that, just to experiment things quicker. I'm happier on MacOS, I feel really productive and less focused on making things more practical. I don't spend time anymore on customizing my computer, I miss that a lot but I'm really more productive. I don't have access to the majority of the games available on windows, but everything is smooth, snappy and stable. I'm really happy to see what Windows becomes since Windows 11, even though I'm not on the boat anymore. I'm a developer, I wish I could dualboot windows on my mac, Windows never felt that "MacOS-ish" than right now.
The only really bad thing Microsoft did with Windows 11 was the hiding of third party software in the right click menu. Especially for things I love to use like 7-zip. May they reconsider the harm they have done to the user in Win12?

I mean, the entire point of Windows is that it should be user friendly, is it not? And if you have to tinker, might as well tinker with Linux.
That's admirable and all, but 99% of users use computers for the programs/applications, and most of the best ones run better on windows. I'd prefer 100% app compatability with hiccups on the os rather than a 100% crisp os but with hangups and workarounds needed for programs.
@@Resanctify I can understand that, but personally I didnt use Photoshop under Windows anyways and I was surprised to learn that all my favorite games work just by pressing the play button in Steam. Only thing holding me back is my work uses Windows machines, and I like Apple's hardware ecosystem.

Power efficiency, hybrid processors with performance and efficiency cores are made in unison with microsost's updates, I don't think Linux is getting that same level of compatability yet. I've been trying to find a YT WhoKeys link, thank you for that. I currently have Windows 11 Home and want Pro. Should I archive or save my current key, or will the new key overwrite it?
Are you able to get icons for programs (such as dropbox) near in the system tray by the clock to appear besides the network & volume? After installing, they seem to live in the dropdown menu (up arrow by the network icon) only, and can't get it to appear in the taskbar.
Heartful thanks for you. I was really annoyed by the windows 11 design and want to switch to windows 10. But your guide helped me to stay on win 11 with help of these settings.
Its weirdness with the command centre; Leftclick opens the flyout menu Rightclick brings up another menu for each individual taskbar icon. Then you left click again to get an individual flyout. So many thing's wrong with that design choice forced on desktop. Could just detect a mouse and have it default to the individual flyout menus. Microsoft: "that's a hard no".
I don’t understand Win11… on my laptop I can see what’s inside a folder from the outside, but on my PC I can’t get it to change, so I have to go into every folder to see what’s inside. Very inconsistent.
I also recommend setting user account control “flat bottom” and using Windows Defender Remover to do away with Windows' care taking but power surrendering crap. Thanks for making this video and providing this information.
So weird. I used to watch your videos all the time, this is the first one I've seen in ages... Kinda forgot you existed but I immediately recognized you.
I swear Google is reading my mind. Literally thinking about this channel and Logan like yesterday and a video pops up in my feed out of nowhere today. I haven't been recommended a Tek Syndicate vid in forever.
That is impossible due to the monolithic design of Windows, and Windows becomes increasingly difficult to customize with each major release, to the point that you can practically no longer customize almost anything by default, being the same as macOS in that aspect, long gone are the days of wild theming on WinXP and earlier.
Will I be able to move the taskbar to the left or right of the screen? I have 3 screens and my preference is with the taskbar on the right side of the left screen. The middle one is 3440x1440 so I like to keep it clean and when I watch a movie, I put the taskbar all the way to the left so it's out of sight altogether. I also use 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to make the bar narrow and unobtrusive. Apparently this is compatible with ExplorerPatcher, but I just need to clarify about the positioning. Thanks!
Lots of settings, but what if i want to change the pane and background color of explorer (and all apps)to a color less offending than glaring white or depressing black? How is this not a setting in any windows past seven?
I realize they're a sponsor, but is there ANY chance those WhoKeys Windows OEM keys are legal? I get that people buying those may not face legal action, but Microsoft doesn't provide OEM keys to any companies for under $23...
MS can say they don't like it and that it goes against their terms, but that doesn't mean it isn't legal... beyond that, I don't care what they think. They could put a stop to this if they truly cared... but I've been using grey keys for over a decade and they just werk.
I found out about this a few months ago, *never been happier!!!* My main thing is my main monitor is my creator monitor. I don’t want the task bar on this monitor. I want it on the secondary, but vertical along the left side, and wide enough to show the full date. Like I have since Windows 2000 / XP / 7 / and 10.
I installed ExplorerPatcher as recommended and now there's a weird glitch. Command prompt opens itself on startup and won't go away. When I close it manually, another one opens up. This seems wrong. What is going on? How can I stop it?
My biggest issue right now is that autohide taskbar doesn't work consistently. Restarting explorer fixes issue. When you scroll to bottom of the screen with auto-hide enabled, the taskbar won't pop up when certain programs are maximized (such as firefox)... I tried upgrading to 11 to make it go away, and that didn't work :(.
Hmm... I have auto-hide on my other pc because it has an oled and it has always worked perfectly. I wonder if it's something else that is causing issues with this?
I was thinking that the Airplane mode is nice cuz if you're connecting vis LAN anyway, might as well reallocate resources that would be used to search for connectivity options even if Wifi is off?
Good video. Nice to see we can get the Windows 10 Ribbon interface in windows 11 Explorer. This worked heretofore with a previous version of Patcher on previous builds of Windows 11, then stopped. Nice to see the Patcher scripters have been able to reinstate this untill MS muck it all up again...
Curious how this would be beneficial on 2016 Server/Core. I'm one of those guys that stuck to 2003/2008/2012/2016 until Win10 because I didn't want Vista, didn't like nor could navigate 7, needed to avoid the consumer bloat of 8/8.1 and am kind of okay with 10 now that it's a bit more stable. I'm not a fan of Win11 and will probably need this if I hop to 2022 since it's probably going to be the only tool that addresses the nasty Explorer memory leaks.
does this fix the idiotic thing in windows explorer when you select a file with 6 letters the selection grey bubble (lets call it that way) is not as large as the file with longest name (e.g. 12 letters aka longer file name)?
"Airplane Mode - come on Im on a Desktop" 😂 exactly my first thought when I saw it on my heavy AIO cooled PC PS: now resizing my windows feels perfect. Having them curved I was like where am I suppose to aim to resize it just felt so wrong.
One of the good recommended videos I've got. Windows has been killing me and now I find it to be much more usable. I personally prefer Linux, but not a single goddamn software that I use professionally is available or properly supported on Linux lol. Anyways thanks man!
Is there any software that can make alt tab cycle through the same application only? Like If I have 3 VLCs open and I hit alt + tab or any other combination it will only cycle through those three and not through all the other windows I have opened. I'm trying to find something like this but I cant!
This is a really cool tool, and I'm glad it exists for those who want it. However, almost nothing in this video changed anything about Windows that changed it so fundamentally that it could be seen as "unusable" before. The normal System menu shows all the same information that the old one does for example, it's just preference. This is more about how older users of Windows want to go back to the old days. There's nothing wrong with that, and I guess in a way that's what "usable" means to some people. However, it sort of also implies that W11 or 10 are somehow fundamentally broken in some way that this fixes which isn't really the case here. It's an interesting piece of software nonetheless.
I installed the latest EP as of February 17 and it really messed up my W11pro. I kept getting side-by-side configuration error for many apps that had previously been working properly. Uninstalling EP did not fix it. Turns out that several Microsoft Visual C++ redistibutables had been corrupted. A word to the wise. Too bad, because the features of EP are nice but not if it messes up Windows.
Can you move the taskbar to the side of the screen with patcher? I've never had the taskbar taking up more screenspace, than at the side, in 20 years of PC'ing

I've been dragged kicking and screaming into Windows two-digits, thanks for making the change easier on my retro infused brain.
I use a program called Start 11 which modifies the Start button and Taskbar. Would this program conflict with that?
i use both seen no issues

Excellent app. I remember first buying it when it was start 8. It perfectly returned the 7 style start menu to win 8 and allowed you to boot straight to windows desktop rather than the full screen nonsense that win 8 forced you to boot to in the early releases.

True. Hopefully I'll be trying out Linux Mint this year. A lot of people recommend that one for beginners.
If only these guys could implement some "Windows 6" features. ;x
Vista was so similar to 7... I think people would have loved it if computers had more ram back then.
yeah MS was just jumped the gun to quickly for it lol. Same problem Windows 8 & 8.1.
Vista was great after the second service pack was installed, followed by relaxing some of the settings.
Never fail to learn something useful whenever you upload Logan. Cheers
The fact that this fixes the taskbar sound button alone from CONSTANTLY breaking or freezing up on me is a godsend! Thank you!

I gave up and switched to Linux and I've been happy ever since. The problem with these "tweaks" is system stability, where a Windows update will render the patch useless and worse, crash Explorer.
so... that takes 2 minutes to fix.
Now we need the same for task manager and device manager.
Another fellow QTTabBar user! I've used that since Windows Vista. Tabbed explorer browsing for over 10 years.
I like the cut of you jib. Well done.
I've used explorer patcher for a few years but had to stop using is because when it crashes it deletes all of my application shortcuts from the taskbar. Thank you for sharing, I have really been wanting something like this!
OMG dude, thank you so much. Ive been trying to get rid of the merging tasks crap since my work laptop got updated to w11.
Windows 11 has had the [Show Taskbar Labels ___] for some time now.

Winaero Tweaker has a TON more options but, there's a couple things in ExplorerPatcher it doesn't have, mainly for Windows 11. It's ok to use both. 👍
Thanks going to install this on my laptop asap. Pretty happy with my custom Win 10 install on my desktop in the meantime.

Are you able to get icons for programs (such as dropbox) near in the system tray by the clock to appear besides the network & volume? After installing, they seem to live in the dropdown menu (up arrow by the network icon) only, and can't get it to appear in the taskbar.

Its weirdness with the command centre;
Leftclick opens the flyout menu
Rightclick brings up another menu for each individual taskbar icon. Then you left click again to get an individual flyout.

This is great! We NEED more customization programs like this. Make Windows more like LINUX!!!
That is impossible due to the monolithic design of Windows, and Windows becomes increasingly difficult to customize with each major release, to the point that you can practically no longer customize almost anything by default, being the same as macOS in that aspect, long gone are the days of wild theming on WinXP and earlier.
Does this eat resources or save them? This old laptop is so slow now.

I realize they're a sponsor, but is there ANY chance those WhoKeys Windows OEM keys are legal? I get that people buying those may not face legal action, but Microsoft doesn't provide OEM keys to any companies for under $23...
MS can say they don't like it and that it goes against their terms, but that doesn't mean it isn't legal... beyond that, I don't care what they think. They could put a stop to this if they truly cared... but I've been using grey keys for over a decade and they just werk.

Do you have any video on Windows 11 for Workstations? or have you compared to Windows 11 Pro? What are your suggestions? Thanks
It's an interesting piece of software nonetheless.
stop this.
