  • A quick and easy "How-to" on the integration of lights or other devices, into the factory aux switches on your Jeep JL or JT!
    This is the follow-up to our last video where we installed a Baja Designs S8 10" light bar, using the Grimm Offroad steel bumper light bar bracket kit. Here, we continue by running a small wiring harness from the light location on our bumper, to the auxiliary wire position near the factory battery. From there it's just a matter of choosing the right Aux switch, completing a few wire terminations, and ending it with some easy programming through your media console.
    For those of you without the factory Aux switches, MOPAR offers an easy to install kit with everything you need to install them into your JL or JT.

    Given my question about a relay, below, the 4 “hot” wires under the hood for each of the 4 aux switches should really be coming from a factory installed relay (pin 87) that is part of the aux switch wiring circuit - and not directly from the switch itself.

      @@northridgenation for clarification I am using the solenoid with Aux1 as a master power switch to the winch, not to operate the winch, in which case it has to be latching as it has to keep power to the solenoid to provide power to the winch.
      However, if one wanted to use Aux1 and Aux2 as winch in and winch out then you are correct it would have to be set as momentary.

    Is it possible to hook up LED lights illuminating the side steps that will go on with lights as I grab the door handle?

      As far as wiring LEDs to your side steps to activate with your door handle, you would need to run them through the Aux Switches. Wire them to your footwell lights. Then they'll light up when you hit the unlock feature on your key fob.

    This video is explaining how to add lights to your switches if the Jeep came equipped with the switch pod.
    Your Jeep did not come with that from the factory so your computer doesn't know what to do when we introduce the switch pod to your Jeep. It has to go to the Jeep dealership and be "taught" that your Jeep now does have the switch pod.

    • @northridgenation
      @northridgenation  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm showing the RC 20" light bars use a 3 way switch, so there must be two different light functions.
      To test the light bar functions, hold the wires direct to the battery terminals. Black to NEG and then one at a time, hold the white to POS, remove, then hold the blue to POS to see what the functions are.
      Then to hook to your Aux switches, you would want to ground the black wire and then hook the white wire to one aux switch and the blue wire to another aux switch.

    Does the aux switch system already have a relay built into the wiring circuit? I sure hope so. Proper vehicle wiring sees the aux switch triggering a relay which, when energized when the aux switch is turned “on”, provides power to the accessory such as a light bar. If the factory installed aux switch system is not using a relay, it is a very poor idea to power a high amp draw accessory, such as a compressor, directly from an aux switch.
