Aux 3: Dash Cam, Aux 4: CB radio, Aux 1: Light bar. With this video, I have found the harnest ( cables). In my German car, inside there are 6 cables. But I found the right cables. Thanks for this video. It was very helpfull for me. Sorry for my bad English.
I own a 2022 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 392. It has the factory installed AUX switches but not the factory tow package. I cannot locate the pigtails for AUX switches beside the battery? My dealer said that the factory installed AUX switches dont have the wires bundled under the hood? Help!
I thought maybe he forgot to use them when he did the 1st wire, but after the 2nd wire was stripped......it was obviously standard operating procedure to ignore the strippers :P
Great video, very helpful. I just wired two KC HiLites A-pillar lights to the pre-wired Aux panel in my JL, and I'm not sure I could've pulled it off without your video. Two additional comments, though. 1) I found that wiring the switch hotwire on the KC harness to the AUX wire did NOT work. The harness has it's own main hotwire that connects directly to the battery to power the system. Instead I connected the switch LOAD wire to the AUX wire and presto! Fully functional lights. 2) The lights pull only 8.5 amps, but I connected them to the 40 amp wire instead of the 15 amp wire because I will also be installing additional lights to my front bull bar. I want to run those lights to the same Aux switch, which would then in total exceed 15 amps, so the higher amp wire was the way to go. Again, thanks for the great video!
Very helpful video Brother Ryan, you are a GOD sent. This is a very timely do it yourself Pillar lights set up for my JL....A popular Jeep shop wanted to charge me 4 hours of labor to connect.
Great video and still helpful so many years later! Quick question, on a 2024 JLU Isn't there a another aux relay behind the glove box for internal wiring for any in the cab accessories?
Great instructions mate. Little tip I learned along time ago was to use a seam ripper to strip/cut sheathing to expose wires. This way you never run the risk of cutting fingers(which happens) and cutting the sheathing off of your wires you’re trying to expose!!!!🤙🏽🤙🏽
I've noticed that there are more wires for these switches under the dash than there are under the hood. Are there different procedures for wiring something under the dash?
Love that Jeep added these switches. What would make them better is if you could replace the switch buttons with oem style that were labeled "lights", "winch", "compressor", etc. instead of "Aux 1-4". Really surprised the aftermarket hasn't done that yet.
Very cool. I just ordered my first Jeep, a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited and ordered it with this option. I plan on running a Baja Designs OnyX-6 50” LED Light Bar up top, side lights and rear off road lights too, in addition to a front winch and another OnyX-6 LED Light Bar on the front bumper but one that is slightly shorter than the 50” one mounted to the roof. At least 4 things can be wired into those switches. Excellent design and idea from Jeep.
I'm getting ready to install a Front and Rear Dashcam on my 2018 JL So I will use #3 and #4 switches wired under the dashboard so I don't have to go through firewall. I need one battery all the time and one accessory switched. So this is perfect. Thanks for the info !
Found out that there is 6 wires under the passenger side dash pre wired. 4 for aux switches and 2 for accessory and direct battery. Worked out perfectly and didn't even have to use the 4 wires for aux switches.
Excellent video. Nice detailed, you hit all the right points and even discussed how go through the Settings in Jeep's infotainment system to program the setup for the lights. Thanks for this video, super helpful.
Thanks for the video, what if the lighting harness has a relay and fuse on it already? Should those be eliminated when wired up to one of the switches?
Nice. I just hooked up my hood-mounted led bar following your instructions. Works great. I set it up for battery power so we can use it as a camp set-up light without having any other part of the car on.
This is so awesome! I just bought a new Rubicon, but came with halo lights, but I plan to put in LED lights with a DRL Ring, but I need to be able to completely turn off the white LED lights when I go on my astronomy outings so that the white LEDs don't affect others eye in complete darkness, so this is such a great setup.
Thank you for this video. Super helpful. Also just a big thanks for ALL the ones you put here. The extra help you give is has made me a loyal customer of ET
Thanks! I added front and rear leds with the new barricade bumpers and these options work great as I normally use them as accessory lighting as well as trail lights. You also get a heavier rear axle with the towing package.
Awesome video, with great information, but it drove me nuts to see you not use the stripping tool when it was right there and you even called it a stripping tool haha.
How about adding existing OEM switches to existing switch panel for a JK, 2015 Rubicon for accessories.. the ones next to the axle lockers and sway bar disconnect?
Excellent information, liked, and subscribed. Question: What if you're wiring up two matching lights on the right and left pillars? Same wire/switch or use another auxiliary?
You can wire them to the same switch. Only reason you’d need to wire to different switch is if you want them to turn on/off independently from each other. Or if you have too large of a load for one switch
Awesome video as I have a 2019 JL and just purchased an 18" Lumen. The end caps can stay lit up without the led lights on. Where can I run that connection to keep the ends lit up when the ignition is on?
As long as the total amperage draw of all the lights don't exceed the amps of the switch (15 and 40) all your lights can be wired together on one AUX switch. It is best to stay under 80% total draw (12 and 32) per circuit.
What is the connector to use if I need to wire more than one light? Ofc, keeping in the mind the total amp draw is less than the stated for aux switches.
So this may be a dumb question as I am new to all this. for an led with its own harness and relay, can we just bypass that relay (or remove) and go straight to the aux as described? The aux pretty much does that function anyways correct? Thanks
Trying to wire a dash cam with cigarette lighter plug to one of my aux switches. This helped most of the way. Now i have to figure out when i clip the cigarette lighter adapter piece off the dash cam which wire goes where. Hopefully it is red and black making my life easier. I am not a mechanic or tech person.
Any clue how these switches would work with a light that has multiple settings? Example of 3 settings: Amber backlight, Clear running light, Off. Thanks! Love your videos and am a recent new customer!
You'd probably only use one of the switches for the 'main' light-feature, and hook backlight and running light into existing circuits such that they come on when the jeep running lights come on.
Ryan- I have aftermarket AUX switch panel placed in Jeep JLU 2019. I cannot locate AUX switches on the screen and unable to turn on. I tried wiring 2" Rough Country LED Black Series Cube lights but so far, I'm coming up short. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I wonder if an AUX switch could be wired into the AUTO Stop/Start to ALWAYS be turned off when the vehicle is restarted using the Power Source=Ignition and Recall Last State? If Jeep doesn't provide a firmware change a third party will provide a hardwire hack. I've been buying 4X4 vehicles since 1972 and MPG has never been a concern of mine. Do I need a wiring harness if I have the aux switches already? I got a 20” light bar from dv8 and was wondering if it’s safe to just extend the hot and ground wires and just install them like you did in this video. Not trying to blow my shit up lol
Great video exactly what I was looking for!!! Safe to assume both lights get wired to the one power lead you showed .. and both grounds go to the 1 provided by Jeep for both pod lights?
If I only had one of the 40-amp switches at my disposal (other three taken up by other accessories), could I still hook up a simple LED without frying it (or frying the Wrangler)?
my early 2018 JL does *not* have those wires under the hood to attach the lights up to (just checked, as i was hoping to be pleasantly surprised at the ease of supplying power to the lights that i’ve already installed on the plastic front bumper). supposedly, i should find out soon, they are only on the inside of the passenger compartment under the front passenger side kickplate, together with the connector kit supplied as part of the AUX Switch Option.
I think I'm running into this same issue. I have the switches that seem to be working and the box under the passenger panel. But, nothing under the hood. I was hoping to find some other pointers on where those wires might be.
Great video. It took me a little longer as I am a neat freak. installation was easy only pain was getting the wire through the firewall. the installation is complete and dealership flashed the ECU but, no lights WTF. I have dbl checked all connections, still no power to the aux switches. they do not light up . I even took the plug behind the switches off and installed the connectors directly to the pins in the proper order and nothing. not sure if I have a defective switch. any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just installed Aux switches in my JL and I have not hooked anything up to them yet and my switch lights do not go on either. I believe they will though once you have something wired to them.
cujo7240 the lights should light up before anything is connected to them. I ended up connecting the orange wire without the supplied plastic connector to insure contact. This fixed my issue with all switches illuminated.
The fuse / cables won't be rated for that. You'd have to do something more complicated like hang a relay off the connection and run a separate circuit.
Kinda a dumb question because I think I already know the answer BUT..if I’m connection the always on wire from the AUX package, I should obviously disconnect the negative terminal from the battery?
HELP! Can you/is it worth it to hook up a winch (I have a Warn Zeon 10-S) to one of these 4 aux switches? Or should I just stick with hardwiring to battery?
You might already know this, but the winch will draw more amperage than what those wires will supply directly. You will want to use a relay in between the winch and the battery, then you can power the relay using these wires. That's what I did and it works perfectly!
This is one of my favourite features of the JL. Simple, but very effective
I've been waiting for a video explanation on TH-cam from a reputable source - Thanks so much for finally doing all of this!!!

I was having trouble locating the pigtails under the dash. This helped me locate them - THANKS!!

I have some pod lights with an amber function, is there a way to with those through these switches?
"Make sure you have a pair of wire strippers so you can completely ignore them and use your side cutters to strip the wires" 😂
lol I was thinking the same thing.
I thought maybe he forgot to use them when he did the 1st wire, but after the 2nd wire was stripped......it was obviously standard operating procedure to ignore the strippers :P
didnt even need them to begin with
Hilarious! At least he used the crimper portion instead of reaching for the vice grips! LOL! Great video though!
As a Navy Aviation Electrician, I had a hard time watching this.
Great video, very helpful. I just wired two KC HiLites A-pillar lights to the pre-wired Aux panel in my JL, and I'm not sure I could've pulled it off without your video. Two additional comments, though.

Can you hok up two of those small lights to one auxiliary switch so I'm not wasting 2 switches for the pair of a pillar led lights?
Glad I found this channel. Very thorough and professional. Thank you!

fantastic sir. Thank you. You made a seemingly overly complicated system quite simple. I used this method for my compressor and it worked perfectly.
Thanks for watching! -Zach
I've noticed that there are more wires for these switches under the dash than there are under the hood. Are there different procedures for wiring something under the dash?
So the Auxiliary switches have built in relays ?
Love that Jeep added these switches. What would make them better is if you could replace the switch buttons with oem style that were labeled "lights", "winch", "compressor", etc. instead of "Aux 1-4".
Really surprised the aftermarket hasn't done that yet.
I bet someone will make a generic sticker package for such a use
That's a good idea

How did you hide the front camera cable? Hoping to see an answer to Gavin's question as well. Thanks!

You guys have the best videos for this. Awesome work. I aspire to get there one day for my companies.
Thanks for much for watching! -Zach

They could be wired into AUX 3 or 4. And set it to "remeber last state" and set it up to "ignition" power
Great video. Just bought my first Jeep. This still applies to the 2021 JL
Great video. Question is it one switch per light or can a set be used on one aux switch?
Fred, not sure what year you’re running but mine is a ‘21. When I go into my Settings, I don’t see an option to select Aux Switches. Do you see them?
As long as the total amperage draw of all the lights don't exceed the amps of the switch (15 and 40) all your lights can be wired together on one AUX switch. It is best to stay under 80% total draw (12 and 32) per circuit.

What about 2 LED lights? Can I somehow connect them to one aux switch or will they take up two aux switches?
Matthew Sanders you can wire both to the same switch as long as their combined amperage don’t exceed that of the particular wire you choose.
