@@sonsofomanveeb Not sure why you would ever get a check engine light, maybe a ESS not available warring if you didn't pull the correct fuse. Without know what exactly was done its hard to say but you can always return it to stock if your not happy with it. Let me know how it works out.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD yeah, I disconnected the aux battery and pulled the fuse. I ended up disconnecting the main battery as well for 10 minutes, reconnected, and started the jeep and did not get the ESS light 👍🏼
Hi, I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport which began giving me problems with the autostart not working properly. Then I saw lights on the dash reporting issues. The next day (yesterday) it wouldn't start. I watched your video on bypassing the aux battery, so, I went out and bought one like yours. I'm installing it now, but I had to take a break due to rain. I just want to tell you that I appreciate so much that you explained how to remove the battery and cables as well as bypassing the aux. I'm not a mechanic, I'm 66 years old and this is the first time doing something like this. I was nervous as all heck. So, again I am grateful for the guidance. Joe
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD No problem, I finished the install and it came out just like you said! I also verified that the autostart/stop also worked, and my autostart on the key fob. Batten a thousand! Thanks again!... Oh, and it really wasn't that heavy, I curled it up and in Real easy! Lol..
I had the issue and brought to dealer. They wanted $1100 CAD to replace. Said it was not warranty. Told them to just disconnect the 2nd battery and they said it does much more than start/stop. Funny they could not tell me what else it ran. Just “other things”. I told them to just get my keys ready and picked it up. Did the steps as you outlined perfectly. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I don’t like the stop/start. I didn’t even know it was a separate battery until today when my Jeep was dead. This saves me money and I won’t have to deal with turning this feature off every time I drive.
I'm glad the video helped you out, just to be clear you do still have to push the button every time unless you get a programmer. This mod just removes the aux battery from the loop so you don't end up stranded again, thanks for watching the video!
@@ceeholleeb it still functions normally but this mod bypasses the aux battery. So you’ll need to push the button or get a programmer to keep it off. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Thanks so much for the response. I don't want to install a tazer, so i will manually just turn it off. If disconnecting the aux battery, can I leave the aux installed or should I remove it? Also will I lose any other features just relying on the main battery? @@FROSTBITEOFFROAD
My 2021 Wrangler stranded me in the woods last week. Had to get a buddy to come jump me off. Went straight to the dealership as I was 1600 miles left till warranty expired at 36,000. Sure enough...the aux battery had died and killed the big battery right behind it. They put in new batteries under warranty. Even though the Aux battery is now brand new........I went ahead and followed your video, pulled the F42, took off the negative Aux cable and wrapped it up. Strapped it to the other cable tight. Now on big battery only. Ive got the 2.0 Turbo but I turn off the start/stop via the switch each time anyway. Drove around to make sure I got no warning lights and all good at the dashboard. Big battery charging at 14.2. Tks mate...
I’m glad they covered you under warranty. It does suck that you got stranded in the woods, but you shouldn’t have that problem anymore after this mod. Thanks for watching the video!
Having same issue now with 2021 JL 2.0. Dealer claiming my dash cam is draining battery. Outlet is not powered when Jeep is off. Will remove it when I get it back from dealer.
I just did the bypass on my ‘22. Very simple. I did have to hold the power and enter buttons for ten seconds to get the radio to reset after disconnecting the power. Removing both grounds initially is necessary to separate the aux ground on ‘21 and up models. If you decide to completely remove your aux consider posting a video of that as well. Thanks very much.
Have at 2020 Gladiater, battery went dead on 3 years after purchase, turn in to dealer due to 5 years warrantee, no battery warrantee, cost me $700.00 late video to show me, but wiil delete aux. Battery for sure, dam good video
I just had my aux battery go bad and the first indication of a problem was the aux switch panel would not work and a dash message saying that the aux switches are unavailable due to battery charging. Will the aux switches work again after this modification? Fantastic video! Thanks!
That’s what happened to mine before it killed the main battery as well. Switches work just fine after this mod, I didn’t notice any change on mine at all. This will just remove the aux battery from the loop and the main battery will take the whole load. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Thanks for this information. I had been through nightmares of battery issues. I did install the odyssey H7 6 months ago and life is good. Haven't done the delete yet, but good information. 👍
No problem, I’m glad to hear you’re liking your battery so far. Yeah it’s good information to have if that auxiliary battery ever dies on you. Thanks for watching the video, Jeff!
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD im curious why you keep mentioning F42 then we pull F22. Which one are we pulling haha. I know F22 for sure but youve mentioned F42 several times in the video.
Thank you very much for the absolutely important information you supplied. Especially for those of us that go off-roading far into the wilderness. For those instances, the aux battery makes the vehicle unreliable. Great video.
Great video and I followed it in detail, to bypass the auxiliary battery but I'm still getting the warning light on the dashboard about the aux start. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brother!
It should go away after you drive it a bit, if it doesn’t I’d pull your main battery and have it tested at NAPA to see if it’s going out. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Thanks, that was a piece of cake!!! USELESS GOVERNMENT CRAP, THAT'LL WEAR YOUR STARTER OUT PREMATURELY!! WISH THEY WOULD STAY OUT OF OUR TOYS N STUFF!!!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!
Yeah, regulations definitely are changing these newer vehicles. I’d like it better if you push the button and it stayed off until you pushed it again. Thanks for watching the video!
Dear Bryan .. i tried to by pass the aux. Battery by removing fuse no. 42 and the small terminal from the battery.. and when I did that .. guess what .. the dash light of the ESS is gone and the feature start working again .. something beyond logic !! I have jeep wrangler JL 2018 How you explain this ??
This mod just removes the problematic aux battery from the loop, you will still have to push the button to turn off ESS or get a programmer to keep it off. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Reference bypassing the AUX battery but leaving it in place. Any concerns of the AUX battery deteriorating over time and leaking sulfuric acid onto the frame or other Jeep components?
great video, I haven't had any issues YET(matter of time) with my 2020 Gladiator Sport S and deleting the Aux looks simple enough. Did you lose the ability to use your remote start after the delete?
No, I didn’t loose any functionality with this mod. I actually was unable to remote start the last week or so before it finally died all the way. Adding the new battery and doing this mod fixed it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
I just followed your instructions on my 2020 JT. Removed fused, removed negative cable. Installed an H7 battery. Now my radio has blue accent instead of orange. I lost my back up camera and off road pages. What’s going on?!
Did you try driving it and cycling the battery a couple times, I know when my battery was going out it acted up a bit. You do have a 3.6 non e-torque correct?
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD thanks for the reply. It is working now. Yes 3.6 non etorq for future people having sane issue. Here is what I did. I took a short drive. I did cycle battery a few times and still nothing. But turns out just letting the JT sit shut off for 30 minutes updated everything.
I’m planing to do this delete on my 18 grand cherokee, should i ditch the positive cable from the aux battery as well or should i connect it to the main battery?
I’m not sure if this mod works on the Grands but I don’t see why not. You have to leave the positive lead connected or run it back up to the main battery positive terminal. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Awesome video on the AUX battery. My JT is 3 years old and tomorrow I’m going to disconnect the AUX battery. This method is way easier than removing it.
I have a 2020 Gladiator 28k miles. New main battery, removed fuse 42 and the aux cable. Jeep starts up and drives fine (drove around the neighborhood) but the check engine light is on and the backup camera is unavailable.
Hey man i have a 20 jeep wrangler jl and o removed the fuse f42 and the auxiliary battery ground cable.. tape it and secured it out of the way, but the start stop function is still working,is that normal or did i do something wrong I thought that by disconecting the fuse and ground it woud disable that function
No, this mod just removes the aux battery from the loop. You’ll have to still push the button or get a programmer to have it stay off. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
If you hit the button to turn off the start/stop button every time you start the vehicle, do you have anything to worry about regarding the aux battery going dead?
So just so I understand. You are basically just disconnecting the negative that runs to the aux battery, wrapping it up, removing the fuse and this will eliminate the aux battery from the electrical equation, right? I dont drive my truck enough to keep the aux battery charged and it is always in the back of my mind that its going to leave me stranded. Mine is a 21 still on the original batteries.
So when people do the bypass disconnect (pull fuse and tape off negative wire), then do they just leave the aux battery where it is? I suppose there is no harm in leaving it in the vehicle for years to come.
Yeah I left mine in, it shouldn’t be an issue. If you do decide to remove it completely you will have to run the Aux positive lead up to the main battery and tape off the negative lead. Thanks for watching the video!
Hey there, so simply switching the fuse and removing the negative terminal is enough to disable the aux battery? Does this reroute the start stop to the main battery or disable it permanently? Also, can the aux battery and the positive and negative lines attached to it be left in the jeep?
Yes, this mod will remove the aux battery from the loop. It will still run the stop start system on the main battery unless you get a programer to disable it. I simply just pushed the button to disable it on start ups. You can leave the lower cables and aux battery in the vehicle, making it easier if you want to switch back to stock. Thanks for watching the video!
I have a 2020 rubicon. Will removing the negative keep that aux battery from completely draining the main if it dies? Or will that positive still cause it to slowly drain?
No, you only have to remove the negative for the axillary battery and pull the fuse shown in the video. It’s a pretty easy mod and can save you a headache down the road. Thanks for watching the video!
It was nice and a pleasure to watch. I was between this and the other version of moving the aux positive up to the main and taping the negative. Wasnt sure the difference/which would be better. opinion? I dont have a tazer. I just press the dumb button. My overall worry is the aux draining my main. I dont drive the ‘necessary’ freeway speed/allotted tjme for it to ‘charge’
@@Busterblader13 yeah that’s another way to accomplish the same thing, that way is more work and harder to reverse if you need to go in for warranty work at the dealership. I just preferred this method and I’m in the same boat having to hit the button every startup but it’s pretty much second nature now.
By taking out the fuse and disconnecting the negative terminal to the auxiliary battery, will that take care of the constant turning off the start/stop button? In other words if I follow your video, I won't have to mess around with the start/stop button anymore?
It only removes the aux battery from the electrical system, you still will have to hit the button to disable it every time. You can get a Tazer and reprogram it if you want, thanks for watching the video Matt!
I don’t see why not, I just would make sure you never use your stop/start function. All the strain would be on your small H6 main battery to run accessories and restart the vehicle. H hi nope this helps, thanks for watching Jeff!
I replaced the large battery, removed fuse 42, and removed and taped off the thin negative cable about a week or so ago. I drove it this morning and the ESS turned the jeep off and on at a traffic light. I was under the impression that this would make the ESS feature stop working. Am I wrong? Also, volts were at 12.9 while idle. 14 whild driving. I have it on a trickle charger/maintainer now.
You still have to push the button on the dash to turn off ESS every time you drive or get a Tazer to leave it off like I mentioned. The voltage will fluctuate, the alternator is charging the battery while driving and at idle it will be around 12v so no need to trickle charge it. Mine has been working no problem for over a month now, let me know if you have any more questions.
12.7 v is perfect at idle... your battery is good and charged. You can buy an ASS eliminator for less than $100.. some are even $50. This plugs into the same place as a Tazer... but ONLY effects the start/stop feature. It gives you control of the system, it has a memory , so if you turn it off, it stays off without any more button pushing until you want to turn it back on.
I doubt it, the aux battery is like a motorcycle battery. You would want to get a similar spec with the same style posts if you were going to replace it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
I didn’t notice anything, it functions like stock. This mod doesn’t eliminate the stop/start function just the aux battery from the loop. Thanks for watching the video!
Yeah I would pull the fuse and disconnect the aux battery then jump the main battery. This should get you back on the road. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
When you do the bypass, are you leaving the auxiliary battery in its place with the cables still connected but only disconnecting the negative on the main battery?
That is correct, if you remove the aux battery you will need to run the aux positive lead up to the main battery positive terminal. I may do this down the road but it isn’t necessary. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video Alan!
I heard that on the newer 21 models that the negative cable runs to the firewall ground instead of the negative post on the auxiliary battery like the older ones did in your video. So with that said, if I remove the smaller cable on my starter battery is the auxiliary battery still somehow connected to the firewall? Or do I need to remove the negative cable directly from the auxiliary battery? Thanks, Chris
@@AdventurousRedJeep from what I’ve heard the only difference on the 2021 and up is that they swapped the connections on the main battery end. So yours will look reversed from mine, the smaller diameter cable should still be the negative coming up from the aux battery. So removing it will isolate that aux battery down below. Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching Chris!
Many thanks! I'm going to do it this weekend! Is electric tape enough to insulate the negative cable / is there something else I can do to insulate? I would consider removing the aux battery completely at some point.
I just did a thick layer of tape and zip tied it out of the way so it wouldn’t touch anything. I did want to use heat shrink but I didn’t have a large enough diameter one to fit over the metal lead. I will probably pull my aux battery and run the positive up to the main one next time I have the fender off. Thanks for watching the video Stephen!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD - so you didn't actually remove the dead AUX battery, nor remove the red+ lead from it? You only disconnected the black- lead, tied it off, & removed the fuse ... that's all? How long did you leave the AUX battery in its original spot before removing it? Because this looks like the simplest/quickest way to isolate the dead AUX battery (for the short term). Of course, you'd want to eventually remove the AUX & attach its red+ lead up top (onto main battery post) as other YT videos have illustrated. My ride is a '21 JT, but appears to be same or similar set up.
The positive aux battery lead is already attached to the main battery so no need to do anything with it. You just need to remove the negative aux lead from the main battery and pull the fuse. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.

It will function as normal but the strain will be all on the main battery. You can always get a programmer and disable the button if you want. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
This is true Eddy (Wayalife) did it that way in his install video, it did look like a lot more work though. As long as you have extra fender clips it’s not too bad. Thanks for watching the video Michael!
Yeah this mod just bypasses the aux battery and removes it from the loop. You will still have to push the button on startup or get a programmer to keep it off. Thanks for watching the video!
I followed the instructions and also installed a new main battery (dead aux battery drained the main). Worked perfectly for a day but the “ESS not available” light came on again today. Triple checked that I pulled the correct fuse. Any ideas? Is my new main battery getting drained even with the negative terminal disconnected??
With the negative cable to the auxiliary battery disconnected, it takes that battery out of the loop so it shouldn’t be draining your new main battery. I have seen where new batteries have bad cells, so having it checked is probably not a bad idea. The auto parts store will test it for free. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Yes, this mod will isolate the main battery. Assuming that the auxiliary battery didn’t completely drain your main battery if that was the case you would need some way to jump it. But I’ve been able to start my jeep with 10 1/2 V after cranking a few times. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
I understand that it works for the 3.6 v6 engine, but will this work for a 2.0, 4 cylinder turbo mild hybrid engine? Will It still keep the battery charged?
This is only for the 3.6L engine as far as I know. The 2.0 hybrid shouldn’t have this aux battery, instead it will have a 48v battery under the backseat. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video Russell!
I have a gladiator 2021 and I removed the thin wire then put tape on it and I removed the fuse F42. Once I started the Jeep, the A is still on the dashboard. Can u please let me know what I’m doing wrong, thank you
I would pull your main battery negative for awhile and reset the system, that should remove the error if you pulled the correct aux battery negative and fuse 42. I would also make sure your ESS sensor on the main battery negative is fully seated. It is also important that the fuse was pulled first before the aux negative was removed, let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for watching Hector!
I have a 2020 Gladiator 28k miles. New main battery, removed fuse 42 and the aux cable. Jeep starts up and drives fine (drove around the neighborhood) but the check engine light is on and the backup camera is unavailable.
That sounds like a low voltage issue, I’d test your main battery at Napa just to see. Some people have had to start the Jeep a couple times to get rid of dash lights. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Please get back to me on this question: I have a new h6 battery and my auxiliary battery is dead, is it a good idea just to disable the auxiliary battery once it’s already dead by taking out the fuse, when I have a new H6 battery installed or just simple get a new auxiliary battery and then disable the auxiliary battery? I still have a warranty on the 2019 Jeep wrangler.
I was in the same scenario when I did mine. I left my dead aux battery in the vehicle and then bypassed it and ran a new main battery. I wouldn’t waste the money on another aux battery if you are planning on running the bypass. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video!
I appreciate the detail on this. Some vids take for granted you know some of the small details. Yes we might but lots of folks aren't sure and the attention to the small steps gives a person a bit of comfort knowing all the steps to doing the job correctly. Thanks for the detail.
Hi Bryan, Thank you very much for your video. I’m having trouble with starting my Wrangler JL (my guess is the small battery killing everything) Do you confirm that removing the fuse and taping the cable will sort the thing out? I will be able to still start the vehicle? Thank you. Best, G
Yeah, if the small battery is the culprit then you should be able to do this mod and jump your main battery and be good to go. If the main battery got too low on voltage you might want to replace it, hope this helps thanks for watching!
@frostbiteoffroad first thank you for the awesome video. Can you clarify for the fuse is it F42? On mine it show is a 5A fuse. It does say the same description and yours. Mine is a 20 wrangler. Thank you sir.
I do know they changed some stuff for the newer ones, if it’s the same position and description than I would think it would work the same. It doesn’t hurt to try, thanks for watching the video!
I did this mod on my 2021 JLU 2.0 turbo. I had a mechanic remove the aux battery altogether and i told him to just tape up the cables that connected to the aux battery. We installed a brand new main battery and after a couple of weeks..i'm getting low voltage warning and then the "Stop safely Vehicle will shut off soon" warning. I drove around locally for 30 minutes and the jeep never shut off. Fuse is pulled.. and also the negative cable (that went to the aux) is disconnected. Any Ideas?
You have to run the positive back up and connect it to the main battery, the negative is ok to tape off but the positive needs to be connected. I’d try that as a first step, let me know how it works out!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD I wound up installing a new aux battery and noticed that the batt voltage was still reading lower than normal and after 10 minutes of driving the battery light came on. Went home and started trouble shooting with the simplest things first. Turns out one of the grounds that's connected to the frame of the jeep was LOOSE! Tightened that baby up and i'm getting 14+ volts instead of 12.3 and the light hasn't come back on.
Wait you're telling me I can run only on my main battery and completely get rid of this aux battery by just pulling a fuse? Because I'm pretty sure my aux battery is dying again after another 2 years right now? I hope this is what you're telling me cuz I want to do this ASAP
Yes, you can bypass the aux battery but you’ll have to pull the fuse and disconnect the negative aux lead from your main battery. Mine is still working great, hope this helps!
From what I’ve read, it changed halfway through the year. You’ll want to disconnect the smaller diameter one running to the firewall. You’ll know if you did the wrong one because the Jeep won’t start. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
The H6 will work but it will be under more stress if you still use the SS function. When it comes time for a new battery I would recommend getting an H7. Thanks for watching the video!

If I don’t currently have any aftermarket items going to the battery do I need to upgrade to the larger battery still? Or can I just bypass the Aux now? I’m getting the warning message now that says Aux buttons are not available whenever I forget to turn off the auto start.
I’d upgrade it while you’re at it but it’s totally up to you. I’d image your main battery is on its last leg if you’re getting warnings already. You could take the main battery to Napa and have it tested for peace of mind. Thanks for watching the video!
This mod doesn’t disable the SS just removes the problematic aux battery from the loop. If you want it to stay off you need to get a programmer. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
FYI, I have a JL (2023 High Tide) 3.6 manufactured 1-23 by the vin sticker. There is no longer a aux battery below the fuse box. first clue was the neg batt. cable has changed to a single large wire. (If your 22 has the single wire neg connection it's probably the same). there is still they tray but no longer a battery. Not sure if they changed the system due to issues or not, just thought i would save you some time. I didn't see a TSB addressing this.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD yes it is. I have yet to find anything from jeep that says the 48V works as a aux battery replacing the small problematic one from before. Either way, I’m glad they addressed the issue.
It will be the smaller diameter cable running to the firewall. You’ll know if you do the wrong one because the Jeep won’t start, I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
It should go away after a few cycles but if it doesn’t I’d pull the main battery and have it check at NAPA. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Yeah, I heard about this issue a long time ago and was wondering when mine was going to check out. Thankfully it was sitting in the garage. Thanks for watching the video!
My 2020 Diesel wont auto start and main battery has been 12-13v while on. You guys think it the aux battery? And if bypassed will the aux switches still work?
I would imagine you batteries are probably on the way out. My aux battery definitely killed my main battery and the bypass and new main battery were necessary. I would imagine this bypass would work just haven’t seen it done on a diesel. Yes your aux switches will still work with just the main battery. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video!
I have a 2021 Wrangler EcoDiesel. Lucky for me that my Aux battery is directly under my main battery. Unlucky for all of us is that we have an Aux battery. I replaced both batteries on the 3 year anniversary of my Jeep being made before I had any issues. I live in the desert of Arizona and batteries die in about 3 years. I didn't want it to die on a ride in the desert. I push the button after starting my Jeep. I don't want the engine turning off when I am at a traffic light or when I apply the brake while off roading. I carry a Type S Jump Starter Power Bank with me all the time. I figure I can disconnect the Aux battery when I have a problem and jump the main battery to get going if I have to. I will replace my main battery and delete my Aux battery on the 2nd 3rd anniversary. Thanks for the tip on the F42 fuse.
Only problem with the auxiliary battery bypass you will eventfully lose the power to your 4 AUX switches. I had to replace the Auxiliary battery to get my AUX switches back.
It could be easily swapped back if you needed warranty work done but I totally get it. Hopefully your aux battery has a long life! Thanks for watching the video!
Going through a bricked '22 Jeep 4xe for the 2nd time in 6 days. Changed my stock for the Odyssey, in the first trip to the dealership the "mechanic" blamed the error and dead Jeep on the new battery when I know (at least I have a strong inclination), its the aux battery that's failing.
According to what I’ve read, the 4xe doesn’t have an Aux battery. It has the big battery under the back seat that handles that job. I would have the dealership figure it out, I’m assuming you still have your bumper to bumper warranty.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD You are correct, there isn't an aux battery, I feel like a ping pong ball, the dealership says the odyssey is the problem, the shop I bought it from says it the 4xe and dealership. I try to look at bright things in life but holy f**k this past week hasn't helped.
@@gareman9417 yeah that sounds like a headache, do you still have your old battery? I would try a different dealership if you have another one fairly close. If all else fails contact Jeep Cares and file a claim they will contact the dealership on your behalf, good luck man!
It should after driving it a bit but if not you may need to pull your main battery and have it tested. Let me know if you have any more questions, thanks for watching the video!
That is absolutely what I want to do to my Gladiator. I'm sick of the out of warranty dealer excuses and I never use auto start-stop. Thanks Frosty, I've subscribed
Saw you replace main battery and deactivate the fuse for the small battery but didn’t see small battery being taken out, did you just leave the dead small a battery in??
Yeah I left it in just in case I wanted to swap back for a warranty issue or something of that nature. It’s a nice easy mod, I’d definitely recommend it!
I deleted my AUX batter by pulling the fuse and disconnecting the ground. Installed the new battery. But when I first start the JL in the morning I get the red low battery warning on the dash, , and a Vt meter I have in the cigarette lighter shows 11.5 volts. What did I do wrong. Seems like it's still reading the Aux battery also.
That’s interesting, I would have the new main battery checked at Napa on their tester. It’s not unheard of to get a new battery that’s bad. If you pulled the aux negative cable and the correct fuse then you have isolated the aux battery from the loop. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video Rick!
Actually, I had gotten a new Mopar battery from the dealer about a year ago, so I assumed it was a bad battery, so that I why I upgraded to the one from your video. from @@FROSTBITEOFFROAD
@@rickgoldberg2392 have you driven the Jeep at all or cycled the power a few times. You could also have an electrical draw from somewhere if you park for a long time. Did you do any recent mods?
Correct, if you pull the aux battery you’ll have to run the aux positive up to the main battery and tape off the aux negative to be safe. That way is a lot more work and not necessary. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Thank you for very detailed informative video. I took a chance and replaced my old aux battery and it died within 2 weeks. Kind pf scary that it wouldn't take a jump start and dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights, warning beeps, etc. Thankfully I was in my garage. Not exactly sure what happened (wasn't fully charged from auto store or perhaps alternator fuse blew and aux battery wouldn't charge), but I decided to go ahead and bypass the aux battery altogether using this method. After bypassing, the main battery jump started right up and is now running fine. I did get a check engine light initially but by the 3rd start it went away. Keep these great videos coming!
No problem, this is the exact scenario I was hoping to avoid in my Jeep. Thankfully I was in my garage as well and not in the middle of nowhere but if you can do this simple mod you can jump start it and get home. Thanks for watching the video Michael!
You can disconnect the main negative and see if it resets. If not, you could always put it back how it was it’s a pretty easy swap. You shouldn’t have gotten a check engine light though from just doing that swap so you might need to have it diagnosed, hope this helps. Thanks for watching the video!
Thanks for the great video. I bought a Duracell H6 from Sam's Club in Feb of this year, and it died a couple of months later. Sam's replaced it under warranty, and yesterday it died again. Both times the battery was showing it was defective on their load tester, so it's not like it was only needing a charge. It's worth noting that my ESS has been "unavailable" for a few months now with the amber Avengers dash light on. Sam's gave me a full refund on the H6, so I picked up a EverStart (China) Platinum AGM H7 from Walmart since nearly every town in the USA seems to have one. I performed the Aux bypass as shown in the video. The Off-Road app still functions correctly, and my ESS is working again. With that said IF I do not push the ESS disable button on the dash are there any issues with the H7 handling ESS on it's own since the AUX is now bypassed?
I’m glad you were able to get a refund and get the large H7 battery. I have forgotten to turn the ESS button off a few times and everything functions fine. It will just use the main battery for the accessories when the motor is off during an ESS cycle. Thanks for watching the video, John!
I did the bypass here by pulling fuse 42 (10amp) and then removing the neg cable for the aux battery.. Jeep (a 2018) starts fine but I still get the "Service AUX Battery" dash message.. what did I do wrong? (although it's so simple I can't see how I messed it up) on running I'm getting 14.2V at idle after start. Thanks
Your main battery might be on the way out, I’d have it tested at Napa to be sure. Sounds like you did everything correctly, did the message ever go away?
No... aux is still disco like you showed and fuse is pulled.. just drive 1500 miles on a trip to Florida and it starts fine, but I still have the dash light. I will have the batt tested though, but it seems fine.. and I triple checked that I pulled the correct fuse@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD
I would start with that battery test, that light let’s you know you’re battery is going out. I had to replace my battery under warranty and it was giving me the same light and saying my aux light switches were unavailable. Swapped the battery for a new one and haven’t had a problem since, let me know how it works out.
So you left the Aux battery in the vehicle, but disconnected it's negative connection to the main battery, correct? Doing this won't still drain the main battery since the positive is still connected? Yeah, I know... I'm not too bright so please use small words. Good video, thanks for posting it.
No, removing the negative aux lead at the main battery removes it from the electrical loop. It’s an easy mod and gives you some peace of mind when you’re out in the woods. Mines still going strong, thanks for watching!
If you are stranded with a bad auxiliary battery, can you pull the fuse and disconnect the ground wire on it to get started again, or is your main battery now dead as well, requiring a jump?
This mod will trick the system into only monitoring the main battery, so yes this should help to get you off the trail if you have a way to jump the main battery. Hope this helps, thanks for watching Mitchell!
I did this with 2021 Gladiator and it seemed to have worked great other than I have lost off road and manual reverse camera buttons on Uconnect. If I put the jeep in reverse the back up camera works. But if I put it in 4 wheel drive and and hit the off road button ( right next to axel lock ) the off road screen will appear on Uconnect but will not open the actual app. Hoping maybe this is just from disconnecting the battery and will reset itself. BTW I did try resetting Uconnect with no luck.
That’s interesting, I don’t have the off-road pages on mine and haven’t noticed any difference since the Aux delete. I’d try it for awhile and if you don’t like it it’s always an easy swap back to stock. I do know they changed some things for the 2021 model year so that may be why it’s a little different. Let me know what you find out, thanks for watching Michael!
I have a 2020. Ran aux cables to main battery (hot to hot, ground to ground). No fuses pulled. Everything works perfectly. Sometime in 2021 this fuse pull thing came about. Try putting it back in…
Did you ever get it fixed? I just did this to mine and lost my backup cam and off-road pages along with passengers heated seats. Also my infotainment center is now blue and shows Uconnect instead of the original one. 2020 gladiator
Yes, you will still have to push the button on startup. You can get a programmer and have it remember your last setting if you want. Thanks for watching the video!
Ignorance is indeed a bliss. That battery powers multiple ECU’s and allows them to safely power down. By hot-wiring the system to remove it, you are effectively ‘pulling the plug’ on them at the ignition cycle, thus make more harm to your vehicle. There is a very valid reason why a large group of automotive engineers put one in. You are better off not bolting on untested aftermarket appliances that draw current, or create harmful loops while the engine is off.
I believe the Wrangler is one of the few vehicles that has two batteries with a stop/start system. I would have your battery tested at Napa and maybe try an AGM battery for your next one. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

Hi,
I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport which began giving me problems with the autostart not working properly.
Joe
Glad the video helped you out Joe, thanks for watching it!
Lol..
Best video on this yet. You actually took the time to show where the fuse was located.
Thanks for watching, I’m glad it helped you out!
Thank you.
Glad the video helped you out, thanks for watching it!

I did this 2 years ago, no issues at all. Best modification you can do. And, my start/stop still works, not that I use it though.
That’s cool to hear, mines still working great as well. Thanks for watching Phillip!
Yeah a trip to the dealership can get a little pricey. Glad the video helped you out, thanks for watching!
Just spent $700 last week at Jeep dealership getting both of my batteries replaced on my 21 gladiator. Smh...
Thanks for the video. To sum it up, you A. Pull fuse 42 - and B. Disconnect the thinner neg cable from main battery and wrap / secure it. That's it??

@FROSTBITEOFFROAD im curious why you keep mentioning F42 then we pull F22. Which one are we pulling haha. I know F22 for sure but youve mentioned F42 several times in the video.
Thank you very much for the absolutely important information you supplied. Especially for those of us that go off-roading far into the wilderness. For those instances, the aux battery makes the vehicle unreliable. Great video.
Yeah, I’m definitely more confident in this battery setup. Thanks for watching the video!
Thank you I will be doing this today
Have fun!

Mine was totally fine, Jeep uses AGM batteries so no need to worry about leaks. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
great video, I haven't had any issues YET(matter of time) with my 2020 Gladiator Sport S and deleting the Aux looks simple enough.

It was correct when I made that video over a year ago, I just updated the link thanks for pointing that out!
If you hit the button to turn off the start/stop button every time you start the vehicle, do you have anything to worry about regarding the aux battery going dead?
I always turned mine off and my battery eventually died. Thankfully I was in the garage not out in the woods lol, thanks for watching the video!
Great info. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Gary!
Yes you are correct, it’s a pretty simple mod that will save you a headache later. Thanks for watching the video!
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD thanks a bunch man!
Best explanation ever … good luck brother … From Baghdad
Thanks for watching the video!
Great video. But nothing seems to work for me. Heading to the dealer on Monday 😢
Good luck, thanks for watching the video!
Can you also do the bypass on a H6 battery
I wonder if it’s possible to relocate the aux battery and replace it with a yellow top with blowing any fuses etc
I doubt it, the aux battery is like a motorcycle battery. You would want to get a similar spec with the same style posts if you were going to replace it. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Go ahead and go ahead. Then go ahead and go ahead. After that go ahead and go ahead, then finally go ahead and go ahead!
@frostbiteoffroad Beside the auto start/stop are there any other functions lost by removing the auxiliary battery?
I didn’t notice anything, it functions like stock. This mod doesn’t eliminate the stop/start function just the aux battery from the loop. Thanks for watching the video!
Can I do pull the fuse out if both my batteries are dead?
So this will stop it from draining the big battery right?
Correct, this mod completely removes the aux battery from the loop. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Triple checked that I pulled the correct fuse. Any ideas? Is my new main battery getting drained even with the negative terminal disconnected??
I can’t recall but I may have disconnected the negative terminal before pulling the fuse. Unsure, but is the sequence important?
With the negative cable to the auxiliary battery disconnected, it takes that battery out of the loop so it shouldn’t be draining your new main battery. I have seen where new batteries have bad cells, so having it checked is probably not a bad idea. The auto parts store will test it for free. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!

No problem, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you’re install goes well, let me know if you have any questions and thanks for watching!
Hi Bryan,
Thank you very much for your video.
I’m having trouble with starting my Wrangler JL (my guess is the small battery killing everything)
Do you confirm that removing the fuse and taping the cable will sort the thing out? I will be able to still start the vehicle?
Thank you.
Best,
G
What about remote start future, still going to work right???
Yeah, it still works great!
Just to clarify - you're saying ALL 2021 jeeps have the cable reversed or did they do a half and half year or anything?
From what I’ve read, it changed halfway through the year. You’ll want to disconnect the smaller diameter one running to the firewall. You’ll know if you did the wrong one because the Jeep won’t start. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
if I don't have the H7 in my Jeep, do I need to upgrade the battery in order to bypass the Aux battery? or will the H6 do the job, thanks in advance
The H6 will work but it will be under more stress if you still use the SS function. When it comes time for a new battery I would recommend getting an H7. Thanks for watching the video!
I have friends that own their own shopping two of them Jeep repair shops in both of them said It does a lot more than your auto start feature stop feature It's made run with the computer Your alternator is not going to charge you big battery if your idling it won't be charged at that time It is made to work with the computer and everything in and they're disconnecting the fuse is not doing it I'm telling you these guys run their own shop and they would do it on theirs if they thought it was the right thing to do and okay to do I'm just telling you I'm not doing mine much as it's the pain in the butt like he told me he said just get two good batteries which I did and they last about 5 years and then I get new ones I got a tazer for my auto start stop feature and my bigger 37s we reprogram the transmission You can reprogram the gears do all that Just get two good batteries and you don't have to worry about it you'll never know you have a problem replace them before they go bad Don't even jeep that doesn't come with it like people say well I don't have it well that's cuz they have the eTorque motor It was set up different This motor in the 3.6 will set up and made to run with that battery for a reason They didn't just put it in there for one feature but you know everybody can do what they want I'm not doing it on mine after my friend that is a very good mechanic has been doing off-roads Jeep and truck repair for 30 years said don't do it I'm not going to do it
If I don’t currently have any aftermarket items going to the battery do I need to upgrade to the larger battery still? Or can I just bypass the Aux now? I’m getting the warning message now that says Aux buttons are not available whenever I forget to turn off the auto start.
I’d upgrade it while you’re at it but it’s totally up to you. I’d image your main battery is on its last leg if you’re getting warnings already. You could take the main battery to Napa and have it tested for peace of mind. Thanks for watching the video!
Is this suposed to work on 2022 Gladiator?
I removed fuse 42 and disconnected the battery cabel and stil auto start/stop not disabled.
Any idias?
Thanks for the info Mike, is your JL an e-torque? Those Jeep’s have a 48v battery underneath the vehicle that replaces the aux battery setup.
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD yes it is. I have yet to find anything from jeep that says the 48V works as a aux battery replacing the small problematic one from before. Either way, I’m glad they addressed the issue.
I have a Jeep gladiator 2023 Willy. On my battery the negative terminal has only two cables. Which one is the one I could tape up and tuck away?
It will be the smaller diameter cable running to the firewall. You’ll know if you do the wrong one because the Jeep won’t start, I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I did this and I'm off the Auxiliary and the fuse is pulled ,however i still have the "A!" Warning light. will this eventually go off?
It should go away after a few cycles but if it doesn’t I’d pull the main battery and have it check at NAPA. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Did it last night. Feel relieved.. AUX battery is really PIA
Yeah, I heard about this issue a long time ago and was wondering when mine was going to check out. Thankfully it was sitting in the garage. Thanks for watching the video!
I need a battery that will run the electric chair I recently got from the Texas state prison.
We can make that happen for you
My 2020 Diesel wont auto start and main battery has been 12-13v while on.
It sounds like you have a good backup plan, thanks for watching the video!
Only problem with the auxiliary battery bypass you will eventfully lose the power to your 4 AUX switches. I had to replace the Auxiliary battery to get my AUX switches back.
Mine is still working just fine, did you replace your main battery?
Good video,I will wait until my warranty expires before I do that
It could be easily swapped back if you needed warranty work done but I totally get it.
What if the light doesnt go off?
It should after driving it a bit but if not you may need to pull your main battery and have it tested. Let me know if you have any more questions, thanks for watching the video!
That is absolutely what I want to do to my Gladiator. I'm sick of the out of warranty dealer excuses and I never use auto start-stop.
Thanks Frosty, I've subscribed
Yeah it’s a pretty sweet mod, thanks for watching and the sub!
So this is the second battery same thing.
@@rickgoldberg2392 have you driven the Jeep at all or cycled the power a few times. You could also have an electrical draw from somewhere if you park for a long time. Did you do any recent mods?
So just to be clear here, I can leave the auxiliary battery where it's at and pull the fuse and take off that negative terminal? And im done?
Correct, if you pull the aux battery you’ll have to run the aux positive up to the main battery and tape off the aux negative to be safe. That way is a lot more work and not necessary. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!
Wish I would have seen this before I sent my jeep to the shop. The just taxed me $900 on those 2 crappy batteries.
Well you probably needed the main battery and you could always bypass the aux one in a pinch. Thanks for watching the video!
Absolute perfect vid!!! Thanks
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
Thanks! Very helpful 👌
No problem guy’s, thanks for all your awesome videos and discount codes! 🤘
My check engine light came on any after changing battery and zip tie the negative and removed fuse..what can I do about check engine light? Ty
Excellent, thank you!@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD
Try putting it back in…
Thanks Tinker but I guess it was just the computer trying to figure out what happened , everything went back to normal by itself.
@@Tinker3504
Did you ever get it fixed? I just did this to mine and lost my backup cam and off-road pages along with passengers heated seats. Also my infotainment center is now blue and shows Uconnect instead of the original one. 2020 gladiator
Do I still have to push the Stop/Start battery every time? Or will it just not function?
Yes, you will still have to push the button on startup. You can get a programmer and have it remember your last setting if you want. Thanks for watching the video!
Can I just remove the fuse and not physically remove the aux battery?
Yes but you have to disconnect the aux battery negative terminal at the main battery. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
You must be one of the engineers
By chance would this work on a ‘18 compass? (Fuse may be different but wondering if it would work) I’ve had so many battery problems
I believe the Wrangler is one of the few vehicles that has two batteries with a stop/start system. I would have your battery tested at Napa and maybe try an AGM battery for your next one. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@@FROSTBITEOFFROAD I have had it replaced twice. The newer compass has 2 batt setup also and I’ve had nothing but issues out of it.
