Definitely didn’t know how to use a remote to run conventional trains! Neat video!

So you have to run 2 independent loops.
Ok, that was pretty cool to learn. Good tip.
    -Thanks

90% of my trains are post and pre war. A few years back I purchased a used Lionel Yankee with Proto 3. I could get it to run off my Lionel CW-80, but not very well. I assume MTH built the train and put Lionel's name on it. I finally purchased a used MTH, DCS Remote Commander and a MTH brick to replace the old transformer when I am running the Yankee and boy is it fun! t takes a few minutes to swap out power supplies, but I will get used to it.

I still run conventional control but I need this for my MTH locomotives. Thanks for the info. Subbed.

Thank you Joey! That was also the reason why I had to get the DCS system as well.

Just found this!!! Thanks!! So I just have to make sure 1 loop is on variable. Right now I'm having trouble switching engines. Tracks have power and the remote reads but I'm stuck on one engine. Hope it's just batteries. Don't have anyone close to help. I have a dealer 45 min away, don't know if he'd spend time on the phone to help me out. Your video is a big help!!!

You DO NOT need to have Fix output in order to run DCS in a varible output. You just have to jumper power wires from FIXED IN to VARIABLE IN in order to power the variable channel. I only have one set of wires running from out to tracks.. .and that is Variable one out. That's it. I run DCS and conventional on that one set only. I do however have jumper cables from FIX in to Variable in.

What do you do if you want to run the New York Central on the outside rail and the General on the inner rail?

    • @mattcastrains416

Great question. So if I want to run the New York Central on the outer track, what I can do is just turn track power up to 18 volts, start the engine up and run it as a command control engine. However, because the inner track will only control a train equipped with command control, to run the General, I would just unplug the wires on the TIU and plug them into a variable channel, so that I can adjust the voltage going that track and run it that way. It’s a little confusing yes, but that’s how I have it set up as of now.
