The naming always confuses me. Surely it was originally an R8 because it had an 8 cylinder engine. Then it was a 10 cylinder but still an R8. Also, agree with Doug, its a bit of a shame it went from an affordable, usable sports car to something out lf reach for everyone but the wealthiest.
The R8 road car was named after the R8 LMP race car, but the number in the name being the same as the cylinder count was a coincidence I think. The R8 LMP had an 8 cylinder engine, but the R10 had a V12, the R15 had a V10 and the R18 had a V6🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
One factual correction, its official name is "R8 V10 GT RWD", according to Audi "paying homage to the original GT" with the GT badging... but is technically not really the new "R8 GT". A great car on paper, but falls short of changes the original GT had... I've made a whole video on this, but in short: the original GT went so much further - it didn't even have the same chassis code it was that different to the stock cars. Still, this new car is cool, but even Audi's official press info admits it's not quite a GT.
I think the switch for exotic sports cars from ICE to electric and hybrid power trains is entirely about optics. Regular commuter cars are also the same to a certain extent. But Volvo put out a study where they estimate an electric car would need to be driven 60k miles to break even with a comparable ICE car in terms of overall carbon emissions (from manufacturing and energy consumption). Considering these exotic cars are hoarded and driven only a few miles every year, it might actually be more detrimental for these type of cars to become electric rather than if we just let rich people have their toys. The only reason why this is happening is because given the current political climate on environmental issues it becomes distasteful for rich people to be seen driving around in loud V12 and V10 cars that are seen as excessive and polluting by the general public. But considering how few miles they put in these cars the biggest environmental impact is manufacturing emissions considering how many of them they purchase to stuff in their car collections and since we dare not tell people what they can or can't buy then we don't have any control over that.
This car doesn't need a center infotainment screen and the lack of one of those doesn't make an interior outdated. The interior is tasteful and built to age well. This car is a collector's item and an ugly screen in a car like this would be tacky. I prefer dials and buttons any day. I'm also glad this car has a cd player!
The nice thing about this car is that you can actually see the engine, it’s not under a plastic shroud that only an engineer can access. You can access the engine. Just like how you used to be able to in all modern exotics. Most now have some sort of shroud like McLaren etc
If I was multi millionaire 3 cars I’d have in my garage. This Audi R8, Ferrari f12 & Audi 2024 rs6s the last natural aspirated none electric hypbrid nonsense in there V12,V10 & V6 forms. Can only see this cars holding value for the most part or going up by the year.
I remember falling in love with the R8 with its Le Mans Quattro concept in NFS Carbon, with its futuristic design, V10 sound and best stats in the game, it didn't get cooler than that. I'd love to own a 1st Gen V10 R8 with a manual, a rare gem.

Was in love with the R8 since the RSQ concept from iRobot back in 2004. Audi has always knocked it out of the park with design. The V10 heart was icing on the cake.
Doug the kind of guy to rob 123$ from BurgerKing the other Thursday night and following day buys a whooper at BurgerKing where he stole money from after repaying his cameraman.
this and the final edition ttrs are both such great send off for these cars. i honestly think that their digital dash only will be looked back on positively as some of the last sports cars to not have 2 massive screens taking up the entire dash.
Doug the interior of the R8 is pretty much kind of what they have done with the Veyron and Chiron avoiding screens to make it timeless. They didn’t do it as much as they did in Bugatti, but I look that as a great thing in the interior design of the car. I only wish that they kept the gauge cluster analog instead of digital.
I think Audi made a good decision with the simple interior with little infotainment. They're taking a page out of Bugatti's book putting in as little technology as possible to keep the car timeless. A nice touch for the final run of the R8.
I think all manufacturers need to take a look at this interior. It's perfect! No infotainment is a plus for me, it all looks modern, stylish and sporty to me. Maybe even timeless! Love the dials for the climate controls, everything about it. In my opinion it's absolutely NOT dated at all! But opinion differ ofcourse
Is it me or would it look better without the spoiler? I'm usually a fan of all spoilers because I love performance, just thinking it looks so smooth without it.
I propose "RS10" for the next gen so they can finally fix their lineup and naming scheme. A3/S3/RS3 through A8/S8/RS8. At the very top: RS10. Then you have your E-tron line.
The "long line" badge near the glovebox (10:08) has a logical explanation. The niche it fits in is designed for the "quattro" badge. The phrase "RWD" is shorter by comparison, so the line is Audi's way of getting it to fit.
I still remember the first time I saw an Audi R8. It was 2008 and I was driving out to LA to check out the Museum of Tolerance and on my left hand side an R8 rolled by in the carpool lane all smooth. That car was good looking then and still good looking now.

I absolutely love that there isn't a center screen. It's super clean
Rest in peace Audi and Lamborghini's 5.2L V10 engine. The last surviving V10 engine of the modern era. RIP V10 engines. You will be remembered for your amazing performance and voices.
hey not too bad, McLaren stuck a Judd V10 in their Solus GT, but still, it's the only one with the V10
😢 even though it’s gone you can still get them right now so what it’s used most don’t even have 40000 miles on them just get a ten year loan 💵 your monthly payments will be around 600 a month and people pay 6000 a month for the Lamborghini so there is hope to have something special 😊
Love this car! Must say I prefer the simple buttons in the center as it ages better with time, just like in the Bugatti Chiron.
And Veyron!!!
@wowdogeful well I never knew any of that 🤯
no stupid screen in the middle is what makes it speical and timeless.
I love that they never put a big screen in the middle, just makes it that extra bit cooler to me and I assume collectors
Doug dished out $$ for a haircut on this one
Production costs are increasing
I like every R8, but OMG, this one is so sick!! The styling is truly amazing and it sounds so good as well.
Just got my GT this week! #203
11:10 I disagree I think the lack of a center screen has made it timeless. why clutter such a clean interior with a center display.
Great video Doug!! R.I.P to the R8 as it brought lots of memories of a supercar. Will there be a review of the 2023 Dodge Challenger Demon 170??😈
11:24 and that's a good thing becouse the car will age much beter then for exp any new mercedes
RIP Audi R8 (2008-2023)
It may be gone but it may be in the Museum to show this Lendardy Car
'WHAT A MACHINE'
Like the idea of the RWD, but hesitate to love, considering that Audi's AWD has been a feature they tend to do well and make useful.
A gated manual would have been amazing in this thing
This car doesn't need a center infotainment screen and the lack of one of those doesn't make an interior outdated. The interior is tasteful and built to age well. This car is a collector's item and an ugly screen in a car like this would be tacky. I prefer dials and buttons any day. I'm also glad this car has a cd player!
was hoping to see Doug announce that this R8 is the only one ever made and it is being sold on cars and bids
Some people dream of owning a Porsche or Ferrari, but this is the car I would like to own.
One of the most successful flagship cars in automotive history. It overnight brought audi out of realm of boring with the likes of Volvo.
So true. Audi was a snooze-fest and then I remember seeing Iron Man and the rest is history😂
The nice thing about this car is that you can actually see the engine, it’s not under a plastic shroud that only an engineer can access. You can access the engine. Just like how you used to be able to in all modern exotics. Most now have some sort of shroud like McLaren etc
We love the r8, sad to see it go 😢
Two things: !. Worth every USD. 2. That V-10 at 8,500 is worth the price of admission.
So much better without your friend! Keep this content up!
Same here. Darius sure picked a nice ride. The strongest nostalgia I feel is from playing Carbon and MW as a kid.
I had a ‘20 V10 Performance and it really was the best all around car I’ve ever owned. The guy that bought it from me assured me I’d be back in another one day. Unfortunately I have car ADD and change up cars every 6 months or so. Love the GT!!
Guys like you are great for the used car market. Keep taking that initial depreciation hit for us👍🏽
Personally like the style of the GT :)
Was in love with the R8 since the RSQ concept from iRobot back in 2004. Audi has always knocked it out of the park with design. The V10 heart was icing on the cake.
I like this car because it looks as good as cars that cost more money 😊 and I have to get a v10 because my gf has the v8 and my gti can’t keep up 😢
R8 has always been one of the most iconic cars as a kid
Doug is a type of a guy to smell his hand after the handshake
Doug the kind of guy to rob 123$ from BurgerKing the other Thursday night and following day buys a whooper at BurgerKing where he stole money from after repaying his cameraman.
It's heartbreaking they're having to end this model. Probably because of fuel economy
this and the final edition ttrs are both such great send off for these cars. i honestly think that their digital dash only will be looked back on positively as some of the last sports cars to not have 2 massive screens taking up the entire dash.
Eh a basic gps is a must
This is the Lambo that you take to the opera. So classy and understated. Absolutely beautiful car!
That paint color is sick, the reflections!
Last R8 😢😢😢😢
Mission Viejo is my home town ❤
Is it me or would it look better without the spoiler? I'm usually a fan of all spoilers because I love performance, just thinking it looks so smooth without it.
Looks like a Lambo now.
I propose "RS10" for the next gen so they can finally fix their lineup and naming scheme. A3/S3/RS3 through A8/S8/RS8. At the very top: RS10. Then you have your E-tron line.
I kinda like the door having the ac vents. Feels like it would blow air on you better if done right.
It just moves it closer to the individual, which limits the range of the vent.
The car looks mid Ngl
The "long line" badge near the glovebox (10:08) has a logical explanation. The niche it fits in is designed for the "quattro" badge. The phrase "RWD" is shorter by comparison, so the line is Audi's way of getting it to fit.
They should have said goodbye, with the V12 concept R8 version
This will depreciate pretty fast ngl
I still remember the first time I saw an Audi R8. It was 2008 and I was driving out to LA to check out the Museum of Tolerance and on my left hand side an R8 rolled by in the carpool lane all smooth. That car was good looking then and still good looking now.
I'm going to miss the Audi R8, especially the V10. Hopefully we at least get a hybrid V8 in the future.
My favorite is the facelifted Spyder version of the 1st generation. It looks so cool and with the roof down you hear the V10 sing.
