- We’ve got our hands on three glorious V10-powered R8s, and they’re about to go head-to-head over the quarter mile!
So let’s see how the three compare. Starting with the R8 V10 Performance, it’s powered by a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that can produce 570hp and 550Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1,590kg. If you’re looking to pick one up, it’ll cost around £132,000.
Then we have the R8 V10 Performance Spyder. It’s housing the same engine was the coupe, but power has been increased to 620hp and 580Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch, but as it’s the Spyder it’s the heaviest car here, weighing in at 1,695kg. The price is also up on the coupe, costing around £167,000.
But that price is nothing compared to the limited-edition R8 GT - the last fully petrol-powered R8 to ever be produced! It costs from £200,000, and only 15 of them are set to go on sale in the UK! However, it still comes with the same 5.2-litre V10 as the other cars, and the power output is almost identical to the Spyder, at 620hp and 565Nm! Power is sent to the rear wheels only, but it’s also the lightest car here, at 1,570kg.
So how will this one play out - will the all-new R8 snatch it? Or will the AWD performance of the Spyder power it to victory? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

The Spyder definitely had a disadvantage with the top down but great video as always. it also makes kinda kinda sad that these cars will be disappearing soon 😭
The Spyder has a minor performance letdown compared to the Coupe.

Agree, although if you are clever who supposed to buy an R8, Audi RWD performance is the best choice. The fact that it cost a lot cheaper than the 2. With these lack of power compare to the others. A tune up would be perfect to get the best out of it.
We can say that V10's era has been done for a long time. Perhaps these cars with V10's will just become a collectibles.

The R8 is a truly beautiful car. Its design is just perfectly balanced between massive "show-off" and understated. The best supercar!
Not quite the best but even though it’s getting old it still looks better than the rest.
R8,porsche 911,mercedes amg gt,but for me the best supercar its the porsche 911,and if it is a 911 turbo s you will beat the shit out of every supercar and also some hypercars,and its like 200.000+£,thats a hell of a price for the product!

@@badgasaurus4211 if you just want speed get a Tesla model S plaid. Goes from 0 to 300km/h in 14 seconds. A brand new 911 Turbo S goes from 0 to 300 km/h in 26 seconds.
Both have similar track times too, Tesla is faster on shorter tracks and they’re equal on longer tracks like the Nurburgring.

The RWD launch is actually incredible, it somehow keeps up with the quattro (at launch aerodynamics don’t play a part)
The launch of the 4WD R8 kinda reminded me to Audi TT LM. Absolute amazing.
It is not the extra weight, it is more the aero of being with roof opened and the power losses of being AWD instead of RWD

The RWD R8 is an absolute bargain. There are ECU tunes for these that get them up to 650HP. Because they're light and can make that kind of power with relatively decent weight, they become straight-line monsters.
This is what I did.. and quicker on the track..I did a kws suspension upgrade. I would say better then anything you can buy stock . Gt .pluss . Performance . Ect.
And a normal Coupe R8 V10 Performance would smoke them all, and so would a 2018 R8 V10 Plus ☺

@@Daniel-qz8bp And? An A45 AMG+ would kill an Porsche 997 Carrera in any Drag Race. But only one of these two is art. Even if an M5 would Kill an R8, its not in the same league. One is only a sedan with so turbos, the other is art. Winning and loosing in a drag race means nothing for a car.

Amazing incredible video as usual by carwow... i was wondering what would it be like if carwow invested in a high frame rate video camera for that finish line capture for a better looking photo finish. Hope you guys consider it, would be awsomeee.
Their Equipment is prolly capable of that but they have yo shoot it at 25fps for quality purposes

I think you need to start recording the braking test on your timing gear as theres no way you can all hit the brakes at he same time, good fun though 👍
They dont. They hit the brakes when they reach the line
@fale892 exactly, they all have to brake when they cross the line, but they are all guessing where the front of their car is relative to the line, a second early or late will make a difference.
Mat, I have to say. I have been an avid watcher of your videos and am a big fan from here in the US. I haven't laughed so hard watching a car video in a while. CarWow is my new Top Gear since the BBC destroyed it. The ability to inform and entertain is gift. Ke it coming.

Great drag race! Also in my opinion i think the 1st generation R8's did it right from the V8 model all the way to the R8 GT, actually being the modt extreme model. Not to mention the various special editons and such
Can someone explain why those r8's run the 1/4 in 11.3s when others can do mid 10? What models is the fastest r8 in the 1/4?
they never use dragys for the 1/4 mile or their brake tests. Their 1/4 mile times for every car they test are slower than any other channel gets by about half a second.
@@EAflies i know they're slower but by half a second that's a LOT imo,but that's not the question because even with dragys i saw some r8 do 11.0 while others can reach the 10.5 in pretty similar condition and tires,so the question what model is the fastest? And why?
@@ASTRODBoy the gt (white car) is the fastest. It should do 1/4 mile at around 11 seconds flat. I’ve seen them get horrible times in awd cars that other channels get a noticeably better time on even on unprepped surfaces…. But it could definitely be the shitty England weather.
@@ASTRODBoy a prepped surface might be the reason for a 10.5 1/4 mile or they can have the dragy set to retract the first foot (1 foot roll out), which is what a lot of people do when drag racing.
@@EAflies i did small research and i found out the V10 plus models are the one who do mid to low 10,and apparently r8 love cold weather, some v10 plus completely stock with just good (street) tire did 10.1 so the r8 gt is far from being the fastest, the V10 plus are based on what i found

Awd will always have some power loss compared to rwd , so will be a bit slower when accelerating from the roll
