Kraft talked about how he was a famous hero long-long time ago, but everyone forgot him. And he is religious because when he dies and goes to heaven he wants the goddess to pat him on his head and say "Well done, Kraft. You lived a fantastic life"

This is what Kraft meant when asking Frieren "And before that?". He is ancient and his deeds were long forgotten. Imagine living like this. So he found his escape in believing in The Goddess.

I think the main theme of this episode is that you can still make an impact and influence lives in the future, even after you are forgotten.
Old Man Voll's wife is the reason the village is safe many years after her passing,
and Kraft and his friend still inspire new generations of heroes even when their deeds themselves are unknown.

Kraft had said he had lived a "fantastic life" but that everyone who knew this and knew of him had died. He may have saved the world centurie, even millennia before, but had become a forgotten hero. It's a really interesting comment on the nature of history. So much of our own knowledge of the world is very recent and what we think we know of the past is based on very few sources. It's easy to be forgotten.

Statue of Kraft is made of stone while Himmel's party is bronze. Shows two very different era, seperated by several millennia.
Kraft being ancient AF was not an exaggeration.

Depends on just when the Era of Mythology happened. If Kraft was around for it then it raises questions of why he would have not believed in the Goddess. Plus the other statue is recognized as a Priest class, a class that we know didn't exist before the Goddess provided the scriptures.
      Spoiler
For reference, we are told in a later arc that the scriptures originate 1,600 years ago, meaning those statues are probably younger than that. Kraft could conceivable still call Frieren young even if he was less than six hundred years older than her, as that is still around half her life.

i love the first part of this episode with Voll, so good, this anime really is amazing in the way it manages to build up connections and emotions with a characters that has 10 minutes of screen time.

0:30 That's just the Next Episode Preview. Every episode has the voice montage at the end with voice clips from the next episode. The only difference last episode was that there wasn't an end credits sequence, so it happened right after the end of the episode so you noticed it, rather than after the credits where you haven't noticed it.

Old Man Voll might’ve mixed his memories from the past to present upon conversing with Frieren. But it might also because the Old Man has dementia, kind of Thena’s Mahd Wy’ry, but it doesn’t make him mad or something. Just his memory has jumbled due to old age.
Yes, Kraft is definitely the ancient hero. He’s the fighter of the duo, remember. But because the Kraft’s priest friend is human, he carried the teachings of his friend because no one would’ve carry it aside for himself. And he’s older than Frieren, maybe he’s friends with the other “great mage” you’ll soon meet. Take note of the title “great mage” it isn’t just something that is given to mages. So it’s way more different than First Class mages.

Being a hero in a time of peace is all about the sidequests. Demon King or no, everyone still needs a little help here and there.

The statues confirm that Kraft is really really old, as he was a forgotten ancient hero. Freiren has also been around for a long time, but Kraft still said that she is really young. I would love to see just how strong he actually is

    • @Ryodraco
      @Ryodraco 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Let's not exaggerate, he said Frieren was young, not "very young" and also said that both he and Frieren had lived for a long time.

Later info in the series implies Kraft may be less than six hundred years older than Frieren.

@@Ryodraco still he is really old, was able to change his “class” and be considered a hero before he changed it, meaning he must have a lot of knowledge about combat and be quite strong

I don't think Old Man Vol knows about the Demon King's demise. He's been defending this village for maybe 200+ years and that has not changed. He's was still fighting off monsters 80 years ago, and he still is now.
Remember back when the group met Kraft? When Frieren was introduced as a member who defeated the Demon King, he was curious what she'd done before. He's likely obscenely old, to the point where he's had time to stop being a hero and become a monk as nobody knows about his stories.
