I’m so excited about this one guys… 💖🥹 I had no idea what I was getting myself into 😭 and whoa… I hope you enjoy going on this journey with me! Let me know your thoughts on Frieren down below ✨
My favorite anime that came out last year. And one of my favorite series just in general. it has great atmosphere that really pulls me in as if I'm part of the story/living in their world too(prolly sounds weird if we're not on the same page here lmao). also the dialogues really just feels natural to me, considering how most anime can be over-the-top. overall, it's a great breath of fresh air for me. can't wait for more uploads to come 😂❤
Very true, but it does have it's "Shonen-moments" every once in a while... all the more awesome because it's not all-the-time and over-done. Can't wait to keep watching!
I've been watchi g anime for almost 40 years and "New Gen Anime" is the most insulted I've felt as a fan. You're so disrespectful. This isvANIME. Like everything before was. The fact you like it is irrelivent. You're a tourist.
The first 4 episodes of _Frieren_ are meant to be watched together. They were broadcast in Japan as a mini movie. Edit: Have tissues ready. This show has a talent of compelling tears to spontaneously flow, often without warning.
10:40 "I wanted to learn more about him." I love the fact you said this. It is *precisely* what the show is going for. It's how Frieren herself feels about Himmel.
This anime takes my cold dead heart out back, beats the heck out of it, shows it a world of wonder, then feeds it some warm soup. It's a weird relationship. Cannot wait for season 2.
After experiencing JJK I feel like Frieren is actually really good for her. Very different change of pace, and overall vibe of the show. I LOVED it, hope you enjoy!
I just recently discovered your channel. I have finished watching Frieren and watching it again makes me more sad and empty knowing the story between Frieren and Himmel 😥
I think what makes this anime so special is the intimacy. What I mean by that is the soft tone of their voices, the tenderness and playful teasing they give one another, but also the honesty they express. The music simply adds to the atmosphere, its whimsical fluidity, its dynamic crescendos, and its beautiful solos. The artistry is fantastic as well, the vibrant colors and shading make the world look so lively, but also lived in. It doesn’t matter how many times I watch that meteor shower, I will tear up every time. Because it’s simply living in the moment. It’s so human.
Frieren is easily my #1 favorite anime of all time. Not too many shows convey emotion and subtlety as well as this, and fewer still perform at the same levels of "show and not tell". I'll be heading on over to your Patreon now lol
Fine. I'll sub - but only because your emotions seem genuine and I wanna see ALL the tears of joy and heartache you'll be dropping. There's one episode in particular (no spoilers) that I'm looking forward to seeing you gush with happiness and heartache, and to hearing you scream at Frieren like, "GIRL, WTF!?!?" - enjoy traveling with our semi-stoic little elf. がんばって!!! ✊✊✊
This isn't just peak anime, it's peak story telling. I've never been so emotionally affected by something as I was Frieren. It's pure joy and beauty refined into 23 min morsels of sheer brilliance.
Really enjoyed the show, especially the vibes it give and the humor. Dunno if anyone mentioned it already but most character's names are actual German words: Frieren = to freeze or to be cold Himmel = heaven Heiter = cheerful (person) or clear (sky) Eisen = iron Fern = far (away)
This is such a strangely appealing animé. I'm only at episode 5 but it's SOOO calming. My favorite manga is Samurai Deeper Kyo, and this is a total opposite of that. The mix of melancholy and comedy is perfect. And I always wonder what happens to my characters after I finish an RPG.
First of all, I don't understand English so I apologize if my English is a bit weird. This anime is beautiful, has gags, and it's a sad anime. I'm sure you know this, but even with English subtitles, names of people and places are in German. Also, this is a work that places more importance on inner feelings than flashiness. Also, this anime places great importance on the dialogue, and it's full of great quotes. Every single episode is good, and it's rare to see such a good story even in the build-up episodes, and especially the 27th episode is exceptionally good. sousou no Frieren (English title: Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) was broadcast in Japan on a program called Friday Road Show in four episodes. From the first episode to the fourth episode, it is a prologue. Also, the meaning is different in the English title, sousou no Frieren. Sousou means "funeral" and refers to saying your final farewell to the dead and sending them off to the crematorium or cemetery. This has a double meaning as it is used not only for allies but also for enemy demons. Also, YOASOBI's OP has an English version called "The Brave". Please give it a listen if you like.
Frieren is a slow burner, it is beautiful but it's beauty is elsewhere. It is subtle, gentle and really puts in perspective how short human lives are and how precious the time we spend with each other is. All of a sudden I want to binge again the show.
A curious fact: Both Frieren and Anya Forger from Spy X Family share the same japanese voice actress, Atsumi Tanezaki. When Frieren talks more softly sometimes you can hear a similar voice tone that the one she uses when she voices Anya. In future episodes you will see some facial expresions from her that could be consider a reference to some of the faces that Anya will do in future episodes in Spy X Family. The opening is called "Yuusha" or "Brave" by YOASOBI and the ending is called "Anytime, Anywhere" by Milet. Both have a full music video on TH-cam so you should listen the full opening first. Before listening Milet´s full song with the lyrics you will need to reach episode 17 because from episode 1 to 16 the show uses the first half of the song and from episode 17 to 28 uses the second half.
13:15 Yes, the music is so good that multiple people were making covers of the new songs every time an episode came out. It was so popular that they did a pre-release of the soundtrack for people to buy :P
Frieren has quickly become one of my favorite anime of all time. The setting, the characters, the art, the animation, the music just everything is just perfection. This anime will go down in history, absolute masterpiece
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Sousou no Frieren! I hope you really enjoy this anime series! A lot of modern Japanese fantasy is tailored after the Lord of the Rings. Frieren is very Tokeinesque, so Elves are nearly immortal, Dwarves live a few hundred years and humans 70-90 years. Just a few things if no one else has mentioned it; this anime is really about paying attention to little details, as small things make emotional impacts later in series. For instance, the reason why Frieren buys a hair clip in Episode 3 that had a butterfly design was because in Episode 2 the first time Fern showed Heiter her magic, she made an illusion of glowing butterflies. You DO learn why Frieren has a habit of collecting spells, and it all starts with her master, who is revealed in Episode 4 and you learn way more about her in the penultimate mid-season episode 10. There is speculation that since Priests are the only ones who can effectively use holy magic (dispelling and resisting curses, casting holy affinity offensive magic, blessings and healing) that they are also granted longer lives than normal. Some people even say that Heiter passed away when he was over 100. Every name in Frieren is a German word and they have meaning. There is a school of thought that this whole story is Frieren's reminiscence, since people are named for concepts that encapsulates a memory/impression, rather than normal German names. Frieren - Freezing - it's speculated that Frieren's emotional state was frozen by tragedy revealed in Episode 10, and that her master was instrumental in thawing her, culminating in meeting with her friends. Another interpretation is that Frieren's relational state was frozen, an her time with Fern will continue the change in her that her time with Himmel did. Himmel - Sky or Heaven - pay attention to the times they show the Sky, as it almost always refers to Himmel or the memory of him Heiter - Jolly - Heiter is shown in future flashbacks as deflecting difficult emotional stress with humour or self-deprecation. Eisen - Iron - a great name for one of the strongest warriors in history Fern - Remote or distant Stark - Strong Flamme - Flame - The founder of Human Magic, Frieren's human Master. Potentially named for the Promethean legend, the giant who taught the gift of fire to humans (technology & civilization) in Greek mythology, but also for setting Frieren on the path to thawing her heart. Notice that the way time is marked in the anime is based on Himmel's death (such as "20 years after the Death of Himmel the Hero.") It's not certain if this is universal or how Frieren marks her time. Frieren recently toppled FullMetal Alchemist from the top spot on MyAnimeList (MAL), where it had sat for more than a decade. Both are Shonen manga that start with loss. Both are praised for excellent characterization, complex and nuanced issues, delicate handling of plot, emotional intensity and touching sentimentalism. Lastly, the series is named "Sousou no Frieren." While this has often been translated as "Frieren The Slayer" that is INCORRECT. "Sousou no" is the act of "sending off" as in a funeral. This has more than one meaning, but the two most common interpretations is that we learn that Elves in Frieren are essentially immortal, so Frieren will eventually "send off" all her non-elven friends. The second meaning is to "see someone off" is also a euphemism for killing and is Frieren is first identified by a demon as the titular character in Episode 8.
one thing I do love watching Frieren is the author try to describe things by using Frieren's perspective, like the 50 yrs to Frieren in ep1 just like what we experienced the 15 minutes in the episode. For Frieren, the 50 yrs or 10 yrs being with Himmel was too short to know more about him just like we(the audience) do. I appreciate this arrangement of watching experience that the author and animation did for us.
I never have a thought to watch Frieren honestly, maybe because I watched too much actions anime with so much tense like AOT, JJK, and Demon Slayer, so a show with magic theme doesn't really appealing to me for now. Who would have thought watching this through your reaction video made me want to watch this show too 😁
Flexie you are watching the best anime ever exist lol im being biased 😂😂😂 but no seriously this is definitely one the best new anime that come out and hopefully it wins anime of the year ❤
YESSSS ! I’m so excited to see your reactions about Frieren ! You will absolutely love it ! For my part, this show reflect so much of humanity, it’s just heart warming and a pleasure to always rewatch it ! Good watching ! Thanks you !
Himmel is best boi, but Stark is so strong but goofy, he's me if I was anime. lmao This show is doing something to me, I started it recently. I love every episode. My emotions...my emotionssssss.
I’m super into watching your channel.i use to study English watching your video.your English pronunciation is easy to understand.its one of my favorite movie!this work is so insane!最近あなたのTH-camを見てます。日本のアニメを楽しんでね
You are gonna love every single second of this show if episode 1 has got you crying. It has absolutely heartbreaking moments, wholesome moments, sometimes both at the same time, and a lot of humor later on as well. There are tons of little things to pick up on, from gestures to recurring dialogues that call back to Frieren's legendary adventure, they are easier to spot on the second watch. The music by Evan Call is also available online and absolutely fantastic, I've had every song on repeat for ages now. This show is perfect and season 2 can't come soon enough.
Ive watched anime all my life. I can say this might be the best first season of any series ive ever watched! The writing is amazing and the pacing is so good and unique.
One of the best feel-good anime’s ever!! Amazing characters, music, story and animation. Enjoy this journey!! And pay close attention to the way Frieren remembers Himmel ❤️.
Thanks for the video! This anime is the pinnacle of anime art, simply a complete package that could hardly be better. It's almost sad, because I don't know how it could get any better!
This show, took me by surprise and made the tears flow. I can’t describe it any better than this: This show gives you pangs of regret, an acceptance of mortality and nostalgia for things and times gone by. When I was young I thought that immortality would be sweet for endless time in my life. Now, I only want time to be with those I love and to keep my mind sharp enough to always remember them when the end comes. Please keep watching this show. You won’t regret it. May we all go like Himmel. One last adventure with those we cherish, so that we may close our eyes with a smile on our face.
I am so glad you are going to watch this anime!! I love it so much!! You are going to need tissues for almost every episode!! I am not crying i am sweating from my eyes!! Best wishes and much love always Flexie sweetie!! 🙂❤
I ugly cried the first time I watched this and it still gets me every rewatch. It's part of the experience IMO so there's no need to hold back. This show is like the meteor shower in this episode. You can only experience it for the first time once. I can't remember a show as impactful in the last 20 years, except maybe Naruto, but that story was told over hundreds of episodes. You're getting a uniquely condensed version of that and it hits different.
Very good timing! ! Is this just a coincidence? Frieren and Anya. Atsumi Tanezaki, who plays two completely different characters, is at a really high level. By the way, Frieren's voice is a natural voice. It's impossible, but I'd like to see Frieren get excited and say "WAKU! WAKU!" at least once.
I am very happy that you, my favorite Reactor, have finally taken up this work that I love so much. I look forward to reviewing it with you until the end.
I'm sooooo happy you are able to connect with it. This anime means so much to me and I'm always happy when there is a reactor, with whom I can live through it once more!
Glad to see you reacting to this gem of an anime. It surprised me as well, when I started watching it. I did not think it was going to be as incredible as it was. Frieren has some of the best writing in any anime that I have ever seen. The characters, the story, the world, the pacing... all impeccable. You're gonna have fun with this one.
This first episode is very much like the opening for the movie UP. It's amazing how they are able to get us connected with the hero's party and Himmel so quickly before he dies. Frieren didn't take on Fern as an apprentice. She's translating the book for Heiter and teaching Fern a little more while she does.
Little tip: the show is not action centric but dialogue, so just keep that in mind. Also, just bc its not action anime doesn't mean its fight scenes arent top tier lol Another note: himmel and bakugo same VA 😂
Look... I'm a forty years old man, I've watch and read a lot anime and manga, I mean a lot! I can easily tell you that Sousou no Frieren is one of my top 3 favorite anime. Everything is good about it! And I too did had a tears rolling on my check when Frieren started to cry and I'me not ashame of it!
Crunchyroll actually lied to everyone. This isn't episode 1, this is 1/4 of episode 1. Episode 1 was almost 2 hours long to rival Oshi no Ko's episode 1. Crunchyroll did the same thing to Re:Zero's episode 1, which was the length of 2 episodes. If you try to compare the Japanese episode numbers to the English, it gets confusing.
PEAK anime, i love this, you will enjoy this show for sure :D I've already watched the series several times, between myself and accompanying the reactors and always... every time I watch the first episode of this anime, I burst into tears.....
From OP to Evan Call's magical OST to ED to VAs to pacing to use of flashbacks to "show don't tell" storying telling to the animation that goes above and beyond. All 10/10. Enjoy the ride. Subbed now.
I almost missed this anime. When it came out, I didn't even think about watching it because I thought it would be the story of an elf watching everyone she loves die over time. But it turns out that it's a much bigger story than that.
This anime was really a nice break with shonen anime, pure wholesomeness with great soundtrack. I felt at peace watching the whole season! Time to rewatch this with you.🫡
I legit cried every episode lol. This show hit me way harder than i expected it to. It really opened my eyes to the time i have been wasting in my life the opportunities i've missed. Time doesnt stop for any of us. Best we keep our pace, and keep moving forward.
Glad you got around to Frieren, what an anime it is. Might be my all time favorite, easily the best in recent memory. A beautiful story utilising traditional storytelling and eternal themes of love, companionship, adventure and time. And as a cherry on top to the brilliant pacing and writing, the visuals and the music fill in the rest. During the episodes you are sure to get a lot of comments of little details they planted in the earlier episodes that are such fulfilling revelations when you realise the attention to detail. And those make the series worth a second watch also. So heres to a beautiful journey 🙂
Buckle up it's going to be an emotionally bumpy but utterly amazing ride. BTW all the time stamps in this show are dated from Himmel's death. Finally yes tissues and possibly waterproof eye makeup might be recommended.

Himmel, ladies and gentlemen
Himmel is truly HIM. The GOAT.
Don't forget he also inspired others to be heroes too.
Honestly, the show might be called Frieren, but its all about the effect Himmel had on other peoples lives.
Truly an incredible character.
"FUCKING DIES." 💀
This is my favorite new gen anime by far. It’s a lot more about character development and growth than it is action and plot, it’s super wholesome.
Very true, but it does have it's "Shonen-moments" every once in a while... all the more awesome because it's not all-the-time and over-done.

The second meaning is to "see someone off" is also a euphemism for killing and is Frieren is first identified by a demon as the titular character in Episode 8.
😨 whoa - amazing comment - I will come back to it later in my journey of this series lol
"I wanted to learn more about him"
Yeah exactly
If you like frieren, you'd absolutely LOVE to your eternity
one thing I do love watching Frieren is the author try to describe things by using Frieren's perspective, like the 50 yrs to Frieren in ep1 just like what we experienced the 15 minutes in the episode. For Frieren, the 50 yrs or 10 yrs being with Himmel was too short to know more about him just like we(the audience) do. I appreciate this arrangement of watching experience that the author and animation did for us.
I've watched the first episode at least 20 times by now, between rewatches and reactions.
I cry every time.
That's a beautiful Anime, greetings from Chile!
"I want to learn more about Himmel" well oh boy have I got an anime for you
This series is a little gem, the soothing music, VA's and story are incredible. Nice little slice of life type show.
I never have a thought to watch Frieren honestly, maybe because I watched too much actions anime with so much tense like AOT, JJK, and Demon Slayer, so a show with magic theme doesn't really appealing to me for now. Who would have thought watching this through your reaction video made me want to watch this show too 😁
Flexie you are watching the best anime ever exist lol im being biased 😂😂😂 but no seriously this is definitely one the best new anime that come out and hopefully it wins anime of the year ❤
This quickly became my favorite anime of all time. So heartfelt, with in depth characters and great world building. It's beautiful.
world building is actually very poor and the world feels really fake.
YESSSS ! I’m so excited to see your reactions about Frieren ! You will absolutely love it ! For my part, this show reflect so much of humanity, it’s just heart warming and a pleasure to always rewatch it !
Good watching !
Thanks you !
LM Reactions & Flexie both started Frieren on same day lol what a coincidence.
Himmel is best boi, but Stark is so strong but goofy, he's me if I was anime. lmao
This show is doing something to me, I started it recently.
Finally you watch frieren 😭, can't wait more upload frieren, every day please 😊
Omg what a journey you’re embarking on.
What an amazing beautiful first reaction. Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you for sharing 😊
Glad she’s on this journey.
16:50 i am not crying, its hot outside and my eyes are sweating.
Frieren is one of the most well made shows ive watched, the first 3 or 4 episodes made me tear up lmao. Its an awesome show cant wait to see more!
Eeeeyyyyyyy I mentioned to watch this a while ago on ur vid. It's kinda slow start but it's soo great.
Been waiting on this one, more than any other since JJK
I am very happy that you, my favorite Reactor, have finally taken up this work that I love so much.
I look forward to reviewing it with you until the end.
Just found your channel and your personality is bright and wholesome. I'm very glad yt knows my people😌
Oooh! 'm so glad, thank you for being here x
I've already watched this show and I've cried again seeing you watch it for the first time. One of the best animes I've watched recently
I'm sooooo happy you are able to connect with it. This anime means so much to me and I'm always happy when there is a reactor, with whom I can live through it once more!
Don’t hold back, if you feel like sobbing just let it out. Raw emotion is beautiful.
I expect Hieter planned it that way.
Little tip: the show is not action centric but dialogue, so just keep that in mind. Also, just bc its not action anime doesn't mean its fight scenes arent top tier lol
Another note: himmel and bakugo same VA 😂
I was gonna say some of the action in this season goes hard!
I love Frieren so so so much. I'm so glad I gave it a shot
3:55 “She’s a MAGE!” And she’s aMAGing! ^_^
Carlos!!
You're gonna absolutely love this show! it came out of no where and its hands down one of my favorite stories, hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I love your videos. Thanks for sharing!
From OP to Evan Call's magical OST to ED to VAs to pacing to use of flashbacks to "show don't tell" storying telling to the animation that goes above and beyond. All 10/10. Enjoy the ride. Subbed now.
yeeeey 🎉🎉🎉🎉 excited for this reaction
Love Frieren, the perfect calm in between all the chaos❤ you'll definitely enjoy this one
Welcome to Frieren. It hits like a truck, definitely keep tissue available
I almost missed this anime.
When it came out, I didn't even think about watching it because I thought it would be the story of an elf watching everyone she loves die over time.
But it turns out that it's a much bigger story than that.
Let's gooooo!!! Of all the animes that came out recently, Frieren is my favorite
This anime was really a nice break with shonen anime, pure wholesomeness with great soundtrack. I felt at peace watching the whole season! Time to rewatch this with you.🫡
フリーレンのリアクション待ってましたあ😭😭
ありがとう〜❤
I legit cried every episode lol. This show hit me way harder than i expected it to. It really opened my eyes to the time i have been wasting in my life the opportunities i've missed. Time doesnt stop for any of us. Best we keep our pace, and keep moving forward.
Here we go! Off to another adventure!
Truly an amazing show! ❤❤❤
Congratulations, you just landed on the best anime of all time.
Dont worry we all cried
数十年ぶりに漫画を買い揃えた作品😌
疲れている時に読むと心が安らぐ🌱
Glad you got around to Frieren, what an anime it is. Might be my all time favorite, easily the best in recent memory. A beautiful story utilising traditional storytelling and eternal themes of love, companionship, adventure and time. And as a cherry on top to the brilliant pacing and writing, the visuals and the music fill in the rest. During the episodes you are sure to get a lot of comments of little details they planted in the earlier episodes that are such fulfilling revelations when you realise the attention to detail. And those make the series worth a second watch also.
So heres to a beautiful journey 🙂
after you watch half season or until the opening song changed you should hear and read the lyrics of opening 1 yoasobi yusha/the brave full song 😊
Buckle up it's going to be an emotionally bumpy but utterly amazing ride. BTW all the time stamps in this show are dated from Himmel's death. Finally yes tissues and possibly waterproof eye makeup might be recommended.
