    Modern bike reviews: Where can I put my iphone and MP3 player?
    Old time bike reviews: More grunt than a commercial piggery.
    Don't necessarily like the wide tyres, but have booked a three hour test ride.
    Most riders do not understand the difference between brake horsepower (ps) and torque.
    If this beast can put the power to the ground, I will buy one as a seventieth birthday present to myself. You only live once.

    I had the pleasure of taking out one of the first gen R3s for an afternoon while my Speed Triple was in for service, and even that one at the time (back in 2006) was amazing. The torque is incredible. It just feels like you could leave it in third and never even need to shift. Roll on power was addictive to say the least. It also didn't feel nearly as heavy as the specs suggest. The weight is carried very low, and is pretty easy to manage at parking lot speeds. Certainly easier to ride than a big twin Harley as far as weight and balance goes (not that the Harley is bad by any means). My favorite part though is that when you blip the throttle, the bike rocks side to side under you due to the massive crank and the longitudinal mounted engine. Just feels like raw power. My next bike will UNDOUBTEDLY be the new R3 roadster.

    Well, havent ridden a bike for years, last one I had was a Yamaha XS1100, so yeah aint no spring chicken any more... but looking at that beast one is tempted to get into the saddle again. The tank just gets smaller! 19 litres in other reviews. Now 18. I guess it will be enough to get you from one fill up to the next. Will be interesting to see what the real world range is in time. It does look awesome though so perhaps a thimble of fuel will suffice...

    So when I get my multi million pound lottery win, can afford a big house with a double garage, and can fill it up with say 8 bikes and an Ariel Atom car, a Triumph Rocket would be bike number eight , after (1). Speed Twin (2) Speed Triple (3) Ducati Panigale (4) Norton Commando 961 (5) Triumph Tiger 1200 (6) 1954 -> 1956 classic Triumph Tiger 110 (7) classic 1970s Norton Commando 750
    If it did make it as bike number 8, I guess I'd have it super charged, hopefully get more power than a Kawasaki H2R, and try drag racing :)
    But in the meantime, back in the real world , I would like a ride of one , but Triumph aren't going to be selling me one anytime soon. Guess I need to buy the lottery ticket ...

  • @oja7561
    @oja7561 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a hd breakout. Had a fat bob before that. The rocket looks awesome. No heavier but more power and more lean angle, which let’s face it, is crap on hd. I’d buy one. The thing with hd is they’re fun to burble along bc the torque is so low down, ie 1500rpm. These euro cruisers often have the ‘look’ but their engines are revvier which is not necessarily a good thing because they often end up like confused low slung sportsbikes.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The power and heft bode well for touring but how is it on fuel? Sounds like 25-35 real world to me. Closer to 25 with me riding it and that's a pretty thirsty tourer.

    Thx for clarifying that, I didn't know.
    Some how! I've always seen the Triumph as the Bad Boy & BSA the Boy next door, hence the title Trident sounds a bit more "Loud Mouth" with Rocket3 a little "Subtle"
    I guess one could deem it masculine & feminine, if we can still say that in this day and age.
    Anyway just my opinion.
    Cheers.

    This is still too heavy, although it's low-slung. I rode the old Roadster and it felt a lot lighter than it was. This may feel quite nimble. 18-litre fuel tank is to keep the weight down.
    I wonder whether it will be reliable. If I was ten years younger, I'd buy one.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems like they've made some moves to make the clutch and gearbox more reliable. Could be worth waiting a year or two to find out though. That said, although it looks pretty different it actually has a lot in common with the old bike so hopefully there won't be any major problems.

      @@georgeR3Roadster Hey George, so you have 70 years of experience, I'm 71, 2 months shy of 72 and going to ride till I'm 120 if I make it till then. If motorcycling is part of who you really are, then shake off that accident (learn from it) put your big boy pants back on, ask your loving wife to take your testicles out of her purse and give them back to you, cause your man is BACK and get out there and ride. I ride a 2018 H-D Heritage 114 and it is awesome V-twin and does what a R3T would do only as a twin cylinder, I believe I would like the new Rocket GT model for long distance touring, with rider backrest and a real windscreen for 8-10 hour days in the saddle. Back in the day, used to have a 750 Norton Commando, so of course I'm naturally drawn to the Thruxton for "spirited" rides to keep the "mojo" alive in oneself.

    Get BMW to make a DAKAR style tank for the touring version like the 32 litre one on my R80GS. Alternatively, a Ural outfit with a Petrol tank in the side-car - that should hold a bit. Outfit and Rocket connected by Bluetooth communication system.
    Electric powered Rocket in the wings?

  • @colingoldthorpe5918

    I think a lot of us were expecting more from the GT model. The passenger seat and backrest is a joke and soft luggage is even worse. No cowling for the front and an 18 LT fuel tank is hardly a touring bike in north America. Hopefully they come out with a proper touring model like the last model that can take on the HD touring bikes. After an hour in the saddle wind pounding you all day it won't take long to get frustrated with this bike. Thank god i bought the Trophy SE or I would have to have spent my $23K on a BMW, which is slowly looking like the only option available for sport touring. Yep this bike looks fantastic, but not too practical to cover distance with a pillion and luggage.

    The TFT is just too small, too tight... for the time they took to built this should have put some more effort to develop something a bit more distinctive; the rest looks fine; I would question the need to invest in bugger engine as the 2.3L is already the biggest on the parking lot- i got it, want to have top power bike, but arent there other ways to bump up the pwr??? I am upgrading to new exhaust and air filter and power is up 13hp already... For over 15Y on the road, thy could develop a nice overhaul of the engine. Other then that, the new bike is up to date with the competition(which put on the market the new extras as clutch, cc, remote start and etc some 4y ago). Good job over all...

Are you not tempted to return, now with reduced weight, improved suspension and handling, adjustable pegs, etc..? Seems they did everything right with this redesign. PS- if pegs are already adjustable- I'm sure a bracket and linkage to push pegs even further forward another inch or two is in my future. (design and 3D modeling NOT a problem for me). I need FORWARD pegs to stay comfortable too. Do you see the redesign as lighter, better handling, with more accommodating ergos? Tks
