      you can find and filter out the high tone(s) with audacity. i do this when someone posts something i really want to watch but has high pitched noise
      0. download the video as an mp3 or mp4 (e.g. google download youtube mp3)
      1. import the audio (you can drag in a video file as well) into audacity
      2. choose a portion of audio where the high tone occurs
      3. analyse -> plot spectrum -> size: 65536 -> hover mouse over spectrum to find the high pitched noise
      4. select the all of the audio
      5. effect -> notch filter -> input the troublesome frequency -> Q value of 5 is fine -> ok
      6. repeat step 5 for other frequencies if present
      7. sync up the audio and watch the vid
      this video has peaks at 5000 and 8635 hz

    Thanks for the video. I actually own a TFC version of this. Used to have an XDiavel. Couldn’t agree more with your comments about feet forward - it’s a real pain in the ass, literally. Riding position on the TFC is perfect for me at 6ft 2. Not so energised as everybody else about the fuel cap - I mean, it’s a fuel cap.... Not bothered about the range personally, although you can’t fill it up without people coming over wanting to talk to you about it - I’ve had a lot of nice bikes, but never one that caused so much attention as this. No issues with the TFT - there’s too many features need to be accessed if it doesn’t have one. I’m fine with the sound - not into noisy bikes. For the pricing - I don’t think anyone spending 25k on a bike is that motivated by price one way or the other. If you’re not sure if you can afford it or not, you can’t. I didn’t find it an issue to move around, but I am quite big. Shaft drive is great, chain on my Diavel was a pain, and I never trusted the belt on my XDiavel really. Thanks again.

    Personally I hate all these flat TFT iPad looking screens on bikes, well done to Triumph for making something different and usable that doesn't follow the sheep! We ride bikes, we don't need computer programmes to tell us how we are doing! Love your reviews TMF, always a few too many personal opinions for me, but your just been honest, so fair play! The only only real problem I see from your video is tank range (extra bottle of fuel on bike when I go touring will sort that out) and the weight is slightly less than my bike now!
    Thanks for taking the time to show us.

    Keyless ignition is a big plus on any motorcycle. There is enough hassle with protective clothing, helmet, luggage, making sure everything else is secure, etc., so starting up and leaving the bike without the need to retrieve your key from its safe place is a significant advantage.

    I had a test ride of one of these today. It is an awesome bike.
    I found the low speed handling a bit more difficult than my Speed Twin. I guess a test ride longer than 1 hour, and a few more mini roundabouts to practice on and I'd have been fine. I must have looked like a new rider doing their CBT. Once above 10 ish MPH, and on long sweeping twisties it was brilliant. Not as flickable as a Street Triple, but then that is around 1/2 the weight !
    The acceleration was breath taking, I'd like a go on a drag strip.
    I think it would make an awesome drag bike.
    I didn't try pushing it around, I was too worried about dropping the dealers bike, and that looks hard, as you say.
    I rode the GT version with cruiser forward pegs. I found this pretty comfortable. Maybe I just rode on well tarmaced roads, I found it more comfortable than my Speed Twin or Street Triple.
    The issue I had with forward pegs is my feet are trained for the pegs on the Speed Twin, so pulling away my feet would be dangling in mid air hunting for the pegs, until I remembered !
    Do I still love it ? yes. Do I still want one ? yes. Would I currently swap my Speed Twin and Street Triple for one ? no. This would still be bike No. 3 for me, maybe No. 4. I just need a house with a garage ( and not my twisty path arrangement of parking bikes in a very secure log shed that is up a ramp ) and a spare £20K . Oh Hum !
    I felt a bit like the Terminator, and a bit of a "poser" when riding it. Triumph might sell me one in a couple of years time :)

    Re: GS Hill-Hold. Note is can also be dis-engaged by another hard pull on the brake lever. This is my preferred method on the RT. Pull once to engage, then repeat. The issue I have with the Rocket 3 in addition to your observations, having ridden it recently, is the unfinished nature of the rear. What's up with a proper mudguard? A styling trend that is entirely negative in terms of usefulness and seems to be propagating with every OEM. Thanks for the great reviews!

    • @chrisgraham5186
      @chrisgraham5186 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hear, hear, Chris… as far as the rear (nearly) mudguard goes. Surely if it's a 'premium' bike, they can afford another foot of plastic to fill in the ugly gap. It spoils what could be a great looking bike. It's one area where the original R3 was streets ahead.

    I could not disagree more, this is an everyday bike (the GT version) and I have put 6000 miles on mine since late January. The seat is actually way more comfy on a long ride than the seat on my 15 Touring. Long rides or short it elicits a great big grin on every ride. If I could only have one bike this would be the one, hardly a garage queen.

      @@amphibdriver1 just finished a 1700 mile trip taking three nights and four days. Nothing impressive like an Iron Butt run or something but the Rocket is very comfortable and I had no problem carrying enough gear. The bonus being whenever we hit the twisties the other cruisers couldn’t come close to keeping up. I can ride easily ride at 80 until its time to get some gas, which was in our longest single leg about 170 miles. But if you are having some fun going way over 80 you will have to stop way sooner for gas, lol.

    Appreciate the way you filmed the oil leak under the engine at the start. Classic Triumph.

  • @brentbartley6838
    @brentbartley6838 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    We got about 6-8 of these at my dealership. Did uncrate and pre-delivery on most of those. We had 2 or 3 with oil leaks from the drain bolts underneath (3 drain bolts on the engine) and one came back in for break in service with one of the engine seals leaking. Not design issues but lack of quality control during assembly, not torquing bolts to spec. Also had a couple bolts on the radiator guards fall out on one of the demos.
    But I loved taking them on their first test rides. Torque for days, handle well when moving. Handle bars are too wide for my taste but needed for that fat front tire. They are a pain to move when pushing them around by hand. Not as bad as a BMW K1600 but still hefty bikes.
    If I was in the market for this type of bike R3, Diavel, VMax etc) I'd take the Rocket. And I'd take it over any and all Harleys. But I'd take a Grom over a Harley.

      Shouldn’t the dealership check all the bolts before delivery

    • @stevec6427
      @stevec6427 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bolts not torqued correctly is usually due to inconsistent lubrication when fitting bolts. Using a lubricant on a bolt reduces the torque setting to achieve the correct tension on the thread which ultimately is what matters. I saw it a lot in automotive manufacturing.

    AC Cobra is bang on with this. Gorgeous in many ways. It has many plusses and looks very art deco - single sided swing arm, wiring in the handlebars and shaft drive. But the bike could have been great, unfortunately, they have let it down with cheap trim: the hideous out-of-character swatch-watch-like TFT - two dials like the speed twin, please. Next, the over use of the gray-silver plastic trim on the rad, in front of the lower forks dominates the eye, followed by the gas cap, like you mention, and the reappearance of the plastic trim below the seat. However, some of those negatives could be changed with aftermarket which will no doubt blossom as the bike becomes more popular. Great vid, TMF. Thanks.

    I'm glad you were able to review the bike. I left a comment some months back asking if you would review the Rocket. I will never own this motorcycle but I wish they did something with those bug-egged headlights. I wish they made them more oval-shaped like the Speed Triple's headlights. I also thought it would sound a lot more meaner than it does.

    I wouldn’t worry about the discolouring on the pipes they look like they’re the same finish as the headers on my bobber and they come up great with regular applications of Autosol and elbow grease. Talking of the bobber one of the main criticisms when it came out was size of the 9litre tank. Now on a long steady run I can easy get 70mpg out of the bobber, which gives it the same range as the Rocket with its 18litre tank doing 35mpg! 🤣

      The tail/rear end just looks so "off" to me. It looks like the seat has been shortened cafe style and an extended swing arm installed. Just something not so fluid about it (plus that center wheel mud guard is off putting.
      Mind that, I think it looks great... but that exhaust is absolutely pathetic. I can't believe the fastest accelerating Triumph ever built sounds like a stock Chevy Spark or Ford Fiesta. It's just unacceptable. And don't tell me about "sound regulations". There are PLENTY of bikes sold in the UK and US that are much louder than this bike that are completely stock from the factory.

    • @threepot

    Try moving your bikes around by standing on the right hand side. The front brake easy to operate and if goes away from you it will land on the side stand. The awkwardness and trip hazard of the side stand is also not an issue. Granted it takes getting used to but for me it was a game changer and with big bikes like this it works a treat.

      karlosh ...not really necessary with such a low seat height. I eventually paid to have it activated on my 1290SA when I embarked on a 4 month trip and had the Motech Trax alloy panniers fitted and a roll top with my tent between them...but while it worked well, I only used it offroad (I’d activate it from the menu while I changed the ABS & traction control). Even with such a tall seat height, it wasn’t necessary on black top, and it prevents you (for several seconds) from rolling backwards, which you sometimes need to do if any vehicles are rolling back towards you.

      Wait, clay?... My 2014 Rocket's low center of gravity, excellent balance, and maneuverability make it easy to handle (for something so heavy). Unless this new one carries its center of mass substantially higher, I would expect it to be just as compliant. It seems like hill hold would be more useful on a bike with a higher seat. Would anyone small enough to find the Rocket a stretch even consider this motorcycle?

    I completely agree. Sat on one at the bike show. This bike has the X-factor more than any bike I’ve ever seen, but it could only be your only bike if you are an occasional rider. If you ride every day, in all weathers, want to take any stuff... you are better off with something else. I’ve got a MT-O9 tracer. Yes it is a bit plasticy by comparison (although the engine and handling is wicked) but you could get TWO of them, all your kit and still have change for the price of one of these!!!

    Agreed 100% on the whole "feet forward" riding position. IMO that's for people who want to look cool (which it doesn't, really) more than they want to ride. Also agreed that I find it more comfortable to be leaned forward a bit to take out any of the transmission of bumps to your spine.

    Nice honest vid. It's a lovely bike but it's a very expensive novelty that's quite impractical in many ways. Although I suspect the heart rather than the head would be chief in the decision making process. I also think you're right that it would be tricky to justify this as your only bike because of it's impractically & over time the appeal may fade. Still a hell of a bike & feat of engineering though & quite the spectacle.
