Patience, time, money for tools, machinery, and space. And then the woodworking learning curve. It would take a novice 10K and a good year to produce something of quality without experience. I'm fortunate enough to work somewhere that paints and clearcoats things daily, so my builds are limited to kits and neck/bodies but I can get the finishing done for nothing.

Just to clear things up on the copper headstock... I'm aware copper oxidizes and forms a patina. Rust is specific to metals that contain iron in them like steel, not copper. I'm excited to see what the 'patina' will look like down the road.

The metal body binding, the copper veneer headstock, and especially the copper epoxy inlay are super innovative ideas for a custom guitar build! I have not seen other luthiers build these ideas into a guitar.
He probably should have covered the copper parts with poly. Or eventually they’ll look green like the Statue of Liberty. But maybe that’s the patina he’s going for? He could have used cocoa to fill in the spaces between the beans! Then it would have a mocha coffee smell!
Until those beans go rancid. Coffee beans contain a very volatile fatty acid in the oil and it goes bad, starts smelling sour after a while. This is why people use fresh beans.

As a guitar player I would love an opportunity to be able to build my own instrument like this. So much passion put into it it’s amazing and I’m sure comes out in the sound.
if you have a buddy with the tools, go for it. start practicing on pine since its cheap and soft and easy to work. its ok if you make mistakes, its pretty hard building a guitar. i built a body from scratch in gr12 woods class with no prior knowledge, haven't even done a kit before, and it turned out pretty good. do your research, find some tools, and give it a go, you never know how it'll turn out until you try. if it doesn't turn out, give it another go, figure out what went wrong and make adjustments for the next time around
It does not come out in the sound. Electric guitars are electronic instruments. All the sound comes from the electronics, the strings, and the things the strings touch. That does not mean building guitars isn't worthwhile. It absolutely is. Just don't do it for something that sounds good. Get that from the electronics.

As cool as that guitar looks and (I'm sure) smells. It actually sounds fantastic too. The copper is oxidizing. Copper turns green when it oxidizes and that is called verdigris (Ver - dih - gree). It might actually look cool once that happens.

A lot of classic sculptures are cast in bronze because the copper content creates amazing patinas.
Its good to have a musical instrument made out of coffee to properly espresso yourself.

The aluminum silver on the top of the 'copper' wire looks really good. It's fresh, and bright, and matches the strings and screws.
