Very well made guitar and video. Commercial references were subtle enough that they weren't intrusive to the point that I would have stopped playback. Very nice outcome.
Beautiful job, Miles!! As someone who's built a lot of guitars, this was super impressive. Two questions: One, curious to know how much this weighed, given it was maple + epoxy. Did you weight? Also, how was the action on it? The neck looks like it was set a bit high (just IMO, not a criticism!), so I wonder how high you had to set the bridge saddles. I try to set the necks so that bottom of the fretboard is nearly flush with the body. That all said, I'll probably borrow this idea at some point down the road. :D Well done, dude!!!
Amazing result! I've built one guitar myself (and it was a Tele, so not nearly as much work as a Strat) and I know how much work it can be! Is there a reason to why you didn't place the output jack on the side or on the back of the body?
I always enjoy your creativity, design, and execution, and this is no exception. This guitar looks awesome! Love the overall aesthetic and the details that make it special. And you sound great playing it too. Thanks for sharing!

i am... SO impressed man. absolutely beautiful. ive always wanted to build guitars. im 30 and i have a lot of experience with just about everything. engineering, carpentry electrical, auto mechanics etc. im one of those ppl. i just want to make a wood shop so bad.
I built a fully acrylic guitar in 1992. I did all the routing by hand with a dremel style tool and patience. Then I hand polished it all. The only thing I forgot was to not cut 90 degree angles, like at the neck pocket. It broke at that point during a show when I fell hard on the stage after hanging from a bungie chord. (Yep, I was a "energetic" on stage). I repaired it by tapping and bolting and gluing. Still have it.....hanging on the wall with the rest. Cheers!!
This is what happens when you are inspired to do something! ❤️ Here in Ireland if you have this sort of enthusiasm for something, you are told forget about it! get a trade it’s never gonna happen for you! Videos like this make me want to encourage my 2 sons interests more! instead of passing them off like my parents did to me! Great video ❤️❤️
Spray max says the pot life for it's 2K Clear Coat is 48 hrs at 68 deg. I recently activated a can and did a small job with plenty left over. The clear coat was still good, and sprayed well 1 week after activating it. It was in my garage where the temp was 65-70 degrees. I actually tested it on a painted can before using it on my car. It dried to touch in about 15 minutes, and fully dried after an hour. So I don't know why the manufacturer says it has a 2 day pot life. I could see it if it was a 2 part version intended to be used with a spray gun, in which case the mix would be exposed to air. So as long as it still sprays- it's good. Don't throw it out after 2 days. Excellent video, and woodworking skills!
Take this talent as far as you can. You just blew away every other guitar maker there is. And there are some great ones who should envy you. Thew white accents it so well.
A really brilliant build and a well made video about it too! One tip I picked up from Pask Makes about Kumico is to use a piece of laminate flooring as a thickness planer sled to precisely thickness your strips before cutting the notches. You glue the strips down with low tack double sided tape. Getting them a precise thickness in that way gives you a good surface finish, and means you can tune the fit very precisely so it assembles easily without the need for the hammer or the splits you got when assembling this one.
Holy cow! What an awesome build! You absolutely deserved to win!! And that guitar is far and away the nicest I have ever seen. Not even rock legends have a bespoke custom guitar like that. Plus it sound awesome!! Can't wait to see future projects!
y'know the great thing about absolutely everyone having at least one idea about what you should have done is that you've now got hundreds of new guitars to make. This looks amazing.
the whole video i as like: give this man a cnc machine! but then again you wouldnt be doing all this by hand and this is just mindblowing. as a person who did her apprenticeship as carpenter in the swiss mountains where the traditional craft is still somewhat alive i have to admit that not alot of the beardy old mountain dudes who were basically born with a saw and a hammer in their hands not a lot of them would be able to pull of something like this. huge respect!

Thank you so much Matthew! That means a lot. I am planning on upgrading the knobs to some that I custom make. I kind of ran out of time for fabricating those last few things because of the rockler challenge end date 😅
I would’ve gone with cream covers and knobs but yeah great build!!
Top job, but yeah I reckon Black instead of white plastic for the pickups and maybe even clear knobs.
Or possibly chrome knobs... it is in the eye of the beholder. I think it looks great as it is....
Quite possibly the most talented human being alive. Someone give this guy a tv show!
This design is gorgeous. And would look gorgeous in purpleheart or rosewood.
This guitar is so incredibly beautiful Miles! Thank you for sharing the build with us, I'm so inspired by your video!

That is really sick! You nailed this hard and it came out looking sweet! Great job, Miles!
Thank you for following along the entire process Tom!! I'm pretty happy with the result ;)
What an absolutely stunning guitar! Loved seeing the whole process!
Personally I might've gone with black knobs and pickups as I find the white a bit jarring, but that's just a matter of personal taste. Again, stunning!
I was thinking the same, or at least a warm tone somehow, but yet not distract from the amazing woodwork.
I'm old enough to be your mother and I don't know why watching you makes me feel proud like I'm your mum, it's just weird lol! Your parents must be awesome and in awe of you. ❤️ Keep up the amazing work, what a gorgeous guitar and sound!
Very well made guitar and video. Commercial references were subtle enough that they weren't intrusive to the point that I would have stopped playback. Very nice outcome.
すごい! こんなかっこいいギターは、日本でも見たことない! ありがとう!
I love this build. I personally would have used a darker finish on the wood, and copper or bronze hardware. But it’s absolutely gorgeous.
Really nice job. Love the overall project and the thought given to the smaller details that make this next level awesome. Thanks!
Glad you liked it! I love adding all the details (that's one of my favorite parts) ;)

I love seeing younger generations taking an interest in building things. It really is a skillset too few have.
Insane that was your first time with epoxy, I've seen a bunch of videos with people more experienced who mess up simpler jobs, well done!
Great build, great video. Everything about this is great! You go Glen Cocco!
I mean Miles
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks ;)
Yeah me too wonder why the jack on the top side
Telecaster jack output would look majestic with this imo
i know nothing about guitars and have never tried kumiko, but i was glued to the screen for the whole video. Great job👊🏻
I always enjoy your creativity, design, and execution, and this is no exception. This guitar looks awesome! Love the overall aesthetic and the details that make it special. And you sound great playing it too. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Seth, I appreciate your support! Glad you enjoyed the video ;)
As "Brian Browning" mentioned Its amazing to see young guys as yourself doing such amazing builds. You truly have an art working with wood. Hoping to see you build some signature guitars for famous musicians and become internationally recognized as a result.
Looks incredible! I’d love to see you make another one without the wood behind it and a translucent or transparent epoxy! Could be epic! Huge props for this build tho! Really awesome work!

Wow! I was expecting another 40 to 50 year experienced guy making this as I have recently been watching guitar making videos. Impressive doesn't begin to describe your talent. Bravo.
You are truly gifted. I don't usually watch videos like this, but you caught my eye from the beginning so much I had to finish to see what your end result was. You are like the Tony Hawk of guitars. Keep up the good work and good influence you will have on other young adults your age.
Cool as hell even from a Japanese point of view of your Kumiko project!
Amazing craftmanship and work!
And sounds EXCELLENT!!!!
Glad you like it! Thank you for watching!!
Sick build dude. Your ability to bring your idea to life with no visible mistakes is remarkable with this being your second build. Just curious why you decided not to put strap buttons on? Again, sick build
Ah, yes, the Japanese word for stratocaster: ストラトキャスタ or sutoratokyasuta~
Really nice guitar, makes for a great combo with the amp, good work!
Thank for your comment! Thanks for also checking out my amp.
this is one of the best videos ive ever seen on youtube, not only the content but the way it was presented and edited together. Great job and great guitar.
good call using spraymax. As a professional painter, I can say that it is a great alternative to investing in all the spray equipment. I have used it for custom guitar finishes in the past. great build!
this was mesmerizing to watch, thank you so much for enhancing my saturday with your calming voice, nice aesthetic and great guitar build :D
That was cool. The beginning was cinematic. Even at 100x the kumiko was slow. 😁 Wonderful song at the end too. Well done!
Hehe thank you Drew! I appreciate it you saying its cinematic lol. The funny thing is, my computer couldn't play back the 100x footage so I couldn't really gauge how fast it looked until after the export. Can't wait to see your build video ;)
@@MakeWithMiles What was the song at the end, by the way? Did you come up with it?
@@awihuke I did ;)
@@MakeWithMiles Awesome! It sounds great. Amazing work on the guitar too, of course :)
@@MakeWithMiles Damn, good job
I’m so impressed with your skills- I’ve wanted to make a guitar and I’m obsessed with that type of patterning mostly for black work in cross-stitch- but I can’t wait to see this it’s going to be beautiful your craftmanship is incredible
I am blown away by your vision and skill. I am inspired to make a 3rd guitar!
Miles, I backward discovered your channel as a college student, lol. Jumped in the time machine to enjoy your early work. Awesome, super impressive.
how cool is that.... playing the guitar you built !!! props !!! love the pace of this video and the explanations... simple and clear and keeps the viewer engaged !!!
Glad you liked it and thank you for watching! I appreciate your kind feedback ;)
That trick with the pencil and washer to get a perfect offset line @ 11:10 is amazing!
Absolutely brilliant! Congrats on your win, you certainly deserve it. This is inspiring ... and beautiful.
if you don't win the competition it's a crime. Masterful work, Beautiful to watch as well.
Haha I actually did ;) Thanks for watching!
The whole build is incredible but that blue paint trick looks super handy!
日本人が見てもこれは美しい。素晴らしいです。ヘッドの「ストラトキャスター」の文字がまた良い。
What a gorgeous guitar! I would love to see what you could do with this by mixing and matching different color schemes and slight angle changes to the pattern. Maybe a TH-cam short of this in an autocad program?
Your patience and creativity are to be appreciated.....
Dang man I'm crying that was so beautiful, never in my life I would thought that wood joint made me shed my tears
That's a beautiful iso-grid structure template that you started with.
your talent for your time on this planet is amazing even for someone twice your age keep killing it look forward to seein you continue to succeed
i am... SO impressed man. absolutely beautiful. ive always wanted to build guitars. im 30 and i have a lot of experience with just about everything. engineering, carpentry electrical, auto mechanics etc. im one of those ppl. i just want to make a wood shop so bad.
already so much dexterity in your craft and you still have your whole life ahead of you. keep up the good work
I'm very impressed by your idea! I live in Japan for like 30 years but have never seen a guitar designed like this.
Your patience, dedication, and diligence are astounding.
Gutszy build - a lot of work had been accomplished before the tummy-cut and arm relief. Hat's off - excellent work.
the most amazing thing of all is you're young .. rare thing.. with all those efforts .. well done !
Wow, thank you!
I built a fully acrylic guitar in 1992. I did all the routing by hand with a dremel style tool and patience. Then I hand polished it all. The only thing I forgot
was to not cut 90 degree angles, like at the neck pocket.
Here in Ireland if you have this sort of enthusiasm for something, you are told forget about it! get a trade it’s never gonna happen for you!
The clear coat was still
good, and sprayed well 1 week after activating it. It was in my garage where the temp was 65-70 degrees. I actually tested it on a painted can
before using it on my car. It dried to touch in about 15 minutes, and fully dried after an hour. So I don't know why the manufacturer says it
has a 2 day pot life. I could see it if it was a 2 part version intended to be used with a spray gun, in which case the mix would be exposed to
air. So as long as it still sprays- it's good. Don't throw it out after 2 days. Excellent video, and woodworking skills!
The level of craftmanship that has been put into this is insane!
Take this talent as far as you can. You just blew away every other guitar maker there is. And there are some great ones who should envy you.
Thew white accents it so well.
Phenomenal. Wood work, camera work, and narration is all A++. This came out amazing. Beautiful work dude!
Use a high quality thin double stick tape to attach templates rather than C.A. glue. Where the bridge is you can use a screw to further secure it.
the whole video i as like: give this man a cnc machine! but then again you wouldnt be doing all this by hand and this is just mindblowing. as a person who did her apprenticeship as carpenter in the swiss mountains where the traditional craft is still somewhat alive i have to admit that not alot of the beardy old mountain dudes who were basically born with a saw and a hammer in their hands not a lot of them would be able to pull of something like this. huge respect!
