I've only been doing Uber for less than a month but discipline is the key. Stay in one area and become an expert in that area. Tonight I was watching a lot of long distance fares being picked up by other drivers that paid less than the cost of driving. Know what happened? I stayed busy all night taking 10 and 12 dollar fares with less than 10-15 minute drive times because most of the other drivers drove themselves out of town chasing higher fares without any analysis and then they got sucked chasing around other fares. Don't be a lab rat. Be a rat with a plan..

Yeah, it can be easy to fall into the trap of chasing the fairs. I learned not to do that early on.

In a big city like Boston where a good percentage of people are traveling by Uber you can do that (especially when the map is lit up like that). In smaller cities where people have vehicles or use public transportation during the day, the main time to make money is in the evening due to people having a social life. So I think it would be fair to say that it depends on what city you're Uber-ing in that allows you to cherry pick those types of pick ups. However, I get the logic behind what you're doing and it's a great idea! Kudos my friend!

agreed, plus boston people are biz types and spending 50 for an uber no biggie, as opposed to say Orlando where everybody has a car and vacation is on their mind not meetings etc.

In my market here in NJ Uber doesn’t provide upfront pricing nor show you your drop off because they know many passengers like to go to NY and it’s a loss for the NJ driver because once you get to NY I can’t pick anyone up from there and have to drive back empty, I drove some one from NJ to Long Island NY (about 1 hour and 30 min) got a total of $44 dollars for the trip and the rider didn’t tip either, to get back into NJ it took me 2hrs and 30 min because of traffic in the afternoon time a total loss of a day and money

UberX fare in Boston is at least 60% higher than UberX fare in Silicon Valley in California. UberX fare in Silicon Valley is < $1.00 per mile for each trip but UberX fare in Boston is ~$1.6 per mile for each trip. Could you estimate Uber's deduction rate from your earning statement? My earning statements show that Uber deducts 40%~50% from customer fare.
For an example, Uber charges ~$20 (total ~25miles of trip) to the rider and UberX driver gains only ~$11 and Uber takes ~$9(~45% out of ~$20). It's good to see how much Uber deduct the fees in Boston.

The only metric that matters is $/mile. Think of it in terms of assets vs. liabilities. Every mile you drive creates only two assets - a deduction and revenue. Meanwhile, every mile creates a host of liabilities - fuel cost, maintenance/repair cost, insurance liability, wear & tear, depreciation, etc. So you have to estimate what kind of mileage you're likely to put on the vehicle in a year ( easier after you've actually put in a few months ), add up ALL your reasonably anticipated costs of driving over that year - fuel, insurance, phone, tires, oil changes, etc, etc and divide it by the estimated mileage. That is your base. The MINIMUM you NEED to earn per mile JUST to maintain operations. Obviously, you then have to cherrypick your way to multiples of that per mile rate in order to actually turn a profit. In almost any case, we shouldn't be accepting any rides paying less than $1/mile regardless

In the U.S. Uber cannot legally deactivate you from the app due to acceptance rates. We are classified as Independent Contractors and not employees. If they deactivate you for being picky and declining trips then you would be considered an employee and they’d owe you a lot of money in benefits and/or wages and overtime guarantees.

You are a liar and this is a false information
Under and Lyft said drivers are self employed and refused to classified us as employee , so if they deactivate you , that is a good news and you can sue
Them and there is the proof inside their website and you should read and understand the rules before making comment and misleading drivers , you can decline a million rides as self employed , the worst they can do to punish you is you lose your bonus
