    The reason the peeling clear coat showed through the new paint is because there was no sealer used beforehand. Get a couple cans of Bulldog and spray it on first before your base coat. Also, you want to keep your fan straight on the panel. First coat should just be fogged on, wait 20 minutes and spray a second wetter coat. For metallics, back your gun away from the panel about a foot and fog it on for your last coat. It will stand up the metallic particles better. Then after flash time shoot your clear on wet but not runny. 2 to 3 coats should suffice.

    Nice job. Thanks for posting your experience. I know a lot of haters saying you can only use expensive equipment. I'm surprised no one commented that you must have a downdraft paint booth. You do with what you have and/or can afford. Of course what do I know, I'm about to use the same sprayer with rustoleum on my $1200 farm truck. Yeah, I've paid more than that for a 'real' paint job, but prep and practice will compensate a lot for the money saved.

    I had one of those paint guns, I think there are $19. at HF now. I painted maybe 5 work trucks, a bunch of old cheap boats, One Commercial Fishing Boat, some rental hoses outsides, never used it inside.
    Tip one: Thin Thin Thin your paint, fog your work to avoid drips.
    The one Modification I made was to hack saw off the Tip Guard, I found it would collect paint then a big drip would drop into the spray and hit the work......with out that I had no more drips.
    Great utility airless sprayer that fits on a shelf & only cost $20. !

    I did the same thing! If you want less orange peel, then warming up the paint first helps as well as doing MUCH THINNER coats. You blasted like 2-3 coats worth on at a time. Too thick at one time. If you warmed it up, did like 1 light coat and 2-3 medium coats, your results would be 100% better

    • @ianholmen888
      @ianholmen888 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Also, you will probably cut into the base coat bc you had so much orange peel before clear coat. Sanding before you clear would also have given better results .

    Definitely better results then expected. If someone told me they were going do that I'd expect it to come out much rougher looking. I'm curious if with that large a nozzle you'll have problems putting down a wet enough coat on the vertical surfaces to get a good finish without getting runs.

  • @magicone9327
    @magicone9327 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I found that the chance of cavitation is extreme If the paint volume isn't kept close to full. When it happens it looses it pump prime and pressure resulting in the complete loss of atomization. The momentary result is bad. On a house just back roll but on a car your screwed.

  • @jumpinjojo

      juan landa flow adjust can only be done with tip size and rear knob on unit which changes the stroke of piston. Not as good by any means as an air gun but it does do a fair job.

    I've been painting for almost ten years. Do yourself a favor and teach yourself to blend the paint. Laying the new paint on the old color is where you ran into the color difference issue. on average 2-3 coats on the primed and sealed repair, then a final light blend coat typically not covering the entire panel with a splash of blendzall in the paint mix. Then clear.

    Yeah not bad for electric but the HVLP gun helps atomize the paint to give a more desirable look for the metallic in the paint. You can see how the metallic is kind of blotche. Air compressed HVLP still the best way to go.

    You should use primer only when raw metal is exposed or worked on. In parts where you are painting over old paint, then you don't need to use primer, but you should sand the old paint to get the clear coat off... should be good to go!

    • @Ed_Garage
      @Ed_Garage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look and compare sides. You will notice the non primered side came out darker. It did not match the paint on the car at all. But the side I use primer on matched paint closer. I agree if you sand the surface more smoother and get rid of the clear coat edges that part would be gone. But the darker paint will still show through the lighter pearl paint.

    Nice job but must always use primer on metals, wood, etc it makes a big difference NO short cuts yea its a hassle for extra work but I rather have someone tell me down the road years later hey the paint job still looks nice and bright I'll recommend you to friends. I once skipped primer and went straight to paint and then the wall was wrapped had to do it all over. Everything has its purpose.

    If it’s a spoiler, they’re usually plastic, which you don’t even need to sand it down and prime it and all that shit. Just scuff, clean, adhesion promoter, paint and clear.

    Lmao did everyone just see past the name of the spray gun? "KRAUSE & BECKER?" Sounds like a black and Decker spoof.

    #1 never paint outside if you are wanting a clear coat finish. #2 never dry the surface in direct sunlight as it will dry quickly and may crack. otherwise for a $15 sprayer, what more do you want.

    That looks like a good spray gun.

    You should use a darker or black primer to darken the green color.

    You got orange peel because you put way too much paint on it.

    from far you can tell the primer side is lighter you probally should of used sealer for that... your gnna have the line also because of not wet sanding it

  • @allmihi
    @allmihi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    the darker the paint the darker the primer should be. gray,red,black use your best judgement

    It probably would do an OK job of laying down solid color but I would not think it could do well with metallic since the gun angle is not able to be at 90° to the painted surface. Figure out a flexible pick up tube that would follow the paint like a gas line in a weed eater fuel tank.

    Nice...I was just looking at a Harbor Electric gun for doing exactly what you did! Nice Job! Did you thin the paint more than a normal air gun? I have been reading and learning as much as I can.

    • @Ed_Garage
      @Ed_Garage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I only thinned it according to paint manufacturing specs. 1:1 ratio

    For $15.00 that gun worked great. I think you went a little heavy on the spraying though. Lighter coats works better.

    The only thing I dont like about this gun is the paint pick up tube. It's not self aligning.
