  • Another trash challenge from the dump, this machine turned out great. It had a blocked carburetor full of gelatinous glop and was leaking fuel. Bad float valve seat. It took me a bit of tinkering after posting the video to figure out the controls, but this is a classic! Cleaned up awesome!! Surges a bit, but I later fixed that. Including a blade control clutch, this 2 speed self propelled Honda Harmony 215 model HRM215-SXA (serial number MZBB-6162308 ) with a GXV140 engine is from the mid 1990s. Xenoy composite deck and dual blades shaped like an "X" make for an Interesting dump pick. Before it could catch on fire, I cleaned out the carb and polished up the machine....and everything works great now! Other than the price of a few ounces of carb cleaner, it cost me nothing. Yankee cheapo man I am!

    Ahhhh the 215 clog-o-matic. Beautiful lawn mower for a two inch lawn….anything more forget it.
    I got mine free in the junk. With the controls broken off. I had to fudge everything back together.
    I opened the bottom of my bag, and cut the plastic on the starboard side open. And mounted a license plate for a deflector.
    Now it will handle a four to six inch lawn. Still plugs up. And grass sticks like mad to the underside.
    But, free….it still works, and I reward it with frequent oil changes. 😊

      Nice. This guy was reasonably intact, except for the gunked up carb. Seems to run OK, but I never really took it into deep grass. "Free" and "still works" are synonymous with "I'll take it!!" in my book. Thanks for checking it out, and good luck! -C

      Yeah, this guy needed a few things too. I hear you. But it cleaned up nice and it is pretty tight now! Good luck with yours. -C

    I have the same machine. I bought it new in ‘96 from Home Depot. It starts on the first or second pull every time. Cuts beautifully. I’m thinking of picking up a parts machine!

      That's what you call a "good investment"! As you can see in the video, this example needed come carburetor TLC, but other than that....everything works well!! Thanks for viewing. -C

    Scary old mower??? Looks beautiful to me. Needs some additional tweeking/cleaning, but what a find. (I have three 215s, one with that type deck, and like them better than the newer ones!)

      Ha Ha. Thanks! The "scary old" moniker is just part of the show. You can see in some of my vids out there.... that some other contrivances are far more pre-safety, ratty, dredged up, fire-spitting experiences! Yeah, this machine cleaned up very nice in the end- After some more tweaking and washing, it looked new. Ended up selling to a Honda fan! The composite decks are pretty robust. I think some folks did not know what to make of them, but I like too. Ciao. -C

    Fantastic video. Make sure ALL portions of your audio is good because you are a man that has interesting things to say & we want to be able to hear it clearly. Make more videos. Thank you for taking time to show this.

      Hey Larry, Thanks for all of the positive feedback. That was a pretty good fix. Nice machine I ended up selling it. Yeah, I can be a bit of a mumbler :(. I'll try to work more on my enunciation! -C

    Still surging. You should go deeper into the carb like checking the emulsion tube for blockage and main jet. Spraying carb cleaner is often not enough to cure surging.

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, since the vid I did take the carb apart and blow it all out again, ( you were right about the jet) and it smoothed everything out. This vid was phase 1...going from hardly working to "working sort of ok". Thanks much! -C

      @@TenaciousCsRescueLeague These are good mowers. I have one without the drive system. With the amount of jell in the bowl I suspected the main jet had some crustified junk in it. Thanks for making your videos. They are a lot of work.

    Awesome. I really like Honda engines. Especially now with Honda quitting Oct 2023 making them. Parts for 10 years though. Got a few of em. Found a 1988 I believe HRA215 commerical model with bag and side discharge and those self propel....woo fast

      Interesting! These older Harmony mowers seem quite coveted by mower enthusiasts it seems. Did not know Honda pulling out of the engine market. Shame to mess with a good thing. Keep that 88' going, Sir ! -C

    Nice save. Looks like a good machine now that you fixed it. (edit for hitting the wrong key!!!)

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Every trashed machine seems to have a buggy carb that led to its demise. Generally a rather simple fix or just a cleaning. Everything on this machine appears to work as expected. Was probably rather expensive ($400-500? ) when new!

    The only bad thing is the plastic deck that's brittle prone to crack

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, some kind of a composite. Called Nexite or something to that effect? Not bad actually, in my experience anyway. I think they also use it to make motorcycle helmets and the like. Thanks for checking out the vid! -C

    i just picked up one of these - I had this mower in high school - and now bought a second one. only problem is the rear wheels won't adjust. any idea why?

      Hi there. Not exactly sure what is binding up to give you hassle. Might be some debris or rust in the pivot points causing stiffness? Spraying a little white lithium grease into the moving parts (or better, penetrating oil) might work. Wiggle a bit and let it settle in for a couple hrs. Wiggle/spray again. Sorry for such a simplistic suggestion, but I can't think of what else is awry. Here is a link to a manual. Not much there, but perhaps some leads. Thanks for checking out. -C.

    I just got one. Self Propelled isnt working. Gonna dig into it. So far the cable is broken but the mechanics seem rusted stiff.

    • @TenaciousCsRescueLeague
      @TenaciousCsRescueLeague  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice. Keep at it! Get a little penetrating oil (i.e. liquid wrench, PB Blaster etc.) and work it into the frozen parts. Let it sit. Then keep wiggling the parts and spraying in. It'll work free. Trust me! -C
