- An older HRB215 HONDA HARMONY Lawnmower with a very common problem is FIXED and REPAIRED. STARTS then stalls STOPS or DIES. WILL NOT START after STORAGE been sitting too long. A quick demonstration on HOW TO FIX REPAIR and CLEAN a CARBURETOR off a Honda HRB 215 motor push self propelled Lawn mower. No Carburetor rebuild was needed, just a thorough cleaning!

My main jet hole was plugged. I watched several other videos before your tip was discovered. After getting plugged hole free it started right up and ran like new!! Much appreciated!!!
Great video, every other video I could find showed how to clean the carb, but this showed the injector being removed and after I removed the pin and cleaned it my mower runs better than ever. Many thanks

Well thanks for your help! I cleaned carburetor and got it running today. It actually took 2 times of taking it apart and blowing everything out with compressed air and carburetor cleaner and it runs like a champ! Thnx again.

Well, I have that same engine and model with the less swoops magnesium deck. It would not start even with starter fluid! Plug looked okay but replaced it anyway. Was the right move and starts with fluid now but dies right away! I am reasonably handy but your wonderful video gave me the experience I need BEFORE I needed it! Thank you so much! Cleaning the carb tomorrow!
Exactly the same issue with a newer model. But carb set up looks almost identical, so will be following this advice vid. Thanks.
Good video, here's a tip, if you are not going to use it for a while then turn of the gas valve and let it run until it stops. That will keep it from gumming up again. And be careful not over bend the spring too much, better safe than sorry.
Some don't have the tap, so you need to isolate the fuel from tank and drain float bowl or add stabiliser to fuel and run stabilised fuel through before storing it away
Had that problem too and bending the little tab fixed it straight away.

This is a very well done video and explanation of what to do with a gummed up carb. I've never taken a carb off in my 68 years. Always wanted to but had more money than time so I always paid someone else to do this stuff. Now I have time and this walked me through it perfectly. Everything went back together perfectly thanks to you! Mower started first pull and runs like a top. Thanks for taking the time to do this and for sharing with the rest of us five thumbers.........

Thanks so much for this video. I didnt realize it had a main jet and atomizer tube. Fixed my problem after storage for 5 years and it wouldnt stay running after a squirt of starting fluid. Thanks again.

Great video, couldn't have done it without your vid. My carb was in terrible shape. Full of hard water deposits and rust. Still not getting gas. I'm going to try to use a needle to clean all those little holes in the jet and see it that's the problem. Or see if I can find a vid for carb rebuild. Thanks for all your help!

I even added a fuel filter on my Honda I always use premium fuel with fuel stabilizer and about 3 Oz of fuel system cleaner everytime I fill 5 gallon jerry can took mine apart last night started to get a slight sure not all the time it is fixed thanks
Rather than bend the spring, just move it to the next hole. That’s what it’s there for.....

Sadly took everything apart and it’s worse. Will not run unless I prime the carb with the air box off. The emulsion tube look bad too. Cleaned it all up. My only guess is the main jet must not be as clean as it should be... no suction from the bowl?

I sold a Honda Harmony 225 to a guy 2 years ago and he called back 2 years later complaining the mower would not start.
I brought it back, it started first pull on choke but shut off as soon as the throttle was moved to normal operating position.
So I cleaned the carb. out, now it works as it should again.
225 216 or 217 the old ones were 195.
Giving the engine a clean before hand would be a smart thing to do.

There’s also a screw that adjusts your throttle limit. I need to turn mine up again, starting to bog down a bit when I engage the blades.

A dirty air filter can cause start and run. I cleaned the filter and it ran fine it was run only when primed and quit

On Honda. Vapor gas what I did drill open gas flow. Jet stop up. Need fuel filter gas cap put small pen hole cap!! Vent center. Done all this Fix all problem. Why use clean jet then wire bread wire plastic off show wire. Then get air compressor blow low & high jets
Bread wire clean out gas hose be sure add gas filter. Clean carb .Boil pot water . Old pot boil water take out old seals put carb into boil water let soak. Then soon take out get air compressor blow all out see how improve rin motor ( be sure put or add new fuel filter

At the end can't you just move the spring to the other hole? Are those meant for that?
good observation Mech Master! Yes if there are adjustment holes you can use them. However sometimes that does not work if the spring is too stretched
when cleaning a carb Ive' noticed that you don't use a ultranisonic cleaner. Many other small engine mechenics use this tool for cleaning parts,. I was just wondering why you don't.

Here's a super duper top secret trick. Use fuel stabilizer year round. You will never have this issue again.
I agree I always use fuel stabilser and never had this issue I use Briggs and Stratton fuel fit
Thank you very much for the video. I had the same problem. It took a few tries to start and then when you put the throttle lever to the fast indicator (rabbit picture), it would surge and at times stall, especially when you hit some tall grass. I cleaned the carburetor according to your video, though I did not soak overnight the float and other parts in carburetor fluid. It started on the first pull and did not surge. It appears that the main issue was the main jet port part between the nozzle and carburetor bowl, as there appears to be some dirt obstructing the small port. Will see how things go. How did you clean the fuel tank?
I empty the fuel tankt and let it dry out, then I blow air in there and all the dried up stuff comes flying out
Do you have a video showing making gaskets, I thought that was a good idea? Also, my float bowl bolt was leaking, I think that had a little spongey washer on it, what would you use if that was leaking? I ended up buying a $20 replacement on Amazon but I’ll clean the old one up for a backup!

I have same lawnmower and my issue is that it will start when i move it off the choke but will only run for 30 seconds or a minute at most then cuts off. And it always dies when i try to engage the blade. Is this a carb issue ??

Excellent video. You think running that carb in a harbor freight ultrasonic parts cleaner full of carb cleaner over night would get the gunk out or better off disassembling like you did?

Great video! I'm working on an older lawn boy mower that has a Honda engine. It's starts right up but once the choke slides open it shuts down. If u hold the choke close it stays running. Any ideas? The mower hasn't ran for probably 8-10 years. I did run the gas out of it the last time I used it.

Slow speed or idle is that fat plastic screw that sits over the black plastic jet that he shows to remove - on the front of the mower - and there is a slot in the cowling that lets you adjust this screw.

You are right that is usually a good idea. I saw the plugged main jet and took a chance that the pilot jet wasn't plugged.

I own that same mower. Recently when the engine is running oil collects inside the air filter assembly. I've never tipped the mower on that side. What is causing this?
the carburetor is likely flooding and filling up the oil compartment with gas(needs cleaning and or rebuild). Or it has too much oil in it. The vent hose from the engine vents into the air filter box.
Ok I will remove and clean the entire carburetor. I have recently changed the oil but this problem was occurring before I changed the oil. The oil was low but I have the correct amount of oil in the engine. I was told there is a hole behind where the breather tube goes into the engine that can get clogged up. Is there a hole there?
You never cleaned out the pilot jet a.k.a. slow jet. Was that an oversight or on purpose?
Ty Curtin He did. The pilot jet is the jet that was inside the cylinder next to the nozzle. It is NOT the bolt holding on the bowl, even though that is where the pilot jet is on many carbeurators.
The fuel still reaches the pilot jet that we cleaned in this video because the cylinder within the bowl has holes in the sides to let the fuel through, completely neglecting the need for fuel to go through another jet located at the bottom of the bowl
Maybe same reason he didn't bother to clean all that shit off behind the carb. Nope... just put the gasket over the shit. 🙄 I clicked this by accident. Thought it was Bruce Pender who also just fixed one of these. 👍🏻👍🏻

This one started too... running is a different matter. Cheap gas left in over winter keeps new units rollng out f the stores. 😂
@@8ftbed What is 'cheap gas'. Gov't has mandated gas formulation for last 30 years or so. When I was young gas could sit for years and still be OK. Now it goes stale in weeks because of water absorption from ethanol.

if I did all of that I would not know how to put it back together and may as well get a new lawn mower. The bad thing about these "do it yourself" if you don't know what you are doing you will break it.

You can't break something that is broken. Some people want their body buried or cremated after death and others donate it for medical schools to use to train future medical professionals. . Another solution for those who don't want to disassemble the carburetor is to replace it with a new one. Amazon sells them for less than $30.
