It's also one of the ways the ship is so versatile. There's no obvious reason to want to go to the roof of the ship, but once you have the option you find yourself using it often.
@@jedi_drifter2988 I love how the corsair feels like Drake management got a hold of a carrack brochure and said, let's see if we can make this but way cheaper. Two level bridge, check. Top entrance and side airlock, check. Can carry vehicles, check. Top and side turrets, check (we don't need the bottom one, pilot can just turn the ship). No need for a snub either if the ship's smaller and has wings for atmo. Have marketing come up with a name that starts with C as well and we're golden.
I do find the roof access useful. It allows me to make a cautious exit when I am not sure if someone is waiting to ambush me and it gives me a vantage point to check and potentially snip from. It also often makes a more useful place to Eva in and out.
Drake really does make the best ships to just experience the game. From the little Cutter to the Cutlass and then Corsair. There’s a Drake ship for any size group. That’s what I like most about them.
I think they’re the most overrated ships. The corsair is ugly and I hate the cutlass even though it’s considered one of the better early ships, they’re too easy to disable by just taking out one of the engines and watching them fly in circles. People even randomly target them for that reason just to troll which is especially annoying during a cargo run
@@FearTheIndoorHorseRancher I think the ship looks absolutely badass and its firepower is incredible too. This is probably one of my favourite ships in the game
@@FearTheIndoorHorseRancher While you might think it's ugly or Drake ships in general.. They are definitely the 'Millenium Falcon/Republic' Star Wars art style in the sense of being thrown together with whatever is available, but gets the job done. The most important thing about the Drake ships though is the versatility at their price points. From starter to the Corsair, you can experience just about all the gameplay loops from cargo, hauling a ROC to mine, or combat. They are practical and usually far cheaper than the 'Pretty to look at' ships in terms of aUEC which makes the value incredibly good.
It's worth noting that its massive cargo space (despite lower SCU capacity) makes the Corsair one of the few ships of its size that can carry a P-72/P-52, drawing even more parallels to the Constellation. Also, I love the cheeky jabs at Drake's status as everybody's favorite definitely-not-for-pirates brand.
@@madformusernot a fan of PVP myself but the Corsair is fun to fly.... that is until it isn't... which is usually that time when you realise you just lost a wing, an engine or some little shite just hit you in your blindspot
One of my favourite features of this ship is that it has actual landing lights underneath, and a flood light on the ramp that you can turn on, and thus light up your entire landing area. Very helpful when landing in the dark, and using external camera views.
Roof access is useful in getting a decent sniper position when parked on the ground. It also means that you can more easily do minor hull repairs with handheld repair tools when they get implemented.
honestly i bought the ship in game... and it is genuinely my favorite ship... it feels like something i could live in for want of a better term. when it comes to star ships my general idea of a good one is something that can take a hit, hit back, and still feel relatively like a home... thats just me though i guess but still i really do enjoy it
Just back into the game and I had this ship in my inventory. The minute I saw the cafeteria and the extra rooms I wanted to cry. This is what I paid for! Now I just need my best friends to join the space cult and we're exploring !!!
Its one of those ships you hate to love, but indeed, I do love my Cosair. I think you forgot to mention the sharable under-bed storage. Also I like to point out that a PTV parks nicely at the foot of the steps for no loss in the cargo area, and the other side of the steps is a great place to store those 1 or 2 SCU crates with inventory, again, nicely out of the way.
I squeezed a Mule in alongside a full 72scu load a few days ago though I admit it was not easy to get a person in or out via the ramp (my elevator chose that trip to play up) 🙄
Great Video! I pre-ordered the Corsair as soon as I saw its first renderings. To me, it is a very distinct looking ship that allows me as a solo player a variety of options. I tend to mine, explore, bounty hunt, and deliver items. I just consider it to be an iconic vessel worthy of my hard earned cash. I freakin' dig this thing! PEACE
Great review! I'd only add that roof access on the Corsair offers a unique advantage to be able to hand-repair the dorsal area of your hull after combat. Since it is an exploration ship (or at least intended to be independent in it's function) it would make sense to offer the ability to have full access for self-repairs when in gravity. So far it's the only ship we can get on top of (in gravity) to accomplish this. Any other ship would require a spacewalk to accomplish the same thing.
Except for the Carrack and since the hanger is on top as well, if you open the large upper doors, then find a way to fill it with water ... Pool party when in gravity. To empty the pool/hangar you just fly out of atmo and all the water is sucked out ... nice and clean.
VERY good review, Farrister. You missed a couple minor points I feel. For some obscure reason it has 1500k vehicle storage, which is less than half of a Pisces Med rescue (makes zero sense to me.) which is a drawback, otherwise I love my Corsair. Its my day to day flier. You also didn't point out on your tour, that there are drawers under each of the cabin beds! These have 650k internal/separate storage for you and your bunkies to stash your own equipment, food, drinks, etc! ALSO the hidden flask in the kitchen for those boozy nights at the throttle. Love your stuff! Glad to see you popped this one out, as she's my gorgeous girl and I can't remember enjoying the game this much before her!
Thank you so much for doing a review of my favorite ship in the verse. Also glad you waited until 3.19 to do it because of all of the changes that have been made.
A very cool ship. I've had the pleasure of traveling in an RSI Taurus lately, but I will definitely have to try out the Corsair. Thank you so much for the thorough review, Farrister!
Great video on the Corsair. I had this ship for about a month having waited a long time for it with the Constellation Aquila as a loaner. I found the ship too low to the ground. This inhibits effective use for ROC mining although it can certainly do the job, I dont want to spend alot of time searching for the perfect spot to land. Likewise the wings bothered me when flying low. I did not like the smokey dim lighting inside which could not be changed. I spend most of my time playing alone and it feels like a dark gloomy ship....spooky. so I melted it and got a Constellation. This time the Andromeda and I never looked back. For a solo player much more versatile. More cargo space, easier to land I just prefer it. I will say that if I was going to often man a corsair with full crew of RL friends and family that the Corsair would be king. With all those guns manned its a force for sure. But solo? I will keep my connie. For ROC mining? I also keep a Nomad.
I absolutely love flying the Corsair. It’s my daily driver for hanging around the verse in PVE and PVP. This ship has character and when you learn how to fly it she maneuvers great for her size. Great video Farrister! This ugly duckling has become my daily flyer & i can't seem to break away from it, lol. Oh yeah, you forgot to mention the little personal storage drawers underneath the beds in each cabin & the heavy weapons bay in the side room. :]
How everyone mentions this piracy thing. As a Drake user I have to mention that the cargo was already floating in space when I arrived. This bias against drake ships is just ridiculous. Not EVERY drake ship is secretly used for piracy. They are good ships in general and used also by many other people.
I love my corsair, I applied that hinterland paint . This is my daily ships, and I usually log out via bed, with this ship, also have some ground vehicle in the rear, wherever I need them, pretty versatile ships. I only go to space station or landing pad if I need repair or restock other than that, I live inside this ship lol
Just recently picked up the Corsair, in game as my fourth ship and first medium/large ship. You can definitely tell the difference in size while flying, but still flies relatively well. I am liking it as an all-around capable craft!

I typically take the co-pilot/turret controls, and if a friend of ours joins they usually swap between cheek-turrets We do all sorts of missions - combat, cargo hauling (be it legal or otherwise), lugging around a ground vehicle for mining or exploration. We both love this thing. If they ever bring some modification abilities, it will become even more beloved!
Absolutely love my Corsair, its design, it's sounds, it's insane combat power, it's so cool and so much fun to fly in all sorts of scenarios, I traded my Andromeda for it and I'm not disappointed at all, being a huge Drake Interplanetary fan.
i own the cutter, and it’s tied with the corsair as my favorite ship, the cutter is my ideal small ship, with the corsair great for crewing with friends and longer bigger missions
I've a suggestion for videos: Astro Chronicles has made a video around envisioning a Terrapin as an Apollo style medical ship. I can tell you it looks amazing! Whilst we wait for CIG to complete their backlog, are there any other ships that could be repurposed better in another role? Particularly if their current intended gameloops aren't in the game yet.
Great video, I'll be binge watching a ton of these today, I'm really enjoying the channel. Regarding the Corsair I felt like the two side turrets could have been remote which would have enabled the use of that section of the interior for something like data storage, interdiction, or emp (would be bad for balance ik) I also agree that the turreted weapons feel a little anemic but my major gripe is with the missile loadout, I can't believe they only gave us 4 racks on that ginormous wing. Don't get me wrong, 16 size 2s is still great, but I would've liked a fifth missile rack.
Yes. Do not just look at DPS, a lot of people have bought the ship based on that and then sold it again in disappointment. When it comes to combat, especially PvP the corsair not a ship for a fair fight. Compared to combat ships it's sluggish, it's top speed is average so you won't always be able to run off to recharge shields, and the thrusters have very low HP so it's fairly easy to end up with no functional engines. Just like a real pirate ship, a corsair is great for disabling and boarding cargo haulers but when you see the navy coming, you quickly leave.
Is the engine issue actually being addressed? The amount of times I get the damn ‘TORQUE IMBALANCE’ the moment a small missile hits my full shields is insane. It feels like a handicap and I’m turned into a wheelchair with guns, it seems like a bug it can’t possibly be intended I have never had this issue with any other ship. I’ve flown most.
It’s an amazing and beautiful ship that’s is well made from design to usability standpoint. Since it’s recent release it definitely shows that CIG’s “Gold Standard” process is evolving well into current general initial design standards of today. Asymmetry design has it unique benefits but it not my cup of tea, but I’ll always enjoy a warm kettle of discussions with our respectable good friend Farrister. And with that said again I tip my hat in your general direction my good sir 😅🎩
Its star wars, expanse, and a dab of its own all in one... i love the clunky industrial feel od drake. I dont personaly love the constant poke that its a pirate vessal. Ive used it for a variety of things and see it as my home wherever i go. It has that feel of being used and looks amzing with some use in and about on its paint. I also went from being attacked reguallary in my free max to only being radar locked 4 times in this, once they dared to fight and i won. I haul cargo, do my own missions, and have yet to utilize the firepower everyone boasts about. "The Bootleg Flyer" as ive dubbed it along with its own theme song of Tom Petty's of same name. Together there isnt much we cant do and my brother and son will soon be joining me. Fantastic review been waiting on this one love all them from ship to location to events your the best! To prove it i beleive this like my third ever post to anything. Thanks
Damnit, I wasn't going to buy more ships, until I saw this review. I originally wanted a 600i again, but since 95% of my playtime is in AC, a Corsair makes much more sense.
I have my Corsair's weapons upgraded to four size 5 laser cannons and 2 size four laser cannons and its extremely satisfying to melt a Hammerhead and even tiny ships. If you plan on running locked gimbals and play on joysticks turning off ESP really helps with aiming.
Really love Corsair. As a Star Wars fan it feels like mix of Slave and Ghost. Usable for everything and both alone and multicrew. Only things I miss are medbed and a snubfighter.
You’ll notice that if you get pretty lumped up after a tough solo bounty session, that the repair costs can be eye-watering. Tens of thousands of credits. In this case, best to go back down to the hangar, open the garage door and set the cruise for a speed in the teens m/s then jump out and eva back to the asop terminal. Fast track the insurance claim for ~8k credits instead and wait 6 minutes.
@@AlexanderM-mq3cx precisely. Naturally, there is the slight penalty of the claim time. I cannot remember if since I made my comment if claim wait times and/ or costs have been rebalanced to make this strategy obsolete.
I really enjoy the Corsair. Best all around ship. Its expensive at $250 but if you have a small play group it will provide an awesome experience. The loading ramp is bi-fold. The angles on the ramp really extend the cargo area for vehicles. I fit an URSA and Fury in the back and had plenty of room to walk around both. The Mercuryt Star Runner hold more cargo and has the cargo right up to the bulkhead and starboard wall. The Corsair has it in the center and allows full walk around. I wish they would slide the cargo grid to the to the railing and starboard side since you can't access the habitation door from that side. It could easilly fit more cargo in grid.
Id love to have the ship be a bit more modular. Like stripping the side turrets for docking access, tractor beam, recon probe, or something else. And the option of making the top turret manned so the co-pilot can have more SA while on mission
I've found that the way the ship is set up now is great for keeping the ship safe when it's on the ground. Someone on the copilot seat has access to the ship's radar, top turret and missiles, so when the crew goes off to do whatever on the ground someone can remain in that station keeping an eye out for trouble, and if that happens while the crew runs back the copilot can start defending the ship. The folded wing makes the missiles very usable even when the ship is on the ground.
You can rewind the ursa or other ground vehicle inside the Corsair back up the ramp to free space for more cargo after the ramp is closed. You'll get an ursa and about 40 SCU
My favorite thing to do with the Corsair is doing HRTs/VHRTs and having the option to steal the contreband of the targets, its very good for that, as it can also stand its own very well against AI targets in those contracts
Gosh, I love this ship! And I love your reviews, but this time I have small critique: 1) Corsair has the coolest copilot seat Animation, and the seat is surprisingly useful (Rockets, power triangle, turret and a good landing view), why not showing this? 2) Corsair has under each bed a cool little inventory. 3) Corsair has lockable Doors! Super useful. 4) Corsair has very nice and unique floodlights for the ramp, which can be found at the rampbutton. 5) Corsair has a small surprise in the kitchen for you, if you can find it.
About point 1, the great landing view is wasted at the moment because the copilot cannot fly the ship. I've been told this is a temporary limitation because the game engine doesn't handle two pilot seats very well (see the many bugs other ships have on the copilot seat), but when that's fixed the copilot's seat will be amazing for searching for things on the ground.
Yeah I fly bunch of ships. Like the Reclaimer, Super hornet, Cutlass Red, and so on..... But the Corsair, I lived in the ship. I stock my Corsair with ammo, food, drinks, and even put a few weapons on the rack for the display purposes. I log in to the game, wake up on the captain's bed, do my tasks, end of the day I go back to that bed and log out. I hadn't had the need or want to go to port or city for anything and lived on the ship. It's a fun experience when your in deep in space with nothing but ur ship and possibility a friend that jumps on becoming a crew member and do merc contracts and drive an Ursa APC in the back or a fury as an escort fighter during bounties if we have 2 friends + me. You be shocked how well the fury performs as an snub fighter for the Corsair. Good times.
While the size and shape might not be the closest, the interior design and layout of this ship reminds me a lot of Firefly, and it really feels like the most classic 'working man's' ship I've seen haha.
"The Corsair comes relatively well armed for a ship that's definitely not intended for piracy." I didn't *know* I wanted a Corsair review by Farrister, but I *wanted* a Corsair review by Farrister.
Altho, i must say, the roof access will be vital for pirate, fps mission gameplay, imagen being able to go out 4 ways in this ship, via elevator to roof or all the way down, or thru airlock or thru the back ramp, you really do have a edge over other ships with just 1 exit, where its easily to camp. I think this will be a legendary pirate ship.
If anyone wanted another reason to buy the Corsair, you CAN fit an argo cargo in it (and an ursa same time haha). You must not use landing gears, line it up against floor and turn off engine, it will lock like unsnapped cargo crates (will not move in fights, quantum, etc). ALSO it fits 4 fury's comfortably
It's always funny to see how developers think that military style ships would have all those fancy hydraulic opening/closing-mechanisms. Nope, all of that would be "powered" by human muscle. High risk of injury, needs maintenance and costs way too much. Well, that's where the "fiction" in sci-fi comes into play, I guess. Rule of cool and all that. :) Anyway, these reviews are actually really fun to watch. Even for people who do not play the game.
All the corsair does is make me want a connie rework :D I also love how easy it is to get into and out of at every spot. Just A+ design if you can handle how big the cross section is.
Completely off topic ... Someone needs to test if the Fury MX can lock on to a target, then fire its missiles at another ship, while parked in the front section of the Caterpillar. It would be worth the price of the Fury, just to give the Cat 20 missiles, if it works.
Another good review mate! I have to point out that the Corsair is a poor pirate ship due to the slow speed/poor agility and vulnerable engines. As a daily driver it's not that bad.
Roof access is one of the coolest things about this ship.
It's also one of the ways the ship is so versatile. There's no obvious reason to want to go to the roof of the ship, but once you have the option you find yourself using it often.

Great summary. Would have been good to mention the bugs, and the engine hp issue, and the upcoming fix to it.
I hope the connie gold pass gets the same amount of love.
I LOVE the look of this ship, reminds me so much of something from star wars
I upgraded to it during this Fleet Week.
I have no friends, let alone ones who play Star Citizen, but I like it still.
Good review! 😊
This is my one and only pledge ship. I love it but I'm definitely upgrading to the galaxy next time its for sale.
Just got one myself i was nervous but i committed to it, got good deal as wel
Thanks
You can also put a C8R inside, adding additional space for inventory-loot and so a little med bay.
Just a tip. there’s mouse smoothness settings so you don’t jerk the camera and bother the visuals 😊
Damnit, I wasn't going to buy more ships, until I saw this review. I originally wanted a 600i again, but since 95% of my playtime is in AC, a Corsair makes much more sense.
Noticeably absent from a Drake ship is the lack of gun racks…just found that odd.
The roof access kinda reminds me of the X Wing "Access" where R2-D2 for example got out to repair stuff mid Flight :D
Please use the script you wrote to edit the auto-captions for accuracy. Otherwise great video, totally subscribing.
Man I hope once the cargo grid overhaul for older ships comes around the Corsair will be able to grid 1-2 32scu pods.
Ooh that would be interesting
Thank you Farrister, love the CORSAIR and ofc love your review. Excellent channel keep pushing
You’re saying ghost ride the ship out of the hanger then to back and claim it?
@@AlexanderM-mq3cx precisely. Naturally, there is the slight penalty of the claim time. I cannot remember if since I made my comment if claim wait times and/ or costs have been rebalanced to make this strategy obsolete.
I always saw the Corsair as a weird baby of the Falcon, B-wing and X-wing from Star Wars. Thus why I got it
All the wings xD
It could easilly fit more cargo in grid.
my favourite ship by a mile can solo anything or drag a few mates along and love the aesthetics cant fault it
Id love to have the ship be a bit more modular.
Top elevator exit is crucial to avoid ambushes. I also like leaving the ship using the side docking door.
My favorite thing to do with the Corsair is doing HRTs/VHRTs and having the option to steal the contreband of the targets, its very good for that, as it can also stand its own very well against AI targets in those contracts
It definitely feels like you can live in the Corsair more than the Connie currently.
Gosh, I love this ship! And I love your reviews, but this time I have small critique:
1) Corsair has the coolest copilot seat Animation, and the seat is surprisingly useful (Rockets, power triangle, turret and a good landing view), why not showing this?
2) Corsair has under each bed a cool little inventory.
3) Corsair has lockable Doors! Super useful.
4) Corsair has very nice and unique floodlights for the ramp, which can be found at the rampbutton.
5) Corsair has a small surprise in the kitchen for you, if you can find it.
About point 1, the great landing view is wasted at the moment because the copilot cannot fly the ship. I've been told this is a temporary limitation because the game engine doesn't handle two pilot seats very well (see the many bugs other ships have on the copilot seat), but when that's fixed the copilot's seat will be amazing for searching for things on the ground.
yeah i found the surprise in the kitchen just after reading this thx
@@nagajule7715 cool. I like it! It's a nice touch.
Once ship damage systems and atmo are more comprehensive, that dorsal access will be invaluable for fast repairs after skirmishes in vaccum.
Properly crewed up, the Corsair makes an excellent Ambush Privateer. Which is it's Primary Function, despite the "Exploration" tag Drake puts on it.
Very "working" ship!
"The Corsair comes relatively well armed for a ship that's definitely not intended for piracy."
I didn't *know* I wanted a Corsair review by Farrister, but I *wanted* a Corsair review by Farrister.
great review
When the salvage missions had worthwhile cargo, I fufilled the meme; I was using my Corsair to explore other ships cargo bays
Can use rooftop position to survey/dominate an LZ, have seen video of someone killing ships from the roof with a railgun in space...
I use the roof for assassination missions for planet/moon surface
i do think that in some dangerous place , it will be a must for self defence , your Boxs need the best ! :p
If anyone wanted another reason to buy the Corsair, you CAN fit an argo cargo in it (and an ursa same time haha). You must not use landing gears, line it up against floor and turn off engine, it will lock like unsnapped cargo crates (will not move in fights, quantum, etc). ALSO it fits 4 fury's comfortably
ive been waiting for this review for awhile
It's always funny to see how developers think that military style ships would have all those fancy hydraulic opening/closing-mechanisms. Nope, all of that would be "powered" by human muscle. High risk of injury, needs maintenance and costs way too much. Well, that's where the "fiction" in sci-fi comes into play, I guess. Rule of cool and all that. :)
Anyway, these reviews are actually really fun to watch. Even for people who do not play the game.
there is also in each room a drawer under the bed which is separate storage from the main ship storage.
forgot to mension that the co pilot can fire the rockets from the remote turrets at all directions.
You missed the 4 gun recks for 4 rifles and 4 handguns, the secret flask in the kitchen and the (shared) storege under the beds..
Ah, sorry!
Oh, the grit of Drake! It's just so recognisable. You could have the connie, but would it have the character?
Grit - you're right there!
All the corsair does is make me want a connie rework :D I also love how easy it is to get into and out of at every spot. Just A+ design if you can handle how big the cross section is.
Same, i still have a old price taurus which makes it super efficient but the old style is hard to love
@@N0xtron keep the faith. It will come eventually
I was hoping you were gonna update some reviews!
Thats one heavilly armed "exploration ship"
"exploration" xD
