The 3DS eShop is shutting down, and it is okay.. | hSHOP 3DS Homebrew

- As of March 27, 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It will also no longer be possible to download free content, including game demos. Using hShop via 3DS CFW is looking like the best option moving forward.
As this date draws closer, related services will cease to function:
As of May 23, 2022, it is no longer possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
As of August 29, 2022, it is no longer possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until March 27, 2023.
Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until March 27, 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
No changes are planned for Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
The changes to Nintendo eShop on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems will simultaneously take effect in software on these platforms where it is possible to make purchases, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, Theme Shop and Nintendo Badge Arcade.
Even after March 27, 2023, and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

I just recently did this, is so good, the only bad thing is that the battery is pretty bad, but it's so good playing ds games with full compatibility and 3ds with dlcs and all

I just modded my 3DS and got the hShop, it’s such a blessing. It’s still gonna be sad to see the 3DS and Wii U stores close, truly the end of an era 😢
Dumb question but are the Dragon Quest games on Hshop? Wondering if I should try and mod one of my spare 3DS so I dn't have to drop money on games in the eShop since theyre digital😅

The 3DS is a terrifically portable console. I also got an Anbernic RG35XX and I’m playing it more than my 3DS, Switch, and Steam Deck.

Remember when the freeshop was available during 2014-2018? That was piracy at its peak.
When that app was installed on your 3DS, it mimicked the eshop app and allowed you to download games, updates, and DLC *_DIRECTLY_* from Nintendo's servers for FREE because you were tricking the servers into thinking that you "already bought" the game, but were just redownloading it. It was crazy.
It was impressive that it lasted for 4 whole years before Nintendo finally patched things up server-side so that their servers wouldn't be tricked anymore.
I know that it was doing the developers dirty by using it at the time, but it was as if the shoulder devil somehow got the shoulder angel that you see in cartoons to look the other way when I was using the freeshop.

I'm kicking myself so hard right now, man. I had every resource lined up for me to get Bank and Transporter legitimately at the March 27th point. Only thing was me not being in a Pokémon phase then. I'm looking at the kart miner tutorials and the brain is certainly melting at this point. I keep getting tech issues that seemingly none of the guides expect to be possible. I want to join the fun, but the brain is goop

You shouldn‘t use the system transfer to another 3DS system
You can still play online, update games you own, see the eshop (which will be useless pretty soon), download updates and DLC for your games/roms from the hshop alternatively and more. There is even a homebrew version for Miiverse (rverse) that revived the service!
Quick question, for Pokémon games downloaded from the hShop, trading or battling, will the online features still work or that’s the downside?
They should still work from what I understand
it has the same features as if you were dumping from your own games because thats basically what it is so online works

Today I opened my 2ds and looked at the state of the shop. Everything can be seen, but not downloaded. Only the stuff you downloaded before I believe. Im downloading picross for the memories, but will mod very soon. This is a dream come true.

The hshop isn't without it's flaws, though. For example, it only has the demo version of Ironfall invasion, leaving no other way of actually getting the game in the future except from shady websites

You can install directly from that QR code, so you don't even need to take your SD card of the 3DS. I think it's FBI > Remote Install > Scan QR code.

Ive been wanting to buy and homebrew a 3ds for a while now as i never had one but with uni and other expenses I'm going to have to wait till at least summer.
With the eshop closer i was worried that i wouldn't be able to homebrew by then and get free games. Is this vid's saying that it shouldn't be an issue apply to my situation? Will i still be able to homebrew and download free games after the eshop closes?
Also, I'm currently living in the US and would probably getting a US region system (in case that's important).

Yes you will be fine. Even if HShop does close you can always add games manually too

What’s CTR Nand?
Not all the games, for example games like NDS games may destroy your 3DS because this files are big and if something wrong with the download process maybe your 3Ds is going to be corrupt and you can lost all your files.
Small files is ok, but remember, maybe the game that your looking for is not available, buy the game you really want to play before the eshop close.

Yes. You can actually install official Nintendo themes from hShop and Badge Arcade will still work with homebrew

The hShop was both a lifesaver and a moneysaver during the countdown to the eShop's shutdown.
Even if the games weren't that expensive (especially when the final sale was happening before the shutdown), the DLC for some games begged to differ. *Especially* the DLC for RPGs which ranged from either being nearly as expensive as the game itself, to being almost *double* the price of the base game!
Also, for those looking to grab specific official themes from the hShop, make sure Anemone3DS (a custom theme manager) is installed on your 3DS. The folks behind hShop haven't figured out how to successfully install themes the way the Theme Shop did and plus the official themes are region locked while Anemone3DS isn't meaning you can easily get themes from other regions.
Also also, the Movies & TV section was removed for multiple reasons. Copyright was one of the reasons, but there were more technical and time consuming problems as well.
hshop is convenient but its the experience gets ruined cause my 3ds gets capped at 150 kb/s :/
But its nice to download a bunch of themes and virtual consoles though.
I’m not sure if anyone is getting this problem and if anyone can help me but for some games that I install off of hshop the motion controls either partially work or don’t work at all and for some games it works perfectly fine i don’t believe it’s an issue with my 3ds in general but I’m not sure how to fix it if anyone could help that would be awesome.
i don't think it even _can_ be an issue due to hshop, since the games are exactly as if it were your own original games, it's most likely actually your hardware

Um,question! Doesn’t anyone use folders?! The only people i see that do are me and my brothers (and i set up my brothers for him). Seriously a basic settings one, a downloaded games one and a homebrew one if yours is hacked! Then decorate the rest!

@@egon3705 personally, games and pirated games just go under one folder called games. Other games obviously pirated and or unofficial (I.E fnaf 1-4 ports) go in the homebrew folder

Yes you need to act. They're two entirely different services. As he as at the verry veging, its a HOMEBREW store. all it's doing is storing the games, dlc, themes, etc. they wouldn't have access to nintendo's internal purchas data.

i've found a frustratingly high amount of homebrew is incompatible with my old 2ds but a lot of stuff (and nearly all retail games) work fine
