      I got my 3DS in 2020. Getting it so early makes me so sad because i never got to experience the peak of the 3DS. streetpass, Miiverse, nintendo zone, online play etc. it really sucks because yesterday i bought a 35 dollar eshop card and was going to get a game and a theme. Yet to find they dont take eshop cards OR credit card funds. So i have to resort to physical copies of the game, which said, is too expensive. And when i first homebrewed/modded it, i just felt like that was the right thing to do since i knew that despite what Nintendo will do, the fans won't stop making this console keep it alive for the longest time as they can. The catalog has so much diversity and charm its been a lot of fun going through some of these as of late. Makes you wonder what happened to all the charm and uniqueness (Mii maker, Streetpass, Themes, Music, etc) and how its just absent on the switch.

    • @pacomatic9833
      @pacomatic9833 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Let me explain.
      Save data is linked to whatever the game is stored on.
      So if I have a game on a game card, then the save is stored on the card.
      If the game is on an SD card, it'll be on the SD.
      If the game is on internal storage, the save will be on internal storage.
      *What I'm saying is: Save data is deleted upon deleting the game.*
      With that said, extra data is always going to be stored on the SD card.
      DLC and updates are not associated with any save data, but if you _delete the update to a game, but not the game itself,_ then your save data will be for a newer version of a game then what you currently have; as such, the game may consider it corrupted and delete the save.

    I used to think that the 3DS was completely obsolete with the coming of the Switch, and I was considering selling mine (my 3DS is a special edition NES so I thought I could make a few bucks), but recently my friend bought one and told me I should buy it so I can ACNL with him, little did he know that I loved that game when I was younger. Somewhat inspired, I grabbed my old, scratched up 3DS and wasted five straight hours just playing New Leaf (not to mention all the other games, like Samus Returns, Ever Oasis, Happy Home Designer, a ton of Pokemon, etc.). And now, I bring the thing with me everywhere, which a lot of my friends have made jokes about. The thing was my childhood, and I hope it’ll someday be apart of my adulthood. Maybe even my kid’s childhoods.

    Just began to feel the pressure of the eShop closing and my chance to revisit this piece of my childhood recently. I got a Steam Deck a while back and after emulating some GBA on it, I realized how good it felt to play games on hardware close in feel to the original layout (Obviously the SD has a lot going on, but a D-pad and a few buttons on either side of a rectangular screen just felt natural). There's nothing out there today like the NDS/3DS line. I just picked up a new 3DS to ensure I can go back and experience all those great games the way they're meant to be played again.

That's not me knocking the switch or deck of course, but I just remembered how insane the charges on DS lites were
      Anyway, I'm happy to hear you were able to secure some GBA memories on your deck and were able to secure a new 3DS. Thanks for being here, Ezlo

      I also got the aqua blue 3ds on launch back then. Loved the game system but hated when it first came out because there wasn't alot of games in the game library at the time of launch. I ended up playing alot of Nintendo dogs 3ds then in later years they finally put some nicer games on it. A few years later I ended up importing an Australian 2ds for the game: Teddy Together 3ds specifically. What killed me was the game has a European release with not only the English language but also 9 other languages for every European game. I called Nintendo Of America on the phone several times asking them about an American release of Teddy Together & was told flat out by the manager of Nintendo of America that they had zero plans to release Teddy Together 3ds for America & to actually import a European 3ds & the copy of the game if I wanted to play it. I imported it but was ticked that I even had to import because of the fact Nintendo Of America was to lazy to release the game over here... 🤦‍♀️ Luckily with the switch it's region free. I play Japanese along with American switch games all the time. Why on earth nintendo region locked the 3ds is totally baffling to me. I knew other gamers back then who bought 3 3ds's: American, European, & Japanese in order to play 3ds games from other regions & had to categorize there 3ds games by region so it didn't brick the system. Other than that I still have my 3ds's & like / enjoy them but the region locking was annoying back then. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️✌️

      3ds is the best console ever released, imo. I also got the red one at first. I was pretty young and destroyed it, eventually. I kept getting them after that, and destroying them. Eventually I got a little older and the frequency at which I destroyed them slowed and I eventually got pretty good at taking them apart. Now I have a second hand battered new 3ds xl in same color of my very first, red. I still have no clue how I managed to continue procuring them after I kept destroying them. My greatest woe was my link between worlds 3ds xl... Losing that one killed my emotions and the trauma deleted my memories of it from my brain. The thing with the 3DS is that, despite being a portable device, it's not necessarily "bite-sized." SMTIV and IV Apocalypse are full-on JRPGs, for example. The Fire Emblem games are long and battles can take ages. Culdcept Revolt (imo one of the 3DS's most underrated, elusive, and obscure titles) is sort of bite-sized, but it's built in a way that matches take ages. Heck, we have Xenoblade Chronicles ad MGS3 on the 3DS. With some enhancements, many of those games would be right at home on a home console or even the PC. I had a GBC growing up and later on I got a DSi XL. And then, much later on I got a second-hand 3DS XL so I could play ACNL and gen 7 Pokemon. The 3DS has since been my favorite gaming device. I'm still primarily a PC gamer, but my 3DS is always in close proximity and I always take it outside on the slim chance I'll get a streetpass. Funny enough, I did get ONE on New Year when coming back home from London.

    • @nikgrgrio
      @nikgrgrio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel, you could not be more right. The 3DS has such a massive catalog of hour-suckers like the games you mentioned and that even though we have PCs and consoles we can take with us on the go, the 3DS still has more than enough space to exist in our setups.
      I also haven't heard of Culdcept Revolt, but I will definitely have to check that one out!

    In my country nintendo was never popular. Many people had region unlocked NES called Dendi (and no one knew it was Nintendo console) and a few owned GBA. And then there were predominantly playstations and PC. So during 3ds times there was one and only PSP. And honestly now as I grew older I feel that I missed out so many good games with 3ds. What a joy it must be to be a kid with 3ds and having friends who had also had it.

    I had only Nintendo consoles until I was 14. I had a DS Lite, DSi, 3DS, Wii and Wii U before then. Now, I like my Series X but I’ve been going back to Nintendo too. I probably spend 3 times as long on my Nintendo consoles compared to my Xbox. If I could only pick one console, It’d be a hard choice between the Wii U (with Wii support and a killer eShop collection) and the 3DS (DS Support and a great shop too). I’ve home brewed my Wii to play CTGP:R but haven’t gotten to doing it on my 3DS yet.

    I just hacked my 3DS a couple weeks ago, and now, not only do I NOT have to worry about the eShop closure, but my 3DS is now also a DS, a portable SNES, NES, and full-fledged GBA, and it all fits on a 128g SD. Food for thought: It's wrong to pirate games, but is paying $75+ dollars for a single game, cart-only, used on eBay any better? Either way, no money goes to the developers and publishers. The only difference is whether or not I get screwed. In the case of "homebrewing", that answer is no. Instead I get to play any 3DS/DS and any retro game I want, whenever I want, wherever I want, for free. ARRRRRR MATEY!

    Plus it's really easy and straightforward

    Bro you need a switch lite with a clamshell case. It fits perfectly in the pocket. My issue with the switch is yeah it's "portable" but not pocketable. A switch lite fixed everything. It has sadly but for the best replaced my pocket spot for the 3ds. I have the OLED on the dock and I don't even play it around the house because the Lite is so much more comfortable to hold. Highly recommend!

  • @SuperMrHolmes
    @SuperMrHolmes ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Despite the switch having a bigger screen, better graphics, and being an all around great console, it still lacks one thing that the 3DS captured very well: charm. If I play on a switch, I may as well be playing on a PSP or a Steam Deck because it only serves the purpose of playing games. The 3DS offers a personal experience in the way of themes, badges, miis, touch screen gimicks, 3DS gimmicks, and online interactablity like streetpass, swapnote, and Flipnote among other features that just makes the whole experience more rememberable, meaningful, and cozy.

    I never had a 3DS growing up despite how much I wanted one. It sucked since I got to play on one of my friend’s 3DS and it was FUN!!!! But the tragic bit was that when my mum finally said I could get one for my birthday, they were discontinued. I’m upset I never got to experience that joyous experience that so many people have talked about. But this passion for the 3DS that I still have to this day more than a decade later has led me to start saving up to get one second hand. I’m very excited! • @anakinjaywalker5522
    @anakinjaywalker5522 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree that the discontinuation of the 3DS eShop won't kill it. Just look at the Wii. A lot of people still play on the Wii even though the Wii Shop Channel was discontinued years ago. And get this, if you homebrew your Wii you''ll have free access to a virtual console that's way better than the switch virtual console will ever be. Homebrew also allows you to use a free bootleg online service that some veterans claim is better than the discontinued Nintendo WFC. You can even install a mod on your Wii that allows you to play DVDs (so now i can watch Revenge of The Sith on my Wii lol). Nintendo thought they could kill their old consoles, but Homebrew allows these old consoles to cheat death.
