  • In this video, I share some of my favorite spinning tools that aren't spinning wheels or spindles! These tools definitely gave me a boost in my spinning and helped me feel like a Spinner with a capital 'S!' I also give an update on my big Winter Project - the Orange Albertine Jacket by Sidsel Hoivik - and my Spin to Weave project. Join me as we turn the seasons once again.

Hi, Becca! Good to see you! I have a little bit of experience with wood, and one thing you may wish to try to get the round piece back into shape (couldn't hurt to try!) is using a damp cloth and an iron on the steam setting. Cover the wood with the cloth and iron the wood, hitting it with stream once or twice. This expands the wood fibers and may just be enough of a temporary fix to have the connecting piece make contact again. Repeat this process as necessary until the desired shape is achieved. Depending on the finish it may not look pristine, but it may just work, so function over beauty, in this case! I loved seeing how to wind by hand using the two fingers. Makes sense and it never even occurred to me! Great job on your FO & WIP! Hugs, always.

Thanks for your suggestion! I'll have to try steaming. You never know, it could just work! Hugs!

Thanks for this great video and sharing your tips.
One of my favorite spinning things is my hand steamer. I set it on the table with steam and run my braids from end to end 2x. I then open the fiber from the back seam and it’s such a smooth fiber to draft and spin. I originally bought it to steam block my garment. Now as a spinner, fiber prep tool.
