  • Hello Friends!
I am a sucker for a magic yarn! I just discovered this brand new yarn line from Red Heart, called Granny Square All In One. Thanks to @TheCrochetCrowd for my latest obsession. It's like a self-striping yarn, but to make crocheted granny squares! In this video, I show you all the colors I have purchased (not sponsored). I also share my thoughts on how this yarn stitches up after making up a few squares, and go over what I found to be the good and not so good characteristics of this novelty yarn in case you want to get some for yourself. Links below as always.
    Let's make some granny squares!

Im not really a fan of granny squares, but i was excited to try this yarn. I just made my first square with it and i love the fact that i only had two ends to weave in.

Weaving in can be a ton of work. I'm looking forward to getting my stack of squares done so I can sew them together with minimal finishing. Happy crocheting!

i just bought the "hot stuff" skein today & i'm watching videos before i start. quick thought -- you could use those tails at the end to weave your squares together. nice work, btw. 😻😻😻😻😻 5/5

That is a great idea! You might need to crochet that last round a bit tighter than I have done it to have enough left over to sew them together. I didn't end up with a very long tail at the end before it changed back to the first color. Good luck with your crocheting!

I really like how you reviewed this yarn. I didn't know it came in so many colors. I use boye hooks, but i have to use the comfort padded handles now. If you can sometime, try this yarn out in a square that's not a granny. Just to see what it would look like.
New subbie here, and will binge all your videos tomorrow

Thank you for your comment and welcome! I haven't tried the comfort padded hooks but I've been tempted. Certainly for long crafting sessions, that would be nice. I am curious how the yarn will work up not in the granny pattern on the label. I'll have to try that out! And there are more colors than the ones I showed. There is a neat green and black one that looks very nice.

Made a blanket out of the colorway HOTSTUFF. 10 squares by 15. It turned out great. Thanks for showing the other colors!

How was the yarn to work with? Did you have any issues with keeping consistent tension or not having enough of each colour to complete rows? That seems to be a common complaint so I’m still unsure if I want to purchase it.

Thank you for this one, Becca! I'm not a granny square fan, and probably wouldn't buy this for granny squares because of how finicky it is... HOWEVER, that 1960's very vibrant one with the white is so cool! I'm wondering how it would work up with just doing regular projects, and how each of the different stitches would effect the patterns it will make. You gave me some ideas! Hugs!

I'm glad you liked it! I am also wondering how the yarn repeats would work if you just did plain stitches rather than granny squares. You would have progressively longer color blocks and then repeat shorter again. That might be really cool! The 1960's one reminds me of vinyl flower stickers that my sister made and put on EVERYTHING she owned lol. I then inherited a bunch of lovely, bright decorated things from her, so this reminds me of my childhood. Hugs to you!

I'm not a huge fan of frogging so I'm wondering if I will like this yarn.

Thank you for your comment. It was a bit fiddly, but it was only a few stitches each round to get the color change to hit in the right spot. I didn't have to pull any squares out completely.

Why add when we in England can’t bye

When I lived in England, I loved that you could buy wool yarn at the department store. I was amazed walking in to the same place where people bought kitchen goods and clothing and they had a huge section for crafts and sewing. I don't know if it's still that way, but that hasn't been the case in the US for a long time - our crafts and sewing have become specialty items. I hope that the company decides to release this yarn for sale everywhere soon and you can try it! Happy crafting to you in England!

Red heart is available on Amazon UK! I’m not sure if this specific yarn is being sold but it will most likely be added soon if not
