Unfortunately, that's not what Amazon's data shows. The majority of people who watch The Grand Tour aren't into cars or motorsport and don't care about segments like this.
It had a real classic top gear flavour to it. They made a whole bunch of films like this between like 2008 and 2013-ish, and it was those films that got me into cars. When I was 19 I literally bought my second car, a Lancia Fulvia, based on my vivid memory of their original Lancia film, shot probably around 2010-2011. This is the kind of stuff that makes these guys worth watching.
This episode was by far the best of the whole show so far. An absolutely incredible film by Jeremy, stunning. And a funny yet well-acted piece from Richard and James, two interesting celebrities, and a good old car review. Keep it up.
Lancia... A Mythical car company, one of the biggest car brand names, with so big history and soooo many technological advances... I love them. Greetings from Greece, from a person that's a big lancisti
This particular Lancia segment is the best they’ve had in the whole season. Everything, the cinematography, the script, Jeremy, cars/interviews, is PURE MARVEL. The production really stands out as being diligent and very well thought out. Alas, the rest of the series seems so forced.
It feels like the spirit of old top gear. The British reminiscence was on full throttle but not like driving on a rocky road but on smooth, silky, magnificently laid gravel. The Grand Tour lacked something, this is probably it.
I 'm italian and i watched this episode with some friends of mine, needless to say we laughted a lot and loved it. This season of gran tour is Amazing and this is my favourite episode so far! Keep on with your Amazing work guys, best carcere show ever!
AutoAgitator Yeah. Not like a certain group of Fanboys who claim the Supra or GTR are the fastest cars. Side note: I really like that Lancia though. As Clarkson put it "completely Italian"
Julian V. How is it, he always criticises lancias in the past but notes that despite their negatives they're some of his favourite cars. Same with lots of different brands, he criticises all of them at points.
Lancia as Alfa Romeo it is just a brand in the hands of big corporates now... it is maybe better having good memories of incredibly beautiful cars than a sad re-brand of some soul-less world car... maybe...
Walter Roehrl is and was a Motorsport Legend. I met him last year at the rally of our neighbour village, where he has driven a Porsche 911 Rsr. I made a picture with him and talked around 2 minutes with him. I've never met such a nice and native person. And he is the reason, why Lancia could win so often.
EnFraBa7 you're point being, lancia has won more championships than any other, and hasn't competed with a factory works team since 91 or had any private team with manufacturer input since 92. Rohrl helped win one of those championships, juha kankunen (the best ever) and miki biason did more than that. Rohrl was good but he wasn't as good as kankunen, as juha didn't go at ridiculous speeds, he was able to find the limit and stay safely below it to finish the season in a very good position. And his ability to do that in so many cars that were so different and with so many teams and manufacturers in different countries when there were much more significant differences to what th modern differences between cars are. Mcrae was superman in a British prepared subaru or ford but in the superior french Citroen he struggled. As did burns coming from successful drives in british prepared Mitsubishi and subaru. Lancia were the top dogs from the 60s until fiat sacrificed them. They had to homologate rally cars so often built good rally cars then tried to make a road car from it. (Ducati style).
For those who haven't seen this short of the Audi Vs Lancia battle, it is one of the greatest shorts in motoring show history. Sell your children if you have to to see it. Clarkson is at his peak in a serious history lecture, something he excells at if you have never seen him present seriously outside of motoring, and the story is almost fantastic, parts are impossible to believe how Lancia did what they did to stay competitive with a 2 wheel drive machine against the might and money of Audi and 4 wheel drive.
If the opponent doesn't have a shitty 4wd car you are fucked. The Audi just isn't a good handling car. Against the later Lancia Delta S4 or the Peugeot 205 you wouln't have a chance in a 037.

Try watching them, I always used to skip until one time my player bugged and i couldn't skip forward, ever since I've just usually watched them, they don't take so long and usually mention some ''vinwiki-like'' stories. As you say, best episode so far
Had 2 Lancias in my life a Beta Coupe and a Scorpion(that's Montecarlo across the pond) and I miss them. Having a Beta Coupe as a 19 year old that had a badge that said Pinanfarina got me a lot of tail. My old girlfriend thought the badge was from Ferrari and told everyone which kept me busy. I just miss the style. Sure there was 5 miles of wiring in the dash but hell, a 1979 car with fiber optic lighting in the dash? Cool. To this day I love the lines on Lancias. If we could just bring back the dead.
This is absolutely glorious. I'm going to take a TON of flak from my fellow Americans for what I'm about to say, but bollocks to them. I will make the argument that the 037 is the greatest rear wheel drive car in history, and here's why. Rally is the purest, most accessible form of racing, and it's done EVERYWHERE. Therefore, it has the popularity and loyalty factor. Then along comes Group B, with it's absolutely bonkers tuning and lack of restrictions (for both drivers and spectators alike), and the inevitable appearance of 4 wheel drive cars in the form of the venerable Audi Quattro. Then along comes Walter Rohrl (a spectacular human being) in an equally bonkers REAR WHEEL DRIVE (yes, that's 2 wheel, not 4) Lancia that positively STOMPED ze Germans in their Audis, in places like the dusty field of rocks known as Acropolis. Yet, for some reason, like Jeremy said, nobody remembers the 037. To me, it's screams Dark Horse. And I like Dark Horses. Especially ones that win against thoroughbreds.
zem0343 there are 2 songs that I was searching within the same scene you're talking about, first one is named "Murder Cries" by Snow Ghosts. Second one I still can't find, and the only clue I have is from Amazon Video's info on that track, named "Broken Arrow".
Fun Fact, the Quattro was not the first AWD rally car. The 4WD rule in rallying existed because in 1972 (or was it ‘73) a privately entered Jeep Grand Wagoneer nicknamed “Moby Dick” and was deemed to have an unfair advantage because it had 4WD. Sure, it couldn’t handle for shit, it weighed more than most planets and it look 5 days to accelerate. But it was basically indestructible and had more grip than anything else.
This is Intenza Emozione at the highest level. What a look!!!;......What a design!!!;..............What a Car!!!! The Lancia 037.......'Behold The Masterpiece';......'Behold The Legend'. Awe inspiring. 👏👏👏
Easily one of the most menacing and striking looking cars ever. And it's not even loud, obnoxious, or attention-seeking. It's so effortless in being aggressive.
Even better than Clarkson's slot - try Chris Harris's trio of Lancias (Stratos, Delta S4, and 037). He's in the co-driver's seat alongside Markku Alen and Juha Kankunnen, But the icing on the cake is possibly the best five minutes of car programme ever - Chris alongside Paulo Andreucci (multiple Italian Champion) in the Evo 2 037 that's really being pushed. The only time I've ever seen Harris genuinely scared in a car. Just search for 'Harris, Rally Heaven' to find it.
Attilio Bettega died in the rally 037 because of its bouncy rear end. And later Henri Toivonen in his Delta S4. It really was *do or die* with Lancia back then.
037 was too hard to drive on anything other than dry, smooth tarmac on a sunny day, and the drivers were asked to keep up with the 4WD rivals. Not really a fair deal.

Hold my spaghetti.
the Sierra cosworth was the last 2wd car to win a wrc event 1988

I once owned a 1979 Lancia HPE the last Italian car I owned, put me off Italian anything for life !
When Lancia said, "Hold my beer" and "watch this" to Audi.
Season 2 of GT is really good.
Now we want the story about Alfa Romeo vs Mercedes in dtm
This is Intenza Emozione at the highest level. What a look!!!;......What a design!!!;..............What a Car!!!! The Lancia 037.......'Behold The Masterpiece';......'Behold The Legend'. Awe inspiring. 👏👏👏
Italian masterpiece
That's as Italian as it gets!
That car has always captivated me. It's looks and performance are iconic
Легендарная тачка, однозначно -)
I loved this story. Inspiration. Shows how to work the same system that keeps the people with the most money in power.
Attilio Bettega died in the rally 037 because of its bouncy rear end. And later Henri Toivonen in his Delta S4.
It really was *do or die* with Lancia back then.
Attilio died because the rollcage failed. Lancia strengthened the cage in this area afterwards.
037 was too hard to drive on anything other than dry, smooth tarmac on a sunny day, and the drivers were asked to keep up with the 4WD rivals. Not really a fair deal.
I mean we have a lot of great looking cars today...but this O 37...this is out of this world!
Damn what is that songs name?
