Also having the same exact impression driving the X70. It's a departure from Protons of old, but it reminds me a lot of a modern VW. Everything done very well and capably. And with that my father actually cancelled the Tiguan booking and went for X70 instead

I dont know, but i feel proud. Many said its a china made car..but the badge still use our own national car..the world is borderless now..you must face it..and be proud with the badge..its carry our own identity..malaysia is multiracial just let stand together.
It might be china made, but it has conti dna. Most of the technical spec of this car came from volvo. Only the engine was originally patented by mitsubishi gdi technology which was acquired by volvo.
Proton team did a lot of things to it as well, hundreds of engineers worked in Chin to change it from Right hand drive to left hand.

@Mohd Khalid He did not sell Proton. He sold land. Totally different. You see in his home state, he has allowed a walled up China district. Walls have always been divisive in nature rather than protect. The 1961 Berlin wall. The 1996 Gaza barrier. And the probably the would be build Trump mexico wall. We have a small China is Malaysia. China town does not count.

At this price point, what more can we ask. It is the best that money can buy period.
Cheaper than the CRV and the Boyue in China is highly rated compared to the crank with a platform based on the first gen XC60 which is Volvo's best seller and NA best car nominee for a few years (IIRC). Has many great points going for it. Glad it shows.

@@MrPrawnstarz7 its the taxs. The car that produces here has a huge taxs other country cars are cheap outside. Such as Brunei car. I can buy me a bmw for the price at 120k malaysia ringgit but with taxs =200k that why

Just pause for a moment and think about all the brands that Bobby and Kon are mentioning in comparison - Mazda, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc. Definitely they are not saying the X70 is on par, but that it can come within reach of those brands, at its list price, well, that says a lot about the X70. Well done, well done.
If Mazda or Honda or other conti is accorded the same taxes to Proton with no PROTECTION, the comments might change
Does that mean that without taxes or protection, the ride quality, build quality of the Mazda/Honda will automatically be much better than what it already is? It’s a matter of pricing, which is independent of the actual product, but that just my opinion la. I personally own a 2nd Gen CX-5 and I’m impressed by the X70 after having seeing it at KLIMS. I still like my CX-5, but I’ll call a spade a spade and say that the X70 is really competitive!
@@hideiyoshinakamura9286 i think most of the hondo made in Malacca la. So got same tax as proton too. Except for their CBU model got maybe 30% more tax which is a quite rare model only got.

X70 truly a game changer for proton
My dad get the premium x70 on Monday, and I test it, it is super damn nice and stable, we love it
Value for money car... This car now go to other higher level that can easily compete with other big manafacture... Congrats proton & geely..
In fact, Geely is the second large manufacture in China, only below VW. Much higher than Toyota and Honda, etc.
I remember when I first started working in Kuala Lumpur in 1996, I bought my first car which was a proton Wira 1.5L an Export Model which was ahead of The technology at that time in 1997. It had very rejuvenating massage seats. I say man ...No other cars had the same technology at that time. Not even Mercedes or BMW. What do you expect? At the height of the speed at 120km/hour, the Wira ENGINE worked so hard that the whole car was vibrating

I'm impressed of this x70 , it is a lot of premium touches in this car compared to some Japanese rival (like CR-V and X-trail) and the build quality is rather German feel.... feels very nice I would say

Test drive X70 today , it really did impress me a lot. The NVH level is good. it is very comfort and smooth . For a price point of RM 120k ++, is a good bargain.

its a luxury car, 👍🏻 its comfortable, smlm saya masuk kereta mmg premiummm,. murah pun murah . paling rare fungsi bila kita parking kereta , kita turunkan sikit tingkap pastu klau tetiba hujan kt luar, dia automatik tutupkan tingkap tu ..lagi satu fungsi penyejuk ekzoss kt bumper belakang.. 👍🏻 setiap part ada fungsinya

Looking to get my X70 soon
When I test drove my Savvy back in 2006 right before I bought it, I fell in love with the handling. Since I was still a student back then, I got the manual version coz it's cheaper and also easier to maintain. So in that sense, I've always believed that Proton can make/rebadge/produce good cars.
The problems come in the after service sector. I owned that Savvy for 8 years. Over that 8 years I've had problems with the fuel sensors, exhaust pipe, and few other minor issues but Proton 3S centers were never able to solve it for good. Not to mention that service time is so slow compared to the Japanese guys.
So I don't doubt that Proton has good vehicles but I do doubt the support that they can provide their customers with. And one might argue at RM100k price tag, it might be a bigger concern.
I still have my 2006 Savvy. Am not one to compare & complain, but having issues with a car point to some lack of maintenance on our part...skipping scheduled servicing, not immediately checking out a weird noise under the hood etc. All the same, what can't be fixed by Proton after sales usually can be fixed by an independent mechanic. And yes, had problems with the A/C and speedo/ odo sensor, but got mine replaced at a potong kereta parts shop. I can just point out not many years ago, VW Msia had it bad with its after sales prompting a demo by its buyers. They improved, replaced the omputeh GM and the rest is history. So give the Proton Service centres a 2nd chance.😀
@@Balangair1 I would've given their aftersales a second chance had I not known better. After sending my wife's Myvi (which is the same price as the Savvy) to Peroduo (aka Daihatsu aka Toyota) service center, my eyelids were ripped wide open. Holy shit, I never imagined an official service center could be so efficient. Better than my mechanic! Sure they cost a but more but they keep service records, they work fast, they were transparent... And this is only Perodua!
I now drive a second hand Hilux. I am looking to change my truck for a more family oriented SUV but I will not be the gullible Guinea pig for Proton again. I am open to purchasing their vehicles again, but I'm gonna give it sometime and read up on their reviews 1 year from the launch of X70. See whether China can improve the company or not.

Well, 1 man's poison is another man's meat bro. My point is that Proton had after sales issues, but so did the others makes. I used Kancil and Kembara too years ago. And it wasn't all rosy. My Kembara had major issues from week 1 only solved grudgingly by the dealer when the whole steering assembly was replaced. My Dad (since departed) had a terrible time with his VW DSG unit. Not resolved at all forcing a quick car sale. But, that's just part & parcel of owning cars.😀
We have to accept the fact that without Geely, proton will never launch this kind of car in Malaysia.

Ya najib did make a good move on collaborate with geely but u must know that najib want to sold proton to china. Thanks to tun M proton was saved. Malaysia proton share holder got 51% whereas geely china got 49%.. Najib just think about his own benefit.. Proton is the very first Malaysia car product. How come najib want to sell the whole proton to geely china?!

Agreed. Having govt services open till 10pm is excellent. Good for those who can only make it after office hours. Too bad the new govt wants the closing hours scaled back to 7pm!

Bobby Ang . Nicest review! Can you clarify what you mean that Cx-5 is a great suv which you said many times? My mom have Cx-5 2.0 Mazda. I find it very stable but slow pick up. Personally I find the new Crv 1.5 turbo and Tijuan 1.4 turbo more appealing! But I do not want sportiness with bumpy ride. Since you have a lot of motoring connections, do you think the x70 Proton will be as reliable as mainstream makes? I need to replace my old Vios hopefully before CNY.

As for the car’s electronics, I hope that they are robust enough to withstand our weather. I say this because my 6 months old HONDA CRV which has Honda sensing has its screen lighted up sometimes, indicating that there are some problems with some of your electronics. But when you stop and switches the engine off and on again, the problem goes away!

Hi Bobby, nice review there! after watching the differences between the standard and premium variant, I preferred the premium variant (more safety features) , but I am wondering is it advice-able if I downsize the tire to 17" like the standard variant for more comfort and economy, I believe the 19" tire can easily reach thousand + a piece. By downsizing the tire size, will it affect the functionality on the gearbox?

Should have go for X70 since the premium X70 2WD version much much cheaper than the Xtrail.huhu.. You should have also test drive the AWD version on cornering and tell us about it. Good work Bobby!
Bobby, they do have the Proton Link app that connects to the X70 right (can use the app in the Android phone to flash the headlights / activate the horn / open the rear trunk / open and close the window and also control the window ventilate mode on or off). I believe if Proton Geely is really wanting to improve further in this case (of controlling the X70 via your Android phone), they should update the app to be able to remote start the X70 and also switch on the HVAC system as well to pre-cool the interior prior before thr owner/passanger enters their X70 and drive away. Now that will certainly be more 🇩🇪 car feel eh? Oh ya I do hope you'll get a X70 Premium unit for a longer test drive to test the ACC (test it in our local traffic jam and also our 'usual' Malaysian highway speeds eh (and also at dark, no street light highway locations and also during heavy rain please?).

Hi Bobby, we have now Geely Emegrand X7 1.3L Turbo sold in Egypt. Would it have anything in common with the proton x70 (I mean in the quality of stability and chassis and the driv8ng experience)?!
This car is so high tech. Well in the highest end model anyway. Can't say the same for the lower end models.
