  • A leather bomber or flight jacket can take anyone from boring to badass in seconds, even if it's just a look. The men and women who conquered the skies in the American Military pioneered some of the most timeless designs in jacket history. The A1 Jacket with its button front and knit collar, the A2 with it's looks so rugged that it's the jacket of choice for Indiana Jones! Maybe you're after the Top Gun look, in which case you need look no further than the G1 jacket with its mouton collar and timeless style. Or perhaps one of the shearling bomber jackets for the ultimate warmth while pwning n00bs from your couch. Whichever you choose I give you my picks for excellent examples which you can buy now and have for the res of your life.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

i have my grandfathers g1 bomber jacket from when he served on an aircraft carrier during the korean war. he never flew but did fold parachutes, so it never had badges sewn in for id or anything or saw much wear. its spent nearly 70 years sitting almost untouched and its possibly my most appreciated and prized belonging.

I grabbed a Satchel & Page bomber last spring based on your recommendation. I was impressed when it arrived but it was to warm to wear. I’m in south Jersey and it’s finally been cold enough! I couldn’t be happier. Great feel and quality. Thanks for recommending it and really sorry to hear it’s no longer available. I also got a duffle bag from them. That’s awesome too!

If you want the best get the cockpit USA g-1 or a-2. my dad got an avirex (now cockpit USA) jacket back in the early 80's and still wears it today. In 2014 when I became a pilot i was gifted a mustang a-2 they are the toughest jackets, you can toss them on the ramp, or stuff them in the baggage and never blink an eye. Cockpit USA has had gov contracts for the a-2 and to top it all off they made the jackets for top gun 1 & 2 and the right stuff.

Was an army aviator tdy to Moffett NAS in the late 70s and navy supply issued a new A2 to me and gave me an older used one from a salvage bin. For the rest of my career, I continued to wear that jacket as well as a one piece navy flight suit and as a senior captain and then a major, no one ever questioned me as to why, as an army officer, I wore navy flight equipment. The army’s concentration on rotary wing aircraft meant that their equipment was designed for bug smashing speed so those of us who were fixed wing aviators comprised a very small percentage and we were basically like an illegitimate child. No one cared about us, so we were a bit on the eccentric side and since we flew high performance aircraft, navy and Air Force equipment was more suitable. Well, I finally out grew my A2 jackets and gave them away. A year or so ago, I was in a thrift store and found a Schott Brothers A1 that appeared to be new and never worn. My size and $20 was more than reasonable since those with a made in the US label, like this one, retail for over $600. It in much nicer than either of the A2 jackets I had previously owned.

I had an original B3, when I was a child here in the UK, (back in late 70's early 80's) not sure where it came from, i seem to remember an aunt giving it to me as i was interested in WW2 aircraft, but it disappeared as I grew up, shame loved it.

Carl, I think you have a great contribution to the men's favorite products. Like you, I love leather jackets and boots. I have over 20 leather jackets, a mixture of A2, A1, MA1, Indiana, Moto, Higgs English Jasper Jacket, and a Florence Harrington.
I should say the jackets I truly admired are from Cockpit USA, ie. the D.MacArthur WWII copy, and the A1, which is made of a very soft Lambskin. For the Indiana, Wested is my favorite maker. I also have the US Wings' A2 and Indiana, which are of a very high quality craftsmanship.
The Calfskin Moto I have is made by Marc New York. Top quality jacket! The Florence Jacket is a good Autumn/Spring jacket, as it is very light. The last jacket to mention, but not the least, is my Lambskin MA1, which is made by Wested. probably it is the jacket I love most.

Like the B-7 parka, however it is expensive and hard to find in Canada. Can't even find something similar.

I buy my jackets from US Wings. They are contractor for the US military and its veteran owned. Price will vary depending on jacket and type of skin. The best time to get a jacket is when it's on clearance or just before the holidays.

I appreciate your video - buying from Pakistan is they way to save money - you may have to go to your to taylor -enforce the buttons, etc. [- but when saving thousands, it is worth it

    I wear a U.S. Wings goatskin A2 as my go-to spring-summer-fall jacket.
For winter I wear Cockpit USA's "Dakota" version of the B3 which extends the length from the normal waist level to the upper thigh and adds a removable fur lined hood. It looks like the bastard love child of a regular B3 and the B7. I like that it gives extra coverage without being too long to easily get into a vehicle.
One thing you don't see mentioned in the reviews is that wearing a shearling jacket like the B3 with just a T-shirt underneath feels like being hugged by a gigantic teddy bear. :)

I own a Cockpit USA B7 parka and it's just the warmest thing EVER! Amazing brand and that's coming from a european. Also I would tell you to go for the Aero Leather (brand) version of B7 parka or the B3 jacket instead of Etsy! It's one of the first brands to make these kind of jackets and are coming from UK

Musterbrand had a run of 4 styles (lightweight "Tank Captain", medium weight "Tank Commander", waterproof "Tank Gunner", and leather "The Front") for their World of Tanks line. I've removed the badge & epaulette eyelet from mine. I get compliments on these jackets, and know that I'll never run into someone wearing the same one. They are no longer made, but can be found on eBay and Amazon.

how would you guys prep/condition a Shearling B3 style jacket for snow/wet weather... and also how about a wool Pea Coat... what products would you recommend... I've given up my Military Parka N-3B as my wet weather cover... since all the boys and girls in NYC seem to be rocking them this winter and just cornered the market on the look... I have both the B3 and Peacoat but I don't usually wear them out when snow falls and if I recall correct last time I got caught in Snow with the peacoat I was covered in snow and it just kept sticking and pockets / sleeves just were super damp... thanks!

I bit on a B3 jacket on E-Bay. And I was lucky nobody saw that Auction....so I got mine for the Unbelievable price of only 79€. The usuall price for it was 599€
I can't tell you how happy I was( and still am) when I have won that auction.
It is made out of heavy Genuine Leather. And I LOVE it....it's a total eyecatcher here in germany.😊😊😊

I picked up a new Cockpick USA Avirex G1 in NYC in 1990 and still have it today. It is made in the USA and is in calfskin. If you take good care of it, it will last a lifetime!

Could you do a full review on the B3? I absolutely cannot afford one and they don't sell in any stores near me. Could you give me information like the approximate pile length and texture? Planning on getting one made of a finer synthetic mink sherpa and Melton Wool shell. Then I can make it out of acrylic Melton to sell to the vegan Market. Its also a very simple jacket to make in terms of construction. Very utilitarian.

If anyone is looking for a reasonably priced g1 jacket, there is one, that unfortunately isnt leather, for about $110. The brand GUESS has a black, wool g1 jacket that Is extremely accurate, but is a little tight around the shoulders. It is nice when it is windy as it is great with keeping it out. I got mine for $10 on poshmark, so I got mine for cheap. Would definitely recommend.
