- Always wanted a flight jacket like Leon wears from the original Resident Evil 4? Well thanks to the 2023 Remake, you can get it in the form of the Schott B3 Bomber. If like me, the retail price was too high, go used. In this video I’ll be showing how to restore a leather jacket the right way to get something nearly as good for a fraction of the cost. You may even learn a thing or two along the way!

there is a thread on schottnyc dating a very similar jacket, meaning the tags and features match up. Especially it's missing "Schott" on the side buckles. This gives a clue to the manufacturing date. "GALE" from Schott said that with "Schott" missing on the buckle means it is manufactured either between 1981-1984 or 1986/1987
That sounds like a great find! Do you have a link to the thread? That information would tally with the more recent B3's I've seen from Schott and their embossed buckles.

Found it! Thanks to you, and of course "GAIL" 🙏. If what she says is true, then that means my jacket was in fact produced during the 1980's. I'm even more impressed with it's condition, and will wear it with a newfound respect. It's seen more life than I have!
@@EnemyStep the reason why I found the thread was because I myself have also acquired a schott b3 with also no schott on the buckle. what a coincidence huh us three, with the same schott b3 from the 1980s, some might call us schott bros hehe
How did it end smelling? Did it smell fresh when you were done, or were there any lingering odors?
In my opinion, it looks even better than new. It's got that rugged charm and a wicked texture that only comes from being well-loved and worn over time. Good job brother!

Just coming back after a year to say the jacket is still serving me extremely well! Was insane to see this video go from 4k views when I first bought my jacket to nearly 300k now! Really cool dude! My current girlfriend happens to be a big fan of Leon Kennedy (hasn't even played an RE game haha) and when I first showed her I had the jacket she went crazy. I also happen to already have a passing resemblence to Leon so I've always felt cool wearing it in general. It has also (more importantly) been there for me during the bitter british winters. I always had a feeling that Leon's RE 3.5 jacket, was the same we got in the final game, just a tad bit more worn down
As a lover of leather and shearling jackets, this video was excellent. Learned quite a bit about cleaning, treating and conditioning leather so it keeps its quality and texture. Amazing how it went from that worn and vintage camel colour to a deep and lustrous dark coco. Wicked stuff, glad this video found its way to me.

As US Naval aircrew you get issued a bomber jacket, bombers are my favorite type of jackets.
I have never played any resident game, but I really do want that jacket. I am familiar with leather, even made a few projects.

As soon as that first teaser dropped I immediately hit up ebay for one of these jackets. Scored one in great nick from Japan, odd they only seemed to have them in Japan hah!. Mine could do with a clean up but I've don't think I'd trust myself to do it. The wool on mine is nice and fluffy, it's just the leather itself that needs conditioning.

Just take your time with the saddle soap and wipe it off quickly. You'll keep the jacket in better condition if you look after the leather, so believe in yourself! Thank you for the feedback 🙏

@@ondrejreiser442If you've given it a saddle soaping and a fresh coat of your chosen conditioner, you can top it up as it dries. You may get some areas which dry out quicker than others, so keep an eye on it.
If it gets marked or stained try to wipe it off or blot it dry. If the leather ends up staining, that's when I'd go for a light saddle soaping of the area. Once it's been cleaned, condition it as required.
Use your best judgement and trust the process 💪

I did the same thing last year, but the REmake jacket is actually quite different pattern wise most notably the new one has a bigger collar, it's more narrow and longer. The biggest difference is the new version has a more reddish tinge to the leather. The vintage jackets are definitely the best for budget though 😁
The original game had Leon wear a B6 Bomber, which is a trimmed down version of the full B3. The B3 is closer to what Leon wore in the early build of RE4 or "Hookman Demo", and Capcom decided to opt for it in for the Remake . Both gorgeous pieces of modern history, and worthy of being in the wardrobe! Hope you keep your jacket for the years to come 👍

I just bought a brand new one from the website after I beat Re4 remake … I didn’t know that it can “get dry” after a few years… I’ll be keeping an eye on mine.. I love it so much but haven’t worn it much cause winter is over in nyc lol

I always wished to have this jacket when I was a kid in 2005 , It was and is just way too expensive tho. Not to mention getting something that is made in USA is pretty much impossible where I am from. Great video and editing btw.

Go with a natural conditioner rather than anything containing silicone or synthetic ingredients. Any saddle soap should do.
I'm a 41 chest so I opted for the 40 jacket. The body is a bit long for me personally, so factor that in when you're looking around.
Do I really want to watch an almost 15 minute long video about restoring a leather bomber jacket that leon wears? Yes.
Best of all, you can now sell it. Not bad if one sold per week.

Wow, talk about a lovely coincidence! I had bought a similar Schott jacket from a japanese seller on ebay around the same condition as yours sometime last year, and was resigning myself to wearing it as is because I had feared using any kind of product on such a jacket would cause damage. Can't wait to try this touchup routine out for myself when I get the time. But I have to ask, did you get a thorough feel for the jacket before and after you touched it up? I ask because the arms on my jacket are quite stiff for lack of a better term, and I'm hoping this routine will help soften it up and make moving them around a little bit less tense. Thanks for the stellar video, man. Keep it up, can't wait to see what you do next!

Would you recommend using BOTH the Renapur Balsam _and_ the Redwing for the conditioning? Or two coats of either of these products?
I saw how the Redwing darkened the jacket, however it did also look darkened after using the Renapur. Is that just because the jacket was still a bit damp from the initial coating?

Looking back I would go with the red wing natural conditioner. Any balms with wax are quite heavy, and don't saturate the leather as well. On a newer jacket a wax is more effective, but given how old the Schott is I'd rather get it oiled to prevent further damage from dehydration.
The fatty oils will darken leather more than lighter oils, with Mink being one of the heavier ones. Just avoid anything with silicone or synthetic ingredients if you wish to follow my advice. Best of luck with the jacket!

@@LifeOfRy Not the "All Natural Conditioner" that I used. They do sell a "Mink Oil" tin, but that contains silicone. If you look for any leather oils which are specifically "All Natural" you're good.

Glad you enjoyed it! Always been a fan of the full B3 jacket ever since I discovered flight jackets. It was the right choice for the remake, and Schott leather wear is 1st class.
