A fabulous moment Tom. Much appreciated and viewed all the way from Australia
Me too.
What an absolute wonderful video Tom. Everything about it was first class, your suit, your presentation, the amazing miniature gun, the outtakes. One of the best.
He looks so dickish tho....
I visited Purdey in London when I was in the market for a fine hand made English shotgun.
The associates completely ignored me while they fussed around a member of the British aristocracy.
The British class system was in clear view,I waited for forty minutes and then decided an American had no place here.
Long story short I am now the proud owner of a Holland&Holland .
I had a first hand conversation with an ex H&H gunsmith, who had semi retired down to the village we live in. Many years ago a double barrel rifle was discovered "in the white" in a overlooked cabinet on site. Upon further investigation, the American client who had placed the original order (so 5 years previously) was identified and contacted to arrange a second fitting and finalise engraving details etc. Apparently the first reaction from the client was "Wow I didn't think it would be ready this quickly!!" Seeing first had the gunsmith attention to detail with some minor adjustments he made to one of my guns, I can assure you you have the finest piece of English gunsmith craftsmanship, that looked after will serve many generations.
How did you know they were aristocracy?
That miniature gun was truly amazing 👏
Love the outfit for this video! Might have to get a suit like that for myself! Wonderful video as always.
Agree. He looks amazing.
Couldn’t agree more, excellent suit
Kent and Haste for bespoke….Sackville Street. A fabulous tailor…..the Rakes tailor….my tailor. Worth every penny.
I thought the same thing.
@@mikewinston8709My first bespoke suit also came from Sackville Street, Meyer and Mortimer, with fantastic service from Mr Munday. A suit I still have today, 30yrs on. Can't get in it though....😂
What a great video. For me the highlight is Tom's suit .Very elegant. This is bespoke at its finest.
Glad The Rake has this TH-cam channel. I get the magazine every two months and enjoy the content, interviews and styles presented. Good work.,
Delighted
An edifyingly wonderful video, thank you, so much.
Absolutely marvelous! Thanks for the excellent tour of the legendary Audley House!!
Tom has exceptional style
Another well put together video. Love the out-takes at the end.
Another informative episode, absolutley splendid, thank you.
So much of your content makes me miss my late Father.
Congratulations Tom and the team one of your best... Keep it all up....
Thank you.
Love that side look "Did I just scratch the table?"
Purdey, are also known for their beautiful clothing.
I've styled an amazing deer skin jacket and tweed waistcoat for women. The waist coat has padding for the shooting shoulder and can move for those who are lefties.
An amazing brand with some exquisite craftsmanship.
For me, this is your best film yet. I won’t be alone I suspect, in particularly enjoyed 8:26 … very well done
Must be one of the most impressive stores in the world. I’m blown away.
Outstanding presentation
Tom, you're fantastic! Keep them coming please!
A Superb video ! Thank you!
I am not a weapons enthusiast, but I recognize all the art put in each one. Wonderful video.
Fascinating!
I like the bloopers at the end. Sometimes we need to laugh at ourselves.
Excellent video! Glad to see your video and audio quality have improved so greatly!
luv luv your channel Tom!!! classic British tradition!
A very interesting view inside Purdey.
Back in 1978(ish) I was grouse beating on a Scottish estate and Prince Charles joined the shoot. Late in the day while holding the line through some gorse I fell over a low wall and landed upside down at the Prince’s feet. While I got myself upright, the Prince asked how I was and I got a great view of one of his Purdey guns, the other being held by his loader, an absolutely stunning piece of craftsmanship. I think they were made for George VI.
Great video! Many thanks for the high quality informative coverage 🤝
One of my favorite youtubers. Brilliant.
I love your Videos. Always enjoyable.
Words fail me. A truly magnificent video of a truly magnificent firm 👏
very nice episode
These videos only keep getting better!
these episodes are really adorable🧡
Wonderful Episode!
killer ep!
Fab video. A friend took me to a few farms he has a rough shoot on and lumped me with his old side-by-side. He used his very posh over and under... oddly, I found the side-by-side much more instinctive to get along with than his O&U .
Great video! For a GREAT shop. I went years ago and bought a fantastic raincoat( still fantastic after many years) and a jumper and shirt for a friend of mine. The shop assistant was very kind and helpful for the right size to choose. I didn't dare to ask to see the Long Room.
Next time show even the Lady's clothes
Awesome ❤
Great work!
I fitted a kitchen 15 years ago for a woman who was Purdeys book keeper..rather a large lady. When I dismantled her kitchen tins of beans were so old they had all dried up and the cans were reduced to rust and dust. She had merry Xmas cards that were over 10 years old still sat on her mantle piece..and her garden was so over grown the bushes were above her roof..you could not get in the garden.
Purdey made a brace of guns for me a few years back and I have never been happier.
Amazing! Congratulations on that commission!!
So they made you 2 guns.,
@@sitbone3one is a sawn off🎉
He does so love an homage.
Nice whistle!
I've bought so many items from them, it really is top notch. The Long Room seems to have been opened for visitors more often recently. I haven't visited in quite a few years though, oddly I never felt particularly welcomed by the staff. Perhaps it's changed and I should return.
WIOW! An introduction what my bosses get up to at the weekend.
Another fine and informative video! You have a stick...and you have a cased gun: do you have to carry them both or can you use the stick while a porter handles the gun cases?
Being smart is appealing and truly human.
Superb Lad superb
Well put together video, especially 1/10 tips. A lot of new guns would do well to watch this
I always make sure my Scotch has been given the nod by a Royal before I touch it.
The hip flask pocket was not mentioned in the gear, Guess it is taken for granted.Cheers
Tom thanks for digging deeper in classic british brands, most of them I already follow over insta. One suggestion though, brands like purdey and the lock co are known for their craftsmanship but your camera team often fails to show those details via close up shots . It's their texture, thread count, fit and finish for what these brands are known for. Try giving us more in-depth knowledge by wearing these clothes and more detailed shots of these products.
Cheers From California 😎
Glad that Tim Nice-but-Dim found a job. 😂😂
nice day, appreciated from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Nice suit!
I understand tht the video had tim constraints and that you not only wished to impart the strong Royal Connection that Purdey's quite rightly enjoys and the ultimate level of craftmanship it's artisans exhibit; but you did not mention on how that even before the Shitgun is begun to ber made the buyer has his/her measurements taken eg length of arm, forearm which eys is used for sighting , so that the shotgun / rifle is FULLY bespoke
My Grandfather had a couple of Purdeys...beautifully engraved... unfortunately my simple minded father gave them away to family and friends...What I discovered now after 70years. Has left me shell shocked to say the least.😢😮😢....
Excellent pretension thank yuo
Woooooooow
Amazing suit. By the way, how tall you are if you dont mind me asking.
I would never exchange this for any woke ideologies.
Lovely film Tom. I'm actually on a moth shoot in Perthshire in July if you would like to join me?
I love the brand but can’t get my head around wearing a tie in the woods
I think that if I ever had to do a heist, I'd do so dressed like Tom and using a Purdey. I would then escape in an e-type to my Riva moored in the South of France. The two questions would be: a. Would it be wrong to saw off a Purdey? b. Does Tom have any good recommendations for suppliers of bespoke balaclavas...🤔
Once you see that this guy looks like a young Donald Trump you cannot unsee it.
Moths! Gadzooks! They’re the teddy bears of the insect world!! 😂
Until they attack your tweed.
@@sitbone3 Well, that’s a fair point, hmmm, yes, shoot them!
it's a bit odd to carry your umbrella around indoors isn't it .... does the roof leak?
The question is - Purdey or Holland & Holland?
For me it has to be Purdey (or actually Boss as long as we're dreaming), but it's an excellent question. Although, every time I get the chance to pick up a Holland Royal, I can't help but second-guess myself. 😋
And which makes the best sawn-off?😂
Who told you I was writing for disney?
After watching this video my phone started as a nokia an turned into an i phone
I think this fellow probably works fairly hard.
Red socks!…………no. But I do enjoy this content….keep it up!
I can explain....... just give me a chance to 😅
over & unders are banned on my shoot
we are all not snobs.
Clockwork orange music?
Henry Purcell (music for the funeral of Queen Mary). Purcell is about as English as you can get
@@dcpayne5264
Correct!
I watched for the leather luggage....sadly you didn't bother with that important aspect of Purdey's heritage....
Referring to King George V, what is a "prolific shot"? He shot a lot, perhaps. Why is that useful information?
It's fair to say King George V was obsessed with shooting, I think. You should check out some of his gamecards from books like 'Ollie' about the Marquess of Ripon. For Victorian Royals and Aristocrats, shooting was there lives - betting huge fortunes on live pigeon shooting and funding grousemoors, etc to bag thousands of birds in a day.
It is part of the story of
Purdey! That’s why!
£150,000+ will get you into the ball park for something beautiful.
Ughhhh I should have known it was you
Interesting episode but I always get a little bit annoyed when they never tell the cost of the items??? I guess it’s because people wouldn’t believe they could be so expensive???
You'd be looking north of £100,000 for a single bespoke Purdey, and usually they come in pairs.
@@Fidgottio Thank you for taking the time to kindly inform me it’s greatly appreciated 👍 I have just added to my Christmas List so we’ll see?? 🤔😵💫🤣
That's not fair but okay 👌
😂
May you find a manicurist equal to the tailor you have discovered.
Reassuringly expensive
Your series is amazing but I’d like to know why it took 3 minutes before you mentioned the word ‘gun’ and by the four minute mark you only touched a gun or talked about their goods. You didn’t explain what they are what they do, WHY?
Because youtube tends to hide videos that have certain words in them.
It's a shame how English tailoring has become more and more Italian!
Double breasted suit is very British. Aka The Kent. Go figure
@@gaycha6589 That is not what I meant. Double breasted can be cut a number of ways, nothing British about it today. The cut is what matters and defines a country or province's history of tailoring. Classic British Drape Cut was made to be full in the trousers & jacket, but tapered to the body. Not like the American sack suit. Nowadays the fashion industry is more in favor of the Italian cut, which historically was cut much closer to the body and slim. That is because the Italians used to have a modest silhouette.
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505 The suit being worn could not be more English. Vented, gorge not too high, lapels not too wide. 6*2 buttons, jacket bottom length to wrist, padded shoulders and structured. Aka Beau Brummell. Double breasted was born from naval pea reefer coats, then from sporting casual jackets. Ticket flapped pockets totally English. BTW that is not a drape cut. I have a few decent suits…
Italian cut would have less padding and no vents.
It’s a nice suit either way.
@@gaycha6589 Oh, now I see. Yes, you're right. I personally only prefer the English Drape Cut, but I was wrong to say that it wasn't an English suit. Should've known better as I've seen and read countless topics about the differences. It all comes down to fashion I guess, for me.
This is pure torture
I feel like such an asshole
does one need a license to own a shotgun?
Very interesting, but watching this I feel like I dress like a tramp 😬😂
I am married to the daughter of an ambassador (deceased for nearly 30 years). Her father went on an official shooting party with various luminaries one of whom shot a beater and killed him. There were some verty snaky diplomatic exchanges I am told.
Is this the guy Harry Enfield based Tim Nice But Dim off?
TH-cam it if you need!
I like these traditions, but can’t help thinking these traditions were funded at the expense of
The Colonies and the starving indigenous population.
That's because there is a ton of anti British propaganda nowadays.
Did he say "OG"? the king's english is dead, lol
Look like a damn vampire
Admirable and wonderful craftmanship, pity that those splendid guns are used to slaughter beautiful animals. To make things even worse, the British have the cheek to call that ritualised mass-murder "sport".
Has this bloke ever worked a day in his life?
Jury is out.
There is a saying get a job you like and you'll never work a day. But he has a nice job. Chatting on the internet about niche luxury goods
He's the Chief Editor of The Rake magazine and has a beautiful family. He apprenticed under the great Nick Foulkes and is quite a hard working chap, I assure you.
Does it matter if he has or hasn’t?
I’ve worked on farms, and road construction’s in Australia all my life, I now have semi-retired onto a small farm, and I do just enough to keep me semi busy.
I now like to dress as well as I can, and I can assure you that people assume from my appearance that I’ve never done a day’s work in my life, but I now treat myself to as good a things as I can afford, because I became sick of being in work clothes all the time, which have been a huge part of my old life.
I’m 63 now.
So never assume anything about anyone!
Haha yeah he’s got a only fans
