@@WRXGarage i started researching different Koyorad radiator users and their experiences due to the fact i have 07 forester cross sports S edition in which the seal between the top tank and radiator itself started leaking so i am thinking of its replacement
Thanks dude I have a grimmspeed fmic and I was just looking into getting a aftermarket radiator and it looks like I'll be getting this setup. Also I found out that the Perrin Oil cooler fits behind the Grimmspeed front mount and I'll be doing that upgrade as well.
@@WRXGarage Added to cart ty! I remember seeing this when I first got my WRX and had since forgot about it hopefully it does lower my IAT and coolant temp
It's a double-edged sword.. the fmic will lower IAT's but usually adds more heat in the engine bay and in the coolant system. If you're just street driving, you'll be fine but on track coolant temps can sky rocket if you're driving hard full throttle for a couple laps
They'll definitely be better than with the stock radiator! You'll just have to keep an eye on the temps with your AP. When you add the oil cooler, it will separate the oil/coolant crossover underneath the oil filter which will help a ton. When on track, at high temps that crossover will actually heat the coolant because oil runs hotter.
Looking to get the same radiator for my 2010 wrx. Is the koyorad radiator single core/row or 2-row? Great vid btw, will definitely use this video to guide me through installing my radiator once i order it
Nice! Thanks for this video. Will follow along once I do mine. Questions though; do you really need to remove the overflow tank? Also, is it safe to add water wetter (or other brand coolant additive) for a DD? Thanks
Excellent job, and I really appreciate it. One more question, if I run stock TMIC and stock charge pipe, will it have a clearance problem if I keep using the stock fans, thanks.
@@WRXGarage yea, when I tracked a bunch of times, I was on the Killer B tmic. So i can understand your conern there. Since I have switched to a 4in ETS fmic, Koyo and Verus hood vents. I want to separate my oil and coolant, but haven't yet. The perrin oil cooler looks like the best one to me
Have you notice a oily type film when taking off the radiator cap when cool to look at it? Been reading up on some forums that this is normal w/ water wetter. Just haven’t heard from someone who mixed the Subaru coolant with Water Wetter!
Haven't noticed any kind of build up or film in my coolant yet. I've switched back and forth between pure distilled water and OEM coolant, both with water wetter added.
Did you not need to put the foam pad from the original radiator on the Koyo? The foam strips on top & btm tanks that pad it against the condenser? Not sure if the Koyo design has a different spacing to the condenser
Thanks for this video. I ordered all the stuff mentioned here as i think mine just cracked. I know this is an older video but what about the termostat?
I kept the oem thermostat. I don't think it would help much because once it gets hot it'll open up no matter what anyways. The only other thing I can think of doing is hardwiring the radiator fans so they're always on.
Any updates to how your oil temps/coolant temps have benefited from the aftermarket radiator? Here in North Texas, my wrx regularly sees 215F oil temps when I'm highway driving. I've even seen it go up to 219F on some occasions. I would like to upgrade my radiator at some point in the future.
Both oil and coolant temps are definitely lower driving around town, but I personally didn't notice any big difference until I drove the car hard in the canyons or on the highway! Max coolant temp I've seen around town is 210
There's a product Subaru makes that is an additive you run in the car for a bit before replacing your coolant and it essentially helps remove any buildup in your cooling system. amzn.to/3mhoDc5
On my car, the cooling is severely limited by the front mount intercooler. I'd say there was an average of 10 degrees cooler while daily driving and around 15 degrees cooler when full-out at the track
@@WRXGarage wow! Thats actually really great! Mine did too. I think they're replacements for the orings in the fill port and the drain plug. The other fittings are for if you wanted to run a custom overflow I think.

it was a good thing you did this because the top tank on the OEM radiator already started changing colour so good work to catch it
Yeah.. track coolant temps were getting up to 235-240.. way too hot

Awesome video! I’ll be very much doing the same thing soon and your video has increased my confidence!
Looks like a 1 hour job.. my Koyorad arrived today will install it tomorrow night..
thanks for making this video man, im about to the same mod to keep my temps down for track and this is so helpful!

You're wrong about taking it light on those hose clamps. I had to get mine tight as hell to get them to not leak. (mishimoto hose kit)
Nice how to and info man!

Nice! Thanks for this video. Will follow along once I do mine. Questions though; do you really need to remove the overflow tank? Also, is it safe to add water wetter (or other brand coolant additive) for a DD? Thanks
Yes it's totally safe! Water wetter is certified to be safe for OEM systems and to be mixed with OEM coolant.
Great video, new subscriber here 👍
Excellent job, and I really appreciate it. One more question, if I run stock TMIC and stock charge pipe, will it have a clearance problem if I keep using the stock fans, thanks.
Yes I believe the thickness between oem and the koyorad is actually not that different, I haven't had any issues with clearance using the stock fans
@@WRXGarage Thanks a lot!
The stock radiator was totally fine on the track. Never saw oil above 230 wide open for 30min.
That said... I also moved to a Koyo. Lol

Both! Full flush when I did the new rad.

Air temps don't really matter too much, driving full throttle for 5-10 minutes straight on a track will usually bring the temps up that much.

How many gallons?
Did you burp it again or was that one time good enough?
If you're thorough enough the first time, one time should be enough! Doesn't hurt to reburp it every couple months tho.
One more thing, the koyorad cap says its 1.3. The factory one says 1.8. Is that ok???
I looked this up a while ago, the stock WRX cap is 1.1bar I think. 1.8 is in kpa if I remember correctly

Sucks cause the charge pipe is so big you have to cut the passenger side fan for it to fit since the radiator is bigger.
I didn't have to cut the fan, just had to push on the silicon charge piping to get the bottom of the fan shroud past it.
@@WRXGarage so then it’s just me that had to do it since I have ETS 😅.
:( ohh. Yeah I have GrimmSpeed everything
Silicone hose with coolant you'll always be smelling it
What do you mean?
Does fit on 18 wrx ?
Yes!
Wouldn’t you have to fill the car up with coolant from the highest point at the reservoir tank by the turbo?
This is a WRX not an STI! This is the highest point for filling coolant.
