But what about the baits you might want to avoid? Whether it's a gimmick bait, or just one that's ineffective, in this video we'll go over some lures that might not be the best choice as well as some alternatives that might work much better for you whenever you're out doing a bit of bass fishing. #fishing #bassfishing #fishingtips

Do you have a lure that you thought would be good but turned out to not work well at all?
I never caught a bass on a chatter bait or a jig.
Yes i bought a Freddy the frog from westin baits...and I lost s leg first casts followed by the bill broke off on the second cast...bummed 20$ for nadda single bite.
there’s these Burkes Natural Frogs they look good but about 40% of the casts they land upside down and guess what? landing upside down happens to be the only way they float on the surface if they land properly they sink below the water
also the legs fall off pretty easy but it’s a lure i want to be better than it is because it’s cool looking and it has good action it just doesn’t stay where it needs to be and doesn’t land right
A chatterbait until I started using them in grass areas with a big trailer prespawn and I'm sold on them catching big bass now. It seems to catch me 3plus pound smallmouth at the river
I’ll 3rd the chatterbait
I'm a Zoom fanatic. I've caught the most bass with the red-colored 6" rubber worm. I've used Culprit worms successfully in FL, but not as successful as the Zoom in IN. Odd but it must be..."Something in the Water" 🤣
I like both Culprit and Zoom worms!
Try the "Big O's" by Cotton Cordell. They are an old favorite that works for me. I also like the Hula Popper in black and the Rebel Pop-R. 🎣
I have a whole plastic case of the old Big "O" baits from back in the day. Awesome little baits!
I'm guessing it is just area/lake specific. Thanks for the video! Always great content and great info.
Thanks for watching!
The Storm Arashi squarebill is excellent but comes in size 5 and 3. I use size 3. Never had any problems with swimming action.
I'm sure for some guys it works great, but every one I've ever had or used just didn't work well for me. Thanks so much for watching!
The licorice smell is Anise Oil, which is very good for Bass. Maybe they are overdoing the scent. Leave the bait out in the sun or just out of the package and see if the smell dies down. It could be they are using a cheaper "smell-like" cheapo'. 😁
I've tried "airing them out" but to no avail. It might be the baits, it might be the bass, or it might be me; I just have no confidence in them
Try that spinner bait at dark or just before dark about 1-3 feet from cover (pads, grass). That bait is great for Full moon night fishing My brother in law is a semi pro. He says that’s a night or dusk bait. Usually. Good luck.
I'll give it a try!
Chatterbaits never get me bites when I’m fishing heavily pressured fish or clear water (obviously) so I rarely throw them. With that said, that googan chatter bait is one of the worst chatterbaits out there. Thing does not work like it’s supposed to unless you modify it. Just stick with zman originals if y’all are considering chatterbaits for a low price!
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate you watching!
I wanted to make a suggestion on that walking bait that you said didn't work, try putting a split ring on the line tie it may give it more action, the new baits coming out are more expensive & with less hard ware, the new spooks are like that, the whopper plopper don't buy waste of money never have caught a fish with it or the berkley style one, once you buy baits that's money you can't get back & brother I have a small fortune in baits that don't work!👍🎣
Thanks for sharing!
On a busy over fished lake, lures of all types no longer work. The fish are bombarded by artificial.
That can be very true!
yea i have the same experience with that googan bladed jig i really don’t like it feels like way too much idk i never come close to catching anything
tbh i don’t like googan baits period i don’t like that space age alien robot look they all have it turns me off
I actually like Googan stuff. I have done good with their hard baits and soft plastics. But that clickbait is just something else!
I think that you need to downsize the spybait to have more success. The Berkley spy is a good one.
Thanks for the tip!
I dont like beaver type baits. They do work but they are only good for 1fish before they are done
They can be great for flipping and punching!
I have to agree with all of the baits you showed with only one exception. For me the Sammy 100 has been KILLER ever since I’ve owned them which is probably over 20+ years. I would not even think about throwing anything else. Maybe the newer ones aren’t the same as the older ones but for me they’re gold. Even caught my biggest smallie on it!! Again that’s just my experience. Thanks for the video!! 🍻🍻
That's awesome! Always use what you have confidence in!
Agreed!!
Come on brother it was is the name of the product..."CLICKBAIT". You know what that means, right? And you know what a googan is
I actually like everything else from Googan. I've had good success on their cranks and plastics.
@@LowBrowFishing some of their stuff is ehh. But I’ve been tearing the bass up with the trench hog and darts this year.
Hmmmm......lure error but have you eliminated operator error?
There's always operator error in everything I do. But I keep trying!
Ya that licorice smell is on the googan baits soft plastics too its supposed to attract fish but i havnt ever caught a fish on them!
That smell is really pervasive and strong in those baits!
I bought several of those Storm Arashi squarebills out of the bargain bin. They track ok for me. But there is something not right about the wobble. No luck on them. Also the old timers used Anise oil ( liquorice) as scent. It never worked for me.
I know licorice scent has been around for a long time. It's never produced well for me at all.
now you could be on to something with this style of videos...
I'm sure I'll do more like this!
Yeah, I fell for Googan's excuse for a chatterbait! It's not good at all! There have been several through the years that I thought for sure would work, only to realize that I had wasted my money! Thanks for another good video!
Agreed! There have been some crazy baits that I have wasted my money on over the years!
@@LowBrowFishing I agree, I probably have several hundred dollars worth of lures that dont catch fish.
The first crankbait I fell in love with as a kid was the old metal lipped storm Hot N Tot. Wow. Caught so many bass on that thing.
I still have a few pre-Rapala wiggle warts that might just be my favorite crankbait of all time. But I guess every company has one or two products that don't work for everyone.
Misslebaits have the black licorice smell too… are those bad too?
I have several packs of Missile Baits that I like, actually. The D-Bomb and Spunk Shad have both been good for me. To be honest, I never really noticed that they smell like licorice.
@@LowBrowFishing i just bought a bunch of pack of dbombs, bomb drops, and spunk shads and yea they definitely have that smell. i was worried i got bamboozled again.
Well I’m glad I might have got you to try the Sammy again but I also don’t like that size. The small Sammy 65 and the BIG Sammy128 are way better (and fill nitches). But the gunfish 75-95-115-117 are are 🔥
I don't know if it's user error, but I have tried to get that thing to walk properly and it just bobs up and down in the water. I'll be on the lookout for some that are different size. I've had no issues at all with the Gunfish. Great little bait.
Cool shirt.
Thanks!
I also have not caught fish on my Arashi crankbaits or on the Sammys I have. The Arashis I understand because they just don't feel right coming through the water. I don't understand my luck with a Sammy though. Others have had great success on them. Spybaits? Nah, never even bought one. They just seem like a gimmick to me. Like you, I believe in jerkbaits instead. Finally, I also use plenty of the Creme "Same Thing" plastics. They work and are priced so well you can't go wrong with them. Great video.
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate it!
Agree 100%
Awesome!
I have never caught a fish on David Dudley’s wacky worm. I had lots of bites but never could get a hook up.
The worm has two huge bulbous ends. The fish only hit the ends, chewed like a dogs bone.something actually bite one of the ends off.
This worm on the fall is basically perfect wiggle
I've used those before and caught a couple, but nothing huge.
You should try hosing down the reaper baits with your stinky juice concoction! Then you will know if it's just the scent or not and possibly get some use out of them.
I might try that!
The licorice scent is used in just about all bass soft plastics. Some stronger than others. WD-40 is a good scent spray also.
Thanks for watching!
I couldn't agree with you more on this bait selection. great video!!
Thanks! I'm happy you liked it!
I depend on those cheap baits from Walmart. I can't afford expensive lures so I need creme lures and cotton Cordell cranks.
Cheap or not, they work great!
I watch most every day.Keep up the good work. You do a good job explaining things
Awesome! Thank you!
I once bought pack of underpins that the blades didn't work on any of them. They were pretty cheap though
I've had that happen before too.
I bought some Googan ned baits with rattles in them and I haven't gotten any yet. But I'm going to keep trying. Awesome video as always!
Thanks for watching!
My wallet has always been pretty tight when it comes to fishing lures. I just don't see the sense in all them fancy gadgets and gizmos.
I wish I was more frugal when it comes to buying fishing stuff. But I need all the gear, lol.
Back when the chatter baits first hit the market, I bought some because of all the hype behind them.
I fished with mine for over a year and never caught a damn thing with them. Any time I was on the water I'd fish with them. Still nothing.
About a year ago today, I was fishing my way down a local pond bank on my way to the truck and heading for home for the day.
The chatter bait I had tied on finally got a hit. It was a decent sized bass. That got me excited, so I turned around and walked back up that same bank and I got another hit. This time it was a decent sized channel cat. I never knew that a catfish would hit an artificial lure before that happened. Fifteen minutes later I caught another channel cat. IT was a bit smaller than the first but, it was a fish and it hit my chatter bait after more than a year of not catching anything with them.
I know it sounds crazy but, now I routinely catch fish with the same chatter baits that used to be the most useless baits I had in my arsenal.
I must have just been holding my mouth the wrong way as I was reeling them in before that first successful catch.
I've had several baits like that. In some cases it took over a year before I caught a single fish. I try to always give baits another chance if I can.
I used to feel that way about a tube but I just kept working with them. Eventually I caught a couple fish and that led to more fish and now tubes are a huge bait for me.
Tubes are such great baits!
What i appreciate is you answering peoples comments on tour videos.I see so many videos where people hardly answer anything and i leave their videos alit
Thank you! I just want people to know I really appreciate that they took the time to watch.
I wish more TH-camrs had the nodules that you have to call out these baits that do not work for you, I love this ! more please !!!
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!
I always had trouble with jigs. Trying to get better and I actually caught bass with one this year
Awesome! I bet you catch even more!
Love these style videos good job sir.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching!
Great video!!! I'm in the same boat as you!! Been trying some new baits and seen fish being caught on them but I haven't caught a fish on one yet. A couple are some you used and had success but I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I decided to go back to my old ways for now. A question on the Yum Shad Attractant: Do you know if Yum is not making the Shad scent any longer? Every where I tried(on-line, local sporting shops) do not have them in stock. Even checked the Yum site and they are out as well. Found some other brand and will be trying this weekend. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!! 🤠👍
I just bought a fresh bottle off the shelf at my local Walmart. But I guess it has become very hard to find. Apparently my video created a shortage, lol! I don't know if this is different, but you might want to try it - www.walmart.com/ip/YUM-4-oz-Pump-Fishing-Lure-Scent-Shad/20604419
@@LowBrowFishing Thanks for the link I'll give it a try and see if it's in stock!!! 🤠👍
Preach bro about those spy baits. I've never had a bite on mine either.
Someone probably has caught fish on them, but I know it wasn't me!
