STOP Fishing Jerkbaits In Winter!!!!
Let's face it, jerkbaits are one of the most popular lures for winter bass fishing. And there are days when even the mighty jerkbait proves ineffectual at catching bass. In this video, we'll look at some alternatives you should consider in order to break out of your jerkbait rut! #fishing #bassfishing #fishingtips

The EASY Way To ALWAYS Pick The Right Color!!!!
When I'm not in the boat, I'm fishing the bank on a small pond. I always fish the rock dam. My bait: a tube, and a 1/4 ounce and 3/8 ounce jig. That's all i use because that's all i need. Joe
Keeping it simple is almost always the best way to fish!
Thanks LowBrow for the tips. That’s good to hear again. I appreciate the info very much.
I'm happy you liked it! Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks LowBrow great jerkbait tips bud 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching!
Your first paragraph said it all when you said " yup, they're out in the middle!" Us bank fishermen can put our stuff away as we can't reach the middle. We will have to wait until Spring, when the bass start coming out of their Winter haunts.
They day before that I was catching them right up against the bank in inches of water. Today they had moved back closer in as well.
@@LowBrowFishing If I'm not mistaken, you're in Mississippi. I'm in NJ, big difference. LOL Thanks for the reply.
They're banned here, but the sporting goods store still sells them.
That can be confusing to someone who isn't from the area.
I have caught bass before using a jerk-bait but, I couldn't tell you when the last time it was that I caught anything on a Jerk-Bait. It's been that long ago. I couldn't even tell you how long it's been that I fished a Jerk-Bait, even though I do have two or three different Jerk-Baits in my stash.
I think the bass see a lot of them and they get turned off.
Ball head jigs with grubs and minners done me good most of my life.
Hard to beat a classic!
Ned rigs and wacky rigs are best from the bank. Easy to use and catch lots of fish! Thanks for another awesome video LB!
Those are definitely great ways to catch fish!
I get frustrated when I see bass chasing bait just under the surface and can't get a bite on a jerkbait. I probably use them too long before changing but it's a hard habit to break.
I'm really bad about that too!
It was cold and windy two days ago when I went to the lake. Still caught 3 fish. Even though I was freezing I kept fishing 😂
It's hard to leave when the fish are biting!
Thanks for the great tips LB! Haven't done good with jerkbaits last month or so. Makes sense that base get used to them.
Sometimes even a jerkbait bite can dry up!
I started using small 2 hook jerkbaits from the bank recently and caught some fish. But it's always smart to have options.
It's always good to have a plan B!

The shear number and variety of hooks these days is astounding. I can only imagine how daunting it is for someone just getting into the sport. This video helps answer a lot of questions!
I agree completely! Even when I was a kid and first learning to fish I thought there was so much to it. But it seems like there can be a real information overload as bass fishing has turned into a real science!
I’m visiting family in Tennessee this week for Thanksgiving. I’m going to try out my Waco rig and Wacky rig technique with my brother in law. I’m confident in my abilities to catch fish thanks to you. Will update later.
That's awesome! I'm sure you'll catch tons of nice fish!
I could never get a good hookset with a texas rigged ewg hook. I switched to the round bend hooks and stopped missing fish. I also really dont use a worm t-rigged. I mostly use craw patterns. If I use a worm I use a shakey head or wacky rig usually.
I know a lot of guys who like craws and creature baits on a Texas rig. It's a great way to catch fish!
T rigs are really versatile. That's why they catch so many fish! Appreciate the tips!
They really are! Glad you enjoyed the tips!
I don't fish a t rig nearly as much as I used to, but I mostly use a craw or creature bait when I do. Not saying a senko is bad, but I feel more comfortable with other types of soft plastics instead.
That's a great way to fish a Texas rig!
Thanks for sharing the history of the Texas rig!!✊ Learned something new about using the Texas rig in a different way! Stay Safe & God Bless!! 🤠👍
That's awesome! I hope it helps!
I was bad about using the wrong hooks. I thought bigger was always better.
Lowbrow, i fish a fluke. Texas rigged like you rig it, but i.bounce it off the bottom like a worm. Joe
That's a great way to work a fluke!
Awesome tips LB! I throw a weightless senko from the bank.
That's a great way to get a bite!
Thanks to everyone who visited my online bait store!!! - diamondbackbaits.myshopify.com
Great tips LowBrow and info on this topic thank you bud 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching!
Woohoo There’s the Mardi Gras rig!
Haha! Great name!
Hey Lowbrow. Have you heard anything about keeping the handles up on a bait caster while pitching or flipping?
I've never heard of that, but I usually just point the handle downward naturally as part of my motion.
got to love that spinnerbait bite! never gets old! I'm also a fan of the shimano m/d rod for the $..
Spinnerbaits have been doing work for me all year! Those cheaper Shimano rods have really impressed me. Excellent rods and you can't beat the price!
Great video!!!! Thanks for the helpful tips!!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!! 🤠👍
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
I need to use painted blades way more than I do. Have so many of them but they often get forgotten about amongst all the other shiny toys. A great reminder!
I have way more shiny blades than painted ones and I'm always tempted to tie those on first. But this past year, some of the best fish I've gotten were on those painted blades.
The spinner bait is one of the only two lures that I have in my bass fishing arsenal that I've never caught a bass with. The other bait is the bass jig. I know, lots of fishermen faun over these lures, and with good reason. I've just never had any luck with either, and it's not like I haven't tried catching bass with a spinner or a jig.
The next time you have a great day and the bass are biting good, try tying a spinnerbait on for a while. You might be able to work out the kinks.
Swim the jig for a while. You'll get free bites and it'll build confidence.
Funny to me how you mentioned that chatterbaits haven't been the ticket for you this year. I live in the midwest and it's been the same story for me. Maybe those fish have seen and heard so many they've been chatterbaited to death.
I've caught tons of bass on bladed jigs. But this year has been pretty dry in that department.
Used to fish a spinnerbait more back about 30 years ago when I was much younger in my 50s. Don't know why I stopped using them as much.
I started using beetle spins back in the 70s when I was a kid and have always had a fondness for spinnerbaits!
Hard to beat the classic lures. Spinnerbaits have been around so long because of how well they work!
Sometimes the old lures are the best lures!
Love all the great fish catches! Seeing how you use the baits out on the water is a big help.👍👊
Thanks for watching! I hope it helps!
Love the Strike King spinnerbait only difference is mine is the chartreuse one. Great video LowBrow thank you bud 👍🏻
I have a few of the chartreuse ones as well! They catch nice fish!
Yes they do sir
I usually just stay home on cold windy days. That wind just cuts right through me. But now I'm tempted to go out more! Thanks for the tips LB!
That cold wind can be rough! As long as I can keep my hands and feet warm, I'm usually okay.
Most underrated fishing channel on TH-cam! How you can go out on your small boat and catch fish anytime just amazes me! Keep the awesome tips coming!
I really appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying the videos.
Really nice fish LB! Caught my biggest this year on a 1/4 spinnerbait with a Colorado blade. A shade over 3.5 lbs.
Those smaller spinnerbaits can still catch big fish!
Nice fish, you'll get bigger than that if you keep spinning! It's my GFs confidence bait and she gets bass, crappie, and trout. Seems like it's hard for that thing to miss lol.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the channel by visiting my online store fly my handmade jigs. You can check it out here - diamondbackbaits.myshopify.com
Fishing different water is definitely my biggest weakness. It’s why I love fishing new lakes - no history. I am doing better checking new areas than I used to, but still tough for sure.
My biggest fault is if I caught fish in an area last time out. I'll tend to work that area way more than I should if I'm not getting bites.
Great video LowBrow thanks for the secrets on tough days and had plenty of them 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching!
Here in Kentucky the temperature is dropping into the 40s, this time of year it put on my fall go to bait. The tube. I fish chunk rock, or any kind of rock bank. Fish on. Joe
Tubes are such a great way to catch fish!
Lowbrow I always enjoy your videos.. I was in my local lake the other day and of course I have people ask me what I’m fishing with I tell them a stick bait but I don’t tell them a Waco rig I cast out talking to them and got a 4 pounder 😂😂😂
That's funny! What a nice fish!
I've got several spots so secretive that the fish can't even find them. Thanks Lowbrow
Might wanna keep those to yourself, lol!
I been seeing little minnows and such under my dock so I guess I'm lucky I ain't gotta go far.
If you see bait fish, there's a big chance bass are in the area!
I'm always amazed how big the schools get in the winter. I've seen hundreds of bass grouped up off a point.
I've seen huge schools, especially off of structure that radiates warmth into the water, like rocks or dark timber.
Found a spot this morning where I caught 3 fish on 5 casts, but if I cast 15 feet away from there I got nothing.
Bass are grouped up tight right now. Their bite range can be pretty small.
I'm still trying to read the conditions to pick my lures but I feel like I'm getting better at it. But a ned rig still seems to work best for me most times.
The ned rig is a great all-around bait for sure!
I never used to move along the bank. But I learned to keep my feet moving. I catch way more fish.
It really makes a difference when you're covering water!
Fishing empty water is something I do too much. I need to stop changing out 100 lures and just move.
I get caught changing out lures over and over more often than I'd like. It's always best to cover water!
