    I had a 102.1 fever yesterday, and rather than trying to treat it and cool myself down, I packed on more clothes, wore a wool cap to keep my head warm, and even put on gloves. Then I went to sleep underneath my comforter. I woke up all wet from all of the sweat, but my fever was totally gone. My temp went back down to 98.

    Fever at 39.5-40° c for three days straight. I usually don’t take medication unless it’s a last resort but this is the first time in my life having a fever that high I had no choice. It was affecting my ability to move, think, eat, sleep and bathe.

    MY Hybrid approach to fevers is: I only take something for fever reduction when I go to bed, because in my opinion: a good nights sleep and the benefits from the rest outweigh the benefits of the fever. However when im awake during the day, suffer through it. It sucks, but I have found that I am sick for a shorter period of time if I just let my body do what it needs to do. Supply the troops with lots of water, eat meals that go down easily and raise your spirits, and the battle will be won in no time.

    Growing up, we never treated a fever unless it was a high fever because you can get febrile seizures if it gets too high. We rarely got sick and we kicked sickness quickly when we did come down with something. To this day, I don't take any meds unless I really REALLY need them.

    • @paulrevere2379
      @paulrevere2379 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Bingo. The two questions I always silently ask myself are these:
      - What does my body need to treat the problem, not just the symptoms?
      Rest, fresh air, chicken soup, fasting, or what.
      - Are the symptoms severe enough that they actually constitute a problem of their own?
      A high fever, not just your typical. Another example is lower body pains bad enough to cause limping which does more harm than a few anti-inflammatories.

      @Edward Elizabeth Hitler Do not dismiss the power of determination. It does not guarantee to solve an issue, but it is often the difference between recovery or the ugly alternative.
      We live in a time where quitters are now sometimes celebrated, but quitters are still losers.
      The will to fight is up to you, but you can think of people who can inspire you. If it's possible for one then it's possible for others. Many others have been down that road determined to pass through and come out recovered and they succeeded because they refused to give up, to give in or to back down.

      Start introducing ALL the essential nutrients your body needs. This not only means vitamins and minerals, but make sure they’re bioavailable. Most common store bought multivitamins are NOT bioavailable. If your pee comes out bright highlighter yellow after taking them, your body is not absorbing them. Besides, most common multivitamins are synthetic crap. I’d suggest going for natural organic grass fed organ meat multivitamins.
      Highly nutrient dense, and highly bioavailable.
      I’d also pay special attention to probiotics. 80% of the immune system is in the gut. Again, natural forms like organic apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut, kefir .. etc rather than store-bought capsules.
      Medicinal mushrooms contain something called beta-glucans that significantly boost the immune system.
      I have not been sick for 4 years after doing all this.
      As for the scar lol depending on the type .. you might have success using a derma-roller and applying copper peptides or colloidal copper.

      Good as new in 2 days.
      Before I knew all this a common cold would last me 2 weeks.
      I didn’t get a fever but if I did, i would do all this and add some immune boosters like organic vitamins, minerals, grass fed bone broth soup and rest. This is what I’d do if it were a mild fever. A more serious one, I would pull out the big guns but .. they’re a little unorthodox.

  • @bryans3483
    @bryans3483 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Do not take this information and apply it to all situations. Ask your doctor about your specific condition. What he does not mention is that allowing a fever to continue untreated leads to other issues. Because of increased metabolic rate, heart rates increase and you get dehydrated much faster. Fevers also cause decrease in appetite and wanting to drink water which further worsens dehydration and nutrition status - both of which are necessary for battling any type of infection. Add vomiting or diarrhea and this can quickly cause severe issues such as kidney failure or death. (Work in an ER and you will see this daily.)
    I would always talk to your doctor when it comes to a fever especially any longer than 2-3 days. There are many issues it could be.
    When it comes to my children, we will treat the fever just so they continue to eat and drink. The body continues to fight the virus even with antipyretics. A bacterial infection will require antibiotics with or without antipyretics. He should also mention this is more for viral infections that typically just need to run its course. This video significantly lacks further information and insight on individual conditions. Since this is more complex than he leads on, the average person is likely better off treating the fever than not treating due to the risk of worsening complications. These videos are reasons why misinformation continues. Glad he showed minimal info from one study 10 years ago though.

      Please do. Think of it this way, your body would benefit so much more from getting a healthy, substantial amount of REM sleep to help the body fight the infection. If the fever is keeping you awake at night, this is not worth it. Sleep/rest, hydration, and nutritional foods (such as foods with high Vit-C or natural Anti-Inflammatories such as Tumeric) are going to be your best friend as your sick, presumably with the Flu. When I was a kid, age maybe 11, I had a irresponsible babysitter’s, she and her husband refused to turn on the air conditioner in the car, therefore I got a real bad fever and passed out. Some hours later I woke up in the hospital ward, and the orderlies made me take a cold bath which broke my fever.
    It was shocking, some 3-4 days later my mom decided to come visit me after going off to Alberta, and she tried taking me out of the children’s ward of the hospital, to which I was a ward of the state and I had no idea I was in the process of being placed into permanent foster care, the hospital staff threatened to call the police if I was taken away from the children’s ward of the hospital. but my doctor was there and he decided to let my parents sign me out of the children’s ward of the hospital.

As far as I know, this threshold is lower for young babies than for adults? - at least that's what I was always told as a new parent. This would be a pretty important thing to mention, if you're telling people not to treat fevers in general.

My fever usually last 6-7 hours straight and then I sweat , and all sorts of things come out of my nose. Yesterday within 3-4 hours, fever was 104.7, slurred speech, repeated words unconsciously, dizzy, extremely weak. Ok, took Tukol & Advil, did cold compress with cold water/ vinegar, took 1.5 hours for the fever to go down to 100. Fell asleep for 9 hours straight. Today I woke up w/o sweat, I wasn’t out of the woods because I broke the fever with pills and pharma liquids … dang!!
    Also, I fasted the whole day and franc mineral water by the gallon

    On the other hand, it’s unknown what happens long term to take the medicine at the first sight of fever and/or discomfort.
    After taking time to look into the actual science of it, I find it interesting but don’t have a definitive answer yea or nay.
    For the record, I always monitor my temperature and try very hard to avoid any medication in attempt to let my body figure it out. However, the older I get, the less patience I have for the misery.

    THE DECISION TO TREAT FEVER
    In deciding whether to treat fever, it is important to remember that fever itself is not an illness: it is an ordinary response to a perturbation of normal host physiology. Most fevers are associated with self-limited infections, such as common viral diseases. The use of antipyretics is not contraindicated in these infections: no significant clinical evidence indicates either that antipyretics delay the resolution of viral or bacterial infections or that fever facilitates recovery from infection or acts as an adjuvant to the immune system. In short, treatment of fever and its symptoms with routine antipyretics does no harm and does not slow the resolution of common viral and bacterial infections.However, in bacterial infections, the withholding of antipyretic therapy can be helpful in evaluating the effectiveness of a particular antibiotic, especially in the absence of positive cultures of the infecting organism, and the routine use of antipyretics can mask an inadequately treated bacterial infection. Withholding antipyretics in some cases may facilitate the diagnosis of an unusual febrile illnese.

    I'd say the burden on medical providers on, provide, a treatment is too engrained on our culture. Yes, you should definitively go see a doc if you're worried, but for some viral diseases like a cold or flu in healthy individuals, the best cure is time, hydration, rest and diet. Let your immune system do its work while you lay comfortably in your bed watching whatever you want.
