This is a bit extreme. At least for me. I can't speak for everyone, but I can speak for me. On that note I've completed a 21 day fast a few times. I never had hallucinations of my furniture turning into food. I still have all my teeth. I didn't turn into skin and bones in the process. I was hangry in the three days, but that passes. Finally breaking the fast takes a little while to get back to eating normal.
I am curious because i really would like to try this sometime, i always like experimenting with diets and food and challenging myself but i have some questions. Did you take electrolytes that don't break your fast? Did you experience much muscle loss? Did you lose much strength? This is what worries me the most because i work heavy physical labour and train 6 times a week.

Yes I've fasted for 23 days before and practice shorter fasts somewhat regularly... They need to change the time-line because it's definitely not accurate.. I even read about a super obese guy who fasted for a year and he was fine. As long as you're taking a vitamin everyday you're good.

The thing is, an uncomfortable amount of the weight lost is probably muscle. so I would advise you to workout everyday of the fast to keep your muscles

I felt zero of these horrible side effects, so I'm assuming these things only happen when you're actually starving and not living off of your fat reserves. I lost about 15 lbs, which was pretty cool.

They are. You can survive for months without food. You do feel sluggish after a few days but not within the first few days. The sluggishness comes from your body reserving energy. You do need to be careful though as overworking yourself without food would be bad for you as there is no energy source to help you.
A crucial factor is body type. The video would be very accurate for someone who's naturally skinny (like me) or has a high resting metabolic rate. For someone who's a lot fatter or muscly, the onset of these symptoms would be delayed by weeks
I have done water fasting multiple times and I never had these exaggerated symptoms. If anything I lost a heck lot of body fat in less than a month and my cravings and hunger for carbs and sugar decreases notably to the point that I no longer desire to eat unhealthy food.

@@saturnbabiee0286 Start by doing intermittent fasting. If you haven’t fasted before, it would be very abrupt to the body to go from eating as you usually do to stop eating for a few days out of the blue because you’d have a lot of cravings because your body is not yet used to fasting. If I were you I would gradually increase my fasting time from intermittent fasting 16:8, after 2 weeks do OMAD 23:1 for other 2 weeks and then do water fasting for 2 or 3 days. After your body is really used to fasting you can even extend your water fasting for 1 week and so on. I’ve personally extended it just for 3 days and I sometimes do alternate day fasting, meaning that I spend 48 hours without eating, and either way you lost heck ton of weight in short time.

The longest I haven’t eaten for was four days. The biggest effect I noticed was my mood. I was extremely irritable. I felt weak but I was still able to do everything I could while eating. For me, it was unhealthy. I was addicted to starving myself. I felt so good when I looked at other people eating and knowing that I was ‘stronger’. I had an eating disorder. Even though the longest I hadn’t eaten for four straight days only once, it was starving myself and then binging long before and long after that. I never saw my bed turn into a burger though. One weird thing was that once, I was brushing my teeth and reallyyyyyy wanted to eat it. It tasted so good in that moment. It was really weird.

i am a survivor of arfid (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) its an eating disorder that is trauma and autism related, i have had the disorder for about 6 years, and in the peaks of the disorder i would go months without eating anything solid because i never felt hunger at all during the past 6 years, what kept me alive during all those years without feeling hunger and going months without eating was the fact that i slept a lot and i still got the feeling of thirst, my thirst is what kept me alive as i would be 100% reliant on chai teas (which contained lots of creams and sigar) and milk and occasionally i would drink juice, it took 5 years for my weight to drop down to 100 lbs, and im 5’8, before the eating disorder i was 126 which was the most i’ve ever weighed in my life. for about 2-3 years i we couldn’t figure out what was going on and why i wouldn’t eat, even doctors were confused and kept giving me treatments for heartburn or extra acid, it wasn’t until i talked to someone online who happened to have arfid and told me about it, i then looked it up and i was like “i think i finally found what’s going on” it took an additional 2-3 years after that before i finally started to feel hunger pains for the first time in 6 years. it was weird because as soon as i stopped taking my medications used for depression i started to feel hunger and started to eat again.
I fasted for 50 days earlier this year and lost 61lbs. I felt stable energy throughout, amazing mental focus and clarity, and had blood work done on day 41 showing no deficiencies in vitamins or minerals. I did supplement electrolytes and took a daily multivitamin, but I went from 258 lbs to 197 lbs in those 50 days and greatly improved my health. While it definitely requires enough body fat to sustain a long term fast, your body does not break down significant muscle mass while fasting. I will say that cycling shorter fasts is probably more sustainable for significant weight loss because of less need to refeed carefully and less rebound weight gain, but prolonged fasting has many significant health benefits and is far from what this fear mongering propaganda video would have you believe.

As a struggling anorexic about a couple months or so ago I would've said this video is nonsense. I've gone weeks on just water and soymilk, and been able to fully function, running and jumping, working and everything with a mood better than it'd ever been. But right now I've lost almost 20 pounds in two weeks, while having already been slender. Which had never happened before. After a certain point it isn't that your body becomes just fine as much as your mind gets very good at convincing you that you're A-OK up until a certain point in order to keep you from panicking or seeking hope in a hopeless situation, which would compromise survival. It's like how people with terrible injuries like losing arms or being impaled can just seemingly shrug them off due to all the adrenaline in their body. Or how people going through trauma can dissociate or "zone out", mentally leaving so they don't know or feel what's happening to their bodies. I felt light, happy, elated and in a wonderful mood. Up until I'd noticed that my joints were constantly "popping" and everything hurt more for reasons I couldn't understand. Then the reality came crashing in and suddenly I was all but bedridden. Feeling cold is also spot-on as are the mood swings till the dissociation hits. Starving and fasting can bring the most euphoric highs and pleasantness. That's why it's so dangerous too, because it then becomes addictive for many. But right now, I think I feel a lot better now that I'm eating again.
My mom will, for religious reasons, often fast for around 21 days every January. She is weak for the first few days and then she works optimally again. Well, in some countries arachnids are both large and extremely dangerous. For example, in much of the Middle East there is a rather large quantity of people who are deathly afraid of arachnids. So much so that the CIA actually utilized both scorpions and tarantulas to psychologically torture suspected terrorists for information. It’s been known for generations that arachnophobia is prevalent in that region. There’s significantly more to it then just that though, and there are far more groups that suffer from arachnophobia. But there’s a lot more research out there than I can recall. Very fascinating subject

I had a similar experience about three years ago. Brain fluid was going where it wasn't supposed to, causing me to throw up any food I ate. I had to have brain surgery to correct the problem. I lost about 20 pounds over 3 weeks.
I had the same problem where when I started re-eating again its really hard to keep the food down and I kept on throwing up, but eventually it just went back to normal. I never get myself checked tho.
I've fasted for four weeks before while taking vitamin and mineral supplements, after the first day I wasn't hungry again until about 5 days later, but even that went away, I was just living my regular life, I would have sugar free gum, black coffee, and water. Eventually I did feel like was looking less muscular in the mirror so I resumed eating by drinking soups and broths. I suffered no health defects and enjoyed being able to see my abs for the first time since bootcamp. Four weeks of fasting brought me down from about 18% bodyfat to 6%, and I was none the worse off, I filled up quickly and recovered my lost muscle mass. Although it was great for about two months I eventually gained back the fat I lost, so if you wanna quick motivation boost(or wanna take pics) fastings great IMO, but not for long term maintenance or progress.

I had to be hospitalized for over 24 hours. They had to give me something to drink to coat my stomach because my stomach acid was completely out of whack. I was put on fluids and glucose. It took me over a month to eat a full meal. I had to start with mashed potatoes at a half of a cup at a time. I will never do that again.
You forgot to mention 1 part about the digestion process. While you’re chewing your food and the saliva is breaking it down, your tongue will form food into a ball-like mass so it can be swallowed. I always found that part cool, because we don’t realize it happens.
I used to go a couple days without eating whenever I started eating too much and gaining weight. I would just choose not to eat. I still took my vitamins, drank plenty of water and occasional Gatorade. Would be a little more lethargic but after that couple of days would drop 5-10 pounds and had a lower appetite. Does lower your metabolism though during the fasting so when you start to eat again if you go straight to fatty foods you'll bloat up pretty quickly. Also terrible for your muscles because those start to get broken down after the first day when your body goes into starvation mode
@@danielcurtis1434 muscle will start to atrophy at that time you specified of inactivity or after you stop working out, not the same as when you fast or starve
If you fast and stay active your metabolism actually increases and muscle start to break down after about 3 days. Though very gradually and slowly. Also depending on your body fat.
This is why during the recovery process, doctors and nurses will give you food with low protein and sugar intake so that the body becomes used to gaining glucose and energy in its stores again.

I've had some brain damage as a really young kid so my brain doesn't exactly tell me I need food (I don't get hungry). I've gone days on only coffee & water (forgetting to eat, lol). I also have to manually blink or my eyes will dry out (It blew my mind to learn other people do that automatically) & I usually only operate on about 5-ish hours of sleep. Brain damage can muster some really odd characteristics!
I did fast one day a week for years. Best i ever felt in my life! I did drink fluids. Or even like a protein drink or veg juice. If i got really hungry. Look into cleanning yourself out to.
Lol no. This video is made by insane people. You can go a month without eating if you prepare yourself and have no bad side effects. Fasting is very good for the body.
I did a 7 day water fast, and I was not hallucinating on day two... nor did I hallucinate at all. Also, I didn't look, nor feel like I was dying on day 3.
I’ve heard in survival situations that you can survive for up to a month without food. So how, then, is your body already starting to break itself down after 3 days?
your body doesn't break itself until much later, this is a really fast explanation. after 5 days will not cause your body or brain any harm as long as you are healthy and drink LOTS and LOTS of water.
Depends on how much fat you have really people have gone a year without eating and just taking vitamins but unless your 600 pounds you won’t last that long
You can easily survive a month with no food even more. Your body will cleanse, you'll feel great, energetic etc. Many chronic issues will resolve. It is the secret doctors don't want you to know about.
This is an exaggeration. I dry fast for up to 7 days once or twice every year. During these 7 days I eat and drink absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I even avoid washing my hands to prevent my body from absorbing water from the skin. The first 2 days I do feel manageable hunger , but the following days my state improves to a a way higher state than regularly. I usually start to eat gradually again on the end of the seventh day , but I do so out of safety more than from hunger .
I think its important to clear the fact that...this doesn't really happen so quickly You take around 3 days to finish the glucose supply in your body, after 3 days you start using muscle instead of body fat to make energy. After 2-3 weeks is when your organs start decreasing in size, but it doesn't happen so rapidly. You don't usually feel tired all the time, in fact you may feel more energized. But again, all this depends on the amount of body fat you have. If you're very very skinny, what is said in the video might happen to you. If you're overweight, you'll have enough glucose to last you a while There was once a case where a severely overweight guy went on a fast for 382 days, under the supervision of doctors, and he was given enough multivitamins He dropped from 465lbs to 180lbs by the end of 382 days So...everyone's body is different and everyone's body response will be different as well
A small group of people and I out there are born with a genetic condition called Vasovagal Syncope (which can later develop to Anoxic Seizures) people call it a heart condition but really it’s a Central nervous system disorder our vagus nerve forgets to tell our hearts to do its job so our blood pressure and heart rate plummet and we experience syncope (faint) basically the first few days of this can be sped up immensely
Heat, hunger, dehydration and exhaustion. sight of blood/injury (hemophobia) this is acquired through past experiences. TIP: Good diet and a decent exercise routine will prevent syncope/seizures from being triggered.

I went through a very traumatic experience when I was in my 20's. I didn't drink anything whatsoever for two weeks, and didn't eat for 3. I won't go into the aftermath, but obviously I lost a lot of weight (I was very athletically fit). In hindsight, it COMPLETELY DESTROYED my metabolism. Before that, I could eat as much as I wanted and not gain a pound. Afterwards, I have to be VERY careful about my food choices, because now I put on weight much easier, and because of fibromyalgia I can't vigorously excercise. I now have to control my weight primarily through my diet. Fortunately, I usually get a mild/moderate amount of excercise at work, and I spend most the day on my feet actively working. I did this back in 2017 (I was 17 years old) I consumed nothing but water for 30 days straight it was painful and dangerous but worth it i guess from 218 down to 168 lbs in just a month😄
Even for Infographics, there's an impressive amount of misinformation here. There are two nutrients that you absolutely need--protein and fat. Glucose and carbs are NOT one of them. You'd do perfectly well if another carb never crossed your lips again. Almost all humans can also easily fast for several weeks (those who are malnourished, pregnant women, and children should generally not fast) and researchers have fasted for a year or more under close medical supervision. At least they mentioned ketones, but they weren't accurate on those. Shocking for this channel, I know. Your brain will quickly adapt to using ketones for fuel as soon as you run out of glucose, which takes about two days on average. You may have heard the term "keto flu." This is your body a) becoming used to burning ketones and fat for fuel and b) rebalancing your electrolytes. It can last for about two weeks, but you can stave off most of the symptoms by eating a lot of fat (if you aren't fasting) and adding a proper electrolyte mix to your water. Sipping bone broth can also help if you aren't doing a strict fast or if you are fasting over a very long period of time.
@@elledge34 Unless you're type 1 diabetic, fasting and keto is the best possible thing you could do for diabetes. Work with your doctor though, because your insulin will need to be adjusted and possibly discontinued.
im muslim so i fast for ramadan, but since i do eat at evening i dont get sick and starve. but i did have fatiuge and stomach aches, and i was very hangry and grumpy! and i lost weight and gained weight because i'd eat sooo much at night but it'd all go down as i didnt eat in the morning! but this process made me more calmer and happier
This is honestly a little dramatic. I don’t know about others, but I’ve never had my furniture hallucinate into food and I’ve never been almost feral after a week of not eating. The most I’ve done was an 18 day fast and sure, your body will hurt a little - especially your stomach. But it does get better the more you do it.
For all of y'all who have not had any of these bad side effects but have done this maybe longer. I'm pretty sure to experience any of these bad side effects you have to be quite skinny when you start because of course if you have fat your body is going to start digesting that and if you are skinny your body doesn't really have any fat to digest so of course you will feel worse cuz your body is now basically looking at itself like hamburgers and hot dogs.
If you're morbidly obese, then starvation won't be such a dicey issue 😅 It is also 1 way to lose weight, but by far THE WORST possible option in the long run!
So, the people who starve/fast say this video is exaggerated, and the people who are in recovery from eating disorders say this video is accurate. I think I'll listen to the people in recovery.
I did 13 days water fasting and i felt awesome.I would have lasted 2 more weeks but my mom cooked all my favourite foods, cause she was worried for my health, so i choose to quit.
As someone who is 70 lbs overweight, I’ve done 21 say fasts and almost none of this happened. This definitely was made for people who were already skinny when they stopped eating.
Finally breaking the fast takes a little while to get back to eating normal.
how much weight did you lose
I am curious because i really would like to try this sometime, i always like experimenting with diets and food and challenging myself but i have some questions.

They are. You can survive for months without food. You do feel sluggish after a few days but not within the first few days. The sluggishness comes from your body reserving energy. You do need to be careful though as overworking yourself without food would be bad for you as there is no energy source to help you.

I have done water fasting multiple times and I never had these exaggerated symptoms. If anything I lost a heck lot of body fat in less than a month and my cravings and hunger for carbs and sugar decreases notably to the point that I no longer desire to eat unhealthy food.

How did you ease yourself back into eating after your fast? I want to try water fasting, but I also want to be safe about it as well.
Unless your already skin and bones this won't happen in the timespan they claim. Take vitamins, water and salt.

I never saw my bed turn into a burger though. i am a survivor of arfid (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) its an eating disorder that is trauma and autism related, i have had the disorder for about 6 years, and in the peaks of the disorder i would go months without eating anything solid because i never felt hunger at all during the past 6 years, what kept me alive during all those years without feeling hunger and going months without eating was the fact that i slept a lot and i still got the feeling of thirst, my thirst is what kept me alive as i would be 100% reliant on chai teas (which contained lots of creams and sigar) and milk and occasionally i would drink juice, it took 5 years for my weight to drop down to 100 lbs, and im 5’8, before the eating disorder i was 126 which was the most i’ve ever weighed in my life. for about 2-3 years i we couldn’t figure out what was going on and why i wouldn’t eat, even doctors were confused and kept giving me treatments for heartburn or extra acid, it wasn’t until i talked to someone online who happened to have arfid and told me about it, i then looked it up and i was like “i think i finally found what’s going on” it took an additional 2-3 years after that before i finally started to feel hunger pains for the first time in 6 years. it was weird because as soon as i stopped taking my medications used for depression i started to feel hunger and started to eat again.
How do you find out if you got this or not?

Me fasting during the month of ramadan: 😅
I like that you included the recovery process.
Do you have more details about what you ate and what your overall plan was like? I'm currently 232 and I would like to get back down to 190 within 50 days if it's possible
@@zayhendrix2617 I ate nothing at all, I just supplemented sodium/potassium through lo-salt (about 40% RDA potassium per day), and I took a daily multivitamin. I then eased back into eating with bone broth, light vegetables, and started with eggs for protein on the second day. It was a daily challenge, but definitely not terrible. I don’t recommend it bc it can mess up ur eating schedule afterwards, and yes u can be very drowsy. Everything here is very very extreme in my opinion.

I suffered no health defects and enjoyed being able to see my abs for the first time since bootcamp. Four weeks of fasting brought me down from about 18% bodyfat to 6%, and I was none the worse off, I filled up quickly and recovered my lost muscle mass. I fasted for 2 weeks once. It was 2 terrible weeks of pain, hunger, and fatigue. Cold. I had to be sent to a hospital over this. But I do agree that this is a bit extreme. Around day 4 I stopped feeling completely hungry and full of energy. The symptoms you were describing began around week 2 of my fast, although the first few days haven’t been all that easy. But then again, everyone is different. I was low weight when I started this in the first place
I'm already 1 week and 3 days fasting. And I'm good plus I'm already skinny and my goal is about losing the fat in my face

That’s more only if you were already a thin person, to begin with, if your skinny fasting isn’t a good idea at all if you have fat on you. You should be good for however you fast etc I saw an article about an extremely overweight guy who was able to fast for a year or something like that
@@Sikkc0 He talked about that at the end of the video

Yeah, I went 67 days without eating. The most painful thing about starvation is when u start throwing up stomach acid, ur chest n stomach feels like it's on fire. Not 2 mention a migraine like you've never felt b4.
I didn't think it was that bad... I've had those symptoms for a year now, I struggle a lot with food, this week i spent 23 hours eating only a spoon of cheese. My nutritionist said my tiredness and forgetfulness was because I wasn't eating properly, but this gives me another perspective. I really need to get better fast
This is exactly what I’ve been feeling lately
Sounds serious.
bro saying this isn't that bad, is clearly bad, because you need to develop fast
IN GENERAL: "You can live 3 seconds without blood, 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food".
Thank you for the info
This The Original Rule of threes (survival)
You can survive three minutes without breathable air (unconsciousness), or in icy water.
You can survive three hours in a harsh environment (extreme heat or cold).
You can survive three days without drinkable water.
You can survive three weeks without food.
Also, the Blood one is made-up.
Mr beast:hold my beer
I hear you can go without for longer periods of time. That is, if you practice fasting and keep increasing your fasting time length gradually.
@@ikawba00 Yeah with the right electrolyte supplements, you can go months
I went through a bought of depression and didn't eat a bite of food in over a month. I got to the point to where I couldn't get off my couch. My sister took me to the emergency room. I hadn't had a BM for 2 weeks and was barely urinating and when I did it was extremely dark. Once at the emergency room I found out I had lost 22 pounds and I was extremely dehydrated!
Your body usually only breaks down muscles after fat is depleted as far as possible. Even on an average person this should take a 1.5-3 weeks.

This scenario is definitely the worst case possible. I've gone around a week fasting, and while it was pretty miserable at points, it wasn't much like this. If you're mindful and continue drinking electrolytes, it's not too difficult. I used to love fasting; you just have to do it with awareness.

Depends on how much fat you have really people have gone a year without eating and just taking vitamins but unless your 600 pounds you won’t last that long
@@EmilyTV33 how can you be healthy without even eating???
@@markmartin5364 I’m reasonably sure this is a false statement. A year? Not a chance.
You can easily survive a month with no food even more. Your body will cleanse, you'll feel great, energetic etc. Many chronic issues will resolve. It is the secret doctors don't want you to know about.
I went four days without eating before. It really wasn't that bad.
Depression can cause this, days in bed and not eating or just eating a banana due to self loathing and despair
The longest I’ve ever gone recently without food and even water was about 3 days without water 5 without food.
I feel this heavily during the "rough" parts of my life. Truly thought I was gonna die within the next week.
Lol it’s not that bad. I did 2 weeks of only water diet and didn’t experience that bad symptoms.
Yea but without both food and water, you can experience these kind of symptoms.
Love these series
I think its important to clear the fact that...this doesn't really happen so quickly
You take around 3 days to finish the glucose supply in your body, after 3 days you start using muscle instead of body fat to make energy.
If you're overweight, you'll have enough glucose to last you a while
There was once a case where a severely overweight guy went on a fast for 382 days, under the supervision of doctors, and he was given enough multivitamins
He dropped from 465lbs to 180lbs by the end of 382 days
So...everyone's body is different and everyone's body response will be different as well
I suggest a video title edit because people don't seem to tell the difference between fasting and STARVING.
A small group of people and I out there are born with a genetic condition called Vasovagal Syncope (which can later develop to Anoxic Seizures) people call it a heart condition but really it’s a Central nervous system disorder our vagus nerve forgets to tell our hearts to do its job so our blood pressure and heart rate plummet and we experience syncope (faint) basically the first few days of this can be sped up immensely
i also have vasovagal syncope. it effects me most when i get injured, or get needles.
You too?
What's your trigger? Mine is triggered by too hot food.
Heat, hunger, dehydration and exhaustion. sight of blood/injury (hemophobia) this is acquired through past experiences.
TIP: Good diet and a decent exercise routine will prevent syncope/seizures from being triggered.
a needle poke almost kills me sometimes =( I'm not scared, it just happens and my heart rate slows to like 20 bpm and i can't see anymore !

I'm about 15 lbs overweight, and I'm blessed that the fibromyalgia isn't worse than what it is.

I didn't lose much weight actually, because I was already really thin, but now that I'm eating like I used to eat before, I also noticed that I'm struggling to keep my size and that it had never been a problem before.

I loooooove The Infographics Show!!!!!

Had a math teacher who fasted for 31 days and she felt better than ever (and taught better).

I loved learning the digestive track in anatomy and physiology.
If you're morbidly obese, then starvation won't be such a dicey issue 😅
It is also 1 way to lose weight, but by far THE WORST possible option in the long run!
So, the people who starve/fast say this video is exaggerated, and the people who are in recovery from eating disorders say this video is accurate. I think I'll listen to the people in recovery.
