Our roof plumber Darren shows you how to install a barge capping flashing on a gable roof. The roofing sheet profile on this roof was corrugated iron in COLORBOND. These instructions can be used with both COLORBOND® or ZINCALUME® steel.

Waterproof the junction between the fascia or barge board and roof sheeting, providing an attractive finish to the roof.

What is a gable roof?
A gable roof is the classic, most commonly occurring roof shape in those parts of the world. It consists of two roof sections sloping in opposite directions and placed such that the highest, horizontal edges meet to form the roof ridge.

FYI - It's actually a requirement in AS 1562.1:2018 section 4.8.3 to fix on upper and side. HB 39:2015 section 8.7 shows the use of concealed fastening clips for side so fixings are not visible.

Perfect for my steel roof project. Tvm. Quick question. I used a damp proof membrane over marine ply wood and then put the steel roof over the dpm but im getting mold on the inside of the ply wood. Where do i apply insulation? Between dpm and steel roof, between dpm and ply, or inside shed and apply to inside ply wood? Thanks

Hi Isobel. The roll top ridge is the last part of the roof to be installed. There is another video that we have done for this 🤙🛴

Thanks for these informative videos. Can I ask how you do it when the quad gutter butts into the fascia board I.e. the board runs and extends past the stop end of the gutter?

Jonathan Rashleigh . Hi Jonathan. Great question, you need to use an extra length of barge capping along the straight section, bend down the far side to make it neat and join up the other side with the barge that runs up on the angle. 😊 regards Daz

Stops capillary action (water running behind the metal) and it also looks better because without the hook you see bowes in the metal

A bit of advice about use of handed snips would good.
Using impact driver on roof screws is not recommend by fastening suppliers as it damages the coating. Drill driver is faster and quieter.
