    When I drill a hole in my roof sheeting I have to use a nail as a centre punch so my drill doesn’t slide all over the show. You just drill and no slipping. What’s the secret? Maybe my bit is blunt. Great video though. It has taught me everything I need to know.

    • @metalroofing7210
      @metalroofing7210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      David Robinson hi David. It does take quite allot of practice before you can put the screws in without the drill slipping. It would greatly help you if you just pre drill all the holes first. 😊 regards Daz

    you certainly know your trade very well but I wish you had show how you marked the ridge end caps a bit more clearly as I certainly find it difficult to see where you had the pencil marking and the small lugs that you allowed for riveting down from top. You have to slow down for slow buggers like me. Otherwise it was very good.

    Are you suppose to screw through the kick on the ridge, usually I go 10 to 20 mm up chalk lined but in NZ we use a soft edge which we dolly down. Why doesn't Australia use a soft edge on ridges?

    So what is to stop water getting under the ridge if rain comes from either side in wind or the gutters are blocked and water backs up to the centre line? It doesn't appear to be water tight at all there's no seal on the low ridges in the roof sheeting where it meets the cap?

    • @metalroofing7210
      @metalroofing7210 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fortunately where I am located, we do not get the extreme weather which it would require for the wind to drive the rain through the small gap in the corrugation up hill on a pitched roof to make it over the end of the sheets. If you do live in a location which does get this extreme weather then you are required to scribe each side of the ridge capping to sit down into each corrugation so that there a no gaps. As for the guttering getting blocked and the water backing all the way up the sheets and under the ridge capping!! This would be impossible because the gutter would just overflow either over the front of the gutter or over the back of the gutter. Hopefully you would gone with the gutter with the overflow slots and the water spills out the front of the gutter causing less damage

    What if u cut the tabs and inserted them inside the channel then you wouldn’t see them at all pop your rivets where all you would see is the cap?You could even drill your holes(top side then mark you tabs (so predrill if your worried about a possible miss)before your rivets?,Just a thought,no disrespect as you do fantastic work!!!Thank You and those such as yourselves that share your craft in order to help those(such as myself)Who are about to do their first metal roof!!!Wish me luck!!

    You shouldn’t be using a impact gun on a roof because it removes the paint on the screws, use a normal drill instead

    Do you have to trim it back on an angle like that or can you have it square with the barge? What are the pros / cons? Is it purely aesthetics?

    • @metalroofing7210
      @metalroofing7210 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. You are right it is purely for aesthetics purposes that I cut it on the angle. If you prefer to have it square with the barge then that would be fine also 🤙

    • @AggregateUser
      @AggregateUser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The video is great but I have to disagree. The lip on the roll cap means that if you run it straight, there will be a slight gap on the end. It’s just poor work. Cutting it where you did in the video allows it to sit flush, and be sealed and riveted water tight. You can still run it straight but you should at least trim the lip off where it travels above the barge cap.

      Do not put screw on the drip edge like the example in this video. Go about 20mm above the crease before the drip edge. Screw laps and centres make sure you flick a line for straight screw lines. The example in the video is wrong

    Not a fan of unnecessary rivets, to hold the flashing in place. We all know they break down in time. T17 straight in

    • @metalroofing7210
      @metalroofing7210 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pink Roofing. In my experience I have found it far easier to line up the roll top ridge and get all the crease marks out of it with firstly just using rivets. Then once you have it perfectly in place then screwing it off. trying to do this with just screws from the start usually results in crease marks which look unsightly. 👍

    • @pinkroofing9214
      @pinkroofing9214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@metalroofing7210 from my experience stripping old roofs that these rivets will become holes and the first part of the roof to fail. It's not about easier, it's about making it work no matter how painful. Any ideas that make it easier and subject to failure are a fail in there own right.
      Where a rivet is placed there should also be sealant as a gasket.
      Happy days
