I traded my 2016 GLS450 for a 2023 GLS450 last summer. Discovered your channel looking for videos to learn tech and learned a lot. I did not like the grill or steering wheel on the 2024. My new car is easier to drive and smoother than the 2016 GLS. First time for heated and cooled seats (spoiled now). New vehicle has four captains chairs and the third row. I wasn't in the market for this seat arrangement, but it is enjoyed by passengers. My husband previously had a GLE, and suggested I go smaller, but I never liked the ride or drive of it compared to my GLS. I knew what I needed and smaller would never work for me long term. Plus I want smooth driving and ride. Gas mileage is better than my previous GLS.
Ah nice! Thanks for checking out the videos! Yeah the GLS is a very luxurious model! I love it! Bit big for me though but if you need the space and love the tech! 🤓
hey Nick thanks for the videos. greetings from Australia. i bought my first MB A200 last March and in the lead up i watched many of your vids to help me understand the tech and features. loving the car so far. you mention the haptic buttons on the steering wheel a number of times. on my car i have the haptic buttons but i can also press them like a normal button. so in some instances i use the 'real' pushbutton and other instances i use the haptic button. keep up the videos, love em. cheers
Ah thank you! Glad you love the videos! Yes quite a few manufacturers have gone down this route with a sort of smooth flat surface but with a sort of touch interface for buttons. They do work fine, but the only issue is for newer drivers, you have to look down while driving to see what your next button is. So instead of feeling where the button is, it’s completely flat. It can take your eyes off the road temporarily. It is something you get used to and having had my car for the past year it is something that I know inside and out but for anyone who’s transitioning to this type of touch screening wheel, they might want to try it out first.
Hi, new here and loving you're way of reviewing the car. And yes, agree the brown wood also not for me. Piano black should work. Greetings from Capetown South Africa 🇿🇦
Yes to MBUX. Any noise on full steering lock in car park? An All Terrain I had for weekend was terrible. Please can you review the E450d in exclusive premium plus brown nappa trim. Thanks
Didn’t notice it to be honest as I did have to do some tighter turns due to it’s size but…it is silent on the inside so not sure if there was any noise on the exterior.
Love the colour on this - Alpine Grey... Probably the most beautiful colour. Also carwow which had the same car noticed lots of panel gaps. Did you?? Plus he said the panels didn't line up and there was fog already inside the lights.?
Oh yeah that’s cool! I should have done the stick of truth test! 😜 Actually no not at all! I did not notice any panel gaps on this car. Mist is completely normal on modern headlights as they are not sealed units. Due to the temp difference on the inside vs outside it can happen, so completely normal. However I did note that actual droplets of water were present in that video of his which is not normal. But I can confirm I did not experience that in my time with the car 🙏 perhaps it was rectified, not sure on that one.
Hi Nick, great review. This video helped me to decide on my upgrade from a GLC to a GLS. The GLC was my first step into a M-B product and I've enjoyed learning all the M-B tricks from your videos. I have a question on the GLS and the entry/exit setup. When I turned on this feature in my GLC the seat would move back and the steering wheel forward, which provided plenty of room for me to exit. On my GLS with the same option on, the seat wants to shove me out and you really need to be ready to get out when you open the door otherwise it will try to squeeze you on the wheel! Is there a way to set the entry/exit like on my GLC to just move back and give me room and not push me out? Thanks
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Ooo nice! Sadly I didn’t enable it when I had that car so not sure on what it does specifically on the GLS although I assumed it would be the same for all. Usually as you said it’ll move the seat back. If it’s not working as you think I’d recommend getting in touch with your local dealer and hopefully they can take a look! 🤓
@@npoleary Thanks for the reply! The specific name of the feature is called "easy entry and exit." I think it's an option available only on the higher part of the lineup such as the S? I didn't notice it on the GLE I tested. A quick search on the web and forums (now that I have the correct name) seems to indicate I'm not alone in encountering the quirks of this feature. Specifically it seems to move the seatback even with the B-pillar to "allow" for easier exit, but then not so easy an entry. I think M-B needs to do a software update on this "feature" as it doesn't seem to be all that "easy."
Oh yeah I know the name! I have used it before on Mercedes cars plenty of times but didn’t specifically enable it on this car. I know it can vary as to exactly what this feature does depending if it’s a coupe (with very wide doors) to a car with 5 doors (normal sized cars). Some will move the backrest where as some will move the entire seat. Unless of course the function of it has changed?
The thing I want to know is about the paint. Manufaktur Apline Grey specifically. It is an extra on top of the metallic options but seems like it is just a solid paint so I cannot fathom what makes it more expensive? surely not just fashion/popularity? I would love to know the answer if you have any knowledge about this paint option. Thanks.
Honestly sure why that particular paint is so much more. The term Manufaktur originated (I believe) from the G-Class where people can customise and choose their bespoke version from the inside materials to the exterior paint. I am guessing that Manufaktur came from that model which might explain the cost? It certainly is my favourite out of the ones available although not sure I could stretch to it personally if I was in the market for a car that size. If I ever get to speak to someone in charge of GLS, I’ll ask them! 🤓👍🏼
@@npoleary Thanks for taking the time to reply Nick. I have a GLC in Manufaktur Alpine Grey. But since it was a £925 extra I asked the dealer why and there was no answer. Assumed there was something about the paint that offered a benefit, an ingredient that costs more and or gives something extra to what is other wise just a plain solid colour. So yes if you can get to the bottom of it I’d be so grateful to learn. I have drawn a blank with dealers, google and mercedes website. Hey Nick, great videos. Quick one, the double tap disable keyless function doesnt work on my wifes 24 plate a class. Has something changed Thanks in advance jason
Well Mercedes will probably change the spec of their cars as they do every year but the shape probably won’t change. The facelift has only just come out, I’ve covered that very recently. Mercedes usually run on a 3-4 year cycle so I highly doubt it would change for a while yet. But if I hear anything I’ll keep everyone posted!

There was no tablets on 2023 GLS version on 2nd row How come they added back in 2024 model ? First it was on older Model then they removed those screens then again they added back ? Why ? Also very important question I have. Probably for all models I am 100% sure 2 months ago when you do “start position” on any Mercedes let say GLS they also automatically adjust side mirrors based on person height But now they don’t do that anymore they removed that feature from GLS 2023 Can you please whether 2024 model Has it or not ? If yes it seems probably all for business so they can sell 2024 faster ))) And 3rd question why the bounce mode is disabled to UK version why ? Also on the 1sr row 2023 GLS doesn’t have cup holder heat and cool but only just holder . Why 2024 model has it and 2018 also has it I am just confused how they decide to remove and re add some features.
Honestly I think from the list of GLS models 2023 is the worst version Meaning 2019-2023 models are the worst in terms of feature * no heated cup holders 1st row * no screens on 2nd row * no bounce mode . Meaning when curving left or right it worn tilt left or right * no dashcam * no perfume holder inside glove box (all S models has it I think ) except GLS 2023 * and the new horrible feature . Side mirrors are not auto adjust ed by height anymore (((( Anyway
Specs will always change over time so you’ll have to ask Mercedes those questions I’m afraid. Only the people who work for them can probably answer that! However as I review several car manufacturers, some are similar, it’s usually down to availability and competition. I’ve heard from some insider info that for example Mercedes have a team in their head office that constantly track their competition and adjust the specs and price to be competitive. This is again because they use Premium and Premium Plus packages here. Even on this car, it didn’t feature the blinds in the rear whereas if you order a new one now, it will have them. Specs are adjusted for each model usually 2-3 times a year with things added or taken off and prices adjust up and down so you’ll have to chat with a dealer for the most up to date info! One of the reasons I don’t run though specs in detail too much as it’ll be out of date months later! 😂 Bounce mode I did ask, that’s just on the Maybach version.
This is probably the best engine for the car! I’m sure it’s got nearly the same amount of torque as the 63. Are these 450d models twin turbo or tri turbos because I think this is one of the most powerful 3l diesel engines in production rn. Would be a nice comparison with the X7 50d
Yeah defo it’s a beautiful engine! I did have an X7 pencilled in for test but sadly it’s been moved for now. My plan is to cover that too though so keep an eye out! I believe possibly twin?
@@dushenepaulusha7210 depends on how you plan on using it. I had a 2021 GLE 350d with a 3l diesel and I ended up trading it in after 2 EGR replacements and oil in the DPF after 40k miles. @@alexbr88 yhhh, diesels need a good 30 min run at 70 every week or so, they aren’t designed for urban use. It’s mainly the emissions things like egr DPF that arnt too happy with short drives. Also diesels take much longer to get up to operating temperature so it’s less efficient on shorter drives

Sadly on virtually every car I’ve ever tested and reviewed, TH-cam doesn’t exist. There are a couple that do have it but for the ones that don’t I’ve had a lot of requests to see if there was a workaround. Some models like Mercedes they have the vertical screen might work through the browser, however I did look at an external device like this: th-cam.com/video/BAMKMsxAzto/w-d-xo.html And this: th-cam.com/video/k7J44kMtD5U/w-d-xo.html Where you can add an HDMI port to the car. Mercedes certainly don’t support that natively but try in the browser first 🤓
I think the GLS Maybach does 🤓 However looking at where the star on the bonnet is positioned, it could be changed. I’ve seen other models with stars on them before that definitely don’t have them from new so I’m sure it’s possible!
The price cannot be justified for that type of low interior quality. It needs to be better. The X7 and even Volvo XC90 feels more expensive despite being cheaper.
I’d love to check that out again! I remember I saw one before and it had very thick fluffy carpet. Never seen that in a car before! But that’s what you get on something like that 🤓
I have changed many Mercs, bro forget about GLS, with the same money buy 2 Hyundai palaside it has a bigger room, better technology in the cabin and more free features that you need in reality not $5000 top up for each feature... 😂
Not featured Hyundai on my channel yet but some of their cars do look interesting! I’ve driven a couple already too! If enough people want me to cover more brands then I could look into it!
@@npoleary Nick I have been following your videos most of the time, between me and you when I sat in Hyundai Palaside and tried it's full options features I told my friend 😕 I wasted my money on Mercedes, had to pay $5000 extra for each feature which makes it 20k to 35k over the basic, and that's a Price of buying 2 Palaside 😞 Many thanks for your always helpful videos, thumbs up for you No-1
Awh thank you! I’m sure I’ll make a video about that sort of topic somewhen…one of the reasons why I stated to cover other brands. Just gives people a choice especially with the possibility of EV’s on the horizon. I’ll explain more in a future video 🤓
This 3rd- row stuff is complete fail on part of all car manufacturers. It's an exception use case. In most cases there is a family of 4 or 5, so it would be smarter to have a longer slide for the second row so the seats can be pushed way back or front depending on what you want: more cargo or more space between the front and back seats. Both my children kick, when they have a tantrum, it's non-stop. I don't want to put them in the third row for safety reasons. Why have a third row if it's super uncomfortable or unusable?
That would be cool! With as you said an extra bit of room for the 2nd row. I guess cars like MPV’s could do that, Mercedes V-Class, VW Transporter etc. but then they might not be as stylish as your normal car. Gap in the market! 😅
Tell you what mate you could carry your A class in that. Nobody actually needs a car this big it’s just a statement and usually shows that someone needs to compensate for other things 😂
What model of Toyota do you drive? 🤓 I’ve not covered them on my channel yet, but never say never! If enough people want me to cover more brands then I might look into it!
I think it’s good that Mercedes do a slightly different grille on some models, they can’t all be the same 🤓 But yeah I do like the grille on the C-Class!
Another great review Nick. Always enjoy watching.

Might have been faulty but it didn't help that I did mostly urban trips. Got a 2024 GLS 580. Not the most sensible choice, but I wanted to experience a V8 before they go extinct
@@dushenepaulusha7210 I did try to take it for a run every week, but apparently it was not enough. Can't complain, it gave me a reason to upgrade, and what an upgrade it was
How do you get TH-cam to work in the mbux? I just hold of a 2024 EQE350+, Pinnacle Trim with AMG, RWD
G
Sadly on virtually every car I’ve ever tested and reviewed, TH-cam doesn’t exist. There are a couple that do have it but for the ones that don’t I’ve had a lot of requests to see if there was a workaround.
Some models like Mercedes they have the vertical screen might work through the browser, however I did look at an external device like this:
th-cam.com/video/BAMKMsxAzto/w-d-xo.html
And this:
th-cam.com/video/k7J44kMtD5U/w-d-xo.html
Where you can add an HDMI port to the car.
Mercedes certainly don’t support that natively but try in the browser first 🤓
is this better than the Escalade?
Sadly never tired that model so don’t know what that’s like
My father had one, and I am on my second GLS. There is no comparison. The GLS hands down rides and drives much better.
i really wish they would re do the grill esp at that price point
What would you change it to? 👍🏼
I petition the GLS should get the star emblem like the S class given that it is intended to be its equivalent.
I think the GLS Maybach does 🤓
However looking at where the star on the bonnet is positioned, it could be changed. I’ve seen other models with stars on them before that definitely don’t have them from new so I’m sure it’s possible!
Keeping it going, third.
😜
Hi Nick
Blimey it’s got some amount of tech….i am with you I don’t like the brown wood effect… looks terrible…
I know it is pretty cool! 😎
The new ones don’t have that now 👌🏼
The price cannot be justified for that type of low interior quality. It needs to be better. The X7 and even Volvo XC90 feels more expensive despite being cheaper.
Love that Nick keeps reminding us of his super long legs :)
I actually have to! 😅
I’ve left it out on purpose before and boy were people quick to point out I’d didn’t say how tall I was 😅
@@npoleary I feel you, I’m 6’1 with long legs 😂
GLS Is Good. But GLS Maybach Is perfect
GLE is optimum🤌
I’d love to check that out again!
I remember I saw one before and it had very thick fluffy carpet. Never seen that in a car before! But that’s what you get on something like that 🤓
@iniester6724 GLE is good! 👍🏼 enjoyed that car too! Little bit shorter so more manageable in town’s / cities and built up areas etc
Under 2 hour gang
👇
Under 2 hour gang rocks 👊🏼 😎
🤩🤩🤩🎉
Got the same screens from China for $600 delivered. 😂
Fair enough! 🤓
Personally I would put iPads in the back but…downside to that would be they won’t sync the playback together.
@@npoleary Nick I have been following your videos most of the time, between me and you when I sat in Hyundai Palaside and tried it's full options features I told my friend 😕 I wasted my money on Mercedes, had to pay $5000 extra for each feature which makes it 20k to 35k over the basic, and that's a Price of buying 2 Palaside 😞
Many thanks for your always helpful videos, thumbs up for you No-1
Awh thank you! I’m sure I’ll make a video about that sort of topic somewhen…one of the reasons why I stated to cover other brands. Just gives people a choice especially with the possibility of EV’s on the horizon.
I’ll explain more in a future video 🤓
@@npoleary legend 👍
That front grill belongs to a truck or a pickup, not a fine premium SUV 😮
I miss your “black clothes” branding!
Honestly it was way to hot for black today 😅
I still have them and they’ll come back when it gets cooler!
Front grill looks Like a copy paste Of a Land cruiser.
That grill is hideous 😮
What do you prefer the Mercedes stars ones? 🤓
iTS A GLORIFIED vAN
Tell you what mate you could carry your A class in that. Nobody actually needs a car this big it’s just a statement and usually shows that someone needs to compensate for other things 😂
Haha I could carry my car in it! 😅
Hey look you never know, could be growing families, maybe you actually need a 7 seater 🤓
@@npoleary even needing a 7 seater these are still huge lmao.
I regularly use mine to carry 6 other people. Not much room for 7 people's worth of luggage, but it does comfortably sit 7
That front grill is horrible.
Do you prefer the mini Mercedes stars? 🌟
@@npoleary No, I prefer what Bruno Sacco had achieved back in the day.
I hated it but now it’s slowly growing on me.
I guess it’s nice to see some different grilles compared to the ones with all of the stars. They can’t all be the same otherwise it’ll get boring 😅
@@kukujiaoboii1331 Yes, it's bleedingly growing on eyesight.
Wouldn’t fit in my garage 🤣
Yeah actually not sure it would fit in mine either 😂
Just about fit on my drive when I had it
What a crap colour ! I hate grey cars is should keep as primer and not a finish colour.
First as usual
haha that was super speedy! 👊🏼
@@npoleary hi nick
Hi Nick 😊 not first but almost!!!!!
Badge is like a dinner 🍽 plate!!!
Oh hi! 👋
SECOND WOW
Haha 😅
Did you overtook that innocent Cyclist ? is he still alive ? :D
I kept my distance 😎
Always need to give them plenty of room 👍🏼
Mercedes 'quality' is crap!
I made a big mistake in buying a Merc which had terrible devaluation.
Drive a Toyota now, far superior quality.
What model of Toyota do you drive? 🤓
I’ve not covered them on my channel yet, but never say never! If enough people want me to cover more brands then I might look into it!
I don’t like the grill. The grill on my 2023 C 300 coupe is beautiful.!!!!
I think it’s good that Mercedes do a slightly different grille on some models, they can’t all be the same 🤓
But yeah I do like the grille on the C-Class!
