I fail to see the appeal in that feature, I would have parked the car myself way faster than the assist did. Especially the S-class which moved like a turtle around the building.
Nick, what you forgot to video is how you did the recording for the memory of the parking. Could you do a video showing how you set up memory park assist? Secondly, I recently got the 2023 Mercedes SL43 AMG, I know it comes with park assist, BUT what I don't know is if it came with the memory park assist feature? Does the SL's come with memory park assist or does ONLY the S classes come with memory park assist?
Really sorry I wouldn’t know if it has memory park assist. If you contact Mercedes they can check it for you. But you can see yourself on the car too, I remember when I filmed it, pressing the park assist button, if it has memory park assist it’ll be there on the top. If I’m at my local Mercedes and have access to one again I might make a video, it was pretty easy though to program though. You basically press the record button and drive. It tells you what to do on the screen 😇
Watched this when I got my car 5 months ago. Used this for the first time on a spot that I was convinced too small to fit (and I consider myself a PPP parallel parking pro😂). My notes from the video helped and parked the car like a dream. Yes I had to go round once because someone was riding my tail…but it was worth it. Ps it changed the gears for me …I did nothing but kept my foot hovered over the brakes just in case.
I just bought a Mercedes, and had no idea it had a park assist. But when I tried pushing all the buttons, I realised it had one. And I came here to figure out how it works. So thanks for the demonstration!
another great tutorial...thanks to Nick. Having 30 years in Car Talk Broadcasting, I am most impressed by his simply but specific explanations. Great job!
Thanks Nick for another great video. I am leasing a 2022 A Class 220 which came equipped with the active park assist. I tried using the feature a couple of times and it did not work for me very well. However, after watching your video I realize the mistakes I was making. This video is super helpful as well as all your other videps I have watched thus far. Your videos are better than reading the manual and are far more interesting 🙂. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Nick! Another great video. Just purchased a new E300e, started to study a 550 pages manual but luckily discovered your channel! No more reading! Thanks for your efforts!
The used gle 350 2022 I bought didn’t list this as a feature while other listings had it listed so we just thought it wouldn’t have it. Paid to purchase the original window stocked to get an idea of what features there actually are as the was the heated and cooled cup holders but it was not listed on the website. So we thought they might’ve missed a lot of features and they sure did! There is the park assist, and the full driver’s assistance package plus! Not to mentioned that the amg exterior package was not listed as well, but that you can clearly tell. We haven’t had much time to explode the different features until now so was pleasantly surprised to find all the extra features!
Thanks Nick, great video! I have a B250e. I use park assist and it works great, but it is a bit slow, so if there are other cars behind me I usually don't use it but instead park manually because I can do it faster.
I have this system in my C Class. One thing you didn't mention is that you can then use the same automation to get the car to drive you out of the parking spot when it's next started; useful if you've used park assist to park in an awkward spot.
@@npolearynot just for pararel parking as I've used this feature on mine. Unfortunately I don’t use it much as it occasionally does a loud grinding sound (like grinding a manual transmission gear from not pressing the clutch) - not sure if this is what you mentioned on the video, but it's so loud it genuinely scares me and is embarassing in public. Love your videos!
Good video again Nick. I have used it quite scary and very slow especially if anyone is behind waiting they think you can’t drive. Also if no one is behind I park it myself as I can drive 😂
Thanks for the video. I'm new to Mercedes and a consistent seems to be confusion on purchased car specifications and massive manuals. Exactly my experience too. I knew I had park assist but I believe it only parks centrally between two cars so is pretty limited as it requires their to be two properly parked cars to work - life is too short to rule out all the other parking spaces just to use tech!
No worries! Glad you enjoyed it! Yes sadly most manufacturers are like that these days where specs can vary. But for Mercedes they often a have a brand new model every 6-7 years with a facelift halfway in between. And in the middle of that too, they might update specification and adjust prices etc. I’ve found their brochures though to be the most useful, I’ve got loads dating back to I think around 2014 but I’ve created and produced a lot of videos since 2020 which may help too on Mercedes 🤓
Great video Nick which I am going to study in more detail. I have a 2 month old CLA 250e, I’ve had a play around with park assist but it seems to only want to park me front ways in, not reverse so this is what I need to look at in greater detail, I must be missing something. 9 times out of 10 I choose the reverse park. Keep up the videos Nick, good stuff 😊
I very occasionally use it in my EQC in tight car parks as it's good at judging distances between cars to open doors. Very disappointed when I first discovered that it doesn't parallel park but the 360 camera makes parallel parking a lot easier anyway.
I have a 2021 A250e, with park assist (the second one, with button), very very very cool and impressive... unfortunately I always parked manually since I have a driving licence (30 years) and I don't use this feature... but it's great when you freak out friends ha ha
Great video Nick! I just bought an A200 and am a bit scared to try this out. My allocated parking spot is a perpendicular one and is one of many in a lane of other perpendicular parking spaces. The problem is a parallel second lane of these parking spaces is very close to the first. Would the park assist system be able to detect and avoid colliding with these parked cars in the second lane and do the repetitive 'forward and reverse' that I would ordinarily do to fit into my tight parking spot? Thanks!
Thank you! It can but please remember it is a “park assist” there are so many people who message me and say they let go everything and watch the car do its manoeuvre. Please don’t do that. You know when you are in drive and you take your foot off the accelerator pedal and it’s starts to move and you control the car with your brake pedal? That’s exactly what it feels like when it’s going the manoeuvre. The only main difference is that it steers for you as well. So you watch it as it does it, while using the brake pedal and if the turn doesn’t look quite right. Foot on the brake (as if you were driving yourself and it’ll stop). Move the steering wheel to cancel. The key takeaway is that it just assists. Generally as a rule of thumb, if it can be detected by parking sensors, then it “should” detect objects in its path. But watch it and keep your foot hovering over the brake pedal the same way you would drive normally.
@@npoleary thanks Nick for your prompt response. So as I understand the parking sensors should be able to detect obstructions in its path while manouvering and correct its course as it makes its way towards the parking spot it identified?
It should do, but depends how close those cars are but you as the driver need to watch it in its course. You are in control. You are responsible for it. So if it starts to get pretty close or someone walks in front, just apply the brake pedal. And if you wish to, grab the steering wheel to cancel it.
i have just bought a mercedes , my first car with Parking Assist. I have some trust issues with it though. if the park assist malfunctions and causes a crash when parking, will mercedes repair it and any other third party vehicles involved?
Definitely not! This is a park assist system, so it “assists” whoever is sat in the driver’s seat. It does not take over the role of a driver. The easiest way of me describing this is that you know when you take your foot off the brake pedal when you’re in drive, the car creeps forward? It’s the same feeling, you control the speed of the car. So you are still driving, it’s just a lot slower and it does the steering. And it’s up to you as a driver to control the speed, watch the mirrors and monitor it moving and if at any point you are not happy, grab the wheel and turn it to cancel. Park assist only uses parking sensors which uses ultrasonic sensors, so if parking sensors can detect something, then park assist will detect it. Hopefully that helps a little!
Thank you for all your video’s It’s great, but: In winter, when my GLA200 2021 is in parking P mode, the brake is automatically on. But when it freezes hard, can you park in gear, without the automatic handbrake? How do you do that? or is that possible?
Thank you! Honestly I’ve never been in such cold weather to experience that. Years ago I drove a Mercedes with an automatic handbrake and that was fine when we had cold snaps down to -5°C
th-cam.com/video/Y1D4UbIFYGw/w-d-xo.html&si=rWrLa4_LuVM_3CxU Glad you enjoyed the video! On the link above, basically means the car is ready to go. You’ve switched it on so the engine is live / on.
That is a very pleasant feature while you are still learning your car or your car's measurements. Once you got used to it, any average driver will park faster as precise, which makes it useless in my eyes.
It can vary, I show three systems in the video and with multiple cameras going, I show it all in live “real time”. Some multimedia systems like MBUX might do it slightly quicker though
Hello nick.very useful video but I have one question.what if a piece of paper goes to the eye of LiDAR,the car will be stop immediately or not.cause the technology is very useful but is some cases…..
Hi Nick great video, I was just wondering what you can do when the car fails to recognise a space you want to park in? A lot of times the car doesn't bong when you drive past a space when it is supposed to be scanning.
Hi Nick, nice video as always. but there's a joke, now i have a new gla and before i had the old model. The old model could parallel park but not L park. the new model can do L parking but not parallel parking. I can’t understand why? Is lt my mistake or missing feature for new model?
I really like this syestem cause my Mercedes Gle350 2024 cause when it scans it it tells me which one than I pick and it does everything I don’t have to do anything except for the brake. W MERCEDES GLE350 2024
Good video, what MB doesn’t tell you is that it can only and only park between two cars. It cannot identify parking spots if no car has parked on the sides. Technically if there are two empty spots right beside each other it fails to find it or even park there. Also it cannot park into a garage.
@@npoleary exactly that’s because they rely on ultrasound. In case of the garage there are the walls but still it cannot find it. I would say they should upgrade the system to use more advanced sensors. It’s not the most honest selling feature. Should not be advertised without mentioning the huge limitations IMO.
@@naimnaim8524with 360 camera being norm in Merc and AI growing as it has recently, I'm sure they can use that with the ultrasound to largely improve this feature
Hi there and thanks for all the videos - love them. I have a question about the Manoeuvring Assistant feature on my 2021 CLA Shooting Brake. There seems confusion about what this actually does - referring also to Drive Away Assist in the same part of the manual. Is this something that just happens when using Parking Assist or does it also work if parking without using Parking Assist. Any help and explanation appreciated.
Thank you! Yes it’s the same thing Quite clever actually, designed to help with accidentally pulling away in the wrong gear or if something is in the way or something.
I'm having a hard time coming up with any common reason to use this feature and pay the extra money for it. I guess if my hand/arm was incapacitated, yea. It's just a neat little very expensive car trick.
Hi Nick Just got my first Mercedes with minx and your channel is a saviour When you get a chance could you cover radio functions in particular Tuning Prevent losing freq Tune in radio what is this Thanks Lee
Hey Lee! Thank you! Ah tuning is automatic in Mercedes, there aren’t any manual “tune” buttons so you simply swipe or spin the wheel (depending on what car you have) and find your favourite. Tune In Radio is a separate company which issues data to stream radio over the internet rather than use FM/DAB
Nick, this doesn't work every time, I own CLA 200, and it never detects parking in my housing lower level parking, and it has a bug if there's a pillar close to the parking white line it does not detect and apply auto breaks. It keeps parking this gave a dent in my car. This is good for open parking areas but not a reliable feature.
Well in that scenario, it depends on the situation. It’s officially only designed to work in between two cars. But there are a couple of use cases where it may work. Basically the car needs to “see” larger objects either side of a space 🤓
Thanks for the video Nick. I have EQC 4matic 2021. I have the park assist button which upon pressing gives an option on the screen of normal, wide camera view and park assist. When i press park assist the screen shows its on however the little car icon in the upper right hand corner does not show any activity of scanning the space around the car. a friend has identical model with identical specs and she has it all working. its just my car that seems to be acting strange. unless i have the EU restriction and she doesn’t which is even more bizarre. secondly my car does not go into ‘hold’ mode when i ease and apply hard the foot break 🙁
Ah it’ll probably be because of the UN-R 79 regulations that I mentioned in another video. There will be some models of car out there that still have it but of course some won’t. Depends on when it was built etc. Also I’ve not seen a Mercedes without hold, are you sure it’s a short and sharp press when stationary? If you get stuck just pop into your local Mercedes, I’m sure they’ll be able to help! 🤓
I just traded in a 2019 S class for a 2023 s class. The park assist on the 2019 Worked very well never had an issue with finding or parking. The 2023 Park assist is horrible it doesn't identify spots That it should be identifying. I've had the car for 2 months and have tried using it A few times but it's really only worked once.
@npoleary My dealer here in new jersey, When I picked a car up a few months ago. They said the dealership's policy was not to demonstrate park assist due to collision issues and liability.
Also the violent shaking of the steering wheel or sudden moves, does not give the driver of feeling of safety. You don't know if the car gone mad, or is part of the program :))
So while using parking assist there shouldn’t be any “violent shaking”. It should look like I showed in the video. If there’s anything like that I suggest you get in touch with a dealer or mechanic who can check it out for you
Good afternoon Nick....do you know if a 2015 SL400 has bay parking? It seems to only see parallel spots (although I could be doing something incorrect). Thanks
Really sorry I only started covering Mercedes on my channel in 2020 so have limited coverage of videos prior to that. It might do? But you’ll have to check with Mercedes staff in a dealer so be 100% sure. You can check in the car, just drive past a bay parking space and see if the white arrow pops up after the space 👍🏼
Hey Nick, Can memory park assist track a path towards a normal garage at home & drive forward through the door opening of the garage bay & then be able to reverse out again when leaving? You may have covered this already but I can’t find it. Cheers Steve
No sadly not covered that specifically in a garage, I mean technically it could possibly work. I would suggest to probably try it but do the same as I did and monitor the car and use the brake pedal.
It's kind of cool, even if I never tried the feature on mine because I don't trust the automated stuff. So let's just say I will be the last one to try one of those self drive on the road, this is not my idea of driving.
I was driving 13 years a VW Tiguan, even with trailer, and that was working perfect. Now my new GLA250e is not working at all. 1 out of 100 times it finds a spot but parking is not going wel. So up to now: 100% fails!
Could UN-R-79 be the reason why my A250e's parking assist cannot pick up parallel parking spots? the parking assist only seems to pick up 90 degree (side by side) parking spaces
Yes, I believe this is correct. I too wasn't sure why my CLA wasn't detecting parallel parking spots and after reading into it apparently all car sold in the EU & UK have this feature restricted.
Yes, thanks! For me it’s fine, I almost never used Parking Assist in my GLA (rear camera and sensors front and rear) now in GLC with sensors and cameras 360° it’s even easier to park 🚗
Yes and no. It really depends. It would require the garage to be very close to the road and it must have a clear wall or pillar either side of it with a completely clear path down the middle. For example my garage is a few meters back from the road so that wouldn’t work. They use ultrasound and you have to drive past two objects with a gap in the middle that’s wide enough. So the garage would need to be literally on the road like imagine a garage in the middle of the city that leads right onto the road.
My parents have a 2019 B220 I just showed th how the automated park assist works. But one question still remains i was't able to answer. Can the car detect ditches or gaps? If you have a parking row next to a deep ditch, and you let the park assist reverse into the parking spot, will it detect the deep ditch, or will ot just reverse into the ditch and there you have the trouble? We tried but the car reversed so far to the ledge of the ditch that the back wheel was already at the ledge. And was panic stopi g it manually. Wasn't brave enough to let it continue.
Hey Robert, no sadly park assist systems like what are used in Mercedes only use parking sensors, so if something isn’t detected on there, then it won’t be detected on the system. As a rule of thumb it’s just objects that are detectable. Hope that helps!
@@npoleary Yeah it helped a lot. Man thanks. Good that i didn't let the car to finish the parking. Or else we would have ended up in that ditch :D haha :D But yeah that was my thought too, that it can probably sense things which are there but won't detect things which are not there. I also found on a 2019 Ford Focus park assist that it is sometimes not detecting small poles or fences if they are just a few cm wide. Thanks again.
@Sally Wright I have exactly the same problem with my 6 months old GLB . It looks like it’s not me who doesn’t know how to use it , it’s more of a common problem with Mercedes.
Parallel parking has been restricted on new cars due to EU reg UN R79. I believe it been like that si ce 2019 or so. I really like Nick's channel but don't understand how he omitted this key detail.
Duh, I should have watched the video until the end. Nick does in fact mention the regulation that results in some models having the parallel parking assist feature deleted.
Hey guys, if you watch all the way to the end I talk about this with a specific link to another video) There’s a link in the description, link in the comments section and link at the end of the video. It’s basically all down to United Nations Regulations, some cars have certain features restricted due to where we live.
I've got this on mine but I've never tried it . Does it work on parallel parking that's when I get frustrated if I'm parking on the left hand side of the road and you cant see how far off the curb you are and you going back on forth trying to get as close to the curb without touching it or the two cars. You should do a vid like that Nick. Parking between two cars I find easy.
@@npoleary Oooh I didn't know that Nick I wont try it in mine then lol. Hope one day they do have this function, cos I hate trying to park on a busy road between two cars, I give up and try and find a huge space hehe. Thanks for getting back to me Nick.
Hi Nick , thanks so much for your very helpful videos. I have a 2022 GLE 350DE which has parking assist activated by pushing the button . I have tried to find parking by using it but it fails most of the time . There is space between cars and it does not recognise the space or shows it as disabled grey box. Not sure what is wrong ?
@@npoleary hi Nick went to local Mercedes , which by the way is now a franchise and they told me and showed it worked. The issue is that in the ML250 I had it worked perfectly in the new 2022 barely finds a space even is there are plenty when driving.
Heya nick! I have a 71 plate CLA premium plus 2 and I have trouble with it finding a spot in car parks or parallel spots. Also I thought premium plus 2 has the adaptive cruise controls and driving assistance. Would be greate if you could explain or do a video about it
Hey ssh3005, ah nice! I’ve not heard of Premium Plus 2 before, I thought that Mercedes only had Executive, Premium, Premium Plus etc on most models. For Driving Assistance Package, usually it’s a separate package from what I’ve read. I try not to go through exact specifics because it varies round the world (each country has different specs) and if Mercedes change the packages then the video won’t be relevant anymore so it’s not something I can easily cover. I have covered the Driving Assistance Package before on my channel but I would like to cover it again with a more updated version. Trying to get in touch with them so I can make a video somewhen!
Random question but l bought a used Mercedes from a non Mercedes dealer, can I still do into my local Mercedes dealer for queries, or do they dislike it when people who didn’t buy from them come in? 😬
Hey Dymps, you can do! Quite often the larger Mercedes dealerships have Star Experts or Product Experts that can help! (This is for the UK, not sure what it’s like elsewhere in the world)
Hi Nick, yesterday when I put the car in reverse gear (road was empty and clear) suddenly when I let it rolled the car was making terrible grinding sound like from the cog wheel of the transmission and later it locked up like you hit something underneath the back wheels, any suggestion of why it happened. Thanks Nick.
Oh right? That doesn’t sound great, I would defo suggest getting in touch with a dealer so they can check it out! The second part can happen (my car has this feature) it can slam on the brakes if you’re reversing and someone walks or drive behind the path of the car behind. Not sure if they’re related though but probably best to get it checked out 🙏
I have this on my V class but sometimes it trys to do a reverse into a bay instead of parallel parking and wants to put its arse on the curb. Is there any way of switching which type of park it does?
Ah just drive past further and it should come up🤓 However I will add that it does depend on the year of car. If it’s around 2020 to 2022 there is the possibility that it doesn’t have parallel parking due to United Nations Regulations.
Hey Darren, sadly no UN-R 79 regulations won’t allow such systems to be in a car if it doesn’t have it. I haven’t heard of manufacturers disabling it though on pre-built cars so if you need help I would just contact Mercedes and see if they can help 👍🏼
I really dislike this system. It is inconsistent in “finding” a spot. If it recognizes a spot, the car moves way beyond the parking spot before it signals the spot to the driver….which is fine in an quiet parking lot, but horrible on an active street. I find you need to be very close to the parked vehicles for the system to recognize a spot. There are far better systems out there than the Mercedes system….a big disappointment on my E Class.👎
@@kencarruthers6714 Absolutely useless , a big disappointment for Mercedes. I have 6 months old GBL 250 , unfortunately I have never ever been able to use it , very annoying. From the other hand, I also have Peugeot E-2008 GT, park-assist works like a clock. So easy to use , incredibly precise, never had a problem using it .
Hi Nick, can you tell me what suppose to have in the boot of the A180, recently I bought one and only looked in the boot recently and there is nothing there at all. Thanks man.
Pretty sure in mine it was locking bolts (for the wheels), first aid kit and a tyre repair kit (also known as TIREFIX). Of course depends on the spec of the car, if they have run flats then that wouldn’t be provided.
@npoleary Thank you very much that was really helpful, I only realised it when checking the boot, there's little frame holding something but nothing there. Have a good day!
Hi Nick. Any ideea if the park assist feature can save a parking spot ( home driveway) and being able to just use the same spot without searching for spots?
I don’t believe the tech is that clever Mercedes use ultrasound for parking assist tech so it does not utilise cameras. The memory park assist found on only a couple of models might do it but if any of the pre recorded scene changed, you’d need to take over and re-record the whole thing.
Depends on the model, some do and some don’t I’ve seen it before and it’s quite a recent thing If it’s available on the car it’ll be under Settings and then Quick Access
Yeah! But check on the exact car you’re looking at. It wasn’t allowed for a short while a few years ago so wasn’t installed on some cars. My daily is an A180 and it exists on there 👍🏼
Always still use the brake pedal, you must be in control of the car at all times The car can brake for you, but you should remain in control of it just in case 👍🏼
Love the hidden features. I went out to my 2024, SEL350 AMG, 4matic,(SUV), and tried the ejector seat trick with Mercedes!!!😂 Too Funny!! I have not used, "Park-assist," yet, as it scares me...😵 I will continue watching!!! However, I received a call today from Mercedes Financial, (21-9-23) and "a month ago," I traded a 2018 300SLC for; The 2024 SLE350 W4. (I owed money on the 2018 when I traded ). Mercedes says that I have to, pay the 2018, and they say that I have two accounts...Fair enough,,, I will take both of them!!! I make $240,000, a year after taxes!!! The problem is that, the 2018, is not coming back to ME,,, Ever!!! So, if I pay for it, I want it in my driveway!!! They charged me for the 2018 in my contract???, so am I going to pay it off twice??? (NO!!!) Then please consider the reason. The 2018, is valuless!!! I owe $27,000, on the car. They can sell it for around; $16-18k. So, they would lose more than $8,000!!! The 2024, was about; $46,000+++ (the warranty, dealer fees, taxes, ect.) So, in 5 years it will be worth; 16-18k!!!😲 (And I will have one for $31,920, and, $59,420... for both Mercedes!!! (That is after they are both paid off in 2030). So, after two Mercedes I am under water by; $60,000.00!!! They are panicking because the car market is falling apart, as I type. My vehicle and BMW, Cadillac, Jaguar, Bronco, Ram, Ford, DYN, Tesla, are all making the same cars. And they are over $100,000, even more for a Maybach!!! (Maybach are $250,000+ and my steering wheel is the same one. (Old Detroit???) Thank You for the tricks. Hopefully the finance manager will take care of it for me.
Hi Nick not sure anyone has asked this question but does park assist only work on horizontal, what if you want to park on an incline has it got limitations with gradients?
Not sure on the exact gradient, there was a slight gradient on the one in my park assist video. I’m sure it would say on the screen if it couldn’t do it 🤓
Hello Nick, System will only find the space between 2 cars ? Or it does not matter? Because in my car it finds parking space only between 2 cars Please let me know Sandeep H
Hey Sandeep, yeah it looks like it uses ultrasound from the parking sensors. It’s not using any cameras, so ultrasound can only detect objects like parked cars
Officially designed to work with two cars and an available space in the middle so go careful it’s a pillar! It may detect it, but it depends on the size.
If this system could detect more than 1/20 parking spots it would be amazing. I can't tell you the number of times I just give up because it flat out doesn't work. :(
I’ve often found if you drive further past the space it’ll come up on the screen more often. If you get stuck, your local Mercedes will be able to help. Give them a shout and they can show you! 👍🏼
This is one system that I just fail to see the point of. I had it in a Volvo and I tried it once but it was so slow to react I never used it again. I’m convinced that there is no way such an auto parking system can ever work as quickly and efficiently as a driver can do it - that’s always assuming that you can park a car of course. If you are incapable of easily parking a car, bay or parallel then you shouldn’t be driving on the road as far as I’m concerned.
Will this park assist work if there is no other car parked nearby or say example the whole car park is totally empty? OR it needs a car nearby to work with the sensors?
It uses the parking sensors so it has to detect physical objects. General rule of thumb is that if parking sensors detect it, then the park assist system will detect it too.
Really sorry you’ll have to check with Mercedes staff at a dealer or on their website. Specs and packages vary massively round the world, I’ve not heard or seen of the AMG Advance Plus Package in the UK unless it’s something very new
I have never been able to get my park assist to work. I'll have it on, drive by a perfectly good parking spot and it does not notice it. Okay, sometimes it does but usually not. I have tried driving slow, driving medium. Grrr...
Have you tried driving past further? Quite often I’ve seen people have come to a stop when they themselves have passed the space but the back of the car hasn’t and the last sensor on the back has to scan the empty space and the start of next car. Hope that makes sense
Hmm, I know there was some parking regulations called UN-R 79 that came out in 2020 so it could be something to do with that. Might be worth getting in touch with them 👍🏼

We learn so much from these videos. Sales guy never gold me. I learn so much from these videos, shame MB dont make such useful videos
Thank you! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed them!
Let me know any topics that you’d like to see and I’ll pop into my local dealer and possibly record it 🙏
I just bought a Mercedes, and had no idea it had a park assist. But when I tried pushing all the buttons, I realised it had one. And I came here to figure out how it works. So thanks for the demonstration!
Ah awesome! Thanks Metal Gamer! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Me too!
another great tutorial...thanks to Nick. Having 30 years in Car Talk Broadcasting, I am most impressed by his simply but specific explanations. Great job!
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🙏
You are doing a lot of service to Mercedes customer care unit :) Thank you for your tutorials, very professional and easy to understand. Love it!
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoy them! 🤓👍🏼
Thank you so much for your kind comments! 🙏🙏🙏
Glad you’re enjoying the videos! Got more planned over the next few weeks too! 🤓
Thanks Nick!
Another great video.
Just purchased a new E300e, started to study a 550 pages manual but luckily discovered your channel! No more reading!
Thanks for your efforts!
Ah awesome thank you!! 🙏🙏
I try and upload a new video every Friday, let me know if there’s any topics I haven’t covered below! ⬇️
Thanks for this, now the mysterious P indication has to be tested 😮
Very true! ⬆️
Think it’s just for parallel parking though 🤓
@@npoleary possibly so. I haven't tried it with bay parking before.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!
Yea the noise is just the electronic brake going on. You can hear it in the video
@@npolearyI’m unclear as to how a driver chooses which way round the car parks in a bay - front first or back first.
Another great video! I have the a45S and tried using Park assist and stopped half way as it freaked me out lol
I've got an S class but I'm the same as you.
Thanks Nick, great video!
Thank you! 🙏🙏
Ah if that’s happening, drive further past the space before starting, sounds like you’re stopping too short.
Thank you! 🙏
If you wait, it will go forward and then back in at a better angle. My salesman was telling what would happen.
had a E220 for 4 years never fathamed how to use it yet ..
Thank you very much! Greetings from Germany!
Thanks for watching! 🙏
This is amazing but have to say the S-class looks stunning
I very occasionally use it in my EQC in tight car parks as it's good at judging distances between cars to open doors. Very disappointed when I first discovered that it doesn't parallel park but the 360 camera makes parallel parking a lot easier anyway.
It should be able to parallel park for you as well! Try again?
@@chris_ehrNick mentioned on the video that depending on markets and regulations, it can vome without paralel or without bay parking specifically.
I have a 2021 A250e, with park assist (the second one, with button), very very very cool and impressive... unfortunately I always parked manually since I have a driving licence (30 years) and I don't use this feature... but it's great when you freak out friends ha ha
Awesome! I wonder if mine has that? The Gls...
@@npoleary thank you!
i have just bought a mercedes , my first car with Parking Assist.
Thanks for the video. I am curious: What does the word "ready" on the screen means ?
th-cam.com/video/Y1D4UbIFYGw/w-d-xo.html&si=rWrLa4_LuVM_3CxU
Glad you enjoyed the video!
On the link above, basically means the car is ready to go. You’ve switched it on so the engine is live / on.
Works even on my 2011/12 b class (only for the side parkings tho) 🤩
That is a very pleasant feature while you are still learning your car or your car's measurements. Once you got used to it, any average driver will park faster as precise, which makes it useless in my eyes.
Well explained, thanks Nick
Thank you! 🤓🙏
Thanks Nick for the video. It seems that it will end 2 cars beside to make reference am I right to say ?
It will end when parked between two cars yeah 🤓
Nice vid but it doesn’t detect a parking spot that quickly in my experience. I drive a 2020 C class with park pilot assist.
Thank you!
Maybe! I’m sure Mercedes are working on all available tech for the future…we’ll have to see what they develop over the years!
Hi Nick great video, I was just wondering what you can do when the car fails to recognise a space you want to park in? A lot of times the car doesn't bong when you drive past a space when it is supposed to be scanning.
Thank you!
If that happens, you’ll have to drive past and scan it again 👍🏼
This is my complaint. This system fails to recognize a proper parking space 60% of the times I can safely engage it (not a busy street or lot).
Hey Wayne, if you don’t think something’s right, contact Mercedes and they’ll be able to check it out for you! 👍🏼
Hi Nick, nice video as always. but there's a joke, now i have a new gla and before i had the old model. The old model could parallel park but not L park. the new model can do L parking but not parallel parking. I can’t understand why? Is lt my mistake or missing feature for new model?
Hey Burak, this will be due to UN-R 79 Regulation that I mentioned at the end of the video
LOL, while I have this on my SUV, I never park near the plebs that would guarantee body damage, and thus, parking is never a challenge.
You are a Mercedes master
Haha no! Always learning stuff! 🤓🙏
Brilliantly explained ! Now to try! *Side note, wanting to update my maps.. Thoughts?
Thanks Glenn! Be sure to check out other videos on my channel, got loads of tutorials like map updates etc
th-cam.com/video/myp2zP--JTw/w-d-xo.html
I really like this syestem cause my Mercedes Gle350 2024 cause when it scans it it tells me which one than I pick and it does everything I don’t have to do anything except for the brake. W MERCEDES GLE350 2024
Thanks, that was a useful video.
No worries! Thanks for watching!
I have a new A250 and parallel park everyday but do it manually as the park assist just will not find the spot I park in. Very frustrating.
You probably drive to fast, first juse your blinker and dont go to fast
Weirdly Mercedes cars can scan up to 20mph which tbf I think is pretty fast! 💨
Good video, what MB doesn’t tell you is that it can only and only park between two cars. It cannot identify parking spots if no car has parked on the sides. Technically if there are two empty spots right beside each other it fails to find it or even park there. Also it cannot park into a garage.
Thanks Naim Naim! Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes this technology only uses ultrasound, so if there isn’t an object there, then it won’t work.
Thanks for the video. Does it work the same with manual gearbox? I have a manual and I haven't tested my park assist yet.
It sure does! The only difference is that you use all of the pedals and change gear 🤓
My 2017 CLA never failed in finding and parking. My 2021 CLA has yet found a single parallel parking spot during the years I’ve had it. Worthless
Thank you! Yes it’s the same thing
Quite clever actually, designed to help with accidentally pulling away in the wrong gear or if something is in the way or something.
I'm having a hard time coming up with any common reason to use this feature and pay the extra money for it. I guess if my hand/arm was incapacitated, yea. It's just a neat little very expensive car trick.
Maybe it only t t works when the steering wheel is on the correct side of the car and you are driving on the right side of the road.
Hi Nick
Just got my first Mercedes with minx and your channel is a saviour
When you get a chance could you cover radio functions in particular
Tuning
Prevent losing freq
Tune in radio what is this
Thanks Lee
Hey Lee!
This was a very informative video. I have one question. Does c-class and amg glc 43 4matic coupe have this feature?
Thank you! Usually yes but UN-R 79 regulations might not allow it so chat with your local Mercedes and they can let you know 🤓
I've tried using parking assist on my S class but I keep bottling it.🤦♂️
Thanks for the video Nick.
On my C class if I use park assist to parallel park when i get back in it will offer to drive out of the space for me.
It can do!
Hmmm, tried the new one in this video and didn’t have any issues. Have you spoken to Mercedes? They might be able to check it out for you 🤓
@npoleary My dealer here in new jersey, When I picked a car up a few months ago. They said the dealership's policy was not to demonstrate park assist due to collision issues and liability.
Oh really? That’s strange, I’ve definitely seen Mercedes demonstrate it to people before…how strange…
@@npoleary Yes it is odd. Thanks for the responses.
Nice Nick😊
You teach me everything so I can tell to my dad thanks nick if I don’t know something I will look your for it thanks you will be so tired
Haha thanks! Ah that’s awesome! Well if there’s any future videos that you’d like to see let me know!
Hey Nick,
Can memory park assist track a path towards a normal garage at home & drive forward through the door opening of the garage bay & then be able to reverse out again when leaving? You may have covered this already but I can’t find it.
Cheers Steve
No sadly not covered that specifically in a garage, I mean technically it could possibly work. I would suggest to probably try it but do the same as I did and monitor the car and use the brake pedal.
It's kind of cool, even if I never tried the feature on mine because I don't trust the automated stuff. So let's just say I will be the last one to try one of those self drive on the road, this is not my idea of driving.
Hi, is there any website I can put the Vin number of a mercedes car and know the full specs and options of this car?
www.lastvin.com
Can do it but not sure what age they cover, it doesn’t show new cars annoyingly
I was driving 13 years a VW Tiguan, even with trailer, and that was working perfect. Now my new GLA250e is not working at all. 1 out of 100 times it finds a spot but parking is not going wel. So up to now: 100% fails!
My C118 with Park Assist can fully park by it self. You don’t need to use the brakes… just be ready to brake
Used few times to impress my friends ,but its so slow I can park much faster )
Could UN-R-79 be the reason why my A250e's parking assist cannot pick up parallel parking spots? the parking assist only seems to pick up 90 degree (side by side) parking spaces
Yes, I believe this is correct. I too wasn't sure why my CLA wasn't detecting parallel parking spots and after reading into it apparently all car sold in the EU & UK have this feature restricted.
Yes that’s why. UN-R 79 does affect some cars in this way.
yes it is... my 2011 A250e does this kind of parking but newer ones do not
I have it, but it works horrible... It has never works properly.
I had no problem with my 69 plate GLA, but so far have not managed to get it working on my 72 plate GLC!
Exactly the same situation 🤷🏻♀️
It’ll be due to UN-R 79 regulations. I mentioned at the end of the video, in the description and the comments section all with the same message 👍🏼
Yes, thanks!
For me it’s fine, I almost never used Parking Assist in my GLA (rear camera and sensors front and rear) now in GLC with sensors and cameras 360° it’s even easier to park 🚗
Can the 2024 Mercedes auto reverse park into your home garage?
My parents have a 2019 B220
I just showed th how the automated park assist works.
Or else we would have ended up in that ditch :D haha :D
But yeah that was my thought too, that it can probably sense things which are there but won't detect things which are not there.
I also found on a 2019 Ford Focus park assist that it is sometimes not detecting small poles or fences if they are just a few cm wide.
Thanks again.
Amazing 👏
Thank you!
glc200 2021 malaysia doesnt have this functionality.
Ours only wants to park forwards into a bay, it won't parallel park. Any ideas?
@Sally Wright I have exactly the same problem with my 6 months old GLB . It looks like it’s not me who doesn’t know how to use it , it’s more of a common problem with Mercedes.
Same for me too
Parallel parking has been restricted on new cars due to EU reg UN R79. I believe it been like that si ce 2019 or so. I really like Nick's channel but don't understand how he omitted this key detail.
Duh, I should have watched the video until the end. Nick does in fact mention the regulation that results in some models having the parallel parking assist feature deleted.
Hey guys, if you watch all the way to the end I talk about this with a specific link to another video)
There’s a link in the description, link in the comments section and link at the end of the video.
Sadly on most modern cars (currently) won’t do parallel parking just like the bit at the end of the video I mentioned with UN-R 79 regulations
@@npoleary Oooh I didn't know that Nick I wont try it in mine then lol.
Hope one day they do have this function, cos I hate trying to park on a busy road between two cars, I give up and try and find a huge space hehe. Thanks for getting back to me Nick.
No worries 🤓
Hi Nick , thanks so much for your very helpful videos. I have a 2022 GLE 350DE which has parking assist activated by pushing the button . I have tried to find parking by using it but it fails most of the time . There is space between cars and it does not recognise the space or shows it as disabled grey box. Not sure what is wrong ?
Just double check with local Mercedes and they can let you know for sure.
It could have been affected by UN-R 79 regulations
*go into
Hey Dymps, you can do! Quite often the larger Mercedes dealerships have Star Experts or Product Experts that can help! (This is for the UK, not sure what it’s like elsewhere in the world)
@@npoleary thank you, I'm in Ireland, I'll give my local one a go ;-) cheers. great content by the way!
Thankyou 👍👍👍👍❤️
Ah just drive past further and it should come up🤓
However I will add that it does depend on the year of car. If it’s around 2020 to 2022 there is the possibility that it doesn’t have parallel parking due to United Nations Regulations.
My Cupar born £26k has this, it’s fully automated no need to change gear.
Nice! 👍🏼
But my question…how often do you use it? I’m not sure I’ve used mine that often 😅
@@npoleary every day. Love it. Best feature. Plus the look I get when using it
Nick I have a 2020 C 300e when we bought the car it had park assist but it was then disabled. Does this now mean it will have been enabled.
I agree. It’s slow. It’s a great feature but when you are in a busy lot or street people are ready to run you off the road if you go that slow
Sorry to disagree with you Nick (first time): I find the system is unusable in a supermarket or any kind of normally busy car park.
Agree. It doesn't work work well at all. I have 2021 a class. Never use it for all the reasons listed here
same on the 2020 cla i just find it much easiet to park it on my own
How is it at parallel parking? Cheers
Yeah pretty good! 😊
Same process as the car scans the length of the bay as you drive past 👍🏼
I don’t believe the tech is that clever
Mercedes use ultrasound for parking assist tech so it does not utilise cameras.
The memory park assist found on only a couple of models might do it but if any of the pre recorded scene changed, you’d need to take over and re-record the whole thing.
Thank you for reply. Its 5 days that I live in the car now...my wife is getting worried. 😂
Does MBUX have a car wash mode? Thanks again
Depends on the model, some do and some don’t
I’ve seen it before and it’s quite a recent thing
If it’s available on the car it’ll be under Settings and then Quick Access
Why would you do automatic parking,,, when u are legend at manual parking 🔥👍
Haha oh I don’t know about that 😅
Make sure you tune in to this Friday’s video
You will WANT to see it 🤫 I’m sure! 👍🏼
Hi, I know nothing about cars. Do u know Mercedes A180 can also do this?
Yeah! But check on the exact car you’re looking at. It wasn’t allowed for a short while a few years ago so wasn’t installed on some cars.
My daily is an A180 and it exists on there 👍🏼
Hi Nick, in EQB do we need to use brake to control the speed? or does not need it at all? thanks
Always still use the brake pedal, you must be in control of the car at all times
The car can brake for you, but you should remain in control of it just in case 👍🏼
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the videos!
Ah hopefully the finance manager will look after you! 🤓
Hi Nick not sure anyone has asked this question but does park assist only work on horizontal, what if you want to park on an incline has it got limitations with gradients?
Not sure on the exact gradient, there was a slight gradient on the one in my park assist video.
I’m sure it would say on the screen if it couldn’t do it 🤓
Hello Nick,
System will only find the space between 2 cars ? Or it does not matter? Because in my car it finds parking space only between 2 cars
Please let me know
Sandeep H
Hey Sandeep, yeah it looks like it uses ultrasound from the parking sensors. It’s not using any cameras, so ultrasound can only detect objects like parked cars
I tried park assist but had to stop as it gave me anxiety :)
Same here. Tried it once and it got so close to a pillar I took over immediately and that was my only attempt in almost 2.5 years.
@@npoleary Cheers
@yusukekamui591 no worries!
Does a 2024 EQA with AMG advance plus package have this?
Really sorry you’ll have to check with Mercedes staff at a dealer or on their website. Specs and packages vary massively round the world, I’ve not heard or seen of the AMG Advance Plus Package in the UK unless it’s something very new
@@npoleary I just checked and I have the function! Awesome can't wait to try it
Would me GLC 21 plate have it? i press the button but it fails to act with any sensors.
Sadly not all cars have park assist, I made an open video about it here: th-cam.com/video/CtK2ZwMsqK8/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Nick, Beaconsfield have confirmed it has PARKTRONIC but not active assist. @@npoleary
@@npoleary Yup, I have driven along a whole like of cars with several spots open. No joy.
What year car do you have? I heard some models only have bay parking, might be worth checking with a Mercedes dealer 👍🏼
@@npoleary I have a 2022 GLC 300.
Hmm, I know there was some parking regulations called UN-R 79 that came out in 2020 so it could be something to do with that.
Might be worth getting in touch with them 👍🏼
