Nick, I can confirm the active braking does work, it saved my life on the M6 last November coming back from Scotland, I was tired and had cruse control on at 70mph and yes I got complacent and nodded off how long for I have no idea, but all i rember is that the car rapid bleeping which woke me foot on the brake but the car was like that's not enough took over and brought my C Class to a stop behind a stationary artic lorry. so for me the brand Mercedes-Benz is everything to me.... thank you for the video i learnt something new also and I thought I knew my car.... x
It came on with me as well, understandably but unnecessarily: I approached a T junction on a bend to turn left, there was a car in front turning right, my MB thought I was going into the right turning car and the active breaking assist slowed me rapidly but as I steered to the left of the car in front, my MB released the brakes. It was a wonderful moment, perfectly safe but informed me that the systems really work.
Only if you have a distance button on the steering wheel, it’ll look a bit like this: moba.i.mercedes-benz.com/baix/cars/222.0_comand_2017/en_GB/page/ID_c212e8d62a45abd4354ae36578c644e8-1b2bdbb4beb1df13354ae3657040a481-en-GB.html# Hope the link works, it’s from Google of the image of the buttons. It’ll be No 2 in the pic.
Totally agree! I was in a similar situation where an old lady cut right in front of me going at 50 MPH. She must have been driving at 25 MPH. The driver assistance system took over control from me and brought my Mercedes to a complete stop. My SUV shook like a deck of cards but everyone on board was fine. The following day I took the vehicle in for check up and everything was ok.
Hi Nick, re active brake assist. Must admit I was a little bit sceptical, so decided to try it out without risk to life or limb or more importantly to my Merc. I devised a little test. I went to a couple of local supermarkets and scrounged cardboard boxes. I then assembled a cardboard box wall in the road outside my house, fortunately I live in a small cul de sac, so little inconvenience was caused. By this time several neighbours wondering what I was up to where put in the picture. I tested up to 28mph (couldn't really go much faster because it's a small cul de sac) . Brake assist worked brilliantly, neighbours really impressed so much so that two with BMW's and one with a Range Rover tested theirs with positive results. Unfortunately a Nissan wiped the wall out and ended Day 1 of testing. Hope this helps.
Haha that’s brilliant! I would love to try something out like that, I have a few ideas for a future video in an entertaining way! I should add that it does take a few seconds of driving for the car to calibrate its surroundings. I remember watching another manufacturer test this out with an exec or a CEO in front of news and media….let’s just say it didn’t go very well 😅 But yes it’s a brilliant system!
Active braking definitely works on my 2020 B class. Had a couple of occasions reversing out of my drive and it slammed on the brakes even though I was about 2m from the road and doing about 1mph. It just saw cars on the road and slams the brakes on. Now I make sure to slowly stop right on the edge of my drive and it’s fine. As for the driving package I couldn’t live without it on the motorway, just adds that bit of reassurance to driving. And the stop start in traffic is a blessing, don’t have to touch the brake pedal. Great for the m25 jams.
Great video Nick. You missed one feature. When in active cruise control on suburban streets and with navigation active, when approaching the planned left or right suburban street that the nav wants you to take, if you indicate the car will slow sufficiently for you to take that turn, and then re-accelerate once on the other side. Another method to ensure you turn at the correct street. Australian spec eqe.
@@npoleary Im sorry if you mentioned this and I missed it, but I noticed you said u have to steer, but in my experience, activating dynamic cruise control makes you able to not touch anything at all, The brakes and gas are autonomous like you said, but also ur wheel, it keeps you dead-centre of the lane, and u just have to hold the wheel as a precaution in case something happens, but u dont have to keep steering, it auto steers for you (activating indication left or right will make the car change lane while keeping dynamic cruise control)
Hey Kanoo. 🤓 Yes Active Steering Assist does "steer for you" but I want to make it fundamentally clear to all that these are aids. Each car manufacturer will implement their own version of tech and it'll be slightly different to the next one, where they have each have different limitations. I would hate for someone to tell me that they've crashed a car because they thought it was autonomous when it very clearly is not.
I have most of these features on my Mercedes and I can confirm that they all work perfectly, namely the safety features like the emergency auto break and lane assist, it’s really good. The blind spot assist is such an underrated feature, it’s my favorite and one of the most useful features that you can get, I’d even say that it should be mandatory on every new car by the regulations. Great job.
A lot of new cars do have blind spot assist now which is good! Thanks for sharing! Glad to hear you find them useful too! I’d love all of these on my car!
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Well as long as Mercedes Press Office continue to allow me to film in their cars! My local dealer helps too! Just depends on what model and the topic I might need to film 🙏
Good video and well explained! I had a proper driver assist experience today in a 280 mile drive on my 2024 GLC 300. Very much impressed with its capabilities! While I was attentive, the driver assist practically drove the car itself through the highway making turns and managing speed itself. One feature to note is that the car will also automatically change lanes to choose the right lane to keep up the speed. It will tell you visually and with a beep that it’s about to make a lane change. But while doing so it detects traffic behind and only change lane when it’s clear ! It did this throughout and I remained in a cautious supervisory mode and let the car do the job ! Simply Awesome !
Thank you! That’s exactly my point, I don’t want people thinking it can do something when it can’t. That’s what causes accidents! That aside, this system does a lot! And it’s awesome!
Finally got my benz its a older model 2017 e class but low miles at only 33k with very well kept interior and it did at least come with the parking assist tech which is fun to use. Thanks for all of the tips so many videos helped even for an older model. Keep the videos coming nick. 👍
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Fun fact this video project was the largest to date! 3 GoPros on one car 4 GoPros again on another Audio for me Total project was over 300GB in size in the end 😂 I also shortened it as the original was over 30 mins 🙃
Wow! Truly appreciated by many I am sure. It must take you hours and hours to research, arrange a car, second follow-car and driver, get to site, film and refilm, edit and then render and upload. I saw the video was 25 minutes and I thought "Great! Let's go!" 😊😊😊
I purchased a USA-spec 2020 GLC 300 4Matic Coupe (AMG Line) in Nov2023 with < 11K miles on the clock. Having the DA, Parking Asst & Multimedia Pkg were required in my purchase decision. Having just turned 60 years old, I wanted the DA particularly as a driving nanny. It works wonderfully! I've just completed a 3,500+ mile trip from Chicago, IL to Phoenix, AZ and back. They worked well for me & made me a better (safer) driver than without them. Despite my wife's fear of them (she'd exhort me to "Drive the car yourself!"), I was impressed with how well the DA tools/features worked to aid me with the long drive. It's a shame she's (perhaps willfully) confused driver's *Assistance* aids with autonomous vehicles (such as the Waymo Jaguar taxis driving all over Phoenix).
Thank you so much Nick, I picked up my new beautiful GLC300 4matic suv with everything in it last weekend. Your videos have been so helpful with setting up and understanding how every thing works. ☺
Thank you for the update on DA. As usual very comprehensive. Both my Mercedes have DA2 which I love. Also tested the Active Emergency Stop, and it works very well. My dealer just sent me pics of the first CLE Coupe in our city. I am going to head down to check it out. Then he said that our 24 E450 is complete. Just waiting on a boat assignment. So exciting.
Best explanation of MB Driver assistance package ever! Been to 3 dealers and none of them could tell me whether adaptive cruise exists on car and what to do to engage it! Well done on this video.
Awh thank you! Well it’s thanks to Mercedes UK for providing the car. I sadly don’t have this on my car so couldn’t have made this video without them 🙏 Thanks to my dad for being the other car following me around to get an extra camera angle! 😊
I pick up my new GLE on Friday, so I’ve been watching a lot of your content which are really well presented and very helpful. Thank you for taking so much time to produce so much excellent content.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Ooo very nice! I did love the GLE, did you see that one I did a few weeks ago? 🙏 This one took a long time to produce and involved a lot of camera angles!
@@npoleary I had watched it, but just watched again as it’s a very helpful reminder of the various features. You do a really good job with your videos. Very professional 👍
I would definitely need a good driving assistant in any car with the steering wheel on the wrong side. 😉 On a more serious note, most of the things ( that you explain excellently btw) my 8 years old BMW can do too. It won’t automatically adjust the driving speed to the speed limit but instead it wants you to confirm it. I’d prefer it would do that automatically (especially when the speed limit is reduced) but it’s the choice BMW has made. The active cruise control also doesn’t adapt to the driving mode you’re in. It can do automatic lane changes and it will keep an eye on you etc. Final note: BMW will warn you if you change lane without using the indicator by means of vibrations through the steering wheel. I thinks that’s more pleasant and effective than beeps or lights.
Hey Nick - Congrats on the 100k subscribers! Love the MB vids especially the detailed tech explanations on the various systems. I think many people purchase cars like this & never realise what their cars are actually capable of Cheers m8
Awh thank you! Filming quite literally did take all day! Over 200 miles covered, over 300GB of footage, two separate cars with a min of 3 GoPros each, (filmed separately). And then there was the edit 😅 that took a while!
Thank you for this update Nick. For me it is perfectly timed as I am picking up my car tomorrow, not an S class though! Looking forward to trying all the features, minus the crash related ones of course. I join the other subscribers in congratulating you on the quality of your videos and appreciate the hard work you put into them.
Hi Nick, I'm getting the latest version of the EQA 250+ AMG Line Premium Plus (so doubleplusgood as George Orwell might have put it!). Comfort and safety are paramount to me hence the high spec, it does also mean I shan't be wondering later on if I should have gone for some option. This is my first electric car loaded with all these assistance and safety features so lots to discover, your channel has helped a lot with preparation so much appreciated. I found it when searching for information on the EQA.@@npoleary
Does it have stop and go? And if yes does it come to a complete stop and accelarate itself ? And if so for how many seconds? ( all this is related to active cruise)
I've had Distronic on my last two MB cars (2014 CLS550 & 2021 E63S AMG) and both vehicles had nearly all of these features. At the moment, I have a 2024 S580 on order and can't wait for delivery in late May.
Very good and useful video. Can I just add that the DAP can be used in traffic and the car would follow the front car, including start stop. The evasive manoeuvring also works as per my experience of skidding on a wet road plus the seat belt tensioner pulling me to the seat. Question for you, Mercedes are fitting the Driver assistant pack 2 or plus, how long does it take before the "hand's on steering wheel" sign comes on (revision one is 15 seconds)? I would like to find out the variation between the first and second revision. Dealers don't seem to know much about the technical side of the DAP system other than what is advertised on paper.
Thank you! Yes it can work in that situation too although I wouldn’t recommend a built up area as there could be bikes and/or pedestrians that can move into the vehicle’s path very quickly. As long as the driver is paying full attention then it’ll be fine. When I tried it, it was approx 10-15 seconds although there is no set time. This sounds weird but it’s because it can vary. For example the car I had had face recognition which also tracks the pupils in your eyes so it depends “how distracted” the driver is. This is what the manual states: The driver is required to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times to ensure that they can intervene at any time to correct the course of the vehicle and keep it in lane. The driver must expect a change from active to passive mode or vice versa at any time.
Loved the detailed description of the assistances. I just found out my new 2024 C300 is on the ship on its way to Nova Scotia, Canada. Once it gets unloaded, it'll start its final journey to Ontario. It was supposed to arrive at the dealership around February 22nd. I have it fully loaded and with all the assistances. I was wondering how they would differ from the ones on my 2019 A6 Technik. You gave me the answer. Thank you Nick 😁
Brilliant video - thanks Nick. I have one pet hate - the active brake assist, which I believe to be very dangerous. It’s gone off 3 times recently for no reason. Luckily no one went in the back of me. I now switch it off at the start of every journey. You should not be driving if you are tired. It encourages bad driving. I want to drive the car, I don’t want the car to drive me.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes there are many safety systems on cars these days. Have you spoken to someone who works at Mercedes about that? I’ve not experienced it going off on any car I’ve reviewed on Mercedes.
Great coverage of that specific package on the 2024 S Class 580E. These days it seems like a new car is actually about twenty cars in one, the engine, drive train and all mechanics first, then the interiors, and ... the computer! Getting a feel for the driving capabilities and handling - like an "ordinary" car - is pretty easy, but learning to use the computer is not so simple. And the manuals are not the easiest to follow. Looking to buy a Mercedes, it's very helpful to know which "package" does what. I'm very happy that Mercedes puts the cruise control on the steering wheel where it's right at the driver's fingertips.
I thought the active blind spot assist was in another package. I would want that specific feature. I wasn't aware it was part of the the driving assistance package. After watching some videos about driving on the autobahn, I'm wondering that German cars do not have a warning that a Ferrari is approaching from behind at 300 kph. I guess it's just too far back down the road to look, to be accurate, but if you're doing 70 mph and a Continental (or whatever) is approaching at 140 mph ....
Ah thanks for sharing! And glad you enjoyed the video! Blind spot assist is standard on a lot of models out there now, I have it on my car too! 🤓 sadly no driving assistance package though! Yeah not sure on the approach from behind, I would imagine if the car knew a crash was going to happen then it would prep the car though
@@npoleary ---- I was skeptical of driver assist packages until I rode in one. The same skepticism for the remote operation via key fob, until I saw one used. I'm older than you, so these new things are not as new to you.
The availability of most of these features in my b class was the reason I purchased it - so much better than my previous VW Golf, cannot imagine going to another brand anymore😍
HI Nick and thank you so much for the very detailed video. One question: in the new C43 (W206) I am seeing online some cars that have the “car distance button” on the steering wheel which would indicate they are equipped with a Driving Assistance Package. However, when I contacted the Mercedes dealers, they are saying to me that the cars, do NOT come with driving assistance and you cannot activate it. Is this true that MB has this preinstalled from the factory but they don’t offer this feature?
Thank you! I’ve heard that some models come through now with a button that lets you add one element of the driving assistance package for either a monthly price or yearly. One huge point with this specifically is that it’s a fraction of the cost of the driving assistance package I plan to make a video on that soon
Yeah that’s it, the buttons shown at the start of the video. If you’ve already pressed those buttons, you could just press SET and it’ll start straight away 🙏
I was driving my 2019 C300 home from purchasing it. Suddenly, my car started to veer to the right. I scared the crap out of me. What startled me more was when a car flew past a quarter of the way into my lane. The car had sensed it coming and pulled out of the way. The part that bothered me was that if it notified me it was doing it, I didn’t recognize it. I hope they’ve done something about that. I don’t know maybe there isn’t time…
Could either have been Active Blind Spot Assist or Steering Assist. There may possibly have been a notification on the screen for a brief moment although I’m sure you probably weren’t looking down when that happened though
Hi Nick, is there an option to set how aggressive the acceleration is for ACC? For example, I'm set on 130 km/h, I approach a truck that is overtaking another truck with 90 km/h. The car slows and keeps the distance, but as soon as the truck changes lanes, my car will accelerate too aggressive back to 130. It downshifts a gear or two in the process and it feels like it gives at least 50% throttle. I would like to tone it down a bit, because if I need faster acceleration I can always use the pedal. The sudden acceleration sometimes scares the passengers which are not paying attention on the road. This happens in comfort mode which, in my opinion, should be smoother. GLC 300 (2020). Love your videos.
Ah thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Well I did note that you could adjust some parameters in settings of this package on this car. I would imagine it’s because it’s on the latest multimedia system but sadly I don’t recall there being any adjustment on systems some time ago though when I filmed and checked out the last one.
Hi Nick, short remark to what you've said at around 15:16 min into the video. There is a Level 3 system available in some models such as S-Class ans EQS. It only works on pre-defined motorways under certain conditions. It allows you to for example use your phone while the car is driving for you (that is actually also allowed in countries where this Level 3 system is certified). The time you have to take control back is much longer compared to a Level 2 system, What you've seen about the parking garages is actually a Level 4 system, which doesn't require a human in the car. But I believe there's less then a handful of parking garages in the world equipped with the necessary hardware for this particular system.
An awesome thanks for sharing! Yes all of this will be very very new, I see brands like Mercedes announcing tech like this but never seen it in action because of the regulations and laws in the UK. Hopefully it’ll change in the future or I can travel somewhere to check it out.
Worked for an OEM on these features (there all from certain other German parts manufacturers). The steering looks for the torque you input to the steering not that you are actually touching the steering to detect if you are holding the steering. (There are some dodges to fool the system). Have tested the other things on a test track with inflatable objects and datalogging systems.
Ah awesome! Having tested various years of Mercedes systems they used to be like this with the torque you input, but modern ones actually have touch sensors in the steering wheel. Here’s an extract from the manual: share.icloud.com/photos/0f9en2dzRFNhZCSdqUhIhn1JA It can even be an issue if you wear gloves apparently which I didn’t realise till after making this video.
Great video Nick as always. I’m waiting on my new car arriving. On vehicles where you don’t purchase when ordering does Pre-installation for DISTRONIC mean I can buy through Mercedes Me?
Thank you! 🙏 I’ve heard about this thing on Mercedes me and I want to check it out see what the difference is. So it’s on my “to research and film list!”
Thx for a nice video. What it also does is to shake the driver seatbelt to warn you against a collision. I have testet it several times when going a little close to parked cars etc. 😊
I absolutely love having the driving assistance package, it's brilliant! One thing you missed off the route based speed adaption is tolls. It will also slow you down ahead of a toll. I discovered this on a drive to Wales a few years back
@npoleary it wasn't much to be fair, I think it drops down to 65mph, same as if you're approaching a tail back, but it does say "toll ahead." You gotta love Mercedes, they think of everything!
While using Distronic plus in a S580 (2024) my car slows down as i approach a very slow car in front of me. Question I have is how does the car behind me know that I am slowing down if my car brakes are not applied and brake light do not come on? Is it not dangerous? Hope someone has a answer. Thank you.
So in Mercedes if ANY system slows you down more than engine braking so: - Using the Limiter (and it slows you down) - Using DISTRONIC (slowing down again) - Brake Recuperation for hybrids and EV’s - Emergency Braking systems You will always have brake lights come on, brake lights are linked to the car slowing down more than normal, not just the pedal 🤓 There’s probably more examples but if it’s anything more than normal braking, the lights come on. Hope that helps!
I have a C350e, before purchase I was given a spec sheet which lists the features on each trim level. By the time you get down to C50e, it shows Driving Assistance Package included. Next to that is a string of numbers or number/letters. Is there any way of finding out what those numbers mean ?
I guess chatting with a dealer they might be able to decide what it means. I’m taking a guess that the codes probably refer to the kit of driving assistance package available for that type of car / age of car / and spec for region. Just a thought!
Thanks again Nick. I have a 2023 EQA350. Can you please link me to how to enable the Traffic Sign Assist and the Active Speed limit Assist. I think you did a video on enabling these via the steering wheel controls last year.
No worries! Well as far as I’ve on Mercedes cars, if a car has it then it’s enabled by default. But it’ll usually be located on the centre middle screen (wording used here varies a little) But look for: HOME SETTINGS ASSISTANCE TRAFFIC SIGN ASSIST or SPEED LIMIT ASSIST
Driving assistance in Cyprus for Gla35 is €2500 I guess it's too much for me ....already the price with the extras comes up to €65.5K 🤒I have only blind spot included on premium pack and also brake assistance and lane assistance it's included. I add extra the active distance assist distronic for €500 . Explanation was excellent as always 👌 thanks
@@npoleary Well, I think it is going to be Polar White, counter-intuitively they always look clean! It is taking so long to come that, to be frank, I’d take any colour at the moment, but I (we) are excited at the prospect, albeit it has taken so long upgrades have meant the loss of the centre touch pad. Ah well, perhaps the AMG-line Premium will have “heads-up” display added. Appreciate your super videos, I will know a great deal about the features before I get it. Have you reviewed the 350 4Matic at all?
Yeah but if you’re not getting the touch pad that means you’re having the facelift! So new model with new tech and features on the multimedia system 🤓 that’s worth it! Been on holiday for the past couple of weeks in the USA but I had filmed something with Mercedes before I left. Been editing it while I’ve been away. It’s published for members of my channel but it’ll be publicly available soon! 🤓👍🏼
Can vouch for the performance and usefulness of that emergency braking system. Was driving around Frankfurt, crossing a seemingly clear, pedestrian crossing. A punk on an e-scooter crossed, at speed as I was entering the crossing. I had not seen him at all when the car snatched the brakes on and just about stood on its nose. Car saved that kid's life. He probably would have been mashed. This was a reminder of how dangerous crossings are. even at 25kph. The scooter was going almost 20kph. It's just not possible to see that, even as you set off from standstill. Crosswalks should be on foot, at walking pace. anything else is going to get someone mashed. Also, the Germans are super afraid of scooters and bicycles as their riders seem to not give way to cars at all. Riding out from footpaths, across streets without looking. On another test drive, of an EV, the supervisor was basically out the window, every time we did a short turn (right turn, europe), to make sure there were no small wheels, coming to get us!! He had been broadsided by a cyclist on another occasion. These safety packages, when used respectfully, are really saving lives and money.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Ah you’ll have to check the car or ask Mercedes for that one. Specs vary and sadly I wouldn’t know specification of a car would have on here. You can check on the multimedia system though, what multimedia system do you have in the car. Have you got a wheel to control the screen? Or is there a touchpad? And also is the screen a touchscreen? I can let you know where to look 🤓
Nick, just got a 2020 UK spec CLA shooting brake with premium plus 2 pack. Previous user turned lots of things off. Does the centre info pad and buttons have background lighting . Same for the memory seat pad on doors, does that have lighting. How do I turn it on ?
Oh nice! I don’t recall the touchpad having lights or the memory seats but sadly not been in a Mercedes at night for quite a while (one that has memory seats anyway). I don’t recall there being a setting for lights like that, I’m sure you can dim selected lights up and down using the scroller wheel next to the dipped beam light switch.
Morrisons, of course, there are other delivery options also for your daily shop take it easy aka Mr O'L! have a nice week end. and another nice one see you next week
On my new e-class estate I find I can touch the steering wheel anywhere and it’s happy in cruise/ distronic / “autonomous “ mode. I’ve held with one hand at 12 o’clock and 5 and 7 o’clock without warnings coming up. Not that I recommend driving like that of course. But I suspect the sensors are now all around the steering wheel.
I’ve heard some rumours that some new models allow you to do this! Annoying as I bought my car late last year 😅 Tis the way! There’s a button like a distance button on the steering wheel apparently it can do it. And you can also view this in the Mercedes me store
First 3 things are part of the "Predictive (adaptive) cruise control" or similary named system for other brands for years. 4th thing is the same as the 6th thing.
Yeah that’s right! I covered that on my comparison video between the previous generation MBUX and the newer one. I believe they just wanted to simplify it for the end user.
You’ll have to check with a dealer for specs that are available to order 🤓 It can vary round the world… When I reviewed the S-Class sometime ago it didn’t then but not sure if it’s changed since then.
Online on the configurator doesn't say nothing about them and chauffeur package and without them is not worthing. Better you buy an E class and is the same thing. Thanks for reply 🤝@npoleary
I would like to know when the car is holding line assist and the sign to take over the steering wheel appears, can i only touch the steering wheel from below or do you have to grip the steering wheel correctly as it is held correctly
Perhaps you can confirm if the 2024 Mercedes fixes an Active Lane Keeping "problem" I have with my 2020 US spec S-450. Specifically, my car cannot detect hands on wheel unless I physically jiggle the wheel at regular intervals to avoid the hands-off warning. Having to constantly jiggle the wheel even if I have hands on the wheel is quite annoying. Did Mercedes come up with a better hand detection scheme for 2024?
The steering wheel is different now, I believe it uses sensors on the 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock position. I believe it was something to do with a United Nations Regulation (UN R-79) that changed where and how these sensors needed to be. A simple touch or holding the wheel should be enough now 🤓
@@npoleary Thanks, I may try a test drive of the updated S-class. The capacitive touch buttons may be a deal killer though. I really like the switchgear on my current car.
Hi. I own GLC 200 in India. Past few days I am not getting alerts on geofence for entry and exit of vehicle. I am getting this message “The position display has been deactivated in the vehicle. Please activate this function to view your vehicle on the position display again.” ? I spoke to the dealer. They said they will check with Mercedes and revert. What could be the reason ?
Ah that would happen if the position location is turned off in the car. Not sure if it’s the same elsewhere round the world but if I remember it’s under HOME SETTINGS SYSTEM WIFI & INTERNET Then look for something along the lines of vehicle location. Just remember this can be switched off by the driver!
Ah I believe they shared it between local dealers. They messaged me to say it was in on a day so I came in to film it. Message them and they’ll get it there for you if it’s not already! 👍🏼
This link here: www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/ebrochure-download.html And I don’t always, but black is just easier. Don’t have to think about it much 😅
The active braking has helped me so many times, especially when someone has come out on me, great video Nick thanks for sharing ps how many GoPro's do you have?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I have 4 in my set up currently but they were used on 2 separate cars so I was editing 8 camera angles from the camera car and my car (the car I was using) 😅
hey Nick, thank you again for a fascinating and extremely informative video. I would feel 100% secure with you driving me anywhere …….even in Australia.
I optioned the driving assistance pack on my 2018 E class (which I still have) and this is basically the same system, so hasn't changed much in 6 years. It all does work well most of the time, but has it's limitations. It doesn't work well on the motorway in heavy, slow moving traffic as it's a bit slow to react to constant speed changes. Also the steering assist doesn't work in rain, although the speed distance feature works fine. Lane keeping assist is a bit of an annoyance. It works by following the lines on the road. So if you are on a motorway, in roadworks for e.g. and you pass over a bit of road with a white line in the wrong place it will try to follow it and veer you into another lane or panic break. That can be a bit unnerving! It will also overreact and panic on A and B roads and suddenly try and steer the car in the wrong direction, particularly if you cut corners. I just keep that function switched off most of the time. A great safety feature of the system is the blind spot alert. It has saved me a few times from changing lanes if I've not been concentrating and you really can't miss the alarm warning and tug on the steering wheel. Again, it has it's limitations and doesn't always pick up vehicles at an angle, for e.g. if you are entering a motorway from the slip road. Something not mentioned here, that also comes with the package, is sensors that warn you (again quite loudly!) if you try to pull out of a blind junction and there is a car coming. It works also at the rear of the car if you are reversing out of a parking space and there is a car coming, or a pedestrian walking past that isn't picked up in the reversing camera. Most cars don't have this available on the rear of the car. Overall I'm very pleased I optioned it. It cost me £1600 at the time and has probably saved me from a serious accident a few times, and soothed many a long journey, so money well spent. Unfortunately most people never option this system (even on the S class, where unbelievably it's not standard) so finding a second hand car with this feature is virtually impossible, which is why I've kept my car for so long!
Ah thanks for sharing! Believe it or not, on S-Class now it's standard 🤓 (in the UK anyway) But yes those systems are amazing, wish I had them on my own daily car! 🤓
Hey Nick, just a thought. With the various MB models having different levels of technology installed are you able to do a table or s/sheet indicating which models the various technologies have trickled down to? i.e. I’m guessing that the S Class you tested has the full driving assistance package, but when you go down through the range to the E Class, C Class, CLE, etc are you also able to spec the full package on these models or is it restricted to certain parts of each of the tech packages that you explain? Cheers Steve
Hey thanks Steve! Sadly that’ll be a battle that I’ll never win 😅 I’ve thought on the side of a few extra things I could do just like this actually. The only issue is that specs vary so much :( If one was produced like that, it could change throughout the year of Mercedes model changes and spec adjustments and as Mercedes have 30+ different models, I sadly don’t have access to all of them at the same time to even make something like that. Plus it’ll be different in every country round the world too :(
Best thing to do is have a look at the brochures and the Driving Assistance Package page (usually halfway through) will tell you what works on that car. New Cars: www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/ebrochure-download.html Archived Brochures: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qrnfhW6dkIpv0X0yXTUHgur3LEFrW2mU?usp=share_link
Thank Nick - I didn’t think there was so much variation. It must be a nightmare for the department that takes orders from different countries around the world to make sure they get individual cars spec’d correctly & according to the regulations in each country 🫣
Yeah it must be! I wish that I could be more specific on my channel but believe it or not some Mercedes out there (in some other countries) still don’t even have Sat nav or Bluetooth…it’s crazy how much it varies. So apologies I kind of have to keep it generalised to appeal to as many as possible 👍🏼 But I’ll try my best! 😅
On a previous car i had adaptive cruise control. This would actually slow you down and bring the car to a stop at traffic lights etc where a car was stopped. Does the Mercedes work this way. And thank you for this video.
You’ll have to check the car! Really sorry I wouldn’t know individual specs, Mercedes of course have eBrochures, their configurators or chat to a dealer and they can help too! I’m sure it would but you’ll have to check with Mercedes themselves.
Every Mercedes, even going back to 2000, have tech in them that make the car seem like it is alive. If the blinker or headlight goes out, it will tell you. If the coolant is low, it will tell you. If the hood or bonnet is not firmly closed, it will tell you. If the brakes are too low, it will tell you. It will tell you not to forget your car keys. It will tell you to turn your lights on when it is dark. It will tell you when to change your brakes. It will tell you to step on the brakes when the car is not in park. There is so much tech in every Merc, even in the smallest ones.
@@npoleary sometimes, you do not even know the tech is there in your car all along and then after many years, it shows up. It can be startling. This is why i view every Mercedes as living things.
Great video Nick, I’ve only recently started using the full driving assistance pack on my GLB 35, I drove halfway around the M25 without using the pedals at all. It got a bit scary when the car thought it had seen an 80mph sign near the dartford river crossing and started to accelerate! I think it may have been from a 80kph sign on the back of a foreign lorry!
Hello Nick. Thanks for the informative video, I recently picked up my A class premium plus package which I believe should have the drivers assistance package (it has blind spot assist, and it has distance control buttons on the steering wheel) however I couldn’t figure out how to activate active steering assist, i tried to dig into the multimedia system but not sure. Does it mean I don’t have the full package?
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoyed it! So I purchased my car last year from my local dealer and it seems that since I’ve bought my car Mercedes have almost started to fit like a “mini driving assistance package” on some models of car now available to purchase after you take delivery. You’ll have to check with them to be sure but I’d love to do some research on it. The Driving Assistance Package is always around £1,700 to over £2,000 from what I’ve seen but on some models now you can pay afterwards to get the main feature of that package for a whole lot less. I’ve seen it here on the the Mercedes me store: shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/pdp/active-distance-assist-distronic/553 I wish I had this on my car but it’s not compatible but that’s so cool that you can get the main feature for a whole lot less cost. If you do subscribe to it, you’ll have to let me know how you get on!
@@npoleary Hello Nick! Thanks for the clarification. I did subscribe to the Active Distance assist DISTRONIC through the mercedes me store as an annual subscription. All it provides is Adaptive Cruise Control, unfortunately active steering is not available, you still have to purchase the full package when ordering the car. I bought mine straight from the dealer. Still a very nice car though.
Oh yeah it only provides one thing which is Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC but for most people that’s all they need. The package at factory of course has all of the other elements 🙏
It varies from car to car so chat to Mercedes to be sure on the model you’re looking at. It l’s roughly £1.7k up to around £2k I believe. Some models it’s standard
Hi Nick, I just ordered my first Mercedes. A new facelift Vito. I chose not to get distronic, because I thought there is no possibility to set it off and use normal old fashion cruise control. Am I right? Ore is there a possibility to get it off? I like ur video’s and can’t wait to use everything on the Vito. Gr. Patrick
As I understand it, DISTronic is primarily the automatic following DISTance feature for cruise control. If you engage cruise while in any degree of traffic, it will manage the following distance to the vehicle in front of you. I have it, and it is a very nice feature to have and use because you can set the cruise and not have to manually tweak it for slower traffic.
Hey yes that’s right if you have it, it’ll always have adaptive cruise you won’t be able to select normal cruise control. You can however select a limiter if you like and drive that way. Glad you enjoy the videos! 🤓
I have all of these and they work the same on my SL63 2022 just my hud is not that interactive and does not show colors, also my gle53 2024 doesnt show these colors! I think its s class unique
Ah yes the HUD on S-Class (currently) is huge. It has a massive cutout on the dashboard for it, it’s like twice the size of traditional head up displays. The reason for this is because of this clever tech shown at the start of this video: th-cam.com/video/TNOqQrVfxqw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pBJL_nHylRr5ONnA
My BMW had an emergency break and it saved my life avoiding a close accident by auto brake it was so great that I didn't get into a big accident, thank you BMW
Ah yes a lot of car manufacturers have safety systems like this these days. I’ve read a few in the comments section of this video alone where people have shared their stories. Always good to have an extra set of eyes looking ahead just in case.
Video suggestion for a Tesla video in the same format? Thinking about it though, I know some states in USA have FSD but it’s not available everywhere in the world
Very interesting. This can be opted for in GLA too? Still going through evaluation. I take that only on ghat roads with hairpin bends and steep incline it is all left to driver. Rest car will do.
Yeah pretty much! Glad you found it interesting! It’s mainly for use on Dual Carriageways and Motorways. Double check with Mercedes as specs vary from model to model and round the world, depends where you’re based! 🤓
All of the other things are new and improved! That would be very disappointing if nothing had changed since then 😅 All of the systems I’d imagine are more capable and more responsive than before.
I have an E 450 4 matic. I’ve tried all adaptive systems and frankly they’re a pain. They never brake when I’d choose to nor does it accelerate when I’d accelerate. Cruise control using the stalk as my former E car had was far preferable. My wife hates all the “ adaptive “ features. Just because they can design it doesn’t mean we ought to have it.
its a bit disappointing to see these systems so aggressively regulated, my 2018 e-class will change lanes and let you remove your hands from the steering wheel for quite a length of time. It gives an initially visual warning on the dash and then after another while, it will give another warning and start beeping, getting more aggressive if I don't touch the wheel until finally, it slows me to a stop and grasses me in to the Mercedes sos system (I haven't took it this far by the way). Also, there is a system you missed I believe and that is cross-traffic assist where it will stop you pulling out of a T junction if there's something coming that you haven't seen but the car has, I've never seen it in action myself but I have had the emergency stop activate, it was unnecessary as I was in control but better safe than sorry I suppose. I understand, Mercedes are working on a new "drive pilot" system which will be level 3 automation on the steering and pedals, allowing you to remove your hands for a very long time providing it doesn't get regulated into oblivion.
I understand for regulations and sadly it’ll be no different to air traffic control in years to come. If we have automated cars rolling around everywhere with the option for manual control those manual controls will be so restricted! Regulations are good for a number of things, each manufacturer will implement their own way of tech into a car, one will have certain limitations to another which for an owner, you might not know how far the system will go before it gives up. So I completely understand the need for laws and regs but they do get in the way of cars and them being fun though! 😅
My GLC has all the features you reviewed in your video that your S model has. There certain is a learning curve with this advanced tech, your videos are a great help!
Hi, thanks for your vidéo and explanation. I wonder if in "standing" traffic on highway the car handel itself for stop and go without intervention ( in the morning on way to work that would be appreciate when we are bumper to bumper ^^) And one more question , for the hand détection on the wheel, is it only on the 3 and 9 position ? I often have my hand at 6 position on long travel on highway so i hope not ^^ Thx
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it Yes it can do, some models have a thing called Stop and Go (or something similar on the naming), it can come to a stop and then resume driving moments later. This does vary so check the car or with Mercedes to see if it has it. I believe the sensors are in and around the perforated areas on the steering wheel which is 2,3 and 4 and 8,9 and 10 so not sure about 6. I tried to keep my hands down in that area for some shots for the video but it wanted my hands in the correct position (or one of them at least anyway).
I have an Mercedes EQE and the driver assistance stops and starts automatically in traffic, its really nice feature especially when in a long traffic jam, i used it recently when stuck in farm protests in France for 6 hours while driving across France and didn't have to touch the pedals the entire time! No idea what the feature is called, but I bought the top spec vehicle (premium plus).
Well this model is missing plenty of stuff in the UK like driving assistance level 3, rear wheel steering what is very helpful for this car as is more hard to control, comparing with w222,4d sound system, rear massage seats on model s580e and other, piano black trims and more option what define luxury in a S class.
Yes specs do vary round the world! I remember when I reviewed the S-Class at launch it didn’t have rear wheel steering or 4D surround sound! Hopefully it will on a facelift or something!
Nick, I can confirm the active braking does work, it saved my life on the M6 last November coming back from Scotland, I was tired and had cruse control on at 70mph and yes I got complacent and nodded off how long for I have no idea, but all i rember is that the car rapid bleeping which woke me foot on the brake but the car was like that's not enough took over and brought my C Class to a stop behind a stationary artic lorry. so for me the brand Mercedes-Benz is everything to me.... thank you for the video i learnt something new also and I thought I knew my car.... x
Glad you’re okay! Yes the safety systems in cars are so sophisticated these days!
We’re all human at the end of the day, good to hear it works! 🤓
Hi I have a gla 2021premium plus AMG 180 would this be on my model if so iv never used it.
Only if you have a distance button on the steering wheel, it’ll look a bit like this: moba.i.mercedes-benz.com/baix/cars/222.0_comand_2017/en_GB/page/ID_c212e8d62a45abd4354ae36578c644e8-1b2bdbb4beb1df13354ae3657040a481-en-GB.html#
Hope the link works, it’s from Google of the image of the buttons.
I remember watching another manufacturer test this out with an exec or a CEO in front of news and media….let’s just say it didn’t go very well 😅
But yes it’s a brilliant system!
Thank you! Ah that’s good to know! Thanks for sharing! 🙏🤓
Hey Kanoo. 🤓
Yes Active Steering Assist does "steer for you" but I want to make it fundamentally clear to all that these are aids.
I’d love all of these on my car!
thank you so so so much! never stop making these mercedes videos!!
Ah brilliant! Thanks for sharing! 🙏
Thanks
Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏
Kudos to Nick! He got it completely right, what you as driver are supposed to do and what the systems can do and what they can’t. Thumbs up 👍
Thank you! Ooo very nice!
Glad you enjoy the videos! 🙏
Nick, you certainly weren't joking about some great new videos coming up, after your 100K milestone! This was a GREAT one. Thank you.
Awesome! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fun fact this video project was the largest to date!
3 GoPros on one car
4 GoPros again on another
Audio for me
Total project was over 300GB in size in the end 😂 I also shortened it as the original was over 30 mins 🙃
Wow! Truly appreciated by many I am sure. It must take you hours and hours to research, arrange a car, second follow-car and driver, get to site, film and refilm, edit and then render and upload. I saw the video was 25 minutes and I thought "Great! Let's go!" 😊😊😊
Haha it was a long one! I’d love to do a behind the scenes one day!
Ah thanks for sharing! Oh yes it’s not like Waymo at all, although I would love to try it out 😅
More of an aid, so you’re always in control 👍🏼
Thank you so much Nick, I picked up my new beautiful GLC300 4matic suv with everything in it last weekend. Your videos have been so helpful with setting up and understanding how every thing works. ☺
Ah very nice! Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
Ah no worries! Thanks for watching! 🤓👊🏼
Ooo exciting!
Best explanation of MB Driver assistance package ever! Been to 3 dealers and none of them could tell me whether adaptive cruise exists on car and what to do to engage it! Well done on this video.
Awh thank you! Well it’s thanks to Mercedes UK for providing the car. I sadly don’t have this on my car so couldn’t have made this video without them 🙏
Thanks to my dad for being the other car following me around to get an extra camera angle! 😊
I pick up my new GLE on Friday, so I’ve been watching a lot of your content which are really well presented and very helpful. Thank you for taking so much time to produce so much excellent content.

Great video Nick, one of the most Informative out there, great work.
Thank you! 🙏 🤓
Glad you enjoyed this one!
I would definitely need a good driving assistant in any car with the steering wheel on the wrong side. 😉
On a more serious note, most of the things ( that you explain excellently btw) my 8 years old BMW can do too.
Haha 😛
I know I’m in the states at the moment and everyone’s on the wrong side 😅

Hey Nick - Congrats on the 100k subscribers!
Love the MB vids especially the detailed tech explanations on the various systems. I think many people purchase cars like this & never realise what their cars are actually capable of
Cheers m8
Thank you! And glad you enjoy the videos! 🤓
Very true! I’ve certainly learnt a few things from my own car! 🤓
Will make some more videos soon!
One of your best videos Nick. Very technical. Must have taken you all day! Needed an S-Class to demo all that tech

Ooo nice! 👌🏼 what model are you going for? 👍🏼
I love driver assistance system. They are much better than full self driving systems
Does it have stop and go? And if yes does it come to a complete stop and accelarate itself ? And if so for how many seconds? ( all this is related to active cruise)
Yes but that depends on the car, model and year so double check with a dealer for that one and they’ll be able to let you know 👍🏼
I've had Distronic on my last two MB cars (2014 CLS550 & 2021 E63S AMG) and both vehicles had nearly all of these features. At the moment, I have a 2024 S580 on order and can't wait for delivery in late May.
Oh wow what a collection over the years! You’ll love the S-Class they are beautiful to drive! 🙏
In 4 MB’s E and S since 2003 -> always driving Distronic.
This is what the manual states:
The driver is required to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times to ensure that they can intervene at any time to correct the course of the vehicle and keep it in lane.
Oh awesome! Thank you! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed the video! And how exciting on the car! 🙏
Great video, Nick!
Thank you! 🙏

Thank you! Ah very nice! 👌🏼
You must’ve read my mind as I came back to your channel hoping for exactly this today! Thank you!
Aha 😜👀
Your video explained everything in perfect detail!@@npoleary
sadly no driving assistance package though!
Ah awesome! Yes there are tonnes of features in this package! 🙏
Can you make a video about BMW's full driving assistant package and any self-driving package if they have any? I'm intrigued to learn what they have.
I’ll add it to the list of potential future videos! 🤓
@@npoleary I have the new 2024 highway assistant and it's full hands free up to 85...
One huge point with this specifically is that it’s a fraction of the cost of the driving assistance package
I plan to make a video on that soon
How did you active the drive assist?
Cruise control buttons and distance then set speed?
Yeah that’s it, the buttons shown at the start of the video.
If you’ve already pressed those buttons, you could just press SET and it’ll start straight away 🙏
Could someone help to explain whe the car slows down does is it show brake lights for cars behind d?
Oh yeah of course! That would be dangerous if it didn’t 🤓
Another great video. Thanks Nick 👍🏼
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
When the car does the overtaking for you? I demonstrated that feature to my Mrs and to say she wasn`t best pleased is an understatement 🤣🤣
Another really informative and useful video. Thanks Nick.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your videos are just amazing and very helpful.. thanks for the good work and leep doing it.
Thank you! 🙏 glad you enjoy them!
S class the king of Mercedes ❤
Hi Nick, short remark to what you've said at around 15:16 min into the video. There is a Level 3 system available in some models such as S-Class ans EQS. It only works on pre-defined motorways under certain conditions. It allows you to for example use your phone while the car is driving for you (that is actually also allowed in countries where this Level 3 system is certified). The time you have to take control back is much longer compared to a Level 2 system,
What you've seen about the parking garages is actually a Level 4 system, which doesn't require a human in the car.
Here’s an extract from the manual: share.icloud.com/photos/0f9en2dzRFNhZCSdqUhIhn1JA
It can even be an issue if you wear gloves apparently which I didn’t realise till after making this video.
Great video Nick as always. I’m waiting on my new car arriving. On vehicles where you don’t purchase when ordering does Pre-installation for DISTRONIC mean I can buy through Mercedes Me?
Thank you! 🙏
I’ve heard about this thing on Mercedes me and I want to check it out see what the difference is. So it’s on my “to research and film list!”
Thx for a nice video. What it also does is to shake the driver seatbelt to warn you against a collision. I have testet it several times when going a little close to parked cars etc. 😊
Ah that’s PRESAFE prepping the car in case something does happen! Very clever though! 🤓👍🏼
I absolutely love having the driving assistance package, it's brilliant! One thing you missed off the route based speed adaption is tolls. It will also slow you down ahead of a toll. I discovered this on a drive to Wales a few years back
Ah that’s good to know! Didn’t realise it did that! Do you remember what speed it dropped to? Sadly didn’t have any tolls near me when I was filming 😅
@npoleary it wasn't much to be fair, I think it drops down to 65mph, same as if you're approaching a tail back, but it does say "toll ahead." You gotta love Mercedes, they think of everything!
Thanks Nick! Very nicely explained.
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
While using Distronic plus in a S580 (2024) my car slows down as i approach a very slow car in front of me. Question I have is how does the car behind me know that I am slowing down if my car brakes are not applied and brake light do not come on? Is it not dangerous? Hope someone has a answer. Thank you.
So in Mercedes if ANY system slows you down more than engine braking so:
- Using the Limiter (and it slows you down)
- Using DISTRONIC (slowing down again)
- Brake Recuperation for hybrids and EV’s
- Emergency Braking systems
You will always have brake lights come on, brake lights are linked to the car slowing down more than normal, not just the pedal 🤓
There’s probably more examples but if it’s anything more than normal braking, the lights come on.
I love my S!!! Especially the hud and the augmented reality.
Hi! I noticed that you drive with the arms to extended. Don't get me wrong, try to search videos of how to adjust the driver seat.
Best wishes
Hey thanks! But sadly I have extremely long legs so have to have the seat further back than most 😅
Thanks again Nick.
But it’ll usually be located on the centre middle screen (wording used here varies a little)
But look for:

TRAFFIC SIGN ASSIST or SPEED LIMIT ASSIST
Driving assistance in Cyprus for Gla35 is €2500 I guess it's too much for me ....already the price with the extras comes up to €65.5K 🤒I have only blind spot included on premium pack and also brake assistance and lane assistance it's included. I add extra the active distance assist distronic for €500 . Explanation was excellent as always 👌 thanks
Terrific video Nick. I will be revisiting when we get our EQA 350….still waiting.
Awh thank you! Ooo very nice! 👌🏼 What colour did you go for?
@@npoleary Thought I was a member, confess, new to TH-cam.
Wow what an interesting story! Thanks for sharing! 🤓
Always good to have an extra set of eyes looking ahead, wish my car had this amazing system too!
would the active speed limit assist be available on a glc 300 2019. Great content as always. Thanks you.
It is available (as an option). I have a 2019 GLC 300.
Thank you & you! 🙏
We have speed limit assist on GLB, but always picked speed for trucks and etc., so we had to turn it off. Otherwise it would randomly brake.
Good work fella 👍
Thank you! 🙏 glad you enjoyed it!
Ah that’s good! Thanks for sharing! 🙏
We’ve just bought a 2024 a class, are we able to purchase the driving assistance through the Mercedes me app?
I’ve heard some rumours that some new models allow you to do this! Annoying as I bought my car late last year 😅
Tis the way!
There’s a button like a distance button on the steering wheel apparently it can do it. And you can also view this in the Mercedes me store
First 3 things are part of the "Predictive (adaptive) cruise control" or similary named system for other brands for years. 4th thing is the same as the 6th thing.
Can you customize the classic instrument dials ie put something in the middle of the dial.
Yeah you can do! I did make a “customise your instrument cluster” video some time ago but would like to make another again somewhen!
they use to have where you could customize the left and right dials, but for some weird reason they stopped it
Yeah that’s right! I covered that on my comparison video between the previous generation MBUX and the newer one. I believe they just wanted to simplify it for the end user.
Can you tell me if you can order the S class with rear seats entertainment package and the 4D sound?
You’ll have to check with a dealer for specs that are available to order 🤓
It can vary round the world…
When I reviewed the S-Class sometime ago it didn’t then but not sure if it’s changed since then.
Online on the configurator doesn't say nothing about them and chauffeur package and without them is not worthing. Better you buy an E class and is the same thing. Thanks for reply 🤝@npoleary
@MihaitaMYG no worries! 🤓
I would like to know when the car is holding line assist and the sign to take over the steering wheel appears, can i only touch the steering wheel from below or do you have to grip the steering wheel correctly as it is held correctly
Just an element of touch is required I believe somewhere near the centre on the sides
On my eqe you can touch the steering wheel anywhere@@npoleary
Not sure if it’s the same elsewhere round the world but if I remember it’s under
HOME

SYSTEM
WIFI & INTERNET
Then look for something along the lines of vehicle location. Just remember this can be switched off by the driver!
Great video! How many of the packages are standard in this car?
Oh the S-Class? I believe they’re standard but check with Mercedes on the car you’re looking at as they vary round the world 🤓
@npoleary I am in Bournemouth. Interesting that Mercedes Sandbank have the CLE!
Ah I believe they shared it between local dealers.
They messaged me to say it was in on a day so I came in to film it.
Message them and they’ll get it there for you if it’s not already! 👍🏼
Where do you find the e-brochure for the new S-Class...? And, on a lighter note, why do you always wear all black...? :)
This link here: www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/ebrochure-download.html
And I don’t always, but black is just easier. Don’t have to think about it much 😅
Great Demo thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓🙏
Haha thank you! 😅
Glad you enjoyed the video! 👊🏼
Believe it or not, on S-Class now it's standard 🤓 (in the UK anyway)
But yes those systems are amazing, wish I had them on my own daily car! 🤓
👍Great reviews by the way!@@npoleary
Hey Nick, just a thought. With the various MB models having different levels of technology installed are you able to do a table or s/sheet indicating which models the various technologies have trickled down to?
i.e. I’m guessing that the S Class you tested has the full driving assistance package, but when you go down through the range to the E Class, C Class, CLE, etc are you also able to spec the full package on these models or is it restricted to certain parts of each of the tech packages that you explain?
Cheers Steve
Hey thanks Steve! Sadly that’ll be a battle that I’ll never win 😅
I’ve thought on the side of a few extra things I could do just like this actually.
The only issue is that specs vary so much :(
If one was produced like that, it could change throughout the year of Mercedes model changes and spec adjustments and as Mercedes have 30+ different models, I sadly don’t have access to all of them at the same time to even make something like that.
Plus it’ll be different in every country round the world too :(
Best thing to do is have a look at the brochures and the Driving Assistance Package page (usually halfway through) will tell you what works on that car.
New Cars:
www.mercedes-benz.co.uk/passengercars/ebrochure-download.html
Archived Brochures: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qrnfhW6dkIpv0X0yXTUHgur3LEFrW2mU?usp=share_link
So apologies I kind of have to keep it generalised to appeal to as many as possible 👍🏼
But I’ll try my best! 😅
On a previous car i had adaptive cruise control. This would actually slow you down and bring the car to a stop at traffic lights etc where a car was stopped. Does the Mercedes work this way. And thank you for this video.
Yes but this is next level.
I think that it can as long as its under 30 seconds. Then it will disengage.
Yes but this package has loads of other things that support it too. It should resume if conditions are suitable like on a motorway 🙏
Has the A35 premium plus 2024 have this Driving assistant package
Very true! 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing! Yes it is only an assistance system so good job you’re monitoring it! 🤓 most of the time it’s pretty good!
Mercedes is way more Superior than Tesla 💪😎🎸
I’ve seen it here on the the Mercedes me store: shop.mercedes-benz.com/en-gb/connect/pdp/active-distance-assist-distronic/553
I wish I had this on my car but it’s not compatible but that’s so cool that you can get the main feature for a whole lot less cost.
Fascinating video & great tech for sure!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🙏
How much to add this is it an option or does it come with it
In the US it is around 1700-1950 add on. I would not have both either of my cars, if it had not included.
It varies from car to car so chat to Mercedes to be sure on the model you’re looking at. It l’s roughly £1.7k up to around £2k I believe. Some models it’s standard
very imformative
Thank you! 🙏
I wonder how this compares to latest Tesla assistant system (they call it FSD).
My 2019 BMW has all of those features and some more.
Yeah most German car manufacturers offer something similar! Might do a comparison one day 👀
So does a 2011 Cl600. Including night vision.
My Jaguar has all the same features. They are truly wonderful on a long drive.
Ah awesome! 🤓
Distronic did in in late 90s I believe
Nothing new in this package?
All of the other things are new and improved! That would be very disappointing if nothing had changed since then 😅
All of the systems I’d imagine are more capable and more responsive than before.
I turned the Traffic Sign Assist and Route Based Speed Assist off on my 2022 GLC 300. I found them both annoying.
Yes they can be turned off if you find it interfering with the drive too much. Just stick with the classic adaptive cruise! 🤓
My GLC has all the features you reviewed in your video that your S model has. There certain is a learning curve with this advanced tech, your videos are a great help!
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoy them! I’ll keep em coming!
Hi, thanks for your vidéo and explanation. I wonder if in "standing" traffic on highway the car handel itself for stop and go without intervention ( in the morning on way to work that would be appreciate when we are bumper to bumper ^^)
And one more question , for the hand détection on the wheel, is it only on the 3 and 9 position ? I often have my hand at 6 position on long travel on highway so i hope not ^^
Thx
No problem! Glad you enjoyed it
Yes it can do, some models have a thing called Stop and Go (or something similar on the naming), it can come to a stop and then resume driving moments later.
@@npoleary thanks à lot, and keep going with your videos, i watched some, and good content ;p
@@virtualcircuit merci beaucoup, moi ce sont les bouchons marseillais qui m'exaspèrent, je vise la classe e hybride elle devrait aussi en être capable
2 eyes and a brain with common sense is my assistance package when driving.
