Hi Nick, I find your videos very useful. I couldn’t find any video for E class 2024 key tips. I am unable to program key to unlock driver’s door only. Can you please help?
Thank you! Well I presume the key is the same as the newer style one on my key tips video. Sadly I’ve only had a few hours with an E-Class when I had it for review. Have you tried holding both unlock and lock for 6-7 seconds?
My favorite was one day I was frustrated with “Hey Mercedes” because it couldn’t recognize the request to open my panoramic window. I said “well you’re worthless” and it replied “hey that’s not nice”. Loved the snarky reply 😂
Related to you saying “please” I sometimes say “thank you” (or more precisely “gracias” since I use the system in Spanish) after the command is performed and I like the humble response “de nada” that Mercedes returns.
I have really come to appreciate the "visual owners manual" your tutorials provide. Many YT channels, including yours, helped me with my recent auto purchase which started with a long list of cars and resulted in a Mercedes 450E. Your channel helps me "own" the car, i.e. operate it. Once I take delivery of my custom order I look forward to seeing if I can actually watch your YT videos on the infotainment system and, with your help, make settings adjustments to suit my needs. I even hope to create my own playlists with a grouping of the tutorials such as Safety, Navigation, Car Play, etc. One thing I am still confused by is the interplay between MBUX and Apple Car Play - i.e. is it like Mac OS where I can be using MBUX navigation with Apple Music playing in the background, or have Google Maps providing navigation while Apple is providing the music. Thanks for all your help!
Awh thank you! Glad you enjoy them! That sounds good, I’ve got a few videos that I’ve filmed at my local dealer and the surrounding area! I can try and answer any questions but if you needed actual demos, Mercedes staff have people called Star Experts who can help show too! But message me if you have a questions and if I can help I’ll get back to you 🤓 With MBUX & CarPlay, they are completely separate systems so ideally you should try and stick to one or the other but…you can swap between them easily. The reason I say this is because you’ll find sometimes CarPlay will steal the focus away from what you’re doing, so for example if you have the MBUX Sat Nav on, and you get a text message you’ll lose the map screen because it’s gone into CarPlay. So it’s best to use one or the other. (If that makes sense)
Direct commands are especially useful if you are multilingual. I speak on the phone or with passengers in our first language and for the mercedes commands I use English and direct commands. This way I don't activate direct commands when just chatting
in the us you can link your MyQ home garage door , so its more useful then the Philips lights ;) "Hey Mercedes, did I leave my garage door open " " Hey Mercedes, Close/ open garage door "
It is all right for most English voices doing the commands, but up here in Scotland, it has a great difficulty with the Scottish voices. It can get very frustrating. You end up shouting at her.😂😂😂
I’m also Scottish and would agree with this - it is definitely a bit hit and miss so I don’t bother with it. I’m not that keen on talking to a car anyway and would never do it if there was someone else in the car as it just sounds daft - probably an age thing though.
Great video, thanks Nick. I am going to use the direct commands, coming up to park, and that is complicated where I live because I have to get very tight to a wall, I’ll “mute music” using the direct command. All the best.
I got my EQB 300 last Wednesday so, I’ve been eating them up. For one, I was searching for where to pre condition my battery before driving and finally found it on this channel. I would have never guessed it was part of the cabin pre-temp.
Another great video of information. It looks like that is the same GLB that you reviewed, if so, I think that would be a great car for someone with dog(s). I wish that I could have afforded it back when I would go camping, it would be perfect. "Intermediate Destination" is a game changer for me. With Phone, I didn't know I could have my work phone connected as well. Makes it better when I am on call and leave the house. So funny, I tried to get the panoramic roof to open on another car, and could only get the roller blinds to work. Spent 10 minutes...:) We are going to try the direct commands, specifically Mute, and Next Track.
Awh thank you! Glad you found it useful! Yeah I didn’t realise about the intermediate destination either until this video! And the Geo Quiz! Haha 🤓 And yeah it was the GLB 🙏 very practical car!
Hi Nick, another great video. My favourite is "Hey Mercedes, start Dashcam recording". The menu icons to enable recording are quite small, so this saves time on vehicles with the the inbuilt camera.
Not only saying “Please” is polite. But also “Thank you”. I really like how Mercedes replies “You are welcome” to this. This is so cute. 😂 BTW, another hint for climate control: you can just say “Hey Mercedes, I am cold” and it will raise the temp. Same with «It is hot”.
Thank you! Not looked at that specially as I use CarPlay in my car but all audio controls are often in HOME SETTINGS SYSTEM AUDIO And there’s loads of features in there to adjust. Also look in HOME PHONE SETTINGS icon And in there too. You could also try adjusting the volume when you get that notification although I do appreciate it’ll probably be very quick!
Wait.. it is Friday yet? What is this Tuesday drop? I am all for it tho... 😃 One thing of note, in the phone portion, you had Iphone 1 and Iphone 2. You can actually have it display a name if you want to. It pulls it from your Iphone name itself. Settings > General > About > Name. Change the name of your phone and it will appear on the Mercedes screen. BTW, we upgraded from a 2022 C Class Cabriolet to a 2023 E450 Cabriolet so we are finally back to NTG 6.
Nope! Haha 😛 I’m trialing something for a short while (Might be a couple of videos each week for a few weeks just to see how they perform) It sure does, yes you can rename it although another thing to note 😜 you’ll have re-pair the device again if you’ve already paired it up with the old name. Ooo nice! 👌🏼
Great video again Nick - thanks! I'm trying to find a way to have these notifications permanently removed that show up on my MBUX screen (EQA 2020) telling me to make an appointment for maintenance (which I already did ), so if you have any tips for that please?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I think most cars are the same, when a car is due a service it will not stop telling you until it’s been done. Mine was the same when it was serviced in the summer. So it has to be dismissed at the start of each journey.
Hey Nick, learnt a lot from your videos Thanks, but i found you can open all the windows with voice control in my GLC 2024 but, found direct commands without saying 'HEY MERCEDES' will only work without passengers, am i doing somthing wrong?
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! Yeah funny you should say that someone mentioned yesterday in comments on a video somewhere that they were able to do the windows. That is definitely a new thing although I don’t know if it works in for example my car. I was going to test it somewhen! Maybe later when I go out for a bit!
Great video, thanks Nick. I have heard the the AI in the car can learn your habits, like when going home from work, it will ask if you want to phone your wife, because you usually do, or ask if you wish to make a stop at the shop, because you usually do, or prompt a temperture change because it has gotten colder. Perhaps you can make a video about this learning AI feature. Regards, Wayne.
Thanks Wayne, MBUX NTG 7 (most models without a touchpad) sadly don’t do that via voice. It has recommendations that can appear at the bottom of what you mentioned. I’ve covered it on a few videos on Mercedes models that have Zero Layer which I’m sure are models that have the vertical screen in the middle.
Another great video with excellent tips! I own a 2022 GLC and am encountering an issue with the Mercedes Navigation system. My navigation settings are configured to avoid toll roads, yet no matter the destination-be it the next street or 100 miles away-the system persistently notifies me, 'The following route options cannot be avoided: Toll roads,' even when there are none. This becomes particularly frustrating while driving in London as I attempt to steer clear of the London Congestion Charge Zone. The Mercedes dealership updated the maps to the latest version but this didn't solve the problem. Surprisingly, they suggested that the Mercedes navigation system does not provide an option to bypass the Congestion Charge Zone and claimed that the 'Avoid Toll Roads' setting is causing the issue which seems illogical, especially when the message appears for nearby destinations without any toll roads. I'd appreciate any insights or solutions to this perplexing issue.
Thank you! Oh how strange, I’ve not experienced that myself on my own car. Have they tried updating the multimedia system itself? I’d suggest taking it back as that really doesn’t sound quite right. If you selected avoid toll roads, it should remember it and likewise if you unselect it, it should also remember that too.
Hi Nick. You asked for suggestions! I was on the point of replacing my c class with a new one, but cancelled when I read about "Intelligent Speed Assistance", to be compulsory from July. Understand it will automatically slow a car to the speed limit and that's its deliberately made difficult to turn off. Now my present c class regularly gets speed limits wrong, eg if there's a missing derestriction sign joining a motorway, and in any event I resent these nanny state things on principle. Can you do a video about this and if/how it can be turned off? My local MB dealer don't know!
I’ve heard of this for years but never seen anything since. There was talk of it last year but nothing happened. Although I will add that some cars have a speed alert warning where it’ll beep if you go over the speed limit, I’m sure I’ll do a video on that! Cars that have that feature can turn it off top right with one tap on a Mercedes, so very easy. Actually restricting speed, haven’t seen or heard of that yet.
@@npoleary There was an article in the Daily Telegraph on 28th April which explicitly stated that all cars sold from 6 July must have this technology installed: "From July 6, new vehicles sold in the European Union and Northern Ireland will be fitted with intelligent speed assistance (ISA) to prevent accidents. Although the UK has opted out, meaning it will not be a requirement on British roads, the technology will still be installed in most cars, and drivers can choose to switch it off on a daily basis. Steve Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation, an independent research organisation, told the Sunday Times: “I think many motorists will tire of switching off ISA and they will just learn to live with it.” Mr Gooding said it would take autonomy away from drivers, with cars increasingly deciding what drivers can and can’t do, and said it was the beginning of the end of people choosing cars based on top speed. ISA has a forward-facing camera that can recognise speed limit signs and is integrated with GPS mapping data so the car always knows what limit applies to its location." No-one has contradicted this but with your Mercedes connection I assume you can easily check if this is correct. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/28/cars-to-obey-speed-limits-automatically/
Here’s my take, I get that all of these safety systems in cars are great however there becomes a barrier when things get in the way. As driving autonomy gets better over time and the end result, we can all jump into a car and it takes us somewhere (that sounds awesome!), in the meantime there’s driving assistance tech and each manufacturer does it differently. Speed limiters, lane assist to name a few…I feel if this is introduced the tech that exists in ALL cars today can as you said get the speed wrong. And it will. Suddenly we’ll be beeping the person in front because they’re doing 20mph in a 40mph zone and as we pass them, the person is slightly older and doesn’t know how to override what the car thought is the lower speed for the road aaaand it’s not their fault. I’ll monitor it and if anything comes out, they’ll be a video 😜
Hi nick, if you were given the choice to pick between Gla 200 premium plus v Cla 200 premium plus which one would you go for and why? I think you are the best person to ask😮
Well I would have gone for a CLA (that was on my shortlist) but went with A-Class to save money. However as I have a dog the GLA would be ideal right now!
In portuguese, "Mercedes" was not understanding the destination, which made me very upset so I shout the F word. She replied something like "we need to work on our relationship"😂
Nick, Great video and thanks for the tips. I've just brought a GLE, and I'm useless with the tech. I've spotted your video was done at Baiter, and I am in Poole If you are free to help me set up my new car. That would be great. Thanks
Ah awesome! Glad you enjoy the video! Ah you’ll be alright! 🤓 It’s easy when you get used to it! Sadly one to ones aren’t something I offer currently. But I have plenty of videos on my channel for hours worth of stuff to watch! Plus if you do need extra help, the guys at the Mercedes dealer in Poole are great and very knowledgeable! That’s where I bought my car from 😎
Hi Nick. Love the channel. When do you think MBUX voice assistant will be able to connect to Amazon Alexa, echo, dot for lighting and heating if needed. Cheers
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos! I’m sure Mercedes had this but I believe it might have been discontinued as I don’t see a reference anywhere for it now
Great video thanks Nick. QQ - can you use the in car phone system so that you can use Hey M but use Apple CarPlay for the music? Or is it one or the other?
Thank you! You can but I’d always recommend to try and use one or the other or you may have some weird pop ups for example. If you’re using the in built Sat nav but get a text message through while using CarPlay you will lose the map. And will have to press buttons to get back to it, not fun if you’re in a group text and navigating round a city at the same time. You can use both but ideally for the best experience it’s best to just stick to one or the other.
Now you must do a video on what the linked smart accounts can be used for!!! Sitting in my car watching this video wasn't very clever as my car kept reacting to your Hey....😂
for navigation you can also say to save for example for parents. I haven't figure out to make it on display but via voice it's possible to save. only sometimes mercedes me doesn't know what you mean with parents and replies to you that you should be proud on your parents they brought up a great child. 😆
Thanks for the updated voice commands Nick 👍I sometimes get a txt from Mercedes-Me app saying rain detected and windows opened to ventilation mode. Not really sure what this means?
@@npoleary No not at all and the windows always appear closed when I check. I think the windows adjust very slightly to prevent condensation when it detects rain…maybe? I have the A class saloon AMG
Try putting all the windows down and back up and see if it recalibrates. No if it rains they may close but if they’re already closed it shouldn’t change.
Hi Nick - following earlier video of yours I have happily been using Apple Car Play with my iPhone with the UB-c to lightning connector that came with my GLC. Just bought a longer cable so my Grandaughter can use my phone from back seat and when I plug in to my iPhone, there is no CarPlay just charging. Any thoughts on this one please? Regards, John
It depends on the cable, sadly not all cables work with CarPlay. It has to be one that carries data along it, some only charge. Most of the time it’s the Apple certified ones that work best.
A few Day before when I say command like always, when going home from ex. work, and expecting that Mercedes start navigate. So after command: "hey Mercedes, Iam going home"... she reply to me: "ok, see you" 😂
Hi Nick. Just picked up my new GLE 450D Coupe. Any chance of a video going through Dashboard (and HUD) symbols? I can’t be arsed to read the massive manual 😂😂. Keep getting a picture of a foot which sometimes turns green and usually has another symbol next to it. Not intuitive. Thanks mate.
Hey! Ooo very nice! Thanks for the video suggestion! Yes I would like to cover that, it’s called Eco Assist as far as I’ve seen. But I’ll add it to the list. I do have a lot booked in for weeks at the moment though but it’s in the list of potential future videos 👍🏼
And one day “Hey, Mercedes” will let you know she has been snooping on your conversations all along. Lol. Nick, who is the woman in the car with you? She doesn’t sound like the same woman as last week. Wife, who is sitting beside you, asks, what woman was in this car? MBUX laughs. 😅. Dialing divorce attorney now.
@@npoleary After a disastrous trip wrestling with the old NTG system on W213 getting in a loop with Android Auto/Waze + Media player. I've decided to explore voice commands more, this has resulted in a long piece of paper dangling from the dashboard :-)
Is COMMAND partial to British accents? E.g. "Shew awl ahlbooms?" Any Cockney? Go to Loondun? Cool Joe? Do German models speak German (etc.)? If one should end up buying a Cherman model, can the software be updated to speak Amer'can? Ah done asked mahn to "Show all albums" and the consarned thing asked me "Which street number in Nebraska do you want to go to?" (I kid you not!) Useful tip: if you want to display your album list, manually, (while in USB) swipe sideways and select "Search". I have found it possible to play with swipes without fear of messing anything up. It's easy once you get the hang of it. Basic up, down, right left. It won't activate the "Eject" seat.
@@npoleary --- I forgot about the language choices! I enjoy watching your videos and learn from them too. Do you have plans to, or have you already covered, the Mercedes night-vision system? I saw or read somewhere that some "driver mode" system will adapt to the most recent five minutes of driving, "learning" it. Software keep improving.
Mercedes did have a thing called night vision assist or something but that was on like an S-Class Maybach or similar. Not sure if they still have that tech, I thought it had been removed. But again this could vary round the world!
@@npoleary --- Cadillac, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota. Active infrared v. passive heat detection. New S, E, and C class offer it. Also some earlier models. Cadillac pioneered it many years ago. I don't have the interest to research it. Not to give away too much money, but they haven't yet come up with a heads-up display to highlight edges of the road and pedestrians. To be truly good, imo, we do not need a camera image like a movie, we need outline guides, like white road lines right on the windshield, unobtrusively superimposed onto the visible road in matching perspective. With AI and graphics that is [easily?] possible. Current systems, including dash-cam-like portables, have the drawback of talking eyes off the road, and the portables have two major failings (imo): a) too bright, like watching TV while driving at night, and b) a single camera that has too small a field of vision, so it will not show anything at all of a 90 degree turn onto a less illuminated side street. I tried a portable. My impression after driving slowly around a neighborhood was simply that I did better without it, mainly because it emits too much light (disturbing the eyes), but also because the hardest parts of the road to see are the necessary turns and twists, as seen out the side windows, and the front-facing camera won't show those at all. For up-and-down roads they might offer a camera at the top of a retractable antenna mounted on the roof. For truly windy and narrow roads, forward-hearing sound detection might be very useful, to give a warning of unseeable approaching vehicles. For fauna, a scary sound warning beamed at them might help, to alert them of impending danger. Amber street lights give much clearer night vision because (I think) the wave length is not so "bright" and allows for eyes to adjust without contraction of the iris (i.e. pupils can dilate more in amber than in white - I speculate). But you do not see many amber-illuminated roads.
Hi Nick, just recently purchased a manual 2020 A200 AMG Line, and it gets delivered in a couple weeks, will it have ambient lighting, I’m not too bothered either way, just more intrigued, thanks again for the informative videos.
Ah very nice! 👌🏼 You’ll have to check the car, sadly I wouldn’t know what the specification was of the car when it was made. Depends if whoever bought it new chose it. Mercedes have Premium packages and premium plus packages so if it has one of those then most likely 🤓
Hi Nick, picked it up today today 🎉. Unfortunately the old Mercedes me user is logged in and I’ve gathered I need to go to a Mercedes dealership (with proof of purchase and ID) to get this changed, do you know if they’ll charge and if so how much. (UK based).
Navigation or telephone won’t work if you have Apple Car Play in use though 🤔. Just bought our 2nd Mercedes, gone from an A Class (200) to a CLA 200. There are a fair few differences in the vehicle update but why remove the track pad?? Our main dealer said there were “complaints” about the trackpad lag but the new set up is awful! All voice commanded or via the touch screen, haven’t had the new car a week yet and I am already fed up with saying “next track”. I haven’t worked out if there is a function to skip tracks on Spotify via the steering wheel yet so if you can give me a hint that would be great 🤗
No it won’t work as well because Apple CarPlay is designed to replace the in built functions. Some cars can run both together but it can get a little messy when for example you’re using the in built sat nav and CarPlay pops up out of nowhere telling you about a text message. They’re completely separate. There are a few ways of can do next track, just filmed a video this morning on instrument cluster functions so keep an eye out Friday! 👍🏼 Basically to help now what year is your car? Is it a brand new one?
@@npoleary It’s a shame, in our previous A Class Apple Air Play & MBUX were completely separate. I will keep an eye out for the new video. The new car is a 24 plate CLA 200 Sport Executive Coupé (that the official model title) which we picked up on Tuesday this week. To be fair it is exactly the same as the A Class we had in terms of engine etc. It does have the benefit of the new Mild Hybrid technology, which is interesting.
I'll share just because you did. If Your wife or passenger annoys You, tell your MBUX the following line:"Hey Mercedes, eject passenger seat!" See what happens...😂
Nick: Hey Mercedes, what you think of BMW? Mercedes: the same as you do. otherwise we would not be sitting here...!!! 😬😉... my god that's was SOMETHING..!!! 😂.. i love BMW but the last few years i really HATE the design Philosophy they do now😔. so i agree with Mercedes on this. and some bad jokes are funny because they bad or not funny as it says. am wondering. is the Voice command we can use it to check the car or diagnosis it!?
Haha yeah she does have a couple of extra responses to that too I’ve heard before. You can ask it to check for a next service but I think that’s it, not sure on anything else. It’s connected to the Internet through Mercedes me so things could be added in the future!
Most of the time it’s down to the charger, so smart chargers when charging at home would do it. I think some new Mercedes EV’s offer it though but normally it’ll be down to the charger as it’ll have smart integration and sometimes tariff integration like mine at home. The car wouldn’t have access to that info.
Could do with Mercedes adding Amazon Alexa to the MBUX voice assistant in Mercedes Me. Would be useful to tell it to turn the heating on while I'm on my way home.
@victorkasina4457 they must have changed that as you have never been able to do that before I’ll have to check it out somewhen when I next visit a dealer!
I have sworn at Hey Mercedes more than once. I don’t find my Hey Mercedes all that helpful and as I said, and I let it know what I thought. It’s response was “we have to work on our relationships”. I did laugh and the response did lower my temperature in that moment, but I still don’t find it particularly helpful in the moment. I find reaching for the button or touching the screen as quick and less frustrating. One other thing, purchasing the annual Mercedes Me feature and the options that come with it is quite different in North America than in Europe. I find the 20 some dollars I have to pay a month is hardly worth it. My features are remote start, location, lock unlock, horn, map updates and that is about it. Features such as Apple Car play meagre at best as I can’t even get Utube or Internet access. Still love my car though.
Oh yeah don’t swear at her or she’ll get upset! 😅 Yes I’ve heard it does vary round the world. It always will sadly! Well if you don’t use the app that much then just cancel it and save some money. I don’t think I’ll renew mine at the end of my trial.
Oh really there was a weather radar? That sounds cool! I’ve not seen that on any Mercedes since producing videos on them (roughly since 2020). Sadly I’ve got limited coverage on anything prior to that.
Another good video nick welldone,I've gotten fed up with my cla ,in 2 years I've done 4800 miles, part exchange for brand new sportage top range suv, july i never got car I ordered ,I was told it was nicked by another dealership.?? So my experiance with mercedes not been good ,dealership better ,not mercedes ,so I no longer mercedes customer.
Thank you! Well I do cover other brands so if you are in the market to change your car next time, I might a video on a car that you’re after 😊 Currently have made videos on Mercedes, BMW, VW, Volvo (coming soon and Tesla) and maybe more!
I had a situation recently. Gas was very low on my GLC 300 and it was showing a range of 27 miles when I started. I was going to stop at a gas station which was at around 17 miles. As I reached the gas station the car slowed down with a warning and stopped 20 feet away from the gas station. Thought of pushing the car to the gas station as it’s only 20 feet. But, I couldn’t put the gear in neutral to do that. It’s automatically go to park and didn’t allow me to put it in neutral. How do I force it to neutral?
Ah I see, hold your foot on the brake while you do this at all times as doing the below will cause the vehicle to roll so make sure you have a helping hand. Ignition on (with all the lights) Foot on brake Move gearstick into Neutral Manually take the parking brake off To put the gearstick in Neutral, move the gearstick slightly (not all the way) or try holding slightly and it’ll go to neutral
WHOA, hold the phone. I do not believe you can change the ambient lighting brightness. Tell me how! Better yet would be a way to change the head-up display position and brightness. Oh, and I say "Open the sunshade". It works.
Pretty sure it’s something Hey Mercedes change ambient light to 50% or something similar. Head up display commands would be good but I don’t think those work on Hey Mercedes
@@npoleary Nope, I tried everything. "Change ambient lighting brightness to 50 percent" resulted in setting the maximum charge level to 50%, "Change Ambient lighting brightness to level 5" made it close the roller sun shade(!). "Increase Ambient Lighting Brightness" got "Unfortunately this vehicle does not have ambient lighting". I tried all sort of variants but I cannot find a command.
I stand corrected! I did say “think” in the video 😜 You can ask it to turn it off or on though or even say the specific number of ambient light as shown on the screen which I just found out a minute ago 🙏 (on my car anyway)
Hi Nick, Thank you so much for theses great videos. Is it possible to show us videos with specific PHEV and electric voice assistant comands ? I have problems to look for point of charge for example. I know that in PHEV's is not possible to show rute with POC's then I have to stop and use mobile apps to find them. Thanks in advance
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! I would say try something like, Hey Mercedes, navigate to nearest charger or show me a list of charging station nearby and that should work. What model of Mercedes do you have out of curiosity?
Hey Nick, how do I get "M" to activate the front camera so I don't hit the parking bumper when pulling into a parking spot? I've tried several versions of a voice command but none work reliably.
Not sure that I’ve seen a command to turn the camera on but handily there is a button in the middle somewhere (P button with a camera) to toggle it on.
Thank you! That would be cool but Mercedes sadly don’t have any integrations for apps that allow smartphones to do that. And on top of that it physically doesn’t exist here in the UK. I’ve heard that remote start exists in some states in the USA though, not sure on what model though…
I heard rumours that you were able to link it to Amazon Alexa but not sure what countries if any still have it. It looked like it was discontinued last time I looked.
I always say please to my voice assistants, it just feels right. Perhaps it’s just Britishness. Also, when they take over the world, they might have respect for those with manners.
Yup! th-cam.com/video/SP-L7nSeTws/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tKxjOhxW_FgpwJ7R I ejected Lewis Hamilton once. My local dealer was like, are you sure you can do that? 😜
Looking forward to picking up my EQA250+ soon and trying out voice commands. In the meantime does anyone know if the Mercedes Me software syncs with your Alexia account and allows you to control any connected domestic devices?
Oooo nice! 👌🏼 No sadly it doesn’t link with other voice assistants. Just Phillips Hue. I believe it used to link to Alexa but not ever seen it in action and can’t see it listed anymore.
I’m stuck with the e450 coupe. The cle looks gorgeous from the exterior BUT i cannot approve of that c coupe interior. I also cannot approve of the b pillar. Not at these prices. Only thing im missing out on at this point is the massage seats. I’ll wait until Mercedes gets their head back on their shoulders and drop the b pillar, switch to e class interior, and v8 engine in their coupes again.
Oh the vertical screen on the middle? I guess it’s the look Mercedes are going for on the inside at the moment. If you’re not a fan, we’ll have to see what they bring out next over the coming years! 🤓
It depends on the multimedia system, sadly I have limited videos on cars prior to 2020 (I started my channel then) I’m pretty sure though that Mercedes introduced MBUX (the one with Hey Mercedes) on the E-Class in 2021. The previous one would have COMAND (if it was selected) so you’ll want this one: th-cam.com/video/H1anuwFfJSs/w-d-xo.html
No sadly not, also I’m not sure what cars it’s compatible with. I tried to go to CES in January at launch but had problems with my flight at the airport so wasn’t able to get there and check it out. Not even sure what countries it’s compatible with…I would assume everywhere and EV’s that have Burmester and most likely models with the vertical screen in the middle but other than that I don’t know on that one. Haven’t seen it heard anything about that :(
@@npoleary Thanks Nick, All I know currently is it will be compitable with MBUX Gen II and is expected to be released Mid 24. possibly the MBUX 2.5 update.
Bad points? Well there aren’t many, I’ve read a couple of comments about the rear camera popping out but I asked Mercedes this and it’s normal. It’s just the camera popping out to get the right exposure before showing the image. Things I would love to improve on my own car when compared to the competition, softer seats(they are comfy but others I’ve tested are softer), reduce the price (everything’s going up in cost) and it would be good to have a next track button and or the touchpad back in my car. I would like a faster car too but that’s on me for not buying a faster one 😂
Looking forward to AI being fully implemented, so that it will recognize other languages. I read and write English well enough, but it comes out of my mouth with a redicolous accent. It's also a bit embarrassing (or 'cringe' for you young people) to speak English to my car with other people in my car. So I hope it will soon be able to understand my language.
Hi Nick, just found you you tube channel, I know I haven’t listened to all of them, do you know if you can ‘lock’ the driving screen? My fingers constantly move and as a result change the way speed and rev counters show on the display. Can you help?
An awesome! No sadly not seen a way to lock it, it’s one of the reasons why when I review cars from various brands I make a point now these days of pointing it out as it can be easily changed if it’s a touch interface.

Hi Nick,
I find your videos very useful.
Haha yeah she does have some funny commands!
But message me if you have a questions and if I can help I’ll get back to you 🤓
With MBUX & CarPlay, they are completely separate systems so ideally you should try and stick to one or the other but…you can swap between them easily.
I’m always polite to computers. I want them to remembers that for when they take over…😁
Direct commands are especially useful if you are multilingual.
That’s cool! 😎
It doesn’t speak Geordie either
Why am I reading your comment in a Scottish accent 😂
No one else can understand your accent either. Why should your car be different? 🤣😳

Great information as always Nick and the Philips Hue tip, which I was not aware works in Ireland too. Every day is a school day. Cheers👍🏻
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🤓
When you are driving, you can also ask it to "turn on passenger seat heating" .. if you want a sweaty passanger ;)
Yup! 👍🏼
Love all your videos - really so much better than reading the manual :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! 🙏👍🏼🙏
Perfect. Thanks, Nick! 😃👍🏼 - I'm on my way to the car to have a little chat. 🙃
FYI if you have rear passenger window blinds you can open and close those too, either individually or all together inc the sun roof. Close all blinds.
That’s cool! Sadly no rear blinds in my A-Class 😅
Nick, thank you! Always love your videos. BTW, I say please and thank you to all my assistance devices. They really seem to appreciate it. 😉
Thank you! Means they listen to us if we say please 😜
Great video, thanks Nick. I am going to use the direct commands, coming up to park, and that is complicated where I live because I have to get very tight to a wall, I’ll “mute music” using the direct command. All the best.
Yes they are very useful for things like that! 🙏🤓
Thanks for all your Merc related videos Nick. They have been really helpful.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! 🙏🙏🙏
Hi nick, i finally got my new cla 180 premium as per your suggestion and i am loving it. Thank you so much.
oh awesome! That sounds cool! 😎
Got my EQA on Friday... Thanks as always Nick! Ben
Awesome! How are you finding it?
I got my EQB 300 last Wednesday so, I’ve been eating them up. For one, I was searching for where to pre condition my battery before driving and finally found it on this channel. I would have never guessed it was part of the cabin pre-temp.
i did mine yellow tonight ,it was look amazing
Haha 🤓
And yeah it was the GLB 🙏 very practical car!
lol I was the one who mentioned the cat sound, glad you used it in a video! lol
Yeah you were! I literally had no idea! 😜
Hi Nick, another great video. My favourite is "Hey Mercedes, start Dashcam recording". The menu icons to enable recording are quite small, so this saves time on vehicles with the the inbuilt camera.
Yup that’s a good one!
Start dashcam recording is a direct command by the way.
I hate that it's not automatic in the UK >_>
@JealY666 yeah I wish it was automatic too
I discovered that you can give the following instruction: "Navigate to X fastest route" and "Navigate to X direct route".
Thanks for the update on the commands! Cheers from Norway
No worries thank you for watching! 😎
@@npolearyquiz time😂 what is the capital of Norway?

I love my car ❤❤❤ Mercedez voice assistant is my friend😂😂
There are some nice replies if you compliment her!
Belgium here, I have my washing machine Bosh and it is actually linked.. so potentially I could turn it on while in my car. Cool!
Oh really? 😅
Wonder what you could do?
Start Spin cycle!
Hue integration works in Norway! Thank you for the tip!
No worries! 🤓
Haha very true! Yep you can do that too!
Hey Nick,
Another great video…many thanks.
Is there a way to lower the text message notification volume? It’s a bit loud in our MBUX.
Thank you! Not looked at that specially as I use CarPlay in my car but all audio controls are often in
HOME
SETTINGS
SYSTEM
AUDIO
And there’s loads of features in there to adjust.
Also look in
HOME
PHONE
SETTINGS icon
And in there too. You could also try adjusting the volume when you get that notification although I do appreciate it’ll probably be very quick!
Thanks Nick, going to try them next time!
Wait.. it is Friday yet? What is this Tuesday drop? I am all for it tho... 😃 One thing of note, in the phone portion, you had Iphone 1 and Iphone 2. You can actually have it display a name if you want to. It pulls it from your Iphone name itself. Settings > General > About > Name. Change the name of your phone and it will appear on the Mercedes screen. BTW, we upgraded from a 2022 C Class Cabriolet to a 2023 E450 Cabriolet so we are finally back to NTG 6.
Nope! Haha 😛
I’m trialing something for a short while
(Might be a couple of videos each week for a few weeks just to see how they perform)
It sure does, yes you can rename it although another thing to note 😜 you’ll have re-pair the device again if you’ve already paired it up with the old name.
Ooo nice!
Thanks, Nick. That's good to know. Thanks for the reply.😀
@waynejohn8 no worries!
BRILLIANT - well done !
Thank you! 🙏
Hi Nick. Thanks for another great video. Do you know if it's possible to see upcoming updates for MBUX? :)
Thank you! You can check in the app so if there’s a software update coming then you’ll see it listed in there.
Do the updates arrive directly to the car or via the Mercedes Me phone app, which you later sync with the car after downloaded to your mobile?
@@munkeypants1 directly to the car 👍
Yeah directly to the car but you can view them in the app 🤓
@@npoleary There was an article in the Daily Telegraph on 28th April which explicitly stated that all cars sold from 6 July must have this technology installed:
"From July 6, new vehicles sold in the European Union and Northern Ireland will be fitted with intelligent speed assistance (ISA) to prevent accidents.
Although the UK has opted out, meaning it will not be a requirement on British roads, the technology will still be installed in most cars, and drivers can choose to switch it off on a daily basis.
Steve Gooding, director of the RAC Foundation, an independent research organisation, told the Sunday Times: “I think many motorists will tire of switching off ISA and they will just learn to live with it.”
Mr Gooding said it would take autonomy away from drivers, with cars increasingly deciding what drivers can and can’t do, and said it was the beginning of the end of people choosing cars based on top speed.
ISA has a forward-facing camera that can recognise speed limit signs and is integrated with GPS mapping data so the car always knows what limit applies to its location."
No-one has contradicted this but with your Mercedes connection I assume you can easily check if this is correct.
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/04/28/cars-to-obey-speed-limits-automatically/
@npoleary Thanks Nick, look forward to it. But less of the "slightly older", I'm 75 and still teaching the 'kids' how to use real computers! 😂
Hey mercedes open driver window does work, well on my w206 it does. Shame the HUD is broken 😢
I haven’t tried the window on the latest models, I thought the only thing you could ask for “moving live objects” was the sunshade for the sunroof
Seldom use it but learnt something. Thanks a lot!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! 🙏🤓
Nick, Great video and thanks for the tips. I've just brought a GLE, and I'm useless with the tech. I've spotted your video was done at Baiter, and I am in Poole If you are free to help me set up my new car. That would be great. Thanks

Sadly one to ones aren’t something I offer currently. But I have plenty of videos on my channel for hours worth of stuff to watch! Plus if you do need extra help, the guys at the Mercedes dealer in Poole are great and very knowledgeable! That’s where I bought my car from 😎
Another great video Nick! 🇨🇦

In my C200 I can actually control the windows with voice commands. It may be that the GLB does not support it though.
Hey, Mercedes, don’t sell my personal info on my phone, that I have programmed into the car, to Mercedes.
Now you must do a video on what the linked smart accounts can be used for!!! Sitting in my car watching this video wasn't very clever as my car kept reacting to your Hey....😂
I have smartthings and I cannot get the voice command to do things, even though I know it is linked.
Haha sorry! Yeah I’ll check them out! 👀
Curious to see what the other things do
for navigation you can also say to save for example for parents.
Thank you! Have you left your windows or sunroof open at all?
@@npoleary No not at all and the windows always appear closed when I check. I think the windows adjust very slightly to prevent condensation when it detects rain…maybe? I have the A class saloon AMG
Try putting all the windows down and back up and see if it recalibrates.
No if it rains they may close but if they’re already closed it shouldn’t change.
If you have 2 phones? you can use also dual sim on 1 phone. Also E-sim.

@@npoleary Thank you Nick - appreciate your quick reply - Regards

Yep! That’s a good one! (If you have it though!)
If you change the language in system settings the MBUX voice assistant changes too!
Not sure about accents though, I’ve heard it learns you overtime 🤓
Sounds cool tech! I’m sure car manufacturers are working on something cool like this, we’ll have to wait and see what happens!
Hi Nick, just recently purchased a manual 2020 A200 AMG Line, and it gets delivered in a couple weeks, will it have ambient lighting, I’m not too bothered either way, just more intrigued, thanks again for the informative videos.
Ah very nice! 👌🏼
You’ll have to check the car, sadly I wouldn’t know what the specification was of the car when it was made. Depends if whoever bought it new chose it.

Thank you just getting new 2024 e class 300e premium plus. Should be great
Awesome! ☺️
Sounds very nice! 👌🏼
Basically to help now what year is your car? Is it a brand new one?
@@npoleary It’s a shame, in our previous A Class Apple Air Play & MBUX were completely separate. I will keep an eye out for the new video. The new car is a 24 plate CLA 200 Sport Executive Coupé (that the official model title) which we picked up on Tuesday this week. To be fair it is exactly the same as the A Class we had in terms of engine etc. It does have the benefit of the new Mild Hybrid technology, which is interesting.
Gracias por el video, Nick
I'll share just because you did. If Your wife or passenger annoys You, tell your MBUX the following line:"Hey Mercedes, eject passenger seat!" See what happens...😂

and some bad jokes are funny because they bad or not funny as it says.
am wondering. is the Voice command we can use it to check the car or diagnosis it!?
Haha yeah she does have a couple of extra responses to that too I’ve heard before.
You can ask it to check for a next service but I think that’s it, not sure on anything else. It’s connected to the Internet through Mercedes me so things could be added in the future!
off topic but is there today any solution to programmable charge scheduling for hybrid model? is it coming in future Mercedes Me updates? thanks
Yeah that would be cool! 👌🏼
You can use the voice assistant to open and close windows in the EQE350.
Ah cool that’s interesting, wonder if that works in the UK? Are you based in the UK?
@@npoleary Yes Nick, works on sun roof and sunroof blind as well.
@victorkasina4457 they must have changed that as you have never been able to do that before
I’ll have to check it out somewhen when I next visit a dealer!
Yes I’ve heard it does vary round the world. It always will sadly! Well if you don’t use the app that much then just cancel it and save some money. I don’t think I’ll renew mine at the end of my trial.
Nice one mate 👍
Thanks! ☺️
What about the weather radar? My old GLE 2017 used to have it. I don't see it in my newer 2022 EQS.
Oh really there was a weather radar? That sounds cool!
I’ve not seen that on any Mercedes since producing videos on them (roughly since 2020). Sadly I’ve got limited coverage on anything prior to that.
Wow this is a good reason to get a mercedes 😂😂
What car do you drive at the mo? What’s your daily? 😎
Keep.good work up nick
Thank you! Well I do cover other brands so if you are in the market to change your car next time, I might a video on a car that you’re after 😊
Currently have made videos on Mercedes, BMW, VW, Volvo (coming soon and Tesla) and maybe more!
@@npoleary thankyou I've placed order for my 2025 kia sportage gts hev, I'm told will be a my25 ,red black leather interior ,delivery june 2024.
It's got all tech bells whistles, sportage is huge seller ,kia expected ted sell 50000 in 23 ,they sold 70000 sportage
Nice! 👌🏼 just need to plan a road trip now 😜
I had a situation recently.
Ignition on (with all the lights)
Foot on brake
Move gearstick into Neutral
Manually take the parking brake off
To put the gearstick in Neutral, move the gearstick slightly (not all the way) or try holding slightly and it’ll go to neutral
WHOA, hold the phone. I do not believe you can change the ambient lighting brightness. Tell me how!
Better yet would be a way to change the head-up display position and brightness.
Oh, and I say "Open the sunshade". It works.
Pretty sure it’s something
Hey Mercedes change ambient light to 50% or something similar.
I did say “think” in the video 😜
You can ask it to turn it off or on though or even say the specific number of ambient light as shown on the screen which I just found out a minute ago 🙏 (on my car anyway)
Hi Nick,
Thank you so much for theses great videos.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will try tomorrow when use the car again.
I have a GLA 250e.
Any other suggestion will be accept.
You should ask Alexa to fart beatbox style 👍🤣
I did once…and never again…
Hey Nick, how do I get "M" to activate the front camera so I don't hit the parking bumper when pulling into a parking spot? I've tried several versions of a voice command but none work reliably.
Not sure that I’ve seen a command to turn the camera on but handily there is a button in the middle somewhere (P button with a camera) to toggle it on.
Is there a command to start the rear glass defrost?
I know there is a button for it but I keep forgetting where. :)
“Rear window demister” maybe? I think it might work you might have to try it!
Or “Heated Rear Window on”
Great info. New item will I be able to remote start my 2025 E450AT by using Siri on IPhone 15?
Thank you! That would be cool but Mercedes sadly don’t have any integrations for apps that allow smartphones to do that. And on top of that it physically doesn’t exist here in the UK. I’ve heard that remote start exists in some states in the USA though, not sure on what model though…
Nick have you heard anything in MB displays going dark for a period of time?
There’s a light mode and dark mode I’ve seen in settings, is that what you mean?
You can also ask her to close the actual sunroof - “Hey Mercedes, open/close the sunroof”.
Can you discuss about Voice assistant on linked home smart devices
I heard rumours that you were able to link it to Amazon Alexa but not sure what countries if any still have it. It looked like it was discontinued last time I looked.
I always say please to my voice assistants, it just feels right. Perhaps it’s just Britishness. Also, when they take over the world, they might have respect for those with manners.
Haha maybe! I often say please to mine!
Have you tried “Hey Mercedes, activate ejector seat”?
Yup!
th-cam.com/video/SP-L7nSeTws/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tKxjOhxW_FgpwJ7R
I ejected Lewis Hamilton once. My local dealer was like, are you sure you can do that? 😜
Looking forward to picking up my EQA250+ soon and trying out voice commands.
In the meantime does anyone know if the Mercedes Me software syncs with your Alexia account and allows you to control any connected domestic devices?
Oooo nice! 👌🏼
No sadly it doesn’t link with other voice assistants.
@@npoleary Yeah that screen with no physical buttons like in my e450.
Hi, I've got 2018 mercedes benz e class 220d 4matic. Does all the facilities available in my car and how to operate them please.
It depends on the multimedia system, sadly I have limited videos on cars prior to 2020 (I started my channel then)
I’m pretty sure though that Mercedes introduced MBUX (the one with Hey Mercedes) on the E-Class in 2021.
The previous one would have COMAND (if it was selected) so you’ll want this one: th-cam.com/video/H1anuwFfJSs/w-d-xo.html
Hey Nick, any news of when mbux sound drive is expected to be rolled out?
Cool! That sounds good! 👍🏼
Nick do a video on the bad points rear camera noise
Ok thanks Nick, I will still be eagerly waiting for next instalment.
