- I made this video after finding a second hand copy of HeroQuest at Cancon 2020 which I think is the best board game ever made. Hero quest is just so great and I wanted to share my journey as I unboxed, painted and then played this boardgame from my childhood. I hope you all enjoy the video.
I bought two box sets back in the day because my friends would fight over who got which spells, so I got two boxes so everyone could get the spells they wanted. Still have both boxes in my man cave.
oh man some of the spells are super strong! The wizard player just nuked the Gargoyle dead from halfway across the board with Genie!
@@DoomDarkness My personal favorite was to move, cast wind walk to double the move of your next move and next turn cast walk through stone and walk around the board to scout out rooms, you just had to be careful and play it safe or else you would die if you stopped in space that didnt exist on the map as an open space.

Can’t forget the commercials! Smartest things GW did getting an entire generation hooked. I can imagine playing this on Halloween 🎃 with all the theatrics. Sweet work with the painting too. I know we did not think of it has kids... and then there was 4th edition! Cheers and thank you!

In 1989 we had HeroQuest on our kitchens tables and Knightmare on our TV. Amazing times!
I remember nightmare now 😂 the first time that guy kept telling me to come closer to the TV screen scared the hell out of me 😃
My complete set is just feet away from me.. parents bought it for me when I was 8...I fucking cherish this game
The four heroes should be immortalised as golden statues outside of Games Workshop HQ imo
I'm really looking forward to when my kids are old enough to play my copy with them.

Wonderful video! - I started with Heroquest as well (I think everyone our age did) and I was lucky to pick up a mint copy about 5 years ago. I can‘t wait until my son is old enough to play it with me! 😀

This was my first game I played and then I also played another game I think was called Space Crusade?
Space crusade was amazing! It’s basically the 40k version of this!

Oh this brings back memories! I played it as a kid in the early 90s. Seeing your son so excited made me really happy, that's how it must have been for us too. I still have my copy. Gotta bring it out again, I think. By the way, did you notice that the Gargoyle is actually an early version of the Bloodthirster? So funny.
I highly recommend you get it out the closet and unbox for a game! It was a lot of fun even for the older guys
Hero quest was the game my dad showed me getting into dungeons and dragons when I was a kid. Really amazing game! Reccomend it to anyone who can get their hands on one. A bit pricey nowadays
Adam Wallis it sure is! I purchased it for $130 the next cheapest on eBay was about $250 when I last looked!
So many great memories with this board game. I have two sets of the European/Australian version and one American version plus Kellars Keep, The Return of the Witch Lord and Ogre Horde. I was trying to source the Barbarian expansion pack but it's very hard to come by and people who do have it want an absolute fortune. To this day I find this the quintessential adventure board game which is why I have 3. Two for playing and one is a collector set. I never did get around to painting all the minis.
Oh I forgot about the Ogor horde. I need to find this
@@DoomDarkness Forgot to mention that when I was a kid my friends father was garbage man and he knew I had a copy of HeroQuest. One day he found a whole box of minis, dice and some playing cards someone had thrown away at the tip. I got the lot. So now I don't only have 3 copies of HeroQuest but also have an extra 4 hero's, orcs, goblins, fimirs, mummies, skeletons and 3 extra equipment cards and one special treasure card. I just wish he had found an entire HeroQuest play set. Even at the time I wondered why anyone would throw away a copy of this game into the garbage.
Love this so much! But dayyum it makes me want to go buy one. For nerds our age, this game was our moon landing.

I really do love this game. So many memories. I've played most of it. (Minus Wizards of Morcar and Against the Ogre Horde)
But the one thing I never did like was messing up the board. I intend to make a wooden board with inset spaces so I can keep it clean.

This game was a myth for us growing up in argentina. Someone's cousin has it laying around unplayed cause it was in english... I'm 37, never played it. Can't buy it here. Someday I'll find a copy.

hell yeah, greatest game ever! I have my copy still although its no longer complete. I actually metal case one of the chaos warriors. The dice are a major problem. Its so hard to find them with the sides still printed in tact.
it never even occurred to me as a kid that the models were supposed to be painted. They were already color coordinated.

I played the Save Ser What's his name adventure #1 last week and it was great and I've played Dungeon Saga / Descent 2 etc etc
playing this game has re-kindled my interest in playing more board games of this nature to be honest
@@DoomDarkness It's an excellent game, in adventure #1 by sheer pot luck I found a secret door to rescue the knight and when i did the entire dungeon appeared and descended onto my position with a weakened knight guarded at the rear of the party fighting the hordes. It needs a reprint and I am embarassed with what happened here in Spain with the Heroquest Kickstarter 25th where they have the game in a warehouse ready to ship but cannot because they didn't get all of the rights to the game and the kickstarter guy just ran away with all the money.

Yep still got my copy full and all the extras.Nothing every comes close to it. Lots try but just end up being to complex! My gate way to the hobby and then u found space hulk!
after this I really want to find a copy of space crusade! that was also an amazing game!
@@DoomDarkness oh man I had that too but ended up selling as it ended up taking up room with I hadn't, but Heroquest holds a special place and man cheers for this in finally going to get around to painting mine now!

I know right I mean I’ve been calling it heroes quest since I was a kid.....
The HQ Barbarian can't be THE Sigmar, I'm told, as the empire already exists. Magnus is the emperor. The folks at Ye Olde Inn are still debating whether or not the HQ barbarian is a Norscan or from the Border Princes, rather northerly. *shrug*
ETA: And, I wanted to watch you paint, actually, and I've gone back to watch you do it a second time now. I'm legally blind-I can't see even the low details of these old "inferior" plastic casts of otherwise pewter minis. On a well-painted mini, I can, but on the unpainted ones, no way. And then I watched you paint a mummy in 30 seconds and … yeah, that'd be good enough for the table. Could _I_ do it with my vision? A blindfolded two year old could do it! 🤣 And it'd be good enough. The little touches you went back for would require a little care, but I could learn to do that going slowly.
It looked like you spent a LITTLE (🤣 again) more time than that with most of them, but it seemed like you usually had something light, then shaded it (which makes those details pop), then went back to add some color to them. I'm sitting here saying to myself that yeah, I could do that. So far, I mean to paint some terrain just because you can't really mess it up.
