The countdown site has a company logo for "Avalon Hill", I looked them up and they seem to specialize in strategic boardgames, so this might ACTUALLY be a good old tabletop game

Whenever i have a rainy day, i watch a couple of videos from the Bard. I've had a lot problems with mental health for a number of years, and these videos genuinely help me smile. This might sound like a bit much and sappy for some, but i promise you that every word i speak is the truth!
What's this, a modern Heroquest? My aged and cynical mind tells me all will be folly and failure. But, my heart hopes for greatness restored, reborn and reimagined. Ohh, what terrible, sweet torment!
After a long nightmare devoid of new Bardic Broadcasts content, I awoke this morning to the miracle of a new Bard video. And all was right with the world again.
This is true, I have a set already I managed to snap up second hand. It was missing the dwarf which for years I had replaced with a lego man, but thanks to 3D Printing the Dwarf is back better than before. Saying that. I will still snap up a brand spanking new version of the board, with the expansion if I could do so easily.
@@Big_Mike001 Pretty sure HeroQuest was simple enough it would never be considered unplayable; you could even play the game at a party, given it took seconds to set up the board and the rules were easy to understand.

Now that the things up 1. The "main" elf is female, but still a sword + magic character. Also, all the characters have opposite gender figures 2. Right on the money. Art style is at about the halfway point between HeroQuest Classic and Diablo 2b. The cover art is a homage to the original art 3. There are 2 dwarves 4. ???. Games not out. The art style definitely feels more High Fantasy 4b. Dread Warriors and Abominations replace Chaos Warriors and Fimirs. 5. The preview cards didn't have names, but who knows about the rulebook. The only named character was named in OG heroquest, Sir Ragnar.
I found the new art style to be a significant departure from the classic. Its much more like Warcraft. The dwarf for instance is nothing like the classic. In regards to 'homages', I think its just a carbon copy in a new style. Sadly I don't think its as good.
Must play female elf & buy her the crossbow so she can be an archer to make Bardic happy. Now that the peasentry is out of the way, real masters of the game who want something new to play will choose the female dwarf. The female elf was technically available in the US back in the day with the elf quest pack & isn't really that new to the game. Although it was planned, they never got around to releasing a dwarf quest pack & thus we never had an official female dwarf before this edition. Playing the new female dwarf means having "more dwarfs" available & that is what would truly make Bardic happy. XD
You know dude, some of the points you make here are very interesting. The argument of cartoony vs realism is such a big thing for me, especially as a painter. I personally like drawing in a comicbook style but there is definitely a line between realism and fantasy and a balance that is needed.
Now that the HASLAB HeroQuest backing has begun, I hope you make a follow up video. Because of your HeroQuest videos, I backed this at the Mythic tier. This looks like a great update to the classic game, nice art, great minis, and HeroQuest furniture!!! You can really keep those pesky Mormons out now!

I really want them to print classic Hero Quest for the same reasons I enjoy them reprinting copy's of other games (like Monopoly, Super Mario, ECT.) There's now whole generations who haven't experienced the quest to save Sir. Ragner or fight Ulag simply because they no longer reproduce the game. If they don't reprint it, I still plan to help my nephew's & niece enjoy classic Hero Quest with my personal board (I'll likely be playing the evil wizard Morcer/Zorgon) but I'd rather it not have to remain a dated experience only brought to new generation by the few of us older people that still have the classic game. This game needs better preservation & I'm hoping whatever we get now will be a key stepping stone to making that happen.
@@yodaflyz There are so many games that should never have gone out of print. Heroquest and AHQ, Space Hulk/Space Crusade, Necromunda and Mordheim are the ones I miss the most.
@Texas Dice that's not bad. I've seen copies selling for 1000. Sucks because during the lockdown I was bored and thought it would be fun to play with the misses. Didn't realise how hard it is to get hold of a box in good condition :(

SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!!! Although a Cracking Unboxing would be great, all the news on this re-release says they've kept it close to the original. Since most of the changes they've announced involve flash (figure quality and orientation) and a few steps toward IP security, I wouldn't see a NEED to change the basic game mechanics. I feel like it would be more of a Cracking Un-Re-Unboxing. But no one has the chops to do a comparison between the original and this corp-crowd-funded version than The Bard, and OH LOOK! There's a male AND female Dwarf available - there may be hope for your dream yet! Maybe if you pulled out some of that vintage HQ furniture... set up the privacy - I mean "Information" screen... give them a little time and, I don't know, maybe a lava lamp... I still consider the use of longbow quite the stupid idea in a dungeon. It makes more sense to use a crossbow (and one more reason to employ a dwarf)! :D

If you liked the original, this one is based on the USA version, and both expansions that came out (return of the Witch Lord, and Kellar's Keep).

Although a Cracking Unboxing would be great, all the news on this re-release says they've kept it close to the original. Since most of the changes they've announced involve flash (figure quality and orientation) and a few steps toward IP security, I wouldn't see a NEED to change the basic game mechanics. I feel like it would be more of a Cracking Un-Re-Unboxing. But no one has the chops to do a comparison between the original and this corp-crowd-funded version than The Bard, and OH LOOK! There's a male AND female Dwarf available - there may be hope for your dream yet! Maybe if you pulled out some of that vintage HQ furniture... set up the privacy - I mean "Information" screen... give them a little time and, I don't know, maybe a lava lamp...

I still consider the use of longbow quite the stupid idea in a dungeon. It makes more sense to use a crossbow (and one more reason to employ a dwarf)! :D

Theres already something like that called dark quest. It's pretty much a total rip off of hero quest but also quite fun.

Okay. This brought back memories! Stumbled upon your channel tonight via “Bardic” as a search, and I’m delighted to find this. Not just the nostalgia for Hero Quest, a game I haven’t thought about in quite some time, and indeed haven’t played in much longer, but the picture from the 6th edition Dwarf codex, and indeed, Warhammer Fantasy! All in all, thank you! I salute you, in the most Bardic of ways. Let me just get my mandolin and break into song =)
