      I saw this beautiful bike siting on top of the Systeme U teamcars on August 15, 1988 when the tour of Holland ( Ronde van Nederland) departed in my home town Groningen, Netherlands. I also talked to Laurent Fignon on that occasion. This two time Tour de France winner had a lot of charisma. He's always been my favourite rider together with Bernard Hinault. The following year he would lose the Tour to Greg Lemond with an 8 second gap.

    Beautiful recreation. Incredible that the Time Pedals and cleats are so hard to find in Europe. I learned not long ago that after the founder of Time Le defi died, Time was purchased by an Italian company. I still ride my 35 year old Time Pedals and shoes, they were and still are the answer for my cycling knee problems.

    Very very nice.My first bike was a gold RAZESA also with Reynolds 753 back in 1990.It was from ZOR cycling team and the owner was Jose Luis Lopez Cerrón ex-pro and now the President of the Spanish Cycling Federation.

      @BikeItUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow....I don’t suppose you still have the bike sounds amazing. Love hearing viewers personal stories amazing 😉 thanks for watching and the support all the best Andy

    • @tisucasas
      @tisucasas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Razesa was a very common brand here in Spain in the early nineties but I think it closed its doors shortly after.I had also a Timetrial Razesa (I don't know how you call this kind of timetrial-frame bikes in Spain we call them "Cabra" which means "Goat" in English) from the Seguros Amaya 1993 Pro Cycling Team with Reynolds 653.The thing is that the last coach of the Spanish National Team (Javier Minguez) had a bike shop (Ciclo Samy) here in Valladolid and at the end of every season he used to sell some of them.Sorry from my English and Greetings from Spain.

    • @tisucasas
      @tisucasas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      By the the way I don't have any of them.I sold them long ago (by 1998) to buy some Campagnolo parts.I am no longer a rider but I do love cycling and these videos of the 90's remind me of good times.I still have some fotos of the Razesa's but I think TH-cam don't allow pics in the comments (I am not sure).Only a few people know that the first Tour de France that Miguel Indurain won used a TVT carbon but also used a Razesa.

    I built racing frames in the 1980's mainly Columbus SL and Reynolds 531 and 653, I knew a few licensed 753 builders, takes a lot of skill to braze that tubing.

    • @BikeItUK
      @BikeItUK  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello yes its probably why Raleigh moved away from Reynolds and used their own tubing, thanks for sharing and tuning in. All the best Andy

    • @BIGDO13

      is it because you have to be extra good at brazing with silver? (They used silver right?)

    What a bike! It is easy to forget how close some of those machines came to being a toss-up between technology and art. They exemplified the last stage of lightweight lugged steel absolute race machines before al and cf took control. Interesting to note the use of clinchers.

    Really enjoy your videos especially highlighting the vintage Raleigh lightweights. I just purchased a near mint 84 Raleigh Road Ace with all the og parts (you could use it but I live in France). Would be nice to see an 84 Raleigh Competition and a Dawes Imperial. Also the Holdsworths of that era would be nice too. Keep up the excellent work.

    Andy :)loved this short on Raleigh's history, am pretty sure this is the first time i heard of this model,beautiful indeed and loaded with campy and goodies. i like the new location but needs a sound check, sometimes was too low, mostly while you did the narrative and were not in the picture, perhaps echo cause its such a large locale and pretty mt but looks great, thank you for sharing . OMG !!
    Amazing !!
    I love it !
    Gerald O'Donavon was head of Carlton Cycles at first, I think, but then when bought by Raleigh he did the high-end Raleigh frames. I think it's a shame the Carlton name was dropped.
    Anyway, I'm a massive fan of Raleigh, especially the '80s Reynolds frame bikes. Only a 753 Panasonic would better this, IMO.

      @BikeItUK  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent. Thank you !
      753 was THE tubing to have back then (yes, I know there was some Italian tubing available also).
      I had a look on Raleigh's website today. Not sure what's happened to their high-end carbon range of bikes. They had a number of cycles ranging up to £6000 or so. Now the most expensive is 'only' £1500.

    Yes if you could find a 1973 Raliegh RRA , only 500 were built , Reynolds double butted frame , stays & forks Stronglite cranks, simplex SLR mechs Wienmman 500 brake set Brooks Pro and a white frame and forks with 5 yellow bands hand pin striped in black on the seat tube with the head tube in yellow. Oh' tubular AVR rims . The frame is actually a Carlton TT Flyer and including mine I have found only 26 others. I would love to see your synapses of one. Thanks

    Next month im possibly buying a vintage Peugeot that looks similar to the one you restored. Hope i dont have to restore much, by the looks of it only the saddle needs changing, and a new chain as it is rusted. Other wise it looks great, maybe a touch up on the paint as it is chipping, but no rust on the frame so far.

    Dear Andy, the narration lacks fluency. It doesn't matter when you're on screen, but once we just have the bike and your voice, a fluent narration will provide a bit more polish to an otherwise well produced video.
    Thanks for making videos, Andy. I especially like the content about the manufacturer's history.

      Bonjour Jean, j'espère que tu vas bien?
      Je suis très content que tu aies vu le vélo.
      Je suis Paul et c'est moi qui ai restauré ce vélo. Il a été acheté comme un cadre nu qui a ensuite reçu une restauration complète.
      Ce serait fantastique de recevoir le bon maillot, pensez-vous que vous pourriez aussi le signer, alors je peux l'afficher avec le vélo?
      Mon adresse est:
      34 Duncroft, Windsor, Berkshire. SL4 4HH, Angleterre.
      Puis-je également demander si vous connaissez quelqu'un qui a des mitaines de castorama originales?
      Tout le meilleur Paul

    Can you find any tt funny bikes? A guy at my high school in 1986 who was a tri athlete had a funny bike with a 24" front wheel 700c rear sloping top tube bull horn handlebar Shimano 600 groupset steel bike. We all though it was out of this world

      Thanks Andy. They were very rare here in Australia before cycling became popular. I have an old Columbus slx Viner super record from those days that cost me $1500 in those days 32 years ago. It has the very first campagnolo clipless pedals. I still ride it occasionally

    Love all the vids you do but please pronounce the brand names properly for example
    Campagnolo is pronounced as it's written, not campagnolia as you say ...
    Small gripe really just feel it takes away from the quality of your content.

    • @BikeItUK
      @BikeItUK  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, OK I will take that as being constructive its a hard thing to do when you have said it that way for over 30 years, their are different pronunciations across Europe and after watching a couple videos I see their is a difference between the UK and the US the way they are pronounced in English.

    • @darrenjames8155
      @darrenjames8155 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BikeIt UK I'm English I don't think it's a us/uk difference. Maybe I'm being picky about this but the way it's written is the way it's said. I don't mean to offend you. This is a critique not a criticism, your content is excellent and you have thought me many interesting facts about older bikes and teams. I just feel to add more quality and kick on to the next level the correct pronunciation of all brands featured is important .

    • @darrenjames8155
      @darrenjames8155 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JAMES6Y I know I'm being a pedant but the vids are always interesting and informative. I feel this tiny mispronunciation takes away from the overall quality.
